Totally Legit Gaming [TLEG] his videos haven't been showing up in my subscription feed, as well as those of others. Hence the complaints from viewers and uploaders.
Quite possibly the most mature analysis of the "welded diff" scenario. Haters going to hate. And like you said Greg. It's all about the budget drift life.
WHERE WAS THIS VIDEO 3 MONTHS AGO..... haha I welded my 1.6 diff this summer and this would have saved me a few hours but you live and you learn! I've done two drift events on mine with 0 issues as apposed to everyone that said it would blow up asap. If you're really wanting to get into drifting try and get some modified knuckles these cars love to spin out and that extra steering angle is a life saver! Still my favorite channel ever! Keep on making Miata magic!
Im usually not the most patient viewer. But your videos are pretty straight to the point, good information and feel shorter than they are. That's why i really enjoy watching them, keep it up!
Thanks man that's what I really shoot for. I think the diff info went on too long in this one but it's like a slippery slope, there's too much to talk about when it comes to all the different ones lmao
Hey Greg I am 52 years old and bought a British race green 91 Miata just to goof around in on the weekends but after watching many of your videos you have inspired me to go all out and boost the little green machine. Thanks for the great advice but most of all thanks for the inspiration
@carpassionchannel thank you for all of your videos, including ypur time and effort as well as comedy. you made me so confident in getting another miata and keeping it as a long term daily. thanks again.
You don't actually have to loosen anything on the control arms. As you're lowering the diff, you can move the diff to each side to free it from the axles. You probably already knew that and ik you're just trying to make it easier for the solo worker. It's just a little less work imo
You were picking on your dog at the end of the video about being camera shy. Well I had a dog the REALLY was camera shy, (true story)! He was a Flatcoated Retriever and he hated cameras! It was so funny! He would not stay still to have a photo taken as a result, I hardly have any photos of him that are real good. I think I told you before, he LOVED my miata. He would read the road and counter lean going into turns and when I'd change the oil he'd try to get under the car with me. He was a nut. I sure miss him. They have a short life span and only live to 9 yrs old. He even counter leaned while being driven to get put down.
Hey Greg! Long time watcher love all the videos you post. I'm building my own broke and boosted at the moment (92 red Miata) and im about to get a welded diff for it. I've been curious to know what your recommendation was in welding the spider gears vs plate welding in a 200-250whp Miata. I hear plate welding is stronger if done right but if spider gears welds will hold on 250 I would rather go that route. Thanks Greg! Best Miata content by far!
Aghhh....was hoping this was a video showing how to take apart the diff to weld it by yourself. So really it's another diff remove/replace video. That's cool though...more info out there, the better. Giving a thumbs up!
Hey Greg, I'm not sure if you have done a video over flip up lights, but could you do a full tear down/rebuild of the actual housing? Thanks and awesome channel !
I've done a couple of drift events on a VLSD and if you are daily driving it, then the diff is great and when drifting it is still pretty good. My complaint with the VLSD is that it doesn't have as much lock as I would like.
We've been at abput 25 degrees here in Utah. I wish we had a "frigid 60 degrees" 😂 jk, I love snowboarding. I just bought a $500 Miata that I plan to build over the winter
great video mate! I've swapped in my 1.6 the 6speed with the torsen 3.6 for all the guys out there this is awesome mod for turbo cars but for NA I would recon at least the 4.1 torsen or 4.3. Still mine is NA and drifts like a charm! :)
I will keep that in mind, if I ever change the gearing with the 4.1, I could ship you the 3.6...But for now, my priorities are better brakes and new seats...
True story. Way back in the day, early '90's, my buddy had a old '70's Dodge truck with a 318 in it. Open diff. And man would that truck light up that one tire. We could do burn outs for ever, always one wheel, but they would go for a couple blocks. It was a beat up old farm truck and was loud and rusty.
