Thanks for putting this together. I love mine, although I’ve probably invested too much in the M line and will probably live to regret it. I’ve got all the Sigmas, the 32, 22, and goofy macro with the built in light. I got it the M line because the full sized SLR and all the gear were killing my back!

I picked one up a few months back. I shoot on a Minolta CLE for my street photography so carrying a much larger digital mirrorless didn't make sense. What made sense was to use a couple of EF-M lenses and borrow a few rangefinding Leica M-mount. I really love this little setup and wish Canon had pursued it further some some higher quality lenses and weather sealing like the GFX MkIII. I suspect the market disruption for the pandemic undid any future plans they had.
I thank you for this info, I just bought one of them with the view finder and a 15-45mm lens for $850, and decided to grab a sigma 30mm for $160 dollars on eBay and I was kind of worry about the idea that it was discontinued, but thanks for the info I feel a little better now about this purchase. 😀
I use EF lenses on my M6 II. MPB has been a good place for used gear. I just got a view finder for $116 for those times I will need it outdoors. I have a Viltrox ef-efs to efm adapter and I have a viltrox ef to ef-m speedbooster. My Canon efs 24mm f/2.8 lens is the famous pancake. I have a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens. I have a Canon EF 75-300 f/4 to f/5.6 and a 2x teleconverter for moon pix. My favorite lens is my first gen Tamron VC 24-70 EF lens f/2.8. I am not upgrading. Good video.
@@mrgringo7289 no. I have an EF-S 24mm that only the mount adapter works. The speed booster only works with EF. I do have the Tamron EF 24-70 f/2.8 that the speed booster makes a 17mm f/2 .
As a happy owner (I have 2 of them!) I can say that in my opinion it is probably still the best camera for traveling light. the EF-M18-150, 11-22 and 32 mm F/1.4 combo is perfect for the purpose. With adapter and L series lenses it becomes a monster! The video side is also discreet and by choosing a neutral profile it produces files that are very workable in post production even if we are not talking about 10 bit; it's really a shame that Canon has decided to discontinue the M series; perhaps not even Canon had understood its potential!
honestly i really enjoyed this video, just ordered one and it should arrive in a few hours. i got the 22/28/32mm lens, will pick up the 11-22 and 56 later, but my main purpose for this camera is for photography, travel and candids and not video. thanks for this video! it's still quite a powerhouse camera for photos

For M6 I use the 3 Sigma lenses / Canons 32mm and for M50 all other Canon EF-M lenses and a Tamron 18-200mm Zoom lens. I can recommend both cameras because of formfactor and handling. I take great photos. Both xameras do have much sympathy - beeing easy to use. Ok, it's a limited System, which Canon gave up. But So you don't have only a few lenses to Chrome and that is SIMPLICITY. I love both cameras, beeibg very satisfied with. No more ratrace for the latest and greatest New cameras! Chris
I have this camera and do not really care about AF or zoom. I am also on a budget and curious if a vintage lens would work well at handling the sensor size. For example, one of the 50mm F1.4 from Nikon, Minolta, etc ? Seems they may work well as the image is basically captured more in the center of the lens, and minimze soft edges? A 50mm full frame lens on the M6 Mark II, will be very similar to an 85mm on a full frame camera. You are correct about the softness of the corners not being evident because they are cropped out. None of the vintage 50mm lenses will resolve to the full power of this sensor, even in the center at the best fstop. But that is true of many of the lenses Canon made for this camera, so it may not matter. I just bought a beautiful Canon FD f1.4 SSC lens on Ebay for less than $65 including shipping. There are lots of good vintage 50mm lenses for under $100. Sometimes you can get one on a good film camera for the same price as the lens by itself. My favorite lenses of this type are the Canon FD early models with the silver ring for the bayonet mount and the Minolta Rokkor X MC lenses. I have a problems with Nikon lenses loosing their dampening for the focus mechanism.
I've got the Canon 32 mm lens and I use it on an M50. It looks absolutely fantastic when I use it so I can only imagine on the M6 it would look even better. By the way I also use a Laoa 9 mm ultra wide no distortion lens and it's fantastic for super wide shots without the Goofy curvature distortion.

