I am from Bulgaria and I am an astronomer, I work in a planetarium. I have never been a ballerina and I am almost 60 years old. Every morning I listen to your videos. I don't look what movements you show. I just listen to the music and do gymnastics, and jump, and run and dance for 40 minutes. It helps me so much and gives me energy for the whole day. Thank you very, very much!!!
Hello Eva, I would love to get to know you and encourage each other. Please , if you have a moment, be so kind as to look at my profile and see if you might like to connect with a fellow athlete and intellect. m.facebook.com/AiChiChikara
This class has taught me, or reminded me, of two things - my short term memory is lousy; and in all these four decades of taking ballet classes, I've been relying too much on the dancer in front of me. Great idea to only to demonstrate on one side, and then make us work to remember the left!
Me too! I'm 67 and it is shocking how poor is my recall! When I was 19 it was so obvious. Left side - help! Actually it must be as good for my sad old brain as my sad old body :)
Me too! It’s a very long since I did class and my brain was struggling, not to meant my body. But this is such a good way to get us to properly focus and not just follow!
I know it's crazy that we're all doing these ballet classes around the world. I live by Broadway in NYC & I can also see out my window 45 stories high other dancers across the way who workout in their own apartments
I can't go to ballet school because I don't have enough money, but I'm enjoying home lessons with this :-) Thank you I appriciate it I love ballet 🩰♡ from Japan
I used to go to ballet classes when I was younger. I'm from a small town, in a country with a lot of difficulties. When I was 11, they stopped teaching ballet at my town and I had to give up on something that I really loved. After a lot of years, I'm still living there, and the other day when I was listening to a Tchaikovsky's piece I had an epiphany, "what if I search for some free class online? ". I'm really glad I founded this, and also I'm really thankful to you and all the team behind these videos. I'm just doing it for fun, but being able to practise something I love after so many years, makes me feel so good that I almost cry every time I think about it, thanks! 💛
I rewind for some exercises but most classes don't have a teacher showing the exercises at all and you just have to copy the person in front of you so it's a good habit to just learn to learn combinations.
Thank you, folks! I've never done ballet in my life, I'm 66 years old, and somehow I decided I wanted to try it. Good thing no one's watching me, trying to point my toes in my living room! Great fun.
it’s 2022 and we’re out of quarantine and i am so thankful for these online classes. i am a college student who loved dance in hs so this is giving me an outlet. so thank you❤️

Absolutely. It irks me to no end to see some top flight ballet dancers giving class online, and then abruptly cutting off the music (usually prerecorded), just because the exercise they put together is over. Sort of like in the old days, abruptly pulling the needle off a rotating record. Those of us of a certain age will remember what a grating sound that makes.
I'm a pediatrician down in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ballet has always been a source of energy and happiness to balance all the bad stuff I have to deal with at the hospital. Thank you so much for posting this videos online when I'm needing them the most!
Just found this! So many thanks to the Dutch National Ballet, for providing these classes online for free! Feel so privileged, having Ernst Meisner and Rex, giving us “non-company” members training of the highest caliber. In the real world this would be 100% impossible for 98% of us. As a 63y/o travel nurse, and former ballroom competitor, working in stormy south Texas, the likelihood of ever dancing again feels impossible. But now I feel encouraged, and following your classes, even if I can barely do them, has given me new hope and energy!! May God bless you for your generosity , and keep you all safe during these trying times💖
Thank you, again!!!!!I make again and again this lessons,I love when you say :"Excelent, guys!" I got emotional. I even shed a few tears. I love ballet. I admire the dancers who dedicate their whole life for this wonderful and demanding talent.🦋🦋🦋🦋
Have finally found someone that can make me start ballet, and have since become addicted - because there is music and soul in this class… Tearfully thankful.
Tomorrow is the last day of 2024 - I can’t believe this was 4 years ago. I just found these today, while looking to pick up on some ballet classes at age 42 ❤
My daughter, who is 8 months pregnant, is doing these exercises with you. And now I, at 72 years, and several other oldish ladies are doing your ballet exercises. My last class was when I was 33, and I still love ballet barre. The pianist is excellent!
