As someone who has watched you build this from the beginning, “That means if I can do it, any one of you can do it.” shows what a humble guy you are. I am an extremely quick learner, but your skills are insane. Looking forward to seeing videos of you putting this thing to use.
I agree, which is why I like this channel so much - he's humble! He doesn't constantly film himself, show off his money/house/girlfriend first - then head into some car stuff (as many others do)... His skills are amazing, but still believes he's an amateur and admits when he doesn't know and is learning...
This video should really prove to everyone that's been complaining about lack of packed content in episodes that it's the filming that really takes up the most of your time. Sure, you can absolutely knock out a ton of things in a short amount of time like you did here, but then we lose all of the in depth explanations and design processes we know and love. Really makes the episodes go from "here's what I did and how you can do it too" to "here's what I've achieved". I've said it before but I've always been massively appreciative of you taking the time to make episodes the way you do and nurturing the car community as a whole by doing so. I know it's a lot of extra work but being such a strong advocate for people to get into fab work really is worth it's weight in gold. Really wish I could see this thing at SEMA this year but I'm tied up with a work trip that week. Definitely looking forward to all of the post-SEMA content where you fix everything you've learned that needs adjusted!
The amount of hours behind the twenty minute summary doesn't go unnoticed. Your capacity for storytelling an absolute BOATLOAD of work with such incredible, thoughtful production quality is second to none Mike.
I love this build. Those headlight mounts are genius. They symbolize your design philosophy: unconventional, overengineered and way more interesting solutions. Great job!
I never get tired of these videos. One of the few channels where I can click on a video and watch 20 minutes without feeling bored or skipping parts of the video.
Have "2" hoods. 1 painted. 1 cleared. Swap, them when you feel like. Every time I feel like making my project simple, you inspire me to keep trying to be exceptional.
If the wing is carbon fiber and the hood is carbon fiber, they tie in together and create a nice contrast to whatever color you paint it. I say leave the hood “exposed”. I couldn’t paint it as it’s already a work of art. The headlights are dead on with the look and the mounts turned out slick. Spot on with the a-arm colors. Going to be a sweet ride.
I think i've said this before, and will say it again. Everything is beautifull, the b roll, voice over, your craft, the guy that made the carbon hood.. wow!
Idea for the hood: When the paint on F40's is put under just the right light, you can just barely make out the carbon kevlar underneath that makes a really cool texture. Could be a cool homage. Car is looking awesome btw.
I'll bet you that's better work than anything on an F40. If it's as flawless as it looks then I think it would be a huge shame to paint it. And I'm someone who's truly sick of seeing carbon everywhere. it's just a material, but what we're talking about here is workmanship, and that is worth showing.
The texture in the carbon is typically shrinkage in the resin from the part not being post cured before being subjected to heat. So while it looks cool, it’s technically not good 😮
It is SO hard to believe you're this close after watching it come together for so long. Congratulations, man. This is the most frustrating but still the most fun part of a build, so remember to keep that stoke. All of us weirdos are SO pumped to see you charging toward that finish line! Also, I cannot freaking wait to hear what that thing sounds like under load. My god.
Pegasus the winged horse - Honda wings on a Ferrari prancing horse. Love the amazing work you have poured in to this amazing car. When I was younger I had a paint scheme in my head and then I had a part that totally messed up my idea of ascetic. My Dad suggested I run with a different Idea and I found something that was way more beautiful and unique than what I originally thought. Perhaps you too can use the carbon hood to be an inspiration. What ever you do it is amazing!
This is an absolute epic build. Discussing with some friends whom are purists, I simply explain that its great someone is breating new life into this iconic classic that was plagued with a troublesome engine. The car will not only be more reliable which gives more wheel time vs time up in the air for repairs/maintenance on the original engine. Kudos to you and this build! Wish I could see this at SEMA.
Man the quality of everything is perfect, it’s probably the coolest car build on TH-cam to date. I get so excited when the new episode comes out! Well done you’ve made the right decisions throughout the build and it really shows
TH-cam needs a "double like" feature. I had already liked the video after the interior carpet, then you revealed that sick hood and there is no way to like again.
That’s so awesome that you’re taking this to SEMA, it’s some good motivation to just say screw it and work with what you’ve already put together. Obviously there will be many changes afterwards, but this is exactly the jumpstart I’m sure you’ve wanted. I can’t wait to see this thing in its first iteration! Wish I could come and see it. Between this car and Rob Dahm’s RX-7 I’m regretting working on the opposite side of the world right now… thanks for the content, take care!
