  • In this video Martin gets the opportunity to test-drive one of the first examples of the fully electric Renault Megane's available in the UK.
Definitely not a review, but we answer the questions one can't get from the brochure - what is the car like to drive, how do the blended brakes react, interior materials quality, and a walkthrough of the Android Automotive based infotainment system, unfortunately only on the smaller 9" display, as the Tesla-style 12" screen is not available in the UK (at the time of launch).

I like it when a technician like you does a review. It’s done from a perspective that’s more valuable to me than from someone who just knows how to drive and read some press info

Great review, been waiting for a UK spec review. Thanks

Got my test drive booked next week. Got to say I am not as enthusiastic as I was when placing order for the Launch Edition, which for the UK is identical to the Techno apart from sound system, rear view mirror and wheel style. Nothing like the interior used on dealer presentation I attended last month. Extremely poor colour choice (3) for Launch Edition as well.
Your video, as informative as it is, is slowly extinguishing my desire to purchase, unless the test drive and seeing the UK model in the flesh can overcome my rising doubts.

Thanks Martin for the very good video. There is quite a lot to understand and get to grips with so I am going to have to prepare myself ahead of a test drive. Took a call from my dealer yesterday who said their demonstrator will not be available until the end of the month or early October. I’m a bit disappointed that the regen paddles cannot be used to add more assistance to bring the car to a complete halt. Do you know when planning a trip if you can bring up alternative charging stops by changing range at arrival, sorting by network and distance away from the route etc? It is obviously far less complicated in a Tesla using their default Supercharger network. Do you think it will be possible to ditch Zap Maps?

Nice overview. I wish all manufacturers were doing V2L, it's something I am going to require on my next EV I think.

Shame the new Megane does not have V2L, it was mentioned from launch it may support it but since found out Renault mean for later revisions of the car.

The wheel buttons requiring a proper press is such a relief, i hate any car with capacitive buttons

I just test drove one (in Glasgow), top spec. It's great, very comfortable. I had a BMW i3 back in 2016 (since moved to a Corolla) and miss EV driving. No charging at home due to living in a flat, but I think I can manage with the public charging network again.

Compatibility with 22kW AC + CCS DC rapid charging does make a big difference when you don't have a driveway. 👍

Now has the heat pump and uses Google maps
Iconic top trim has a camera incorporated in the rear view camera

This Renault Megane E-Teck is perfect, compare to the ID.3. I drove both and this car is way better than the ID.3.

Whilst I'm not an SUV person, I have to say that I do like the look of the Megane.
But, upwards of £40k is nuts...!!
Like others have suggested, I think I'd rather save a whole pile of cash and have the MG4 Trophy, especially with its rear-wheel-drive layout and 7 year warranty.

      It's not a suv it's a hatch

    • @wiselyauto
      @wiselyauto  ปีที่แล้ว

As Andy said, it's much more of a hatch in person or possibly a crossover at most.
The current UK price is just under £40k for the Launch Edition (starting at just under £36k for the base Equilibre trim).
MG 4 does indeed look like a very good option for the money though...

Hahaha. This reviewer says the UK version of this car does not come with the huge portrait info-tainment screen, but it doesn't matter that much. Ehmmm. YES IT DOES!!! Especially for people who like big screens and not a cost cutting smaller version. I was interested in this car when I saw the portrait screen, and then I immediately lost all serious interest the minute I found out the UK version would not have that large screen. If I bought the car I would always feel cheated somehow.

Where has the large screen, light leather interior and heat pump gone?? Renault has decontented the UK models 😡

As an I3s owner I also had the opportunity the drive the new Megane E. My conclusion: there is still a lot of work to be done for Renault before it can even compete with an I3. Keep in mind that the I3 was designed in 2013. Especially the “sport mode” is quite disappointing.

The acceleration could be improved. However, think the power delivery may have been de-tuned after journalists complained about strong torque steer on the pre-production vehicles.

That looks very cheaply built... When I saw that remote control that looks like a garage door opener from the 1980s.. !
I can't see this vehicle having any long term durability..
If you must have an EV (now the real facts of what EV ownership now means) then lease this vehicle...