@@Coco-ww2hw no you don’t. If you want to do it as a hobby, ballet is mostly about movement and understanding of your body. The tights and leotard help to elongate the legs visually (that’s also why the shoes are mostly in ballet pink). The clothes are tight so that there isn’t much resistance. Just put on what ever you feel comfortable in (and are able to move), some socks (but make sure that your floor isn’t to slippery) and enjoy yourself ☺️ (Also one thing, please don’t force your turnout, turnout how ever wide feels natural. If it hurts, your knees aren’t over your toes when you plié or your weight isn’t spread equally on your foot when you stand flat it is to wide. Forcing your turnout only harms you)
Rex is such an elegant, attentive musician. Thank you so much for your detail and consistency. Your focus on your playing is something both inspiring and calming while trying to dance in a tiny NYC apartment.
Great and beautiful work-out. I am 75 years old and would like to continue improving both my body and hopefully slow-down the process of my deteriorating memory. Thank you so much for sharing the wisdom of your dance teacher to the public. The pianist is superb, as well. The music pieces were so rhythmic and inspiring.
I "fell off the wagon" over the summer I started a new business and was gardening and walking more, but last night I came back to the barre. The music started and the smile never left my face. It felt so lovely just to move again to the music. I am so grateful for these videos. It will be a long Covid winter here in Illinois, but this will be a light. Thank you!

I'm 45 now, had colon cancer stage 4 and recovered and now some metastasis to the brain and just had brain surgery, radio surgery and doing chemo all over again, It is beautiful to have found this free online classes since now everyone is pursuing after making money and have forgoten about giving just for the sake of it. This helps me a lot in my recovery, physically and emotionally and the music, well what can I say, I adore classical music and piano music has been a companion throughout my life. I really appreciate and thank all the people behind this. This is a change in the world, acts of kindness that go a long way in some people's lives. Thank you
I'd never be able to take these classes in real life - distance and skill level being the problem! This is truly the silver lining to the pandemic! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for this! I haven’t done ballet for 3 years because I was scared of going to a class in person. This barre made me remember how much and why I love ballet (and that consistency is key-I have never felt so out of shape!) Thank you again! :)
Can't believe I'm just finding these videos now. Trained seriously in ballet before deciding to pursue music instead. So wonderful to have a class that is both challenging and that I can still follow along. And, with an excellent pianist :) Thanks for this!
Thank you for taking the time to provide a free class online. It has been decades since I have done any ballet and I have been feeling the desire to participate in the art form again privately. Now I can in my own home. Ballet is a discipline for living and for life :)
Oh my god, I am from Brazil and I have just done these sequences at home during quarantine. I loved it so much!!! The way everything was shown, done with the viewers for the first time, and in the second time we could do it alone, so we could exercise our minds as well, it was just brilliant. Thank you so much!
Thanks a lot Ernst an Rex for all your Ballet classes. We are still in quarantine in Argentina (2 months so far), and following your exercises helps me not only to stay in shape, but also to keep my balance in every sense.

Mr. Meisner and Accompaniest, Thank you for your wonderful barres. I love how musical and square your barre is - the weight transitions and fun patterns. You are saving my sanity and technique. All the best to dancers everywhere - Go, Dutch National!
I am in my early 50's, and haven't danced since I was 19 (ballet for 13 yrs back then). This brought back so many memories for me, though I am finding my flexibility isn't what it used to be. Thank you SO much for doing this, it is wonderful.
I’ve been out the studio as a dancer, only teaching now, afraid to go back to the barre for my lack of muscle strength and stamina. This was amazing!!!!! I will do every day hopefully soon I can do a class again.
Hartelijk gedank! After a lifetime of amateur classes with an excellent teacher, I had not danced ballet for 10 years, living in the sticks in Vermont (USA), due to 2 hip replacements 9 years ago, followed by 2 shoulder replacements last year. At 66, I have not been getting any exercise, and now am up to 100 kg. As my right knee is troubling me, I started doing my old ballet warm-up, without music, to see if I could improve my muscular control. I just found you last night, so alone in my kitchen, I can do the barre to the best of my ability without being self-conscious, and love the gorgeous accompaniment, as well as this beautiful barre. It's great to shake off the cobwebs and start on a new resolve with your help!
