    For years now, when attempting to fall asleep, I’ve pictured some kind of visual story in my head. I’ve imagined ones with really complex and convoluted lore, but I’ve never attempted to write any of it down, and haven’t ever finished one of these stories; I just stop imagining anything else when I get bored of it and conjure up a different scenario. It’s helped me stop worrying about getting to sleep, and takes me out of the present.

      That's pretty convenient, I do it too and I know a lot of people do it as well but I also thought that the majority doesn't do it because when I give sleeping advice to my friends they turn down this offer and laugh saying it's ridiculous (in a teasing-joking matter of course, they mean no harm) I didn't expect that one would comment on this advice yk

    Never force yourself to sleep, or "try" to sleep, if you want to sleep you should relax and not force or try anything at all, and its true that sometimes the translation to your dreams seems very unusual before sleeping, but remember that sleeping doesn't mean going to a different world, its just your mind is taking a rest, and you experiencing your thoughts and feelings in a real picture, which sometimes you don't even remember your dreams, and sometimes you might not even know you have slept this long, but most importantly do not plan for your dreams or for waking up

    I've actually trained my body to fall asleep while watching TH-cam
    From my experience, it seems to work due to my mind having something to focus on, without needing so much energy that it keeps me awake
    Whenever I *don't* have a vid or anything playing, I'd find myself constantly looking around the room, scratching random itches, & just generally taking longer to sleep

      This is why I wear earphones. Well you can just play the sounds on your pc or your cell but if you need to then use headphone sor earphones. Choose a pair that won't bother you at night. Then choose ambient sounds, or maybe people telling stories. Some people fall asleep listening to videos of other kinds. You don't need to see it just hear it. It'll block out the other sounds.

    • @atomic...
      @atomic... 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd just use that as an excuse to listen to music and not sleep, I sleep on my side so I'd probably smash up a pair of headphones too, and earphones are a no go as I can't stand them and are rather uncomfortable to wear for me.

    It doesn't usually take me long to fall asleep but if I have coffee past noon, even decaf, I will struggle to fall asleep.
    What I find helps me fall asleep is doing my own little RP in my mind, usually following the story of one of my characters (or myself) entering another world, usually from a game, and go through the main storyline. This does include battles, sad scenes, happy relaxing moments, and moments shared with inhabitance of the other world. I've been doing it for years and it's helped me sleep even when I simply just can't sleep for one reason or another.

    I have two ways that help me sleep. The same bedtime on weekdays, and I like to listen to something familiar, either audiobook or some relaxing music. The other way is to overload my brain and getting too tired to actually fall asleep. I can do it by learning foreign language or something similarly difficult.
    On the other hand, if I do not fall asleep at my usual time, I get into troubles getting asleep quickly, it usually takes me much longer.

    Love the last method.
    Over the years I’ve been to and created a lot of different environments, the current one I like to think about is;
    it’s a hamic, that hangs over a calm ocean tied between two trees that stick out of the water, branching off in different directions. A calm breeze as well as the smell of a far of storm accompanies me. In the distance I can make out telephone poles with the wire connecting them to one another, some birds sit on the wires but there to far away to tell what they are. I lay there letting the breeze rock me and enjoy the smell of rain, I do not fear the trees sinking, as I know I am save in this place. The smell of rain, the calm ocean noises, the slight breeze rocking me, being able to look up at moon and stars above, out into the night sky. At least that my coronet place.
    What’s yours?

    1: The breathing technique always makes me light headed.
    2: Literally every time I meditate and only focus on what's happening at that very moment is when my nerves and anxiety and stress shoots up the most because I'm fully thinking about what's happening at that very moment. If you haven't figured it out yet; I'm talking about "across the globe" very moment, and it never helps; even when I try to focus on what I'm doing, it doesn't work no matter how hard I try.
    3: That muscles relaxing thing usually takes until morning for it to work; I can start as early as 8PM and it'll actually do its job when the sun rises, I literally spent entire nights doing this *ONE* thing and it *ONLY* works when it's time to wake up for the day.
    4: The relaxing imagery part also always shoots up my nerves and anxiety and stress because every time I do it, my paranoia *ALWAYS* chimes in telling me every possible way I can die in every scenario I come up with; AND BEFORE ANY OF YOU SAY IT it's not something I can control, trust me, I've tried more times than I can remember.
    Should I go see a doctor about this or am I hopeless?