I’m really leaning on this for a compact rangefinder style in APS-C. But do you think an R8 would be any better migrating into R & later full frame? Or worth by now to just start using it?
I would only buy this camera if there are one or more lenses that will be just right for you and you need the large megapixel count. I am going to be selling all of my stuff as it just isn't the sweet spot for me.
Does either version of M6 require focus confirmation chip in EVF to use screw in adapted lenses? Using FotodioX M39-EOS-M. No focus chip like my M42-EF has. Or is there focus assistance in the EVF?
The M5 Mark II is one of the few cameras for which I have not adopted vintage lenses. I have the adapter for EOS lenses, and it works fine. You may have to ask AI this question.
@ update! I use the M6 now & it does not require the focus chip to use focus peaking but is helpful if u want focus confirmation bee o& programmable lens information. Otherwise camera has triggers without a lenses option I use the Canon EF-EF-M. Works nicely on old 90s USM.
I got into M system because of the compact size and portability. I have the M50 and combined with the awesome 22mm lens, it's an unbeatable camera for street photography. I have also got the Sigma 30mm. That combined with the older EF 55-250 and kit lens, I have everything I would ever need for photography. Now in 2025 I am looking to do some 4K video recording and that's where the M50's artificial limitations imposed by Canon are making me look for an upgrade. The crop factor and the lack of dual pixel AF in 4K is a big downside. Before discontinuing the line, Canon could have released a firmware upgrade and enabled at least DPAF and 30fps for 4K. Now here in India finding a used M6 ii is very difficult.
Perhaps you should continue to enjoy the M6 for photography and buy a camera for video that does exactly what you want and more. I am not sure one should always try and seek the perfect hybrid camera.
I bought mine new a few years ago. Personally, there is nothing the new Canon cameras offer that my M6 Mark II doesn’t already do, with the exception of 1 feature: I have a 30-minute recording limit on my M6 and the new cameras don’t have that limit. But, none of the new Canon cameras offer the massive 32.5MP sensor the M6 Mark II has. But, the new cameras are supported, whereas the EF-M system is dead.
The reason to buy the Brightin Star is for it's BOKEH, not for its critical sharpness. It probably doesn't stand up to the very demanding sensor in the M6II in that regard, but I don't think that is it's purpose. To be honest, I have not used any adapted zooms with the M6II.
If you can get it very cheap, yeah. Canon stuff is expensive feature by feature comparing with other brands. I own a m3 and it will be my back up camera when my Sony a7iii comes in.
If you want to use the same lenses, then you may consider the M6 Mark II. If you are going to sell the current kit and you are on a budget, I would consider the R50, which is a great camera for the price (see my related videos). If you move away from Canon and you are on a budget, the Lumix G9 is a great value used.
I still have it but I plan to sell it and all my lenses, etc. Not that it isn't a great camera, I just have two many different ones and this isn't on the top of my list for my specific needs.
The AF isn't that great for movement. Shutter is very loud, eletronic shutter produces artifacts at very fast speeds. But if you want a compact capable Canon there is nothing else.
Best camera, i got for 500$. Beast camera. High megapixel, uncrop 4k video. just amazing. I make a video from my trip use M6 mark ii and 7artisan lens. All in my channel.
I speed boost the Canon 100mm F2.8 L IS macro lens and the images are immaculate. I also have the 32mm EF-M mount 1.4 and, frankly it’s a tossup between the two in terms of image quality. The M6 MK ii is a gem with a good speed booster.
Certainly discontinued. The used market will likely be very active for years to come, especially as prices come down as they have with the Sigma lenses.
People take pot shots at Micro 4/3, but it is still my favorite digital platform. Two companies support it and have four years as well as tons of aftermarket vendors. The sensor size is not an issue for me at all.

I love my m6. I wish there was a decent telephoto for it though.
You may want to get an ef-m adapter. The ef 70-200 f4 is an excellent lens and not too big.

I don't know as support is very important given the incredible market for used gear.
Do you consider the M-mount Brightin Star 35mm 0.95 worthy of the M6II's sensor? How about recommending some adapted zoom lens?
