Thank you for highlighting the lack of customisation in the instrument cluster with NTG 7, I hate it so much and miss it from my W177. Also, NTG 6 also had themes and "full screen" sat-nav, so it's literally just a missing feature, rather than a replacement.
No worries! Most models these days are always going to drive good! It’s down to the experience etc in the car and certainly how all of the gadgets work! 🤓
Hi Nick, I have a C class AMG line with NTG 7. With the latest software update Mercedes indicated that NTG7 would get You Tube app for playing videos. After downloading new software I did not have You Tube and could not play video accessed through the NTG7 browser. I asked Mercedes UK who stated that my car - no 360 cameras - had NTG7 mid and that I needed NTG High to play video through the browser. So it appears different NTG7 variants and I suspect chip sets. My version does everything else so not a big deal but thought it might help your followers. Keep up the great work 😊Neil
Thanks for sharing! Oh a TH-cam browser would be good, but sadly not seen that on my car. I have seen it on the latest E-Class which I reviewed at my local dealer. It’s either MBUX NTG 7.5 or MBUX NTG 8 (Gen 2 or Gen 3 of MBUX). Good to know though thank you!

The You Tube app would have been a great addition and when you review cars with NTG7.5 and NTG8 it would be of interest to know how well the app works. I went from NTG 5.1 to NTG 7. It took a bit to get used to it. I like it but oddly I miss the COMAND wheel. You could select next track with it and never take your eyes off the road.
Nick❤ you can’t distinguish the NTG platform based on steering wheel shape. CLS, AMG GT, E class all have latest style steering wheel but comes with NTG6. G class uses round steering wheel with touch button but is with COMAND. V class comes with even older triangular design but comes with NTG6…. all confusing
It’s just a general rule of thumb 🤓 It’s quite tricky to determine over comments on TH-cam what a car has (what version etc) but Mercedes do have a lot of models! 👀
I have the first generation of MBUX in my A class. I'll get to experience the new version when I get a new A class next year. Looking forward to the improvements.

In cars with MBUX I’ve found over the years it’s only with cars that have Augmented Reality as they have a higher processing graphic chipset to cope with video.

Hi Nick.watched most of your videos on glc which I purchased 3 wks ago. On the instrument cluster the left hand side does not customise but yhe centre and right side do,is this correct?I have ntg 6 version.
Hey, David yes that’s right GLC’s & C-Class are like that, they don’t have the long screen across the dashboard so are slightly different. Just the centre and right hand are available for customisation from what I’ve seen 🤓 Hope that helps!
On my 23 s580 is there a way to change tracks from the steering wheel? Also in the Guage cluster how do I get different things to show in the middle I figured how to change to all the diff gauge clusters but can you customize them at all?
Ah the latest models of Mercedes only allow pre set themes so you can’t customise each individual dial. But you can change the track. On the Classic Pre set theme the one with the dials, swipe the up/down buttons closest the driver’s door to find what’s playing then you can swipe left/right.

A little late to the party here… I have MBUX NTG 6 (2020 AMG GLC63), in a loaner last week (2024 c-class) it had the NTG 7. I really enjoyed the features of NTG 7, but LOVE my engine in my AMG GLC63. Any way to upgrade to NTG 7, or does it become cost prohibitive, if obtainable at all? Mahalo, as always greatly appreciate your content & excellent videos! Hi, I have questions about overthe air updates in EQE. Does the car has its own internet connection that can be updated? With out phone connection can I use music streaming?
OTA updates are all switched on through Mercedes me automatically when it’s active but for music streaming, you’ll need to either pay for a data plan or get your phone to broadcast as a hotspot for the car