That is sick im going to be glued to it! I'm ordering my pistons for my 1.6l tomorrow decided to use the wiseco 78.5mm debating on making a build video for an entry into the you tube world. Just want to say thanks for all the info and actually informative videos you put out!
great vids as always. question about wheel size. I have just fitted a willwood dynalite kit like yours but now my 15" azev A alloys dont fit! can you do a video on your willwood kit? what size are your alloys fitted with those calipers? cheers
I haven't had any problems with mine. They've been through about 7-8 track days and no cracks or anything. They're a little bit heavier than the Enkei RPF1 (What this wheel is an almost identical copy to) but almost $100 cheaper per corner.
Haha I know the feeling, I'm always bummed when other channels release a video that I was already working on. But It's still cool to see everyone's spin on a topic (pun intended)
Car Karl Yes I wanna do a bumper cut video even though literally everyone has done that video already haha. I just think it looks weak with stock exhaust though so I might try to borrow a Miata to do it
Im not getting notifications from you when you upload and I have been subscribed for a while now. It happened to a lot of channels I am subscribed too.
this is off topic of this video but would you recommend getting the ebc electronic boost control solenoid kit when I order my diypnp megasquirt. I'm planning on boosting my 1992 miata. I watched your wideband o2 sensor video and I got that installed so next step is megasquirt. Thanks, Matt
Using the MS boost control is more difficult to tune than a MBC, but you can get it way more dialed in. Once you learn how to use it, you'll love it. That's what I ran on my other car, I have a video on my other channel that covers the basics of open loop EBC tuning with MS. Just search "BoostVlog"
So i just got my miata bout 2 or 3 months ago. Idk if i have a lsd or welded diff? I spin the wheel and the other one spins. So how do i no if its lsd or welded?
Yo Greg. How likely are the axles of either a 1.6 or 1.8 na/nb miata to break? By that, I mean to snap, crack, deform a.s.o under big torque. I'd love to know- thanks.
Hey, I just bought my '93 Miata last Sunday for $750 but it's knocking. I found a 1.8 motor and trans with a Garret turbo on craigslist with 100k. I'm planning on buying it and doing the swap (it comes with flying miata swap). Should I be concerned about my 1.6 diff reliability right away? I'm wondering exactly what I should prioritize to make it reliable, without spending a lot of money at once of course. I'd like to make it a "daily". Thanks you have so much helpful content on your channel.
If the "knocking" you're talking about is actually rod bearing knock, the motor probably doesn't have long to live. If it's just lifter tick, it's fine, it could go another 100,000 miles
TheCarPassionChannel actually pulled the valve cover off today just to see if maybe it was just a lifter tick, and those lifters wouldn't budge at all. Pulled them all out and cleaned em, and she purrs real good now. Pretty happy for a $700 miata!
thanks, had no idea you uploaded any videos since the motor popped until yesterday because of that crap. and nobody else mentioned how to fix it, just ranted and conplained about how their views fell off but gave no explanation or fix\workarounds.
Bro! I've been watching your videos for a minute now and I have always wondered were in San Diego you live. Bro you are so close. Bro I need your help man.. Im in to the Miata and I have questions?.. like I have a 1.6 do I keep it or get a 1.8? What do you think?
I have a welded diff that i did without a plate with a stick welder, was my first time but i blasted that shit in there, will i be good at 170 whp to rag on it?
is daily a welded diff really that bad compared to an open diff? like going 40mph round bends ect? been wanting to weld mine for a while now but don't know how badly I'd have to change up my driving?
Parking and slow corners (under 25mph) are the only times you'll notice it. And you don't have to change your driving, you'll just hear the chirping and feel the car jumping slightly forward/back. Even in the rain it's not sketchy at all, just drive normal.
i was going to get the lowest gear ration i could find and weld it just for my daily like a 3.36 or close. whats the hp range you think that ration of diff would hold b4 giving out. i wouldnt be getting that hard on it(clutch kick) or anything. just wanting better mpg for my drive to work EVERY DAY
Ben Jammin i saw the whole video. but used torsens are so easy to find and cheap why weld it when u can just use the stock torsen and not have to go through all the negatives. i had a vlsd in my 91 and went torsen
Doods, don't need notifications. Everybody begging for notifications. If you don't know a video's been posted, just check your subscriptions feed... duh...
