Just driven this (Techno spec) in the UK, back-to-back (all in same week) against Polestar 2, Kia Niro, e208, ID3, and Cupra Born. Shortlisted to Polestar and Megane and just ordered Megane which pipped the Polestar as my partner though the Megane was a little more "her"! Stunning interior materials, design and quality, the 9" centre screen is a non-issue, being incredibly responsive and detailed, and most of the time you may have the very larger driver display with the google map on and all the apps on the centre... a very flexible package. It knocks all of the others out of the park overall. Only things I'd have like to see would be electric seat option and a little more tilt in the seat base, and a powered tailgate, but totally understand that Renault had huge focus on weight (it's nearly 300kg lighter than Polestar), and it shows as the performance is great - with the drive being very nimble. Ignore the 0-60 times (which is still good) - the rolling response, especially in sport mode, is fabulous. Great review - keep it up - would be good to see you in a right-hand drive launch edition.
Really interesting comment, thanks. I also went for a Megane over a Born, mainly because it was available much earlier, but I’m reassured by comments like this.
Another excellent review Derek. Not as sunny as your original Megane experience in Spain :) Congrats Derek on 10k subscribers...and many thousands more to come i am sure.
I traveled to Bristol a few weeks ago for a test drive. I had concerns on the downgraded version we would be getting but I have to say I wasn’t too disappointed. The smaller screen did not come as big as an issue as I thought it would neither did the rear view from the mirror, it wasn’t brilliant but adequate and not a deal breaker. It drives beautifully, loved every moment. In fact I changed my pre order from a Launch Edition to the Techno with my dealer immediately after the test drive. Couldn’t see the reason for paying £1,500 more for a sound system, rear view camera and gold blade which to my eyes didn’t sit well with the 3 colour choices. I did hear deliveries for the UK start this month so eagerly awaiting a call from the dealer with my VIN, then I know it is truly on its way.
I’ve been in a bit of a quandary as to whether to go for the UK Launch Edition or Techo but veering towards LE for the rear view camera. Having driven a few Tesla Model 3’s the poor rear visibility has annoyed me. Whilst it is a disappointment that rhd markets are not getting the larger portrait screens I agree that the 9” horizontal screen is not too bad a substitute as the essential SatNav information is easily displayed in the driver’s instrument binnacle. I do however think the dark headlining makes the interior rather gloomy - especially as I have had glass sunroofs in all my cars for the past 25 years. Whilst it would have been nice to see a glass sunroof or a panoramic roof I would be surprised if this arrives as the engineering would have to be integral to the design of the car. Not a big fan of the gold blades and I would like to see an option of a higher boot floor, as in the ID.3, so as to provide more storage area. I want to drive the E-Tech back to back with a Cupra Born although I think the tech in the Renault is far superior.
Thanks both for such comprehensive comments. The Techno RHD is a great trim but like you say, the rear facing camera is very good. Screen size is grand.
@@richardpiper4828 The Cupra Born was on my list as a contender. Had one for 2 days whilst my Formentor software was updated days before my test drive in the Megane. Didn’t like the brakes in the Born, that regenerative bit before the brakes are applied caused a few moments of panic, not a good experience but only 40 minutes in the Megane convinced this was the EV to get. Totally agree with infotainment comment, the Born system is almost identical to my Formentor and even after the update it has new issues, particularly intermittent iphone connection and sat nav inconsistencies. Picked up my Megane etech Equilibre 60kwh a few weeks ago. In love with it, incredible car and big jump from the Zoe I had before. I got it in red, and it’s personal preference, but I think it’s the colour that suits it most. The techno spec was just a tad out of reach, but to be honest, the Equilibre is so well spec-ed, you won’t be disappointed! Also, the breaks are jarring at first. Far more sensitive than the Zoe for example. However, you get used to the brakes pretty quickly and I love the different levels of regen. Again, personal preference here, but one of the best looking EVs / cars on the road at the moment. If I see another ID4, I think I might cry lol

Hi Rus, I think you'll use your phone for route planning and apps. Unless you're driving different routes on a regular basis, you'll start to understand the battery level when you arrive. It will still give you a range, just not an arrival state of charge
The biggest disappoint with this is the lack of V2H capability. I think most manufacturers missing a trick here as V2H completely changes the cost of ownership equation, particularly with rising fuel costs and numbers of people installing solar panels as it lowers your domestic electricity bill as well as car running costs.