Do you know why it is impossible to exclude a charging station on my trip when it's possible on NTG7 (i tried on an EQE). I'm afraid that this video is not entirely accurate. There is a hybrid system between NTG6 and 7. My 2024 GLE450 has the NTG6 physical layout, but with wireless CarPlay and the same instrument cluster and steering wheel that you described for the NTG7. I am in the US.
Yeah that’s the facelift, since all of the facelifts have come out they all have different generations of MBUX. The generation of MBUX defines all of the things in this video. This is for the UK though, unsure if it’s different in other countries. I guess the only thing that is slightly different is that since I made this, some models of Mercedes still have widescreens whereas some have vertical screens. You can usually tell the difference between the generations by the voice assistant animation. Waves are MBUX generation one (NTG 6) Sparkles are MBUX generation two (NTG 7 or newer 🤓) Hope that helps!
Thought it would be worth mentioning that you can not determine if a car has NTG6 or NTG7, only by looking at the style of screens. It’s a nice rule of thumb, but a lot of the newer facelifts has the ‘old’ widescreen display, but the new NTG7 - like the new A-class FL 👍🏼 The by far fastest and easiest way to determine if a car has NTG6 or NTG7 is to check the instrumentcluster customization 👍🏼 Good video!
Absolutely, it’s okay to use a rule of thumb but always best to check. Due to vast complexities of spec these days, always best to double check when ordering a car with Mercedes 🤓

Hey Adrian, it’s not that it’s disabled it’s just not installed. It sadly will never be allowed unless the United Nations change the regulation. I believe cars need to have something like a hands on/hands off sensor to have such technologies
No sadly new generations of MBUX are new systems as in new cars and new hardware etc. it’s unfortunately not a software update. It has new hardware like graphics cards, processors, displays, wireless CarPlay capabilities etc

True…the B250e but that wasn’t completely designed by Mercedes. It had tech taken from Tesla (apparently). Mercedes only made that for a short while and removed it from their line up. Pretty sure they might have made one years ago before that too But not mass produced
Hi Nick. I am a little confused. I picked up my new A class 180 premium plus last Friday. I have just watched your video. And according to the info I have the NTG 6 with the 10.5 screen across the dash. But my Apple play fires up on the screen as soon as I get in the car, with the phone still in my pocket. Also I am able the start up the 360 cameras and spin the car around with indicators etc. I can also play all my videos from my usb c port. How can I tell if I have the NTG6 OR 7.
Hey Michael, that’s right. C-Class’s and GLC’s have a slightly different multimedia system on their instrument clusters. It should be NTG 5.5 as they don’t have a full widescreen across the dashboard, they have spectate screens so only the right dial can be changed along with the centre dial.
Hi Nick…Great videos, helped big time with the Mercedes cars. I have recently picked up a new A35. It still has the MBUX NTG6. I have a quick question about Navigation and POI’s. Its been suggested by another TH-cam video by someone else that you can load Speed Camera data using the Personal POI option. But on my car the Personal POI option is greyed out. Does that mean it isnt available on the A35 or does some option need to be enabled to open up the personal POIs? I can find no information on the Marcedes documentation

Hi Nick. Do you know if NTG 7 has a different map version number to NTG 6. I have just traded up to the facelift model with NTG 7 and it says I have the latest version map which is 2024 (v18.0). Yet the A Class I have just traded had NTG 6 and the map version was 2024 (21.0). Doesn't seem logical to me. What version do you have on your Facelift model?
Hey tonyloughman4842, ah yes they have different versions as far as I’ve heard because NTG 6.0 has been out for longer. It will have needed more updates because of its age. Sadly not looked at mine as I just use CarPlay all the time 😅
It’s on my list of potential future video ideas. As I make videos for a living I just have to balance what is right for everyone and what I think will do well. But I’ve got some Mercedes videos pencilled in over the next few months so keep an eye out!
I was informed by Mercedes that NTG 6 was available in two screen sizes and due to coding on the system, they had to utilise the 7” version to make it compatible with the 10.25” version too. The newer version NTG 7 although has bigger screens, Apple CarPlay and it’s display size is still the same as the base version. The MBUX Hyperscreen won’t have CarPlay any larger than the S-Class portrait screen.
Some NTG 6 cars have the all-touch-pad steering wheel. I'm in the US, but I believe all current year E-classes have NTG 6 and the newer wheel. It's awful btw. Give us all back rollers and real buttons.
When they first introduced it, I asked them and it was to make it simpler to use. According to statistics, barely anyone changed the screens so they made it easier with pre sets. I did like the fact you could change everything though! That was cool!

