Finally someone else who gets it! I’ve always liked the look of these. Yes the silver plastic centre console looks naff, but the rest of the car looks great. Nice colour too. I know it’s fashionable to slate these, so glad to see some appreciation for a change 👍
Yeah, I've always preferred them to the slk of the same era
The SLK is an awesome car. That's why this being an SLK with a different shell on it, is too.
Interior is definitely cheaper though. The Merc is nicer inside.
As a note to anyone in the future - you can have a lot of hydraulic/oil pipes fixed by taking them to a place that fabricates hydraulic hoses. They will replace the leaking section with a correctly crimped hose designed for this application and it can be much, much cheaper than the OEM part...... Just got to make sure it will fit before you go this route, hoses are a bit larger. And never, ever do this on brake lines.....
Your quite right. Mend a hose and Pirtek for example.
I got 4 hoses done for a JCB for £60 that way, JCB wanted hundreds per hose.
Really useful tip👍
Another vote for Pirtek
Oh good grief - I’m looking for something different and Matt comes up with this …. And there’s one at a local dealers at a decent price and the mot history looks good, do I dare go look at it 😮😊
Matt, when you get to the pearly gates and confess your massive overspends you'll be greeted with a warm embrace and warmly welcomed. I love your passion for the vehicles.
i was waiting for the famous i've massively overspent you never let me down
I like the crossfire, and that colour was bright so you wouldn't miss it in a car park. The only thing that I wouldn't like is the plastic on the interior, but the metal finish on the dash looks nice. Great video and content
You raise the bar for all other used car dealers, another cracking video too !
This is not a car channel, it's a comedy channel! I love your videos Matt, always give me a good laugh. The cars are cool too. Cheers!
I appreciate that!
Oh Matt, a 19 year-old Chrysler? This video instantly went from _will_ Matt end up massively overspending to _how_ much will Matt massively overspend. 🙂
Cracking video Matt, underrated motor. Quirky looks are refreshing, easy to find in the supermarket car park too !
Couldn't agree more!
"underated motor" don't know what you drive but the number sold gives you a clue.. handled and drove like a dog or just a very old mercedes
Hi your probably right. PS a mint gen 7 Celica owned it for 7 years@@robertwhitaker3779
Great video Matt, and totally agree with you. Bought one brand new on impulse in 2006 and used it as a company car for 3 years. Spent many miles going between Essex and Shipley on business. Loved every moment of owning it, had the 6 speed manual too. Good fun in the snow too!
This car had "IMOS" written all over it Matt.
Thanks for sharing.
(I've Massively Over Spent) Hope you like the new acronym.
Another great video again Matt, love the crossfire, its a car that doesn't look much but is brilliant. Nice colour too
Definitely got a thumbs up I love your enthusiasm for loosing money. It came as no surprise that you over spent what did surprise me was it was by such a small amount! I’m sure you’ll do even better with your next project 👍 keep up the good work
I’ve always liked the Crossfire and still have a soft spot for them. They were never a common car on the road so it made them quite exclusive. Shame about the overspend but at twenty years old…..
Congratulations on 101M views, you've done a wonderful job of this channel and it makes my day to see your upload!
Thank you very much!
Keep the videos coming, love them.
I've got a huge soft spot for the Crossfire, and I recognised the wheels from the thumbnail so got it on the first clue (Matt isn't the only car nerd here!). I prefer the convertible, think it suits the short rear better than the coupe. It's the long, well-styled bonnet and that meaty V6 that always did it for me. That red is definitely the best colour.
I agree. I've always thought they were cool
2 things Matt didn't forget was new number plates and of course the plug for car vertical which it seems they seem to sponsor virtually every car dealer, they could probably lower their rates if they stopped sponsorship, because let's face it we are aware of CV now.
I did one report with CV and it was poor. I ended up complaining and they modified the report. Meagre information for the cost.
@@JohnHoganN8use vcheck, £10 best one out of
@@JohnHoganN8I did one report with them too which showed up an extra owner that the selling car dealer didn’t mention so I suppose it was worth it. Generally though it didn’t tell me much at all.