This is the best of all the online ballet classes I’ve seen during this pandemic. So lovely to have the pianist too. My only request would be that you show each side for each exercise. Thank you so much for sharing these videos and stay well 💗
My mum used to be a ballet dancer - I am a classical musician. I have never done ballet so I am really grateful for your high quality content - I can get to know this art a bit better and stay active in quarantine! Thank you :)
As we stay at home during this life- changing time, my daughter had struggled finding online ballet class that was both at her advanced level and constant (not so much stopping) and your class has been amazing! So thank you from beautiful Idaho, for this great class my daughter had truly enjoyed! Blessings!
Thank you so much for sharing! I am an adult ballet student, intermediate level, in Canada. I started when I was 45 years of age and love it (never danced as a child, wish I had!). I was able to follow along and participate not too badly for my level of experience. Thank you for doing such a great job with this. I love the live piano as well! Stay well. Kelly
Thank you for a great class. Although it's a recording, the teacher's energy made me feel I was in his class in person. The pianist also did a wonderful job! A perfect class for a day trapped in the house due to snow. Thank you so much!
Thank you Ernst and Rex from Los Angeles. I've been using follow along barre videos to supplement my weekly class for about three years, and I've always complained that there aren't any good barre videos with a male dancer. This one is fantastic. I love the live piano. The second side with piano only is a good memory challenge (though I'll admit to having to do the first side three or four times until I get it.) Hartelijk gedank!
i loved it , its been so long ive never had my ballet class since 6 grade now im 31 years old, lol. so blessed to see this online class, keep up the good work, ur soo talented and amazing, nothing impossible in my age im gonna be ballerina amen
I'm a beginner to ballet and would greatly appreciate seeing both sides worked. Thank you so much for making these videos available to everyone stuck at home.👍❤
I am a ballet teacher, in Athens, Greece and I find your teaching style much similar to mine.It has been really fun to take the class and maybe (hopefully) feel like my own students feel, happy, challenged and exhilarated! I am very grateful that you decided to share your love of ballet with the rest of us, it's been wonderful so far, please keep up the good work! Special thanks to Rex and his superb talent
Thank you you guys for these amazing videos. Much appreciation from Japan. Amazing thing about dancing is we can all do together no matter where we are.
Wonderfulllllssss you on classes and the pianist! ! Despite I'm working in 2 hospitals during the nights, I saved this classes for trainning VERY son! Congratulations! !
The best of these I've tried so far - note to self: go see Dutch National Ballet perform when all this is over. Thanks for posting - I could (almost!) keep up.
Thank you so much! I would never have imagined taking a National Opera ballet class... and really proud to have gone through it without too much trouble, at 45 and having never been a professional! Love from Italy!
Love this video! I was involved in ballet for 10yrs growing up. I was soooo limber! I am 49 yo now and this video brings back all of my training and provided the much needed stretching for my now old joints and muscles.
I've done these classes over and over again and I'll never get tired, they're so good! I'm so grateful to have the oportunity to take classes with the gratest ballet teachers and dancers! thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, time and passion for this beautiful art!
Beautiful I love his timing it is impeccable ...hit the center of that beat every time. Not all professionals do . I am def. not a master teacher but close to 80 years I have danced and find that very few are right with the music.. perfection.
This class is outstanding! The film quality (audio and visual) is top-notch, the teacher explains each exercise very clearly, and the music is perfect. Thank you for uploading this, and I look forward to seeing more classes (center exercises/combinations would be awesome).
Thank you so much for posting these classes. I am a gymnastics coach in the US, and while we are unable to train at the gym, my athletes and I are using the time to work on our ballet technique. Your classes are put together so well that we are still able to follow along. Thank you for allowing us to continue training with you!