I have a 2024 GLE 450 on order and although it doesn't have a portrait display and does have a mousepad in the center, it does have features that you associate with NTG 7 only. For example it does have wireless iCarPlay. So I'm wondering if it still is NTG 6 but maybe with updated features or if it is actually NTG 7 for the widescreen format? Hopefully you can take a look and give us a video on that!

Oh my God, what will NTG 20 do. This is why all modern cars are just a race between multi media systems. So, in other words a year after you buy your new Merc it's superseded by the next version and so on and so on. When will it stop ✋️

NTG6 is sucks, Apple car play with tiny screen ? How previous model is better than new one. No way ! Work hard Mercedes engineers driving BMW series. I believe Chinese money ruins "Mercedes".
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before. The reason is because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

Previous NTG 5.X version support full screen of apple Carplay (Check the below footage) th-cam.com/video/lQiF8AhmuwI/w-d-xo.html You mentioned other manufactures have or had same issue but which companies have this issue except for Mercedes? BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Toyota, Honda and so on, these companies do not have this problem. I believe most Car manufactures never support cropped screen. I am living in Korea, and people still have not understood this issue still happened, moreover if you just type out and search in google then you will find this is also issue in the US, the UK. I want to point out that this issue happened since 2019 (almost 4~5 years). But Mercedes-Benz is turning a blind eye to this, even though owners of the NTG 6 system are experiencing inconvenience. Well, to put this simply, as 'customers', if we do not like this then, we can just change our minds to choose another brand (BMW, AUDI and so on). Because we are living in 'Market Economy'. This issue is just about owners having old series model and may be nothing for Mercedes, but if Mercedes is a luxury brand, I think they should take care of even a small problem for our loyal customers. Small things make a big difference. As owner of Mercedes E-Class, I hope Mercedes officials will be aware of this issue.

What is the latest version of ntg6? Mine is currently: apilevel/ntg6_fup2/063. The car is: Mercedes-Benz B-Class 180d Business Solution Plus. Year: 2019
The latest generation is MBUX NTG 8 which is found in the CLE and I believe the new E-Class (hopefully get to film that soon!) The latest one in a B-Class is found in it’s facelift MBUX NTG 7 which has a few upgrades and improvements: th-cam.com/video/RKSWP0M0OLE/w-d-xo.html I believe Mercedes are even working on something called MB.OS for future cars too!

I'm afraid that this video is not entirely accurate. There is a hybrid system between NTG6 and 7. My 2024 GLE450 has the NTG6 physical layout, but with wireless CarPlay and the same instrument cluster and steering wheel that you described for the NTG7. I am in the US.

Yeah that’s the facelift, since all of the facelifts have come out they all have different generations of MBUX. The generation of MBUX defines all of the things in this video. This is for the UK though, unsure if it’s different in other countries.
I guess the only thing that is slightly different is that since I made this, some models of Mercedes still have widescreens whereas some have vertical screens.
You can usually tell the difference between the generations by the voice assistant animation.
Waves are MBUX generation one (NTG 6)
Sparkles are MBUX generation two (NTG 7 or newer 🤓)

Thought it would be worth mentioning that you can not determine if a car has NTG6 or NTG7, only by looking at the style of screens. It’s a nice rule of thumb, but a lot of the newer facelifts has the ‘old’ widescreen display, but the new NTG7 - like the new A-class FL 👍🏼
The by far fastest and easiest way to determine if a car has NTG6 or NTG7 is to check the instrumentcluster customization 👍🏼

Hey Adrian, it’s not that it’s disabled it’s just not installed. It sadly will never be allowed unless the United Nations change the regulation.
I believe cars need to have something like a hands on/hands off sensor to have such technologies

No sadly new generations of MBUX are new systems as in new cars and new hardware etc. it’s unfortunately not a software update.
It has new hardware like graphics cards, processors, displays, wireless CarPlay capabilities etc

True…the B250e but that wasn’t completely designed by Mercedes. It had tech taken from Tesla (apparently). Mercedes only made that for a short while and removed it from their line up.
Pretty sure they might have made one years ago before that too

