I think my iPad mini with GoodNotes is my perfect solution. Specifically, because you have a feature where you can have a portion of the screen zoomed in for writing, and it will offer you a box to automatically advance across the page and then onto new lines so you don't have to constantly be manually scrolling the page. THIS one was BIG for me. I now do almost all of my handwriting notes and markup on my iPad mini, and because of the zooming feature, I don't wish for a larger iPad at all.
thank you!! i’m considering buying a mini and i use an app for note taking in class as well; this was one of my main concerns so your review really helps me. it probably takes some time to get used to the zoom-in window feature, but i don’t mind that as long as it actually solves the problem and it doesn’t make me buy a larger ipad!
For those just seeing this video like me, the review is a good one. None of these tools is perfect for every situation. Unless you can afford to have a lot of tools in the bag, you will have to decide what you think your needs are. For example, if the device is going to sit on a desk and you are going to use it to take long notes, such as in a classroom or meetings, then the larger iPads are probably best to start with. If your note taking involves quicker notes, especially while on the move, then the Mini will be of interest. Do choose a device that allows for using the Pencil 2d generation. It is far and away better than the earlier one.
I was in the same boat when I recently thought about getting an iPad for homework/note taking. I'm already near the end of my brand new notebook I got in November. Sometimes Physics homework takes 7-8 pages so an iPad was more ideal in the long run. I went with the 2020 iPad pro 11" and I haven't looked back. A lot of space to write notes while being comfy. Also really nice because it allows me to take pictures of diagrams and put them directly into my homework/notes.
@@masonreno8957 I haven’t seen the mini in person, but I’m sure you could get used to writing on it. It would also be nice imo to have a smaller size since you could take it more places
You logic is flawed when comparing it the mini to the pro. The topic stops a portability, that it. the pro is heavy and cumbersome when your moving around and taking notes on the move and standing up. You noticed whenever you were using the pro it was placed on a flat surface when writing your notes. The mini’s quick access to taking notes and move around as you do so is where it excels over the pro. Your issues regarding mini are myopic. I’ve seen first hand the benefits of the mini over the pro in real life work flow activities to where the size does matter and the form factor in the compact size in this scenario was a plus. Why would you need a keyboard everywhere you go, when the idea is less is more for working on the fly. You’re not taking into account work situations outside of your own for this comparison.
Very smart comment! Indeed portability is everything that matters when it comes to the mini, obviously so, otherwise you would go for a larger more powerful model.
Very true even using a keyboard is not actually as good as macbook but for note taking for 12.9 is so annoying you need to remove the ipad pro bare in order for you to write and prone for dings and scratches. Mini and 11inch is the way to go
It depends on person to person. As a lawyer I find the small screen to be an issue. I need to make a lot of notes daily and the 11 inch iPad Pro is what I love using. 12.9 is just too big. Other than note taking, any plus or pro max iphone would be better for viewing content rather than getting the ipad mini. I guess it all depends on your profession and how much or quantity of notes you need to take.

It can also be a task manager device, syncing your calendar, looking at your notes, etc. My tech stack, 14 m1 pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and soon to acquire ipad mini.
I personally love the size. Any detailed notes is fine and normally for my user case if I need to watch a video I use one of my bigger screens. In a pinch though I can do the video with the pop up notes. In no way should this be compared to the iPad Pro. I own a tab s 7 plus and never asked myself if I should sell the bigger or return the smaller. Instead they each have their own useful scenarios……yes for note taking as well.
Honestly, for a student, only living off an iPad with a keyboard is not realistic. Usually both a laptop and an iPad are in the backpack. In that case, typing notes on iPad is not that of a strong demand. Usually students use iPad in class to write the notes down.

