Thank you for this podcast even after a year na tong reply..I’ve been a GP for almost 10 years now and hopefully will go back to train for FCM residency. Yess started my career as GP bec I don’t know what specialty to be in only to realize years after that a generalist - FCM pala talaga para sakin. Hope mas maraming younger doctors will go the primary care way kasi we are really needed lalo sa mga far flung areas na doctorless..

Nasabi ko lang yun ksi for some residencies esp kunwari sa military hospitals may age limit ang pag-enter ng training program nila pero bakit naman ipilit pa dun di ba hehe. I’ve had classmates in their 40s and even a co-intern in their 70s (of course special case nagffulfill na lang ng dream) and nakasabay pa sa board exams na nasa 50s. Kailangan na kailangan ng doctors ngayon tlga lalo sa provinces na ni isang doctor wala ang isang barrio. Go for it Ian!

How bout doctors who quit the practice? It's not a commonly talked about topic but in light of the present situation of the pandemic and even before there are doctors who quit the practice and did not see themselves in the folds of medicine.
i think regardless of your specialty of choice, you can attend any pre med course especially if plano mo magpursue ng Medicine. Majority are healthcare related courses, pero may mga classmates din ako na Agriculture, physics, architecture, and education graduates. As long as mkapasok ka sa med school tapos mag graduate, you can choose any specialty that you want to pursue on.
I think the best preparatory course for medicine is medical technology. One of the big advantage of having medtech as your pre-med is that you already tackled many major subjects that you will be going to take in med proper in taking medical technology. Subjects like Microbiology, Hematology, Immunology/Serology, Histopathology and Clinical Chemistry. Hindi ka na magulat sa aaralin mo sa med school since napag aralan mo na. Also, big advantage mo ay alam mo na lahat ng laboratory tests na nire request ng mga doctors. Alam mo na rin kung paano mag diagnose ng isang patient. Kakaunti na lang talaga aaralin mo compared to other pre-med courses. Sa Family Med naman, it's about being a jack-of-all-trades. Family med knows pre and post care. Kaya better suited ang family med as a primary care physician. Ma tackle mo kase lahat ng specialties sa hospital. Kaya you at least know the basics of each discipline.