Nice Matt! Always wanted one too, that's a bargain😮👌 nice to have a car with some styling and quite a rare sight on the road! Love it
Great video matt I love that crossfire that colour really sets it off worth every penny your asking hope you get a decent trade in against it where you can recoup a bit of your loss well done matt 👍
Very good video as usually.
Love it. Keep this one Matt!
The Crossfire has always had the "collectible" handle on it and has a dedicated following. I think I'd advertise it for at least what you have into it and wait for that right person to show up. I always like them until I sat in one and found it lacking in headroom for me (tall).
Always look forward to a Wednesday evening. Thanks as always Matt.
My pleasure!
My wife had a manual coupe in black, plus points as you said but definitely worth joining the crossfire forum for maintenance (eg mystery no start soldering fix, water in the boot central locking, sagging headliner, ignition not turning etc) and the Chrysler breakers in Cradley Heath for spares.
Your engine cover as a snapped off front corner BTW 😲
WOW!!! - That is Blaze Red - i spent nearly 2yrs selling Chrysler/Jeep in 2003-2005 and drove so many Crossfires, loved them I'm 6ft 8 so coupe was a challenge! Had numerous demonstrators I took home - best was an Aero blue convertible - gorgeous!
That looks beautiful Matt
Well done, Matt. As always 🤗
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved it since I first saw one real cool and are now cheap if your not worried about a badge great fun
Lovely looking car Matt , nice and cheap
I was Jonathan Ross’s postman for a while and he had one of these! Same colour and I thought it was very cool. I didn’t know about the Mercedes connection and it looked quite plasticky inside but I like the shape (and noise) not a great purchase from your point of view though Matt😉 but certainly a great watch. Thanks for your work. I don’t know how you do three a week 😳 but I’m glad you do 😀👍🏻
I remember hearing him tell Richard Hammond about his Crossfire many years ago
@@HighPeakAutos he has a eclectic taste in cars 😂 Toyota previa and a hearse at one stage 🤷🏻♂️ but hey it’s all very subjective and so it should be 👍🏻
I've not seen a Crossfire on the roads for years now. That's a real shame that it cost so much to fix the issues, Matt. Nevermind eh, on to the next one. Great content as always 👌
Great video Matt, always liked these & would love to have one but we have a 2year old grandson to carry around so thats that!!
Always love the design of these.
Knew immediately once you said part German/part American - either SLK or Crossfire 😅
Same. I immediately thought of it.
Its a very interesting car that i would buy my dad for the weekends.
Great video and work as always Matt, great overspend on this one! :D
Thanks! 👍
So happy to see a Crossfire in one of your videos. I love these cars because they are so rare and special. I think the design is unique. I own a Crossfire Roadster in grey metallic with an automatic transmission. The perfect combo. I hope I can keep it on the road for many more years.
Hi Matt busy lad thought you got it spot on with that car at first good swap . What a shock when you added all those bits up onwards and upwards .
I have massively over enjoyed watching this, it's the finished article now, someone will have a lot of enjoyment out of this
She heard your intro music & said "no you're not changing your car" 🤣
😂😂
I think the back looks great. Reminds me of the vehicles in the supermarionation progs from the 60s.
awesome video
the camera view from the bonnet (as well as the colour) reminded me of starsky and hutch
Oh Matt, why am i not surprised with your favourite 'ive massively overspent' 🤦♂️. Your vlogs are so informative and entertaining, you really are one of the good guys and a credit to your industry, thankyou
Every time I watch a high peak video of a car I don’t like, by the end of it matt has me looking at classifieds ffs ..😂
Good stuff as always mate
My favourite Matt-Isims
“ I’ve massively overspent”
“I think I have a problem”
An interesting limited edition available in NZ is the SRT-6 with the supercharged engine coupe or convertible. I've never seen a manual one though. They're about three times the cost of your one
Great video of a much underatted car IMHO.
We have a black auto on a 53 plate. Not quite done 50000 miles.
We are the second owners and love the car to bits.
Took it down on a road trip as far as Spa a couple of summers sgo and it never missed a beat.
