Agreed. I add a light coat of B-7000 then reheat the back at 100 degrees C for one minute (after it's assembled), then apply pressure around the adhesive seals. ALWAYS heat your adhesive after a repair to help get better contact/seal. I don't advertise water-resistance after a repair, but I've NEVER had a phone come back for water damage. It takes an additional 3 minutes in total, and it's the right thing to do for your customers.
Ever put a phone back together for a video for it to not boot back up? Just curious lol Got a doner phone I'll be using for back glass and charging port. Mine port has been busted for months, glad these support wireless charging but hate the glass backings.
I'm having to perform this fix soon as my phone is from a different region and Samsung won't fix it. You mention using adhesive at the end, does this mean applying new adhesive or will what's already on the case work OK?
@www.SecretlySeductive.net unsuccessfully. I couldn't get the back off despite buying a heat plate. Tried for about an hour and gave up. Will try again one day as I can't use my VR Headset or Dex without my USB port working.
It can be done without removing the main board, but it's a pain to get the main board disconnected/reconnected to the charging board. The MB is only one additional screw and a couple of quick clips.
I need to do this. I also should replace the battery while I'm at it. My USB port actually works but it gives me the moisture error constantly and I have to bypass it using the method of connecting a charger while booting up. I charge it with a wireless charger most of the time, but there are some cases where that's not doable. The fact that it still works for transferring files, USB tethering, and all that is the only reason I haven't been on this sooner. But it's quite annoying to get that error constantly, not to mention the fact that fast charging simply doesn't work anymore at all over USB, which sucks because it used to charge so fast that way. I can use wireless fast charging, however that has never been as fast as fast USB charging. I'm not sure what happened to the port because this issue just sort of cropped up one day and never went away. I still use the Note 8 as my daily driver and probably will be for a long while, since Android 9 is still very well supported and the Note 8 is quite powerful even by today's standards. I'm a bit nervous to tear it apart because if I were to damage it, I wouldn't have a phone to use. I remember tearing apart my Galaxy S2 back in the day and how great it was that it used tabs and screws. These days the phones are much more elegant with sandwiched gorilla glass, but we pay for that when we want to fix something ourselves and have to deal with all the adhesive and thin cables.
did this exactly, and it works. getting the back plate was an unbelievable pain in the ass. anyway the main speaker doesnt work after this so what do i do? bluetooth and regular headphones are fine
I used your guide for replacing the note 8 battery after my phone completely gave out, on the day the phone died it was getting super hot while charging. The old battery was puffed up, i replaced it whit a new battery and it worked, so my question is should i also replace the charging port. It charges fine while the phone is on but when its off it has the moisture warning which is one problem i had prior to my phone dying.
Hey thanks for the video, i did everything in the video and managed to replace the port. It turns on and everything, but as soon as i plug in the charger it starts to flip out and shuts off immediately. The screen starts to flip out and flickers off, and powers off. When its turned off, i try to plug it in again and this wARNING with a temperature icon saying its too hot and wont charge.
And it doesn't load? Make sure that you insert the charging port with the same designation as the one you removed. For example: N950U ONLY replace with N950U. N950F is for Europe and Australia and will not work properly with the American model
The phone just came out, I don't know who would need to change the charging port this soon. Screen? yes but charging ports usually last for a long time. A VERY LONG TIME!
Randy Anderson Samsung refused mine because I bought the 256gb model and that's not sold in the UK. Wouldn't even fix it if I paid them. Yours should be under warranty?
SteveDFM hi mate have you managed to fix your charging port i also did the same bought an 256gb deep blue see of an website the charging port had burnt-out for some reason while it was on charge my send it back or repair not sure yet qhat did you do?
@www.Quicksex.eu Absolutely disagree. If you want some semblance of water-resistance, you need to add a small amount of additional adhesive and reheat & apply pressure to the adhesive after reassembly. That heat helps make sure the adhesive gets good spread and contact.
Thanks. I've changed my charging port twice. I always break the glass backs so get a replacement off amazon for $10. For some reason the charging ports on these seem to loosen up quick. Maybe it is the fact that when I wake up I sometimes yank the cord out by accident and it warps the charging port
hi from Chile, I have been trouble with the fast charge, it doesn't appeared once I plug in, with neither samsung original cable or other cable. I bought about a month ago the samsung 5110 battery , and worst of all TODAY I try to plug in the cable in the usb port and started going out burnin"smoke", I took immediately out, but now hesitate to charge again, only wireless, without appearing fast charge, DOES THE 256 GIGA DEEP BLUE (MINE), HAVE THE SAME CHARGIN PORT LIKE THE OTHER RIGHT? CAUSE a guy told that samsung didn't want to replace it..... man samsung its a shit of a company. and I don have idea who else could repair
@@SergTech If you ever read any tech blogs or mags you will find out that ESD does not often immediately make the components fail. Oils from your fingers should also not get onto the components. You should see the way these things are assembled, it is like they are doing surgery it is so clean.
So you've been doing this for years and yet you don't use any of the tools available? They're pretty cheap. I'd rather use the plastic tool (spudger) rather than a razor blade and a business card. With the ribbon wire connections so close to the edge you, and the people who listen to you, risk completely screwing their phone up.
Thanks for your video! With your help, I just restored my 2-year old Note 8. Hopefully I'll get another 2 years out of it.
Thanks mate, followed your instructions and all fixed now.
I was wondering if after change the part the feature "Samsung Dex" will still work?
Thank you for your useful video, it has helped me a lot into giving a 3rd life to my phone !
Do you know if this helps fix the stupid "Moisture detection" warning ppl have been getting?
Same problem
I had the same issue and replaced port. I sure as hell didn't do it myself though. Like new now.
About to replace for the same reason and slow charging in a few minutes wish me luck!
@@kg4boj How'd it go? I am thinking of ordering the part, plus some tools and (courageously) diving in but I am a bit weary. 🙂
Somehow I don't think that IP68 rating is going to hold up very well afterwards...

Why didn't you cover the camera lens ?🙄
Yeah. I'm just gonna go buy another phone.
My charging port burned So i use wireless charging
Which did you go for? I believe, we can use max 18 watts which isn't too bad at all.
Thanks bro for the video. God bless you
What size Phillips screwdriver
You're doing a good job but I hope the camera is on focus while you were doing it.
can i put the board charging n950f in the motherboard N950u

Unless I missed something, it doesnt look like the whole MB needs to be removed to replace the USB-C port.

won't ESD destroy the boards? rather that use your hand you could use a plastic tool.
The reality is that I have been repairing phones for over 10 years and touching phone parts with my hands has never damaged a board.