I'm sure sales will take a hit in the UK with the downgraded internal trim over France. No heat pump in the UK, just taken it off my possible to buy list in 2023!!
So Renault are doing the traditional Irish cheap out, with obvious cost cutting. But at 40K a disgrace. Its off my list. MG it is. Defending the cheap screen is a bit much.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland No, its a let them eat cake from Renault. Also, you are letting your personal relationship with the fine people and Renault Ireland cloud you judgment. absolutely shocking approach from Renault to the UK market. same "equivalent" price but smaller screen, worse interior trim, and no massage seats. makes it very hard to consider it an option at this price point, especially with the likes of the SMART #1 reviewing so favourably in comparison and being nearly identical on paper.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland can't find a definitive source to confirm that one. I would wager it's a safe assumption what with it being a joint venture, and Mercedes having an established dealer network in the UK.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland There was speculation earlier this year that the new Smart #1 would be the first Smart car to be sold direct...i have asked Smart about this but they would not confirm or deny this...i am wondering if their delayed launch may have been something to do with this as they get systems in place to order direct.Time will tell.

@@NevoEVReviewIreland is "V2X" vehicle to grid? Thinkin down the line of solar panels and thinkin it would be great to have a car to soak up excess solar during the day and discharge to house at peak times to avoid expensive electricity rates if thats possible. Thanks for the comments both. It's a step up to the single motor C40/XC40 here in Ireland to mid 50k. Another great EV and it's it something we are able to have so many to choose from
For it's spec, it's overpriced. Almost as dear for a 40kw version as a base Ioniq 5 58kw Also style has been put before practicality. Tiny rear windscreen, massive step in rear boot floor when back seats are dropped and the boot opening itself looks tiny. Ok, if all you are going to do is grocery shopping, but for people who like to fit their bicycle in the boot, rather than bolt on a hitch or roofbars, it's a loser. Renault have misjudged their prices for what's on offer. The car needs to be about €28-30k and the Zoe needs to be less expensive by a similar amount. Stylish, good efficiency, good towing capability, but impractical compared to opposition and overpriced. Bit disappointed with it due to the day to day impracticalities for someone who uses their car for other than simple people transportation. Things have moved on a lot since the Zoe and Leaf were born.

if only we had 1 DC charger in the north that could go over 45kw never mind the dizzy heights 100+
Thanks for the comment Adrian. Glad you liked it. One thing I didn't mention was rear visibility but the rear facing camera solves that 😉
I'm sure sales will take a hit in the UK with the downgraded internal trim over France. No heat pump in the UK, just taken it off my possible to buy list in 2023!!
Thanks for the comment David. Not sure the UK sales will be hit as such a limited supply
Does Irish model get Heat Pump and Larger MMI centra display ?
Heat pump for Ireland nice
As an option yes, larger screen at some point but not yet
So Renault are doing the traditional Irish cheap out, with obvious cost cutting. But at 40K a disgrace. Its off my list. MG it is.
Defending the cheap screen is a bit much.
Not sure Renault Ireland has much choice with spec. MG and others will pick up price sensitive customers and those looking better value
@@NevoEVReviewIreland No, its a let them eat cake from Renault. Also, you are letting your personal relationship with the fine people and Renault Ireland cloud you judgment. I own a Megane by the way, as so I am the customer they are looking to. ( though any old electric poop will sell, according to Renault.) Just not to me. I am a 6 car Renault owner in 30 years.
Thanks for the reply Edward. I actually take slight offence to the comment about the personal relationship with the fine people at Renault. I think it's a fair a balanced review hopefully like all my reviews. If you look at other Irish reviews they don't even bring up the smaller screen, heat pump or dark interior.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland Well, then why be offended if if there is nothing too it? This is only TH-cam. I like your stuff, keep up the good work and take criticism on the chin. Your chanel, your views, I am passing on my humble opinion. For you to ignore or take on board as you see fit.