I've always liked these. Liked all the oddball Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth oddballs lol. The Chrysler Atlantic was gorgeous.
Nice looking car, underated!
An old boss of mine had one of those from new. Quirky car and I like them. Love the colour too. Auto is my preference as well.
Thanks matt❤
Good vid Matt....Never been a Crossfire fan I'll admit, although that engine in a smallish car should be great fun....It's a pity the Yanks had a hand in the rest of it! 😁Did like the wheels and the colour though, hope you can get shut soon! 👍👍
You forgot the 6 quid in the dash compartment - and the 6p in the centre console! Every cloud..... ;) Good vid as usual :D
Always liked the look of the crossfire
You don't disappoint 😂
Built by Karmann in Germany. This was an R170 SLK with a Karmann body, and as everyone has said you could get it with a standard 3.2 or the supercharged 3.2 which was also used in AMG cars. Daimler and Chrysler were the same company at the time.
I had an auto one of these years ago in that light blue/grey that many came in. Sounded great, was a decent car
This channel is acc too good man the man is hilarious aswell 🐐
Thanks
Hi Matt, your bank manager must really love you, as for the Geryank, the colour looks a lot like Volvo Fusion red, best of look with that one !.
Show us round the fridge as well Matt
Matty l loved it too. The back end to me is reminiscent of an Etype coupe (to me) the front still looks like it is made with LEGO'S but that's brand familiarity apt. Anyway is a good day when lve Hipeaked. Cheers ❤
A good swap. At least it has some shape compared to the old sow you swapped it for. Happy Xmas :o)
Repositioning of flexi brake hose could be because it was previously fitted in such a way that it may kink and stop fluid flow under full lock of steering wheel. I failed test for this before.
Always liked this collaboration under the Chrysler badge.
Mate great video
Thanks!
Blaze Red. Had one of the first in the country in 2003. Auto woth 2 tone grey interior. It had its faults but the engine was sound and i got a lot of attention.
I did not expect that 😂 I do miss it for how it looks but I don’t miss it for its low MPG and tax
Recognised it immediately by the wheels in the thumbnail.
I just love this channel and the guys style, presentation, expertise and approach…however his purchase and enthusiasm for this Chrysler stopped me in my tracks, this is a joke of car and one I would only look at to laugh at - curious!
Hi Matt, Great video as usual. I've always thought that American cars handle like outraged bananas. Was this the same or did it have a European feel? I would have owned one just to be different back in the day. Like the look and the colour of your car. Good luck with the sale.
I like them too Matt.
Absolutely gorgeous, my neighbor had one of these new in 2006(?) In a beautiful ice light blue it was a 3.2 V6 limited with a brash exhaust we thought it was always really stunning , so underrated
I agree. I love anything thats a little rare and unusual. Also, this is something of an underdog
Massively underrated car. That m112 engine was 👌
We usually get a reg off a SLK with same m112 engine and buy the bits from MB. Sourcing anything from Chrysler is a nightmare.
I can't really explain why, but I absolutely, head over heals, love these things deeply and passionately. Maybe it's the love of an underdog thing, but there's just something about them. They're absolutely brilliant. And at a cars and coffee event, nobody else will have one, which I really like too. If I had the space, and if it was an automatic (which is essential unfortunately), I'd be heading towards High Peak Autos with 4 of my grands right this very minute. It's one of those cars I just have to have one day.
Kia EV9 to this gorgeous Crossfire - from the ridiculous to the sublime. I'd be tempted to hang on to that Chrysler for a while - lovely car.
Is it weird if I recognized this car from the thumbnail? Feels wrong
Not at all. I also saw it then thought…”Nooooo way”.
To be honest, it doesn’t look like anything else.
I haven't watched the video yet, I'm guessing it's a jaguar of some kind maybe a S type in sporty trim so bigger wheels
@@bayandamsweli2005 Very true. They're just rare
The alloys are distinct
Beautiful car 😍
I would have thought you could have charged a premium for it being a manual, and that colour. Curious why you would have preferred it in an auto? Thanks for making a video on this car, it gave me a perspective of this car I would not otherwise been able to appreciate. I look forward to your next drive, in whatever that may be. Good stuff.
