Another awesome video!! I did my own intake thanks to these guys!! A video for a lower ball joint would be PHENOMINAL. THERE IS NO GOOD SOLID GO TO video for a lower ball joint except the one where the guy presses it in. But he leaves out several details and its half started at beginning.
@@1AAuto You got it!!! I probably speak for many you have helped. I never did an intake before and didnt even think I could till I watched your video. A fast easy lower ball joint vid would top it off. Or lower control arm with ball joint. Thanks a bunch!!
When we make the alignment mark in the video, it help you to re-align the vehicle so that it doesn't become to far out of alignment. If you didn't mark them, once the ball joints are installed you may want to have an alignment done pretty quickly so that the tires do not wear out.
It should be torqued down, we currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this. If you have a Haynes or Chiltons manual it should cover the repair with torque specs.
It may help to make the alignment easier if you align the cams with a mark. If there's anything that you remove that's dried out, it would probably be a good time to replace it.
2003 grand marquis. Been having a strange noice over bumps or when car seems to twist. Pushed down on drivers side tonight and I can hear a clunk. Unfortunately I can’t push the car up and down while trying to locate the sound. But I do notice the boot on the upper ball joint is torn. Is it likely this is where my noise is coming from? If so, how long do I have to get this knocked out? It’s starting to get cold here and last time I did control arms/ball joints took me awhile. There is also a bit of shimmy in the steering wheel st high way speeds. Not a lot but enough to notice. Thoughts? Thank you.
Thanks for the great video! wish you success for the future. I have a 2001 Crown vic and your videos really help me knowing about my car. I have one issue though, when I turn the stearing wheel towards the extreme right or left when stationary or during u-turn, I hear a THUD sound. Please advice
Awesome video. Was anybody else’s nature welded in place? Took a hell of a lot of whacks to get the ball joints out after all nuts and the one bolt were removed. Thought I was going to break my ball joint fork.
I just wanted to mention that when I tightened the two lock nuts above the cams to 118 ft-lbs, the threading on the nuts and the bolt stripped completely. I am unsure if my torque wrench is faulty (seemed to click fine when I tested it on other nuts), or if the part is defective, or if the aftermarket part has different torque specs than this one. I'll bite the damage since I caused it, but 118 ft-lbs seems really up there.
When replacing upper ball joint, do some automakers suggest that you replace the entire upper control arm as opposed to replacing the ball joint itself? I have an '05 Mercury Grand Marquis LS and they say the upper ball joint is non-replaceable.
It looks as though the upper ball joint might not be serviceable on that particular year, make, model. We carry new upper control arms for it, with the ball joint attached. We also offer FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
The bigger cam hole looks grooved on one side more than the other but that would make one side of the car have adjustability farther forward with castor and vice versa right? It seems like they should have a reversed image for driver and passenger side.
I'm going to be replacing the lower control arms and upper ball joints on my 94 grand marquis is there anything else i should go ahead and change while i'm in there. Also do I need to make the marks on the alignment cams since I will have to get a wheel alignment right after.
Do you happen to have a lower ball joint video as well? I'm looking into doing a full front end rebuild on a 00, everything except the gear box and struts or shocks.
+JR.A Thank you for your order. If they did not come with grease fittings they are self contained and come pre-greased. The do not need to be greased. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Why is it that the entire control arm has to be replace on earlier models? I bought a lower ball joint by itself for my 06 crown vic p71 then I seen this video. I'm just curious.

These guys rock!! They give detailed descriptions and simplify everything!!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks a million Mike. Ordered the set from ur Kansas WHSE for my 2001 Town car. Followed ur video here and good to go. Keep these coming.

We'll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.

Where you need to disturb some of the suspension pieces it wouldn't be a bad idea to get it aligned.

thank you for considering this, i find there is a shortage of videos on first gen crown vics

I am going to do this myself, the tire shop wanted almost $300 which included an alignment. Is a alignment necessary after this is done?
Thanks for this video this will really help me out.
I see you have a forward 2 post lift just wondering what you have to say about it I’m stuck between Forward and BendPak

Great! You make it look easy. What brand of upper joints do you recommend?
Good video. Thanks for your series
one real important question i have, do you calculate the length of the extension into the torque spec on the nuts? EXCELLENT video by the way :)
Do you have one for lower ball joint?
Is there any way around buying a Torque wrench or no?
Is there any way you can make a video fo you removing and installing the lower ball joint of a 96 grand marqiues?
Do you have a video for changing upper ball joints / upper control arms for 2003 crown vic. Ordered my parts from you guys. Thanks!

Which cam is for caster and camber
Awesome video. Thanks
The earlier model might not be serviceable ball joint.
My pinch bolt is getting thread damage when hammering in.
You can replace the one that's bad, but the other side may not be far behind it.
Can you do a lower ball joint for the same car same side
How do i get grease in my ball joint and tie rod ends. I purchased my parts from 1A auto and they did not come with a grease fitting?????? Help
+JR.A Thank you for your order. If they did not come with grease fittings they are self contained and come pre-greased. The do not need to be greased. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts so they are ready to install. No grease needed?.
Wow!! So its that easy to change???

When replacing the entire upper control arm do the come already aligned or will i still haft to get an alignment?
its not the shaft getting aligned.. its the placement of the joint on the studs where the nuts mount the arm. it has to be done.

do u need a alignment after?
Torque specs: 90ft lbs on bolt that's horizontal
118ft lbs on top two

yes any time u replace suspension parts u need to
Just make your cam marks facing each other. Then you can just look straight down on them from above.
Is this the same process for an 04 grand marquis??

+GameOnDude 3 We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers that particular application. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com
Where’s the shock in the front?
Why not just use a paint marker for the cam nuts rather than chisel on them?
+corthirteenth94 Thanks for the tip!
Is it necessary to Greese the new ball joints?. I asked an associate at autozone and they said that they come pre-greesed.
if it has a grease fitting, yes always grease them
No you should be okay.
How much does this cost

why in the world don't they use greasable ball joints from the factory?!?!?
Glyn Robinson Oddly they last longer than greaseable ones, especially if you don’t grease the greaseable ones often.
Really, don't see many mechanics using a claw hammer
what's the deal using a claw hammer all shops have ball pean hammers I would never use a claw hammer working on a car can mess up claw hammer face
Why are you using a carpenters claw hammer for auto repair? :P
Seriously though, thanks for the vid, well done!!
Seriously,cant see anything
CLAW HAMMER??🤣
