The "case in a case" pretending to be reusable or minimal packaging is a trend that needs to be wipes out. It's literally doing the exact opposite of the sustainable thing we want. I HATE greenwashing so, so much
She has done videos about this exact topic before, often the refills use significantly less plastic (by weight) so end up being a net loss in packaging BUT often it requires you to repurchase a product a few times in order to see that net effect over time. Do your ACTUAL research and you will see which products are saving plastic and which ones are using too much, the brands’ websites and neutral third party resources will have a ton of info
True. Though this original packaging looks thin so at least is less plastic. I wonder is the original packaging is recyclable and if the refillable is too. It worries me that the built in pump will make it difficukt if not impossible to separate the parts and make it non recyclable.
Frame it however you like, this is just another bottle in a bottle. Were the original bottle simply slimmer but made of the same material, there'd be less waste overall.
I mean she literally said she was only looking at a design perspective not sustainable packaging perspective.. so she didn’t really frame it any type of way. 😂 just was talking about how the possibility of it destabilizing & then how it would not because of the design.
I feel like it’s just redundant since why not the refill just be the product itself? Especially since it’s just gonna get put into a different container. That is just greenwashing at its finest.
@@off.arretezvousxbecause its sunscreen. sunscreen is 1 not recommended to change containers and 2 not recommended to be exposed to air before use or it wont work as formulated and tested. the same can be said for a lot of cosmetics which is why refills are difficult for them.
@@RAIJINMARU670 No, they're saying that since the refill has the pump built in and can function on its own, there's no reason for that outer casing to even be there
I don't get how this is great cause it's just more packaging with a decorative shell Those refill do nothing bit you feel liken you're doing something good
To be clear, I'm not suggesting this is a great example of sustainable packaging (it's not), I'm merely highlighting how the design differs from most "bottle in a bottle" refill designs
Why not just do it in a squeezy tube? This looks like a lot of packaging like each refill is a package in itself. I wouldn’t need the actual case. In fact I like it better without the case.
I have a few other videos where I discuss the sustainability of "bottle in a bottle" refills...while this one features a slightly different design, from a sustainability POV its not much better 🫠
Good question! There's a chance the outer component adds an additional layer of protection and/or improved barrier to air penetration. However in Sephora all of the shade testers do not include the outer component. That could be to make it easier for people to find their shade (since the refill labels are shade matched). But I'd be interested to hear from Fenty if the outer component has any function beyond allowing them to claim this is a "refill" and position the product as being more "sustainable"
@@allisonturquoise I mean, considering sunscreen shouldn't be kept in a clear package, I'd say the outer tube is necessary to block the sunrays. Now, if they just made the inner tube opaque, then there might not be a need for an outer packaging.
@@acrojen03 they look like they’re already in opaque containers. Correct me if I’m wrong but they appear to be in matte white bottles with a color label wrap around
Unrelated but you have such pretty eyes and the way you do your eye makeup is really flattering, can we get an eye makeup tutorial? Technique, products used, etc 😁❤️
It's a black-owned brand. She needs to tread lightly or risk being cancelled. If the packaging came from Dior or Benefit, it would have been thoroughly shatted on.
I think the point she was making was that there aren’t a lot of good options for refillable SPF products that don’t risk compromising the formula, so Fenty used this design to get around that. She fully acknowledges in the video that this isn’t really green and the “refill” can probably be used on its own. It was more of an explanation video than a callout.
It's an interesting design (compared to other bottle in a bottle refills) but I agree. I'm not convinced this package makes significant reductions in material use or carbon emissions
Or they could just use a normal plastic tube instead of a whole bottle in bottle. Just one outer bottle and put the tube with pump attached in? Atleast its less plastic.
Thats so funny, what theyve done is create a top heavy sunscreen bottle with a case. Its like making a phone case the "product" and calling the phone a refill
Would be perfect if it would be a pouch with the built in pump. Also, I wonder if the refillable comes loose or in a box. If it comes in a box, a pouch wouldn't create extra packaging.
I don’t think it’s safe to use the transparent refill on its own because some sunscreen ingredients degrade when exposed to sunlight. Hope they considered that while designing the packaging.
That's deliberate in order to force you to buy the whole thing. It's masquerading as good for the e environment Id just put black tape or similar over it
Hello! Im not sure if you've already made a video but Ulta began a beauty recycling initiative and Id love if you did a video on it. Id love to know if its really all that effective or sustainable, does it go to any old recycling facility or a specific one?
Because most bottle in a bottle packaging the pump feature only comes with the full component (outer component + inner component), so consumers essentially have to purchase the full component (instead of just the refill) to get the pump and be able to dispense the product
They've ensured you can't buy the refill being see through So the product is damaged by the sun/light Very deliberately But you could probably just put tape pr black paint over it
Does this mean that every time that I use my spf that comes in a squeeze tube I am destabilising the filters and lowering its efficacy with every use? because when I'm opening the cap doesn't that expose the spy to the air?
This is neat but how it is sustainable…? You’re not refilling the same bottle with new product, you’re buying a whole new product and then just putting it in the same carrying case?

And i just checked the refill (at least in my country) is literally more expensive than the original bottle 💀

Frame it however you like, this is just another bottle in a bottle. Were the original bottle simply slimmer but made of the same material, there'd be less waste overall.
Ik, Kim K's packaging received a bad feedback bc of the bottle in a bottle situation. But somehow it's okay when Rihanna did it

@@allisonturquoise thank you! honestly what I was thinking but wanted confirmation lol 🤍
It’s less “refillable packaging” and more just offering a case to put your self contained makeup in. Like a case to put an unpeeled banana in
Wouldn't the extra tube to input the refil in add protection to the sunscreen refills from denaturing ?

I wish the US update their outdated sunscreen FDA law. Newer filter can be combined with old filter so it applied more elegantly in the skjn

It is. I tried it on my hand in store and it has very sheer coverage (although the lightest shade left my hand looking a little orange 🥲)
