    Hi Guys!
    We recently had a talk at UP Pre Medical Society's LIWAYWAY Medical Convention 2021 and i really had a fun time. However, there were A LOT of unanswered questions due to limited time. So in this video, I will answer the left out questions and start a conversation with you guys!
    Hope you enjoy and learn from this one!
    On moonlighting/pre-residency
    01:33 Would you recommend moonlighting first before taking up your preferred specialization?
    02:26 Do you recommend taking gap year po before residency?
    03:00 How was your experience with moonlighting?
    04:40 How are the responsibilities of a resident different from the responsibilities of a moonlighter?
    06:00 Did you ever consider working/studying medicine abroad? What factors did you consider regarding this decision?
    On residency/specialized training
    06:45 Does the medical school you graduated from influence your chances in residency applications?
    07:35 How important are grades when applying for residency?
    08:15 When and how did you realize you wanted to specialize in Urology? Did you base your choice on skills or interest?
    09:10 What makes urology unique as compared to other medical specialties?
    09:30 Is it possible to move to a different specialization in the middle of residency training?
    09:45 What would you recommend doing when you realize that the specialized training you are currently on is not for you?
    10:05 Is it possible to have 3 specializations or a triple-board doctor here in the Philippines?
    On extra-curriculars
    10:45 How do you manage your time in the clinic and your time as a content creator on youtube?
    11:30 What if you are in the middle of vacation and a patient immediately needs you, would you cancel your vacation?
    On tips for aspiring medical practitioners
    12:00 What are your tips for those who wish to pursue private practice?
    12:30 Do you have any tips on "enduring ‘kupal’ culture" in medicine?
    14:00 What advice can you give to aspiring doctors?
    14:30 Is medicine only for the rich and the intelligent? Do you have any advice for those from a financially challenged family who still wishes to pursue medicine?
    15:20 Have you ever experienced giving a patient the wrong medication? If so, how did you go about this?

    Hi Doc! I know you won't remember me but I was once a medtech intern in vmmc. I can't remember if you were a PGI back then or a 1st year resident but when I told you I wanted to take up medicine, you sort of "influenced" me to study at your alma mater haha! Guess what, I am about to finish my clerkship and finally graduate medschool. I don't regret my decision following your advice back then and and up until now they are really helpful, especially this video. We appreciate how informative your videos are and looking forward for more! Thank you doc and ingat sa duty (hopefully, I'll be a surgeon too hehe)

    Doc Rome, any thoughts po sa Pathology as a specialty?

  • @francisjosephcatudio1521

    Dooooc!! Ang alam ko po ang kupal culture sa UP ay mostly pag mag-a-apply ka sa Orgs and 'hazing' po talaga siya. Pero ngayon po doc, wala na or very rare occurrences na lang ang 'kupalan' dahil sa anti-bullying act.
    Question po doc, gaano po katagal usually from board exam results to residency application and acceptance? Tsaka, kunwari po board certified na po kayo, tapos you decided to take another specialty, can you still practice your initial specialization while currently doing another residency training for another specialization?

    • @DocRome
      @DocRome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends sa situation, results hospital etc. and also, private practice during residency is not allowed

    Doc Rome thank u so much for this po!!! Helpful as always 💗 Doc will be taking up the board exam soon po, and ask ko lang po, i know a higher board rating is better but for u po, what board rating is considered competitive already in applying for residency? Thank u po in advance doc!

    • @DocRome
      @DocRome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmmm usually its 10-30 percent of your pre residency score. so it depends, still the higher the better

    Hi doc! I just want to ask. Before taking the NMAT, is it required to pass the board exam of my pre med course? Or after po ng 4-year pre-med ko pwede na po ako mag take ng NMAT to enter med school kahit di na po ako mag take ng board exam for the pre-med that I took?

    • @DocRome
      @DocRome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats up to you. its nice to pas the boards for pre med for fall back purposes. but you can skip it.

    Hi doc Rome, bilang urologist or specialist, can u still do primary care or general practice - for children, adults, pregnant? May time pa po ba kahit once or twice a week?

    • @DocRome