Hi Nick. I am a little confused. I picked up my new A class 180 premium plus last Friday. I have just watched your video. And according to the info I have the NTG 6 with the 10.5 screen across the dash. But my Apple play fires up on the screen as soon as I get in the car, with the phone still in my pocket. Also I am able the start up the 360 cameras and spin the car around with indicators etc. I can also play all my videos from my usb c port. How can I tell if I have the NTG6 OR 7.
If you don’t have a touchpad in the middle of the car then you’ll have the facelift 🤓
Plus Wireless CarPlay is a new feature too same as my car

Hey Michael, that’s right. C-Class’s and GLC’s have a slightly different multimedia system on their instrument clusters. It should be NTG 5.5 as they don’t have a full widescreen across the dashboard, they have spectate screens so only the right dial can be changed along with the centre dial.

Hi Nick…Great videos, helped big time with the Mercedes cars. I have recently picked up a new A35. It still has the MBUX NTG6. I have a quick question about Navigation and POI’s. Its been suggested by another TH-cam video by someone else that you can load Speed Camera data using the Personal POI option. But on my car the Personal POI option is greyed out. Does that mean it isnt available on the A35 or does some option need to be enabled to open up the personal POIs? I can find no information on the Marcedes documentation

Hi Nick. Do you know if NTG 7 has a different map version number to NTG 6. I have just traded up to the facelift model with NTG 7 and it says I have the latest version map which is 2024 (v18.0). Yet the A Class I have just traded had NTG 6 and the map version was 2024 (21.0). Doesn't seem logical to me. What version do you have on your Facelift model?

Was complete crap then.
I was informed by Mercedes that NTG 6 was available in two screen sizes and due to coding on the system, they had to utilise the 7” version to make it compatible with the 10.25” version too.
The newer version NTG 7 although has bigger screens, Apple CarPlay and it’s display size is still the same as the base version. The MBUX Hyperscreen won’t have CarPlay any larger than the S-Class portrait screen.
Some NTG 6 cars have the all-touch-pad steering wheel. I'm in the US, but I believe all current year E-classes have NTG 6 and the newer wheel. It's awful btw. Give us all back rollers and real buttons.
This is correct, I have the NTG 7 C Class, and my friend has the NTG 6 E Class, our steering wheels are the same.

I do miss the NTG6 customisation such as bring able to change what showed in the dials for the driver. Big fail by merc. Why would they make it worse
When they first introduced it, I asked them and it was to make it simpler to use. According to statistics, barely anyone changed the screens so they made it easier with pre sets.
I did like the fact you could change everything though! That was cool!

I have a 2024 GLE 450 on order and although it doesn't have a portrait display and does have a mousepad in the center, it does have features that you associate with NTG 7 only. For example it does have wireless iCarPlay. So I'm wondering if it still is NTG 6 but maybe with updated features or if it is actually NTG 7 for the widescreen format? Hopefully you can take a look and give us a video on that!

NTG6 is sucks, Apple car play with tiny screen ? How previous model is better than new one. No way ! Work hard Mercedes engineers driving BMW series. I believe Chinese money ruins "Mercedes".
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before.
The reason is because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything.
So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen.
NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!

BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Toyota, Honda and so on, these companies do not have this problem. I believe most Car manufactures never support cropped screen.
I am living in Korea, and people still have not understood this issue still happened, moreover if you just type out and search in google then you will find this is also issue in the US, the UK.
I want to point out that this issue happened since 2019 (almost 4~5 years). But Mercedes-Benz is turning a blind eye to this, even though owners of the NTG 6 system are experiencing inconvenience.
Well, to put this simply, as 'customers', if we do not like this then, we can just change our minds to choose another brand (BMW, AUDI and so on). Because we are living in 'Market Economy'.
This issue is just about owners having old series model and may be nothing for Mercedes, but if Mercedes is a luxury brand, I think they should take care of even a small problem for our loyal customers. Small things make a big difference.
As owner of Mercedes E-Class, I hope Mercedes officials will be aware of this issue.

The car is: Mercedes-Benz B-Class 180d Business Solution Plus. Year: 2019
The latest generation is MBUX NTG 8 which is found in the CLE and I believe the new E-Class (hopefully get to film that soon!)
