    Good story, Lamont. Those game shows don't tell the public everything. I know a woman who was on the Price Is Right and won a brand new car. After she won it, she found out that she had to pay thousands of dollars in taxes on the car. Sure, she won the car, but still paid thousands in taxes on the car. The Price Is Right probably figured some people would just decide not to take the car. She felt misled, and decided to give the car to her mother.

    • @IndividualsJasonJ
      @IndividualsJasonJ ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Not The Price Is Right shows fault.... thank your government.
      Now you can't even sell more than $600 of items that you already paid taxes on without paying taxes on it AGAIN when you sell it... unless you kept the original receipt from years ago and can prove a loss, but nobody keeps a receipt to a CD they bought in 2008. For example, you want to sell a CD on ebay.... you paid taxes when you originally purchased it, the person you sold it to paid taxes on it when they bought it from you, and now you get to pay taxes on it a second time! Thanks JOE and the Dems! Now ask yourself why they want to do away with cash and have all digital currency.

      @john_from_eastcoast. ปีที่แล้ว +23

      All the game shows are like that! You have to pay taxes and also file it as income too! it's her fault for not knowing that.

    • @bobbysmela3942
      @bobbysmela3942 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      actually prize money is considered income for some reason, so the government expects you to pay income tax. Guess what we the American People are NOT required to pay income tax in any form, including prize money. I bought and read Income Tax Shattering the Myth, and it's an eye opener, on who the income tax actually applies to and it doesn't apply to 98% the American People. That includes taxes on prizes. please buy and read the book, you will be shocked and ticked off how the government has been scamming the American People.

      Larson’s tenacity and confidence led him to beat the Game Show at their own game, fair and square. It is a shame his bright light bulb only shone one time. His inflation-adjusted winnings(2022) of nearly $300,000 remains an impressive claim to fame, to this day.

    I'm not sure. He might have just been lucky enough to figure out the pattern just as you said. Just because you figure something out doesn't mean you're scamming. Later in his life he might have scammed but my feeling is that he was just lucky enough to "get" this.

    He won it fair and square as he played by the rules. I’m sure the game show learned a lesson and fixed their patterns afterwards but he won fairly Imo. It’s like blackjack at the casino, you can learn to count cards in their head (few can) but it’s just beating them at their own game. The casinos have learned to detect card counting these days but in the early days they couldn’t.

    On May 18, 1984, three weeks prior to this Larson episode ( Episode 173) was the most exciting and tense episode. Becky Steeler won $33,410 in ONE SHOW . This episode was when Becky & Paul ( challengers) accumulated collectively over $56,000 ( Paul had $24,611) Both Becky and Paul had both spun without hitting a single whammy throughout the entire show. Check out Episode 173 on TH-cam

    Memorizing the board isn't a scam, it's the show's own fault. If you want to avoid someone from memorizing the pattern, make it random each episode to prevent that from ever happening. If I watched Press Your Luck every day and the pattern never changed, I would be able to memorize it as well.
    They actually brought back Press Your Luck a couple of years ago and it's now hosted by Elizabeth Banks, it can be watched on Hulu, I think they just finished season 3. I heard of this story before and was paying very close attention to the board to see if it were possible to memorize the pattern now. They seem to have learned their lesson after Larson. The pattern is completely random.

    I used to watch this show as a kid. I remember the contests as they spun used to say "Big bucks,no whammy and stop" as they hit the button and sometimes they would get the whammy, other times the money, but this guy played the game perfectly, and beat them at their own game. They were just soar loosers just like the casinos that don't like you counting cards cause the rich always want to get richer.R.I.P. and you were very smart and did well for yourself, even if it was only for a short time.

    Kind of reminds me of the guy on “The Price Is Right”. He guessed the exact price and moved on to the big money prize. He guessed the exact price. The host asked him how he knew the exact prices, he said he was a super fan and remembered the exact prices of the prizes because they had the same items on the week before and he remembered the prices. Did he cheat?!? I say no.

    He didn't scam the game show, he just found the algorithm, like everyone else is saying. If you go back to the early 50's, tv game shows like Twenty-One and The $64,000 question were found to be fixed or had given the players the answers, so they knew they would win before anyone else would. This was not the case lol

    I watched those episodes when they aired in ‘84. I could see he had figured out the pattern. The guy was brilliant! Once he got past the $100k mark, he passed his spins. Eventually, the other player passed spins back to him. He was obviously tired and losing his concentration. On his final spin, he landed on the same space that contained the whammy he hit in the 1st round. Thankfully, there was a prize in that space for his final spin instead of a whammy. Sad how his life turned out.