I am with you on nothing touching the Note series for the reasons you listed along with Dex option for when you need a pocket computer. I am starting to turn though with that surface duo because of my ability to take notes in onenote while having an ebook or whatever else open. My mini gets here tommorrow but it is doubtful I will use it much as I have been glued to the Duo. My tab s7+ has issues with charging while in use now days which is why I do not use it as much and now that I got the smaller devices I think I will end up trading it in for the next Note series phone that comes out as while amazing I no longer need such a huge tablet.
Hey man, great video! I currently have an 3rd gen IPad Pro 11in and Apple Pencil 2.0, like you said I was planning on switching to MacBook Air and iPad mini. Should I just get the MacBook Air and keep the Pro for note taking?, or trade it in for a basically free mini. Either way wouldn’t be to much of a cost as ill get it for Christmas. What’s your opinion? I would love to know. 👍🏻
@AUTUMNVIBES wow thank you so much!!! I don't have either an iPad or a MacBook at the moment only a Chromebook. I was thinking of getting a MacBook air to do most of my work and then an iPad mini for stuff like reading books, media, and writing notes as it's so portable I can use it literally anywhere. I am starting a computer science degree soon so I need the laptop anyway for coding. Do you think a Windows laptop would be a better idea and/or a different size iPad?
I would have watched this video before my purchase , multitasking and notes taking is pain in the ass on this device , I should have bought air instead. *regrets* . Is their any kind of option where apple may exchange the device in Indian market .
The variety of uses that others have for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be. A Master of Non - but Good at a lot of stuff. I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 9 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult -so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing. After 9 years of ownership, I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following - otherwise it sits in a drawer. #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%) #3 - as an eReader (4%) #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year. BTW I would 'NEVER" buy a bigger iPad as the Mini is simply a great portable complimentary device.
Im considering purchasing the ipad mini 6th gen for several reasons. One of which is for note taking for AP Calculus BC Let me know how you felt math felt on the ipad mini 6
I wish I would have gotten the 12.9 pro but I got the smaller one instead. I also have the mini but I don’t like it as much as I thought I would. But I do love it as a textbook. I use my pro for notes and my mini for my textbooks so I don’t have to carry those around
To be fair, note taking doesnt default to 8.5x11 and typing or while watching videos. I often go for my 5x7 paper note pads and even my sticky notes for...you know, taking notes. Lets be more realistic about what kind of notes we are talking about.
So, there’s less room in the mini than other iPads and a keyboard that’s mini sized would be too small so there isn’t one. Thanks for stating the obvious thee chap.
Hi Paul! Ive been binge watching your videos and im really impressed with how you explain things in such a simple manner. Also, may i ask if you are willing to gift your old ipad mini 6 to me?

lately i played CODM with bluetooth mouse and keyboard on my TAB S7... Demm i feel so cheating hahahaha
Thanks for your Honest review
Thank you for this video. What note taking app did you use on this review?
its notes, its there on any apple device.
Mini is probably ideal if you already plan on getting the MacBook. A laptop basically covers all of the mini’s weaknesses.
Please update us as this is exactly what I am planning to do once I have saved up the money!
@@mrchunks912 makes sense. Pulling the trigger this weekend
@AUTUMNVIBES thanks for your opinion, taking it into consideration
I would have watched this video before my purchase , multitasking and notes taking is pain in the ass on this device , I should have bought air instead. *regrets* . Is their any kind of option where apple may exchange the device in Indian market .
Which app is shown on the video where you can write your notes by keyboard and by Apple pencil too?
i hope you get better!!
still happy with my ipad 2018 hehe and i still want ipad mini6
Thank you for your opinion and review. So far I'm enjoying it drawing and taking notes.
Hello, what note app were you using?

Useful review, thanks
The variety of uses that others have for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be. A Master of Non - but Good at a lot of stuff.
I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 9 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult -so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing.
After 9 years of ownership, I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following - otherwise it sits in a drawer.
#1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%)
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
#3 - as an eReader (4%)
#4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%)
Since it is on its last leg (but not dead) - I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out later this year. BTW I would 'NEVER" buy a bigger iPad as the Mini is simply a great portable complimentary device.
Great video, Paul!
Watching on my air 4 ✨
I bought ipad mini as a companion of my ipad 12.9.
The pencil comes with the ipad mini 2021?
Apple does not do business that way. 😉
I love your keyboards. But i dont know that name :((
Im considering purchasing the ipad mini 6th gen for several reasons. One of which is for note taking for AP Calculus BC
Let me know how you felt math felt on the ipad mini 6
What is the app you’re using ??

Hey long time I haven’t tuned in
what note app you're using?
idkbu but i dont use ipad to take pics when my professor is in front writing. i use my iPhone
I wish I would have gotten the 12.9 pro but I got the smaller one instead. I also have the mini but I don’t like it as much as I thought I would.
But I do love it as a textbook. I use my pro for notes and my mini for my textbooks so I don’t have to carry those around
Which note taking app you are using in this video?
Is it pocketable?
Good video can you put video about iPad Air 4 ?
bro idk what noteaking is but I ain't doin it
Im working in office. Fed up with carry diary or new log book. I just carry tablets. It's easier.
To be fair, note taking doesnt default to 8.5x11 and typing or while watching videos. I often go for my 5x7 paper note pads and even my sticky notes for...you know, taking notes. Lets be more realistic about what kind of notes we are talking about.
Yup. Leave the typing thingy to the Mac.
Rest your iPad around your hand and grab the right side of the iPad with your finger. Then, portability won't be any issue.

Notes on mini6: waste of time
Games on any ipad: time well spent

is it worth it for 7th grade?
So, there’s less room in the mini than other iPads and a keyboard that’s mini sized would be too small so there isn’t one. Thanks for stating the obvious thee chap.
Hey
Nıce
Hi Paul! Ive been binge watching your videos and im really impressed with how you explain things in such a simple manner.
Also, may i ask if you are willing to gift your old ipad mini 6 to me?
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
$499 is too much for a mini ipad in my opinion ... it's a rip off