SEMA is the best thing to happen to car build TH-camrs. They all are finishing their huge projects in a short amount of time, lol. This is one of my favorite cars on TH-cam and I am so happy to see it come together.
I've torn down, redesigned and rebuilt motorcycles, a couple old cars and my old truck over the years, but never to this level. Amazing job with taking us along for the project and, of course amazing work! I honestly hope that you are very satisfied with your end result!
Tantalising close now! The paint and powder coating has really transformed things! Looking really good. The front hood is looking amazing and I can’t wait to see it on the car. I will say, that while the resin infusion is cool to watch, it’s the mould that takes the time. Lots of sanding and buffing and release coatings before getting anywhere near to layup!! Keep at it Mike!
Man your craftsmanship is amazing. The fact that you’re able to explain things and still keep the video very interesting is baffling. I appreciate all the tips and ideas, currently back on my Spitfire engine swap project and your videos give me tons of inspiration! Keep it up
Huge progress - great work. The interior looks great, and your color choice for the suspension components is very cool. Distinctive without looking garish or wacky. Have a good time at SEMA - then the real work on this monster begins.
The car is looking incredible! It’s unreal how great the engine bay looks finished. I love the small choices you make to have certain parts or areas stand out, as far as finishes and colors - really goes to show how ‘small’ choices can make a huge difference.
Last year I did a 24 hour trip to Vegas to attend the SEMA Friday experience and see Tavarish's McLaren. This year I am doing the same trip, leave Chicago at 9:50pm Thursday and return at 5am Saturday in part so that I can see this car. I can't wait to see the video of it actually moving.
As always, great work. Nice progress on the car, and I hope she'll be under her own power entering the booth. I really like seeing the progress as you've worked at TIG. There are some definite first attempt shots here, as well as how far you've come in that area. I a]laud you for just diving in to that aspect. Thanks for the update, and I absolutely 💙 this build!
Re: Those thin parts you're tigging.... much less stick out, less heat, and if you go like two steps forward/one step back you will get the "stacking" appearance you're looking for. I also believe the welder you're using has a pulser... consider testing that out in the future. Enjoying the series.
Good luck Mike, I'm back in love with this after feeling it was going off on too many tangents but mostly try and enjoy yourself, you clearly put yourself under a lot of pressure as a lot of guys do with their projects, don't let it grind you down, more power to you
when you do the final nut/bolt check, you should use the bmw method. they use one of the 3 bmw m stripe colors to mark/dot every bolt/nut in the suspension so they know they they torqued everything. my late e70 x5m had every single nut/bolt marked it was crazy lol.
Very Exciting to see the car nearing completion. It is amazing the impact a coat of satin black paint on the rear chassis structure. Your commentary regarding the quality of Ferrari's chassis work is and was well deserved. Maybe they put the "new hires" welding the frame components in their construction jig ?
Outstanding progress and some really cool additions to the project. I'm particularly impressed with the rear bulkhead which is a super elegant way to cleanly hide the electronics. Keep pushing and I look forward to the pushing turn to driving at SEMA!
Huge balls cutting the quarters! Good luck with the deadline, I would love to see it in person but it’s several thousand miles and I am doing 6 mph on my narrowboat whilst SEMA is on.
Mike, if you have to paint the cf hood vent, why not do a really thin paint or semi transparent coat? Like an homage to the F40 so you can see the weave upon closer inspection.
Man I've been following you since Rusty was on Borbets on mye28 forms and all the old folks were giving you such a hard time about your car way back in 07. You've always done great work like this. Keep it up!
Look up yellow ferrari with lexus engine- a guy in San Bernardino built one by himself in a few weeks and drove it daily.. he was all over the place drove it over 100 miles a day for years.. even road and track wrote a article.. amazing thing is everything worked AC to speedometer and all gauges.. now that guy is a Genius.. in one month.. and drove it everywhere..
I think I’d be tempted to paint the hood but following the F40 esque interior trimming, keep the paint thin to allow the weave to show through like the body on the F40 👌👌
Went to a pre-F1 race party at the Ferrari of Austin dealership. They had a 250 GTO in the service department, which looked awesome. Got to talking with a service manager, told him about your build, with a Honda engine. He was not excited.
I know what it like trying to get things done and trying to film it, so no stress there! It is all really starting to come together, looking forward to seeing this thing run and drive