Seriously, are people NOT checking their subscription feed? I have never ever missed a video from any of the people I'm subbed to.

Awesome man! It really becomes a different car once it's turbocharged, it's great.
Frigid 60 degrees eh? xD
That's T-shirt and shorts weather here in Michigan.
So glad I am not the only one rocking heavy jackets in 60 degree weather. Cold is bullshit.
@carpassionchannel thank you for all of your videos, including ypur time and effort as well as comedy. you made me so confident in getting another miata and keeping it as a long term daily. thanks again.
i recently bought a 1990 with coilovers and a welded diff...i have not drive it much but it does mad drifts at my back yard lol
You don't actually have to loosen anything on the control arms. As you're lowering the diff, you can move the diff to each side to free it from the axles. You probably already knew that and ik you're just trying to make it easier for the solo worker. It's just a little less work imo

I've got a welded diff and PS delete in my mk2 GTI... It's a workout on pavement but it's got wicked good grip in the dirt.
Aghhh....was hoping this was a video showing how to take apart the diff to weld it by yourself. So really it's another diff remove/replace video. That's cool though...more info out there, the better. Giving a thumbs up!
2017 mark my words... I'm buying a welder!!!
frigid 60 degree weather?
Here in Michigan it was 50 the other day and it felt amazing haha
Untamed Rider nice t-shirt weather here.
the downside is that finding a non rusty mx5 is near impossible where the colder Temps are.
jamieee321 Im in ct its snowing and raining everyday
Untamed Rider yeah. in North of England. 62f is a nice temp.
60 degrees = California winter
you always have the best car videos
Hey Greg, I'm not sure if you have done a video over flip up lights, but could you do a full tear down/rebuild of the actual housing? Thanks and awesome channel !
top quality as always, keep it up man
you're the best greg keep up the awesome content 😎👌
You are the expert at busting Miata nuts
Will an LSD be as effective for drifting, but way better for dailying?
1. Almost
2. A lot better
Totally Legit Gaming [TLEG] Agree with Ism Ael 100%
Totally Legit Gaming [TLEG] waaaaay better for daily, and if its the Torsen LSD than it will drift for sure 100% positive.
My torsen drifts just as good as my friends welded diff, and the torsen never wheel hops or chirps.
I've done a couple of drift events on a VLSD and if you are daily driving it, then the diff is great and when drifting it is still pretty good. My complaint with the VLSD is that it doesn't have as much lock as I would like.

So jealous of your 3.6, I really want to find one for my other car.
I will keep that in mind, if I ever change the gearing with the 4.1, I could ship you the 3.6...But for now, my priorities are better brakes and new seats...
More of PassionDog please :-). Awesome job as usual sir.
Nice job as always. Keep it up man!

"it is actually easier to put these axles in the diff while it's still on the ground"- starts whacking it with a hammer
i have a turbo yoda notification sound from zedge its great when your videos go online
@TheCarPassionChannel where is the engine build? I've been patiently waiting im way excited to watch it!
Trent Feikls Stay tuned tomorrow my friend
That is sick im going to be glued to it! I'm ordering my pistons for my 1.6l tomorrow decided to use the wiseco 78.5mm debating on making a build video for an entry into the you tube world. Just want to say thanks for all the info and actually informative videos you put out!
great vids as always. question about wheel size. I have just fitted a willwood dynalite kit like yours but now my 15" azev A alloys dont fit! can you do a video on your willwood kit? what size are your alloys fitted with those calipers? cheers
While the notification system is nice, I have had video notification come 4-6 hours late.
Also, what are the rims that Broke and Boosted has?
Michael Galbraith Konig Wideopen
TheCarPassionChannel How much did you pay for them?