Great combinations and very useful verbal cues/corrections. Rex is incredible; his music has richness and depth and I love watching his hands dance on the keyboard. Doing the second side alone is great memory training.
Hi from Costa Rica! Thank you sooooo much. I loved this class. It's so amazing to see the ballet community working together online to stay in shape. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Today I woke up thinking about starting ballet again and searched for online classes. So happy I found you videos today and tomorrow for sure I'll find some muscles I didn't know I had. Thank you very much for sharing your work with us
Thank you from Japan and pray for bring coronavirus to an end. I learned ballet when I was 6 to 15, but became depression and gave up my ballerina's dream. I turned 23yold now, this video made me want to enjoy ballet again. Thank you very much!
The drills are helpful for keeping the mind flexible, open to routines as opposed to practicing a single move. The piano being live and on a non-electronic instrument plus the pianist shots heighten the atmosphere. The street clothes gives an accessible feeling. Thank you for these lessons.
These videos are amazing! I feel energized, I feel pretty, I feel SoFiStIcAtEd, and I AM SWEATING!! Thank you to everyone at Nationale Opera and Ballet!
As Belgium is back in lockdown, I'll be following your excellent classes again. They helped me a great deal during the first wave of COVID-19, so here we go again... Many thanks to the Dutch National Ballet for keeping these classes available online :-) Stay safe!
merci beaucoup de partager votre riche expérience avec nous , de façon aussi simple et claire . Merci aussi pour cette si bonne idée de partager également la musique . C'est un bonheur de pouvoir "travailler avec vous " .
Marvellous! It has been many years since my ballet training years at Les Grandes Ballet Canadien in Montreal. Though Multiple Sclerosis has robbed me of much, it cannot take my love of graceful movement and the joyful music that accompanies ballet classes. I can follow most of this class. It has inspired me to again get to the 'ballet bar' in my home, my wife to supervise! (or pick me up if I fall;)
As a dance student in training I highly recommend this video to keep up non-studio based practice! Really easy to follow and not too complexed steps but still enough that I found it challenging. (I am in second year at a contemporary dance conservatoire) I shall be participating with the other videos in due course :)
Thanks so much for you class. I'm not a professional dancer but I could follow your class along pretty well. This is the best online class on youtube!!! I'm looking forward to following the other classes along :) YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!!!
Absolutely loved this barre. Thank you so much for sharing!!! It brought me so much joy in this weird period. I am really looking forward to the next ones
Absolutely incredible. Your pace and instruction is wonderful; it's a joy to dance with you and to the gorgeous music played by Rex. As someone who loves to dance but has always struggled to remember choreography this is perfect for me to practice and improve those skills. I'll have to try many more times before I'll be able to do the second side by myself but this helps me work towards getting there :) Big thank you to everyone who helped make this video series happen! Xx
Thank you so much for your class! Really enjoyed it. I am an amateur dancer and find your reminders very helpful. Please keep going with these classes! Not only does this keep our bodies in shape, but even more so lifts our spirits.

OMG the pianist is magical!!!!
Amazing right! Did you dance also?
@@DutchNatOperaBallet Yes, still do. Thank you so very much for these beautiful exercises.
Thanks a lot Ernst an Rex for all your Ballet classes. We are still in quarantine in Argentina (2 months so far), and following your exercises helps me not only to stay in shape, but also to keep my balance in every sense.
In these difficult times, we continue to believe in the power of art. Opera and ballet offer comfort, distraction, inspiration and hope. ✨ Please let us know what you think of our First Ballet Barre Class in the comments!

Yes, please! I would like to see more videos with the most common mistakes when learning ballet . And how to correct them. Thank You!
Thank you very much from Argentina
@@jesicaceschan657 Thanks! Very cool idea! We'll put it on our list.
Excellent teacher!!! And the pianist - beautiful and inspiring music! Well done .Congratulations!!
Thank you Master! I'm following from Uruguay. Love dancing.
So happy to help! ❤️
This is the best of all the online ballet classes I’ve seen during this pandemic. So lovely to have the pianist too. My only request would be that you show each side for each exercise. Thank you so much for sharing these videos
and stay well 💗
Yes, that's a wonderful idea!!!