I thought the same thing 😅
So true 😂
Definitely!

yeah, filmmaking really adds to the workload of a fully built race car
Im looking forward to the Post Sema refresh when you figure out what does and doesnt work. Great job Mike.
Seen it at Sema This Thing Is Sick although I wished he would’ve left it Yellow

all of your content feels like a crime watching it for free
The champagne/gold colour is perfect, it’s got a proper motorsport look about it. Great choice.
This was an absolute unit of an episode, stoked for next week's episode 💯💥
Just saw Speedhunters post and I’m gobsmacked how truly AWESOME this turned out, Mike.
Glad to be here for the whole journey. Enjoy SEMA, Big Man!

That hood is freaking gorgeous
The champagne finish... speechless. Great choice!
Without a DOUBT…MY FAVORITE KSWAP ON THE INTERNET!!!😱🤘😎🤙
That carbon work is amazing! So many people claim to be good with composites, you see their work and it looks OK, but Son of Cobra is legit!

By far and away my favourite youtube build , you done good Mike and deserve all the admiration you're sure to get at sema.
"If I can do this, you can too..........." No! That is why I watch you do all this amazing bespoked hand crafted fabrication!
Man the quality of everything is perfect, it’s probably the coolest car build on TH-cam to date. I get so excited when the new episode comes out! Well done you’ve made the right decisions throughout the build and it really shows
That engine bay looks SO GOOD
those bulkhead covers look soooooo goooood!!!
Holy crap that engine compartment looks spectacular!
That hood looks fantastic! I vote for leaving it unpainted.
Best build on youtube by far

Can't wait to see the Ferrari at SEMA! Been following this build for a year now.
The smile on your face says it all. The car is sick.
Absolutly amazing. Best build on TH-cam !
Please don't forget to take Glovehand to SEMA with the car!!! He deserves it. Congratulations Mike I wish I could go too.
Amazing work as always Mike! Getting excited to see the finished product. The hood looks incredible.
That was an INCREDIBLE impregnation inside that vacuum mold! 👏
I’m so very excited to see this at SEMA!
Looking forward to seeing you and the car at the CSF booth
Are you a professional narrator? Your narration of your videos is so scholarly that it is as good as national geographic!
The tooling for that hood is GORGEOUS. However I don't envy the task of laying or demolding it. Wow.

Everything's coming together beautifully and I'm loving your design and engineering choices.
Great update, thanks for sharing while you're rushing! Keep pushing, 10 days isn't much time given all the work and sorting that needs to take place!

I like how you sent the hood to another craftsman. Important to know when someone else can do something perfectly.

Instead of painting you can wrap the hood so that you can freely switch between carbon fibre or coloured hood
I don’t know if I’ve seen your videos in a while. This is the first notification in weeks. Excited at the progress.
My favourite episode so far, thank you for taking time to give us an update! Good luck 💪