The autos are much more desirable in these. They aren't drivers cars and are primarily bought by older people
My local garage had one of these for sale 14 years ago - steel grey, manual, looked the part with the rear "like a dog having a dump."
The number of men, including me, in their mid fifties drooling over this vehicle - the garage thought of selling tickets just to look.
It did sell to a lady estate agent.
Too old for this now, but for £4k, a cracking car.
These are great little cars. ❤
I've owned mine since new in 04. Super reliable, fun to drive. Clarkson is a Jackass.
FYI, it uses all Mercedes R170 parts. I have no issues getting mechanical parts. People are overly harsh on these cars for no reason.
Hi Matt, I still think you did the right thing, look see how many subbies you have lol. You have to factor that in, or not lol. You rock, sad I am in Canada or I would buy my cars from you. Respect.😁
I had a manual Crossfire coupe for a couple of years and rather enjoyed it. Gearbox is a bit notchy and rear visibility is dreadul (I fitted parking sensors) but performance and handling were both strong points. Mine was generally reliable but I had a steering problem which required replacing the steering box. The first quote for this was over €4000, I ended up sourcing one in the US, but it was still €1500 with shipping & Customs duties (ouch!). I've had three other older Mercedes and major parts can be very dear.
Round our way they were known either as the Mid-life Chrysler, or the Chrysler Misfire. And yes, they do hunch down like a dog parking its breakfast. But, I'm joining you on the Nerd Naughty Step as I knew it was a Misfire from the design of wheel in the video thumbnail ... Ho hum. Better luck with the next few purchases, but keep the vdeos coming, the content is gold. 👍
Funny I knew the car from its wheel. Sat in one at an auto show when it came out. Definitely a comfortable driving position. Styling is a bit love/hate with most leaning towards hate. Wish they revised it one more generation, it might have been more appealing with a face lift.
I think you could get a 330 hp srt version of that so there were 2 engine choices but I could be wrong ?
yep for 10x the price
Crossfire action from the shapely bonnet creases. So distinctive. The faux metal plastic trim does hold up !!!!!!! I don’t mind them. Usually they’re pretty tatty. Motor trade used to dislike them. Back ten years ago. Suspect a nice one sell well now.
Had an 06 drop head version. Great car.
Never a lover of Chrysler, but this one is, well, sporty, it looks good 👌
I like the Crossfire Matt. This one looks a great buy now so one lucky new owner soon. We know you're selling at a loss but you didn't take into consideration that £5.16p which you found! Sorted! 😉💰🤣
I toyed with the idea of getting one of these after i sold my mx5 nc but heard the drive is a bit numb. Probably more suitable as a GT car.
Matt... I'm with you on most things! I own L322 and E46 BUT... Theres a reason they don't make cars like that anymore!
What a stunning car 🚘
They were very underrated cars , I liked them. And for a little money you can get a decent one ., great shape as well ..
It’s a pretty unmistakable design. Like a PT Cruiser, a throwback to classic American motoring, but good looking. Cool car, especially with the staggered wheels.
Personally I think the best thing about the car is the £5 you found. That's enough for a couple of drinks at Spoons to drown your sorrows and enough change left over for a bag for life to put over your head while you drive it. 😂 You love it though and I also get excited about what most consider absolute tat. I love old Peugeot D Turbos and sometimes can't contain my excitment! Enjoy 😊 any car better than public transport!
Soon as you said it was 20 years old..it hurt. Haha still looks good to the day. Always been looking at them but never took the plunge.
That was a result! A few quid left in it. Best I ever got was a an electric tyre pump ( that didn't work ).
The condition is pristine. It's a looker, however I don't get the washboard style bonnet.
I think that's aged really well...and that's the first manual one I've seen, which somehow makes it more interesting....whereas in a Merc I'd always rather have auto. Can't explain that really. Yh, I like it.
I'd rather have an Auto to be honest but the manual is rare and quite good fun
Always liked the crossfire when are you going to buy a Chrysler PT cruiser ?😂
You would never guess this car was twenty years old. Love the back end .