I've got the same wheels but in gold. And Michael Galbraith mine were $120 each
The86OfMtAkina Are they good quality wheels? I'm interested in getting these eventually but I don't want to risk running a bad wheel.
I haven't had any problems with mine. They've been through about 7-8 track days and no cracks or anything. They're a little bit heavier than the Enkei RPF1 (What this wheel is an almost identical copy to) but almost $100 cheaper per corner.
Boss content as always.
Sick vid as usual!
I recognize that Diff ;)
No! you beat me to this episode lol good stuff like always. I loved seeing that one tire fire haven't heard the term peg leg in so long lol
Haha I know the feeling, I'm always bummed when other channels release a video that I was already working on. But It's still cool to see everyone's spin on a topic (pun intended)
That burnout launch was sick, thought about bumpercutting B&B?
Car Karl Yes I wanna do a bumper cut video even though literally everyone has done that video already haha. I just think it looks weak with stock exhaust though so I might try to borrow a Miata to do it
great info Greg!
Im not getting notifications from you when you upload and I have been subscribed for a while now. It happened to a lot of channels I am subscribed too.
would upvote again
are those konig wideopen? and what tires are you running
nice primitive beanie! and great video!!
welding the stock 1.6 differential is a cheap alternative to a torsen swap? how does this keep the diff from breaking?
The MIATA GOD
this is off topic of this video but would you recommend getting the ebc electronic boost control solenoid kit when I order my diypnp megasquirt. I'm planning on boosting my 1992 miata. I watched your wideband o2 sensor video and I got that installed so next step is megasquirt. Thanks, Matt

Was that you in MCM Subarute part 2 at 18:36 ?
t'was
Nice work
Hey Greg, is Broke and Boosted imported from Europe? It has the European side marker lights.
No the previous owner installed them, I think they're ugly :/
Yo Greg.
How likely are the axles of either a 1.6 or 1.8 na/nb miata to break?
By that, I mean to snap, crack, deform a.s.o under big torque.
I'd love to know- thanks.
Miata/B2000 Spool group buy NEEDED! Welded diff life, street drifter cred!
Hey Greg how did you make your outro? its sick!
I have the 1.6 VLSD, haven't really found much info on if it's stronger than the open dif.
No. All 1.6L cars have a 6" ring, 1.8L cars have a 7" ring. Open vs Torsen vs VLSD doesn't matter.
TheCarPassionChannel Thanks.
Also, what is happening with your online shop?
Hey, I just bought my '93 Miata last Sunday for $750 but it's knocking. I found a 1.8 motor and trans with a Garret turbo on craigslist with 100k. Or better yet i no its not welded how do u tell apart a viscus and torsen lsd diff?
I have a Fuji in my NB - it's "meh" at best. Quaife would be awesome. Hope to meet you at AX someday in 2017. Jan 21 is the next event at "the Q".
Hoping to have the other Miata ready to run maybe February or March and get back out there. It's been way too long!
Isn't it possible to run the FC RX7 LSD in the NA? i would figure those are pretty cheap.
What's the emblem on the front of your car?
i stripped the transmision fuller bolt, sucks realy bad.. It is a old 1.6 so you cant full it from above
3:46 These nuts
great vídeo dude!
how do i tell what ratio is in my 99 and how do i tell if mine is a pos or a one tire burn-out. ( besides burn-outs
thanks, had no idea you uploaded any videos since the motor popped until yesterday because of that crap. and nobody else mentioned how to fix it, just ranted and conplained about how their views fell off but gave no explanation or fix\workarounds.
Explanations, my specialty. **sunglasses guy emoji**
Bro! I've been watching your videos for a minute now and I have always wondered were in San Diego you live. Bro you are so close. Bro I need your help man.. Im in to the Miata and I have questions?.. like I have a 1.6 do I keep it or get a 1.8? What do you think?
on my 96 Mazda Miata I have a LSD but it doesn't have the axle flanges it's just straight into the differential
Yeah there are 2 different styles of axles. Yours can still interchange with the 2-piece axles.