@@edwardkinsella287 Apologies Edward, feedback is always taken on board thank you. I appreciate the time you took to write the comments. I need to work on my reviews if viewers think I'm not being impartial enough.
absolutely shocking approach from Renault to the UK market. same "equivalent" price but smaller screen, worse interior trim, and no massage seats.
makes it very hard to consider it an option at this price point, especially with the likes of the SMART #1 reviewing so favourably in comparison and being nearly identical on paper.
and no Renault dealers, before you ask: I don't want to book a test drive to see if I change my mind. give your heads a shake.
Thanks for your comment. Not sure we'll get the Smart over here in Ireland. Is the UK dealer network via Mercedes Benz dealers?
@@NevoEVReviewIreland can't find a definitive source to confirm that one. I would wager it's a safe assumption what with it being a joint venture, and Mercedes having an established dealer network in the UK.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland There was speculation earlier this year that the new Smart #1 would be the first Smart car to be sold direct...i have asked Smart about this but they would not confirm or deny this...i am wondering if their delayed launch may have been something to do with this as they get systems in place to order direct.Time will tell.
Beautiful car. Very expensive which is a shame.
Thanks Sean. A great car and many will go for it.
Hello mate
Evening
This and other car makers are going to lose sales to the Chinese brands. MG is the biggest rival so far with the MG4. €10k difference between base models. Can't be ignored .
Value with the MG for sure but Renault won't be left looking at these on their forecourts
@@NevoEVReviewIreland no for sure, I would seriously consider the Renault and was excited for it when you first viewed it, but then...... The Chinese came.......
@@nerfpaul2497 would like to see a longer test of the MG4. The price is very hard to argue withsurely there has to be some awkward niggly aspects to it. Does it have vehicle to grid? Prob not
The MG does have V2X, the Renault doesn't to my knowledge
@@NevoEVReviewIreland is "V2X" vehicle to grid? Thinkin down the line of solar panels and thinkin it would be great to have a car to soak up excess solar during the day and discharge to house at peak times to avoid expensive electricity rates if thats possible.
On a diff note, have you heard of people using old Leaf batteries as static storage instrad of buying a dedicated home battery?
Ékilibre
Thanks for the comment
Interior specs not as good as what's available in Norway and the rest of EU. Keep your €40k in your account until we get equal treatment.
Hopefully the differences will be rectified soon
Mmmm!!!! Looks like carpet on the dash ????
Ha! Potentially. I really like the overall package
@@NevoEVReviewIreland but isn’t fabric on a dashboard a dust collector! I can vacuum my dashboard when I clean my car 🚗 😂
@Honey Bunny- Tom Hickey Now you won't have to! 😜
Equilibre = hey key Lee br
Many thanks!
@@NevoEVReviewIreland I'd have said "Ay-ki-lee-br" (no pronounced H at the start)
Looks good. But the rangeis not too far. And the car is Frenche. THAT say enough.
frenche…….
Ha ha Ruud. Harsh. What would you select instead?
All right hand drive model are underspeced, the tiny screen is a disgrace. Keep well away from this car.
Thanks for the comment, I'd say they'll sell out no matter what the size of screen
45000 for renault ? !!! volvo is better
Volvo is literally €20k more expensive...
Thanks for the comments both. It's a step up to the single motor C40/XC40 here in Ireland to mid 50k. Another great EV and it's it something we are able to have so many to choose from
@@JanBartSpang Twin motor xc40/c40 is €20k more expensive than launch edition but single motor xc40/c40 is only €6k
you driving on the wrong side ,
Ha, here in Ireland we drive on the left!
For it's spec, it's overpriced. Almost as dear for a 40kw version as a base Ioniq 5 58kw
Also style has been put before practicality.
Thanks for the comment Francis. Now it's down to the market to decide if it agrees with you. It's good we now have so much choice.
Get a MG4 and it is much better tha this one,
Thanks for the comment. Definitely another choice for potential EV buyers