Thank you Mr. Meisner for the wonderful class. And please thank the Mr. Lobo for the lovely live music.
My mum used to be a ballet dancer - I am a classical musician. I have never done ballet so I am really grateful for your high quality content - I can get to know this art a bit better and stay active in quarantine! Thank you :)
After 27 years, I find the amazing sensations back, hartelijk dank voor uw les!
As we stay at home during this life- changing time, my daughter had struggled finding online ballet class that was both at her advanced level and constant (not so much stopping) and your class has been amazing! So thank you from beautiful Idaho, for this great class my daughter had truly enjoyed! Blessings!
Haven't done ballet in about 6 years. It feels great to be doing barre work again. Thank you!!!
Stay well. Kelly
@sof bunny Never too late! Five years later, I am now doing pointe work as well! Enjoy!
more than 50 years without practicing .... and a wonderful teacher, with good tempo and nice music to follow. THANKS! Really MERCI for sharing.
The second side with piano only is a good memory challenge (though I'll admit to having to do the first side three or four times until I get it.) Hartelijk gedank!
i loved it , its been so long ive never had my ballet class since 6 grade now im 31 years old, lol. so blessed to see this online class, keep up the good work, ur soo talented and amazing, nothing impossible in my age im gonna be ballerina amen
this is a chance in a million, still alive at 76 and now able to have ballet-lessons....thnx a million, you guys!!!with all my heart
Very happy to hear that Christine! Keep on dancing.
That is so nice to hear, thank you Chiara!
Love this video! I was involved in ballet for 10yrs growing up. I was soooo limber! I am 49 yo now and this video brings back all of my training and provided the much needed stretching for my now old joints and muscles.
Ge-wel-dig! Zo genoten van deze barre met Rex als begeleider. Herinneringen aan opleiding duizend jaar geleden ;-) Bedankt!!!
I've done these classes over and over again and I'll never get tired, they're so good! I'm so grateful to have the oportunity to take classes with the gratest ballet teachers and dancers! thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, time and passion for this beautiful art!
Thousands of thanks from the USA! You have really made my life so much happier! Blesses to you all!
Beautiful I love his timing it is impeccable ...hit the center of that beat every time. Not all professionals do . I am def. not a master teacher but close to 80 years I have danced and find that very few are right with the music.. perfection.
Thanks because these classes are of great support in these difficult times... helping our mental health to overcome this!
The Dutch speak brilliant English ... thank you for this
Thank you for a lovely moment at the barre on a rainy COVID-19 day
This class is outstanding!
What a lovely class!
Hi from Costa Rica! Thank you sooooo much. I loved this class. It's so amazing to see the ballet community working together online to stay in shape. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Just terrific instructor and wonderful pianist, I couldn't be more happy, Thank you, Thank you. Thank you
Beautiful , interesting barre work. Such positive vibes from teacher. Pianist is so wonderful too.
Yes! Start doing ballet again! Let your dream come true !
Thank you so much for these videos! What a wonderful instructor. And the pianist is 2nd to none! Incredible! Thank you!!
As Belgium is back in lockdown, I'll be following your excellent classes again. They helped me a great deal during the first wave of COVID-19, so here we go again... Many thanks to the Dutch National Ballet for keeping these classes available online :-) Stay safe!
How I miss that...Thank you so much for these wonderful barre exercises...in my own living room.
Great class. Not only did it get my old body moving, it made my brain work!
merci beaucoup de partager votre riche expérience avec nous , de façon aussi simple et claire . Merci aussi pour cette si bonne idée de partager également la musique . C'est un bonheur de pouvoir "travailler avec vous " .
Please don’t delete it, this is such a beautiful find ❤️ please keep the video online at least until after this corona virus passes ❤️
Thank you
How wonderful to hear! Good luck to you (and your wife 😉).
I loved it, your class was amazing and the pianist, uff, so passionate.
We're so glad to here you enjoyed the ballet class Luisa!