I have a welded diff that i did without a plate with a stick welder, was my first time but i blasted that shit in there, will i be good at 170 whp to rag on it?
where did you welded
Is welding it that bad? Like does it put a lot of stress on the transmission or engine or anything?
I'd guess the CV shafts will probably fail early being under more stress, but mine has held up fine so far.
dang 2 years ago from yesterday
is daily a welded diff really that bad compared to an open diff? like going 40mph round bends ect?
been wanting to weld mine for a while now but don't know how badly I'd have to change up my driving?
Parking and slow corners (under 25mph) are the only times you'll notice it. And you don't have to change your driving, you'll just hear the chirping and feel the car jumping slightly forward/back. Even in the rain it's not sketchy at all, just drive normal.

3800-3900rpm at 70 mph doesn't feel right to me
matt giles you should invest in a megasquirt and tune to lean out where you cruise :)
YOU DID THIS AT A SCHOOL, PLEASE TEACH THOSE KIDS HOW TO DO A BURNOUT
why did you weld the diff? the lockup on my torsen i got from a 99 sport works plenty good enough to drift easily and im not even turbo in my 91.
its crazy how if you actually watch the video you'll get the answer to your questions
Ben Jammin i saw the whole video. but used torsens are so easy to find and cheap why weld it when u can just use the stock torsen and not have to go through all the negatives. i had a vlsd in my 91 and went torsen
+Mr. CarPedia Torsen swap is usually $650. This was About $125 including the diff.
Greg how do you like that aluminum jack? I've been considering getting it.
It works great but expect to replace it every 1-2 years haha. I try to find them on sale, usually $60-$70
TheCarPassionChannel
that's what I thought :( If I'm going to spend the money rather get something that last for a while.
nice videos
Awesome tutorial brudder, wouldve loved it if you showed off the welds
Check out @robspecperformance on IG he's got a pic on there.
Is the 1.6 Vlsd weldable?
Blue B6ZE It's best to weld an open diff. I'm not sure if it's impossible to weld a VLSD, but it's not optimal.
Oh - it's cold? 60 degrees? : (
Come to Steamboat Springs brotha - put that cold temp to good use!
Frigid 60 degrees?
Man, it was 27 degrees when i went out to get the mail in my pajamas today. I'd kill for 60+ right now
But will any Torsen LSD fit my NB or do I need a 99 or newer diff?
Yes you can use ANY Miata Torsen in your 99.
Ding squad 😀
can you just weld the current diff and re-install it instead of buying a whole other diff?
Yes, I just wanted a spare
seeing you drive around east county is funny lmfao
what is the viscosity of the differential fluid? thanks in advance.
John Holsopple 75-90
Wesley Hand thanks
I love that car :)
I have a 97 miata and I want to swap a 6 speed into it n I have a turbo and is it worth it let me know. soon
✌
weld all diffs!!!
Doods, don't need notifications. Everybody begging for notifications.
If you don't know a video's been posted, just check your subscriptions feed... duh...
lmao the end clip was great
the spongegar meme would be perfect for the end of the video lmao
njyuphoto My exact thoughts
I think your original diff was a vlsd
Jean-Luc CG Open. Only some NA6 cars had vlsd's
notification gang ✌🔔🔔🔔
The dislike must be from a pedestrian that heard your tyres screaming while making this video. He's mad
I hate my one tire fire so much lol. Should probably upgrade soon
Demolished my 1.6 diff and decided to drop the coin on a 1.8 swap but didn't have enough for the Torsen
I subbed cuz I like the way he describes things for idiots
When i'm parking people usually say, dude! i think you r car is broken! Or, I think u got a flat! hahaha!
Am steal waiting for his drift videos...
XD You think that's cold??
That's shorts weather with an open pool!
is it boosted
Zachary Jalbert Yes
I had to resubscribe and click the bell. TH-cam unsubscribed me again.
I love hearing how 62 is cold lol
