david smith he always finishes everything but he also always takes his time and does things properly, he isn’t building any of these for the viewers. His ls 300zx I watched the first video and waited every week for the next, getting to see it in person and meet jimmy makes you realize the love he puts into these cars.
Jimmy love from Utah! we just had and earth quake and my cars hood and roof got crushed from things falling in the garage (its a BMW e30). Covid 19 also means I can't go out as much so thanks for making my day a bit better!
Nothing wrong with pulling the tank, make sure it’s far away and plugged air right. Liquid fuel doesn’t burn, vapour does, I leave the tank in but I fill the tank full to the top (no room for vapour) and plug the fill and vent. Looking forward to more content!
I’ve highlighted the four rear subframe mounting locations where it attaches to the chassis. These four points can transmit a lot of force to the chassis and cause cracks to develop that require extensive work to properly repair. Here are some examples of the damage that can occur in a BMW E36 chassis without reinforcement: BMW E36 Rear Chassis/Subframe Reinforcement Kit $88.78 www.driftshop.com/bmw-e36-rear-chassis-reinforcement-kit.html
I appreciate how easy going the music is in the vids. Other automotive you tubers put like NO effort into the tracks it’s terrible. Thanks for the good content jimbo
I literally just put condor speed shop reinforcing plates in my e36 today. Didnt pull gas tank , i put a fire blanket on it , sent it. But to each is own. Happy quarantine.
My E46 had a crazy crack and big hole in my chassi, took forever to fix, i was only surpose to change the rear bushings on my car and noticed it when i droped my subframe. that hurt my wallet but my heart even more.. Good thing you noticed it early
Phil from Drift Works had his V10 powered E46 crack the chassis even after it had re-enforcement plates installed. They ended up getting a brace that ties the front points to the shock towers.
You’re taking a whole bunch of weight off the back of the e36 on the lift, maybe through some heavy stuff in to help prevent it doing a front flip. Good work though boys!
Good point upvote this. When I took my rear end out of my car on jack stands I could literally lift the back end up and make it do an endo. Granted it had no interior at the time but still it's def 80% front heavy atm.
It will anyway because its stored inside and not driven much in rain or snow. I have been spraying cavity wax in my cars for a few years and none have gotten any rustier
don't feel too bad about that I just bought an e36 from a dealership and they told me that had already reinforced the subframe mounts. When I got got home with it I realized there was a massive whole on the middle passenger mounting point.
The black wire coming out of the ecu... you should put a rubber hose around it so it doesn’t chafe on the ecu’s metal case it looks really loose in the hole
Hey jimmy, maybe you will see this, maybe you wont. but im the one with the matching car. i got it running! and thanks to this video i trimmed up the fuel ms and its gold.
This is so sick watching boosting my car rn, just pulled the head today. Broke the tip of the timing chain guide(about an inch) some people said I don’t gotta fix it but might aswell since oil on getting dropped too
When I was detailing cars we used to get cars from North Dakota and they would have a very very fine dust on them that was like concrete and would not come off
I have a 92 318is that makes all of 100hp or so and when I went to change out subframe bushings I found that even two of my rear subframe mounts had completely torn out
The factory mounts break from hard shifting or clutch kicking moreso than actual power. The most stress the subframe goes through is when the clutch is dumped and you feel that jerk. Also torn or worn bushings allow it to hammer on the mount more than it should which starts a crack.
Is that issue with the chassis cracking the same issue that E46s have in the rear? I think Brian might have had to deal with it if I remember correctly
NOTE : The vacuum port near the throttle body is not the ideal port for your ECU MAP line as its not representative of the manifold pressure , T into the FPR line which is the best place to measure manifold pressure in the M50 manifold.
Legitimately EVERY E36 chassis will have issues with those exact two subframe mounts, I’ve had to reinforce every single one I’ve ever owned. It’s worth it in the end though, make sure to swap in poly bushings aswell, will help solidify the rear end a lot
The subframe issue is common to E36 and E46, maybe Brian need some reinforcemente plates too. I`m from Spain and we are about 4-5 days of quarantine, And personally I am waiting videos ...... XD
Goddamn it. I completely forgot about all that bullshit reinforcement you need to do to a 3 series. I was just going to buy one I found on CL to start a quick 1J swap. Never mind. Back on the hunt for a decent S-chassis I guess.
Now that everyone is under a quarantine, you have to finish at least 1 car.
MoistSnek that would be a dream
If the parts get to the man
Bryan Bento just snap the fingers and its done
when he stuck his finger in the turbo my heart stopped.
Lol same
Same here, just had a hearth attack

I read this and was waiting for it and I still flinched when he did it 😁
Don’t add a restrictor to a precision turbo unless it’s ball bearing
I don't get why u still have less than 300k subs your seriously the best automotive youtuber

New Zealand technology built from a small shop here in Christchurch. Very cool to see how they have grown over the years.
Finally something starts in the garage.

Yeah I'm glad you are welding the reinforcement plates on the car

ZachicusMaximus It especially came to mind when Jimmy mentioned removing the fuel tank. I kinda had a heart attack thinking about it lol
You should bed line the underbody of it when your all done so it stays rust free forever 👌🏻
It will anyway because its stored inside and not driven much in rain or snow. I have been spraying cavity wax in my cars for a few years and none have gotten any rustier
Glad to see ya in good spirits! Hope the e36 comes together quick & the e30 fixes up nice for you ❤️❤️❤️
Stiff knotted wire wheel on angle grinder took the paint and sealer off my e46 super easy for welding in the reinforcement pieces.
Might want to think about spot-welding thinner sheet metal around those subframe mounts. Those reinforcement plats are only good to the edges.
don't feel too bad about that I just bought an e36 from a dealership and they told me that had already reinforced the subframe mounts. When I got got home with it I realized there was a massive whole on the middle passenger mounting point.
Make sure to put hose clamps on the radiator hoses
Shout out to you guys providing content during this crazy time. Keeping your subs sane lol.
use Eastwood rubberized encapsulation undercoating...
Second this
The black wire coming out of the ecu... you should put a rubber hose around it so it doesn’t chafe on the ecu’s metal case it looks really loose in the hole

Just a quick tip you could have disconnected the opposition side of the handbrake cable and left all ur brake parts on still
This is so sick watching boosting my car rn, just pulled the head today. Broke the tip of the timing chain guide(about an inch) some people said I don’t gotta fix it but might aswell since oil on getting dropped too
You could do this with some raised mesh ramps outside that loading door so u can roll cars out and jet wash them outside
Have a great night and don't get sick. Perfect outro
When I was detailing cars we used to get cars from North Dakota and they would have a very very fine dust on them that was like concrete and would not come off
Hey dont forget to weld up the cracks that are there
That fab experience from the Nissonda gonna come in handy 😅
You got a good crew!
I'm sure others have commented this but unless that precision turbo is ball bearing then *100% DO NOT* add an oil restrictor.
Was the last owner something to do with sand blasting?have worked in boat yards where everything get covered in black sand
All I want is to see yours, Adam’s, and albertos e36s all together

Loving the vids bro keep it up! Could you please make a video about tuning and how you learnt to tune cars 🙏🏾
I think it would be funny to take someone like Jimmy mudding, he would freak out about how dirty the truck gets
@10:30 that is like every car in australia. No rust, just dust

Why buy aftermarket reinforcement plates when the OEM ones fit perfectly and contour to the body unlike the flat plates?