    I go to bed at 10 PM every night, but have difficulty falling asleep. I have generalized anxiety, so my mind just gets extremely uneasy. A few nights I may get 5-6 hours, but mostly, it is 2-3 hours of sleep, and that too after staying awake the whole night and falling asleep in the morning at 5 or 6 AM. Some nights, I don't get any sleep at all. It makes me wish I were unalive, the whole day. This chronically has decreased my life quality to a huge extent.

    • @MeemahSN
      @MeemahSN 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re focussing all of your energy on the fact that you can’t sleep and it’s making things harder for you. I used to do that all the time. What I do now is find a 24/h stream of rain or some other nature sound and then picture a scenario. It doesn’t matter what the scenario is as long as It’s interesting.
      For example: Think of a character. It can be one from a game or movie, or a character you’ve made up. Picture them strolling through a park in search of a giant willow tree to read the next instalment of their favourite book series under. Listen to the nature sounds you’re playing and incorporate them into this scenario, whether it be rain or something else. Come up with a way to progress the scenario - maybe a friend of the character shows up and invites them to get ice cream or visit a local café. Whatever you feel would work in your scenario and take it from there. Keep advancing your little story until you’re relaxed and no longer worrying about how much sleep you’re getting, and focus on your breathing. Don’t think about the time, don’t think about the fact that you’re still awake, just breathe. Keep breathing and relax yourself while you listen to the audio you have playing. If that isn’t working, go back to your story and picture another scenario that’s still in the same vein and keep this up until you fall asleep. Picturing a scenario that is completely unrelated to yourself will take you out of the here and now. Sometimes you’ll transition into sleep, other times you’ll need to try a breathing technique. Whatever works for you, stick by it.

    It usually does take me a long time to fall asleep. I usually end up staying up until midnight when 9pm is the goal.

    I suffer from chronic insomnia it hits me in two ways.
    I have tried all those methods. Some have worked for a while while others just don't. I always need sound because I hear sounds at night. I sometimes hear creepys since Creepsmcpasta has like an asmr voice. I listen to classical music specialy when I get a headache from not sleeping in several days. I put on ambient ocean sounds where it rains and thunders, sometimes I put on rain sounds hitting a window or cavin. That's the stuff that works the most but I stil have a hard time falling asleep. I throw in some meditation with body relaxation. I imagine I'm swimming with Shark or that I am with my BF just talking while star gasing or hearing the rain. It sometimes helps but I still have a hardtime sleeping. And with the insomnia that sometimes has me waking up a lot in the middle of the nigjt, all those times I wake up I take from 30 mins to an hour to fall asleep again. Sometimes I just can't sleep again eventhough I'm exausted.
    I have heard that "playing with yourself" helps. I will admit that yes it does. But without privacy it's something one can't always do. And my Insomnia still kicks in hard after a while of sleeping.

    I can take any sleeping pill offered at a regular cvs and not have it help me. I always have thoughts rushing though my head that i can't focus on shutting up. Sometimes let's say its a song stuck in my head for hours. Ill try picturing it on a boom box going through a shredder and then the pieces getting crushed and re shredded then putting them into acid and burning the leftovers from the acid in a kiln. (Seem a bit extensive but im being dead serious) sometimes ill play a calm Music live stream and that only helps on occasion. Its really bad for me. Once I'm finally asleep at least im stable at staying asleep. i find shockingly enough that blue lighting actually helps me get sleepy. I have those fancy Philips hue color changing bulbs ill set to bright blue before bed. Its odd. Then sometimes ill be just playing a video game and fall asleep doing something tedious like in fallout 4 with selling my excess water, guns, and other stuff. In the middle of the day when im not trying to sleep. Never seems to happen when i actually am trying to sleep. Ive tried. I seriously wish sooooo much that we either had a way to not require sleep to be healthy anymore or that i just had a switch like a computer to enter sleep mode. Its soooo bad!

    I have a different "problem" I couldn't stay awake, like I have works to be done. Although it's nice to have a great night sleep, I can't get anything done.
    What is the opposite of insomnia btw?

      I've heard of a desease where people just knock out for no reason but this deseas even happens during the day. I think your body is just used to something and can't change it.
      You can try setting up an alarm so you can wake up and do whatever you can.
