I have an m6 and I was feeling fomo because everyone has a Sony, Fuji, or Ricoh, But my jaw dropped when I saw your secret cam was a M6 and your praises for it helped me appreciate what I already have, it is a really good little camera! Although the shutter is embarrassingly loud 😂

Great choice, I really liked a lot of the EOS M cameras, and the system became a lot more attractive when Sigma released some of its DC DN lenses in the EF-M mount. Bargain so be had, and of course it can also adapt really successfully, EF and lots more. The M50 II was my favourite, especially in the white, looking like a little stormtrooper.

I had abandoned my G7x Mk iii as my travel camera ever since I picked up a M240, your enthusiasm on micro edc camera really reinvigorate me to use that camera again. And you are absolutely right, the waist level tilt screen format is totally a vibe for street; I used to think Sony and Nikon were silly for having that on their mirrorless instead of a flip, but now that I am shooting more with waist level camera, I totally get it!

I don't know...There's a VERY limited selection of native EF-M glass, and the separate EVF for the M6 often is expensive and hard to find. I would personally go with the Panasonic GX line of cameras or the Olympus E-M10 line. Lovely compact rangefinder format for the GX and both Panny and Oly have decent built in EVFs, and, most importantly of all, a MASSIVE selection of native m43 glass. The Panasonic GM5 is even more tiny, and the G100 is dirt cheap because it got so maligned. The later GX cameras also make fine 4K b-roll devices. Only real advantage of the Canon cameras is the dual pixel autofocus for video, and slightly larger APS-C sensor. By the way, you should be able to get the mk 1 LX100 for way cheaper than the $500 mentioned. I've gotten it for half that price used with patience. A steal, IMHO! Thanks for the video!

The M50 is also a nice camera, two people I know have them, including my gramps that's been a broadcast engineer for must of his life. His first digital camera used was a 1999 2.7mp D1 borrowed from the studio. The m50 is a capable little camera and they've got awesome sensors in them, you can't go wrong with the image quality. It was enough for him to stop looking for better and just use it. When you're 72, you're probably sick of carrying a brick when you're out hiking around.

@21:40 you can touch the screen on the lower right corner to punch in to manual focus! I was also annoyed at the two step process until I realized that little magnifying glass icon does the same thing! The M6 is a really fun camera and looks nice with the 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 silver color lens mounted to it. It's a really well built lens and feels good in the hand.

Very true! The magnifying glass is a great feature, but unfortunately, doesn’t work with your eye up to the EVF, which is how I like to shoot. When using the EVF there’s no direct path to punch the zoom which drives me crazy, but apparently it is available on the MKII

I think I had the small button up front programed for manual focus when I owned the M6. The M6II has 4:3 crop in camera which gives you a MFT sensor size! Also higher pixel count equates to greater dynamic range at base ISO (with equal sensor arcitecture), so I found even nicer highlight rolloff on the MKII. Also, silent shutter and fully mechanical shutter are nice to have (M6II has them). The rear screen on the M6II is literally huge. I do think overall that the M6 form factor wins the day, though. IQ difference is very small overall, but occasionally, there is a scenario on the M6II where the resolution and detail is absolutely mind-blowing.

I daily drive an original EOS M. I got it last year and it’s great. Even in lowlight it works great. I haven’t used any first party lenses yet but using my film camera lenses (Pentax 50mm f2, Industar N-61 etc) and MF TTartisan lenses like the 25mm f2 is really easy on the wallet. Crowdak is a great film simulation too, definitely my favourite
If you want focus peaking on M-bodies then you can try Magic Lantern. It’s mostly for video but the manual focus aids are really good for vintage lenses IMO. It gives you much nicer punch in/xoom focusing and then it adds focus peaking (at least to the OG M). Thanks for the video!

I've been shooting the original M since 2014, love that 22mm lens. Camera is slow, but I shot manual focus film cameras for about 50 years before that so not too big a deal. It even has face tracking that works when it feels like it. The photos from it are great, I just keep pushing the shutter button. For someone shooting for fun it's a great camera. Generally I get a few that are worth looking at. If I need more speed or different length lenses I have the EOS 40d still working. It's just more work and louder to shoot.

As a personal fun camera the M6 Mark II was the closest to perfection for me. I had to sell it (still regretting it). With the 22mm, 11-22mm (best lens in the system imho) and 55-200mm that was a fantastic setup. Same size as a m4/3 kit but with a bigger sensor and (much) better AF. You can set three separate dial to each part of the exposure triangle and has a dedicated button for back button focus. Noise levels are much better on the M6 II. And btw I never noticed the known shutter shock issue on the M6 II. So one more vote for the M6 II from me :) Love the channel!

I have the M50 II as my EDC, and decided to go with the M3 with the EVF-DC1 as my backup, exactly because of all the same limitations you mentioned on the M6. Really wanted the M6 II but that was about 2.5x the price of the M3. The one thing I really miss is the Silent Mode. I actually see the limited number of lenses as a positive so I don't get "analysis paralysis" that I get with bigger systems. And yes, that 22mm is the bees knees. For now, I have solved my GAS problems, until the rumored fixed lens medium format Fujifilm camera comes out (or not) next year.

In terms of high-quality compact cameras, I'm currently gravitating around these three: Olympus XZ-1, Nikon 1 V3, and Fujifilm X70. I like the Olympus for the CCD and the colours, the V3 because it gives me a bit more flexibility having interchangeable lenses, and the Fuji X70 because it has the largest sensor of the three and the film simulations. Special mention: the Pentax Q. It doesn't meet almost any of your criteria, but (as you know) it's a really fun camera to carry around - I can put the camera, an additional Pentax Q lens, all my Pentax Auto-110 lenses and the adapter in one small & lightweight camera bag. But if I was forced to choose only one among these right now, I'd likely pick the Fujifilm X70.
I always found the Canon EOS M system intriguing, and your video only reinforced my curiosity, hehe! Cheers! //Rick

The only cameras I have right now are Canon EOS Ms (M6 and M50), and ever since I started following your content (1-2 years ago?) I've been hoping to see you review one of them, but I assumed they were simply too modern and vanilla for you to care. I liked them a lot, but I simply didn't think of them as "fun" cameras, compared to some of the older and quirkier cameras you've reviewed. And at the same time, they weren't modern enough to have all the bells and whistles of the latest Sony or Canon R. After watching almost all of your reviews, I fell on the gear trap for a bit, obsessing about the perfect camera to buy, and which was supposed to be much cooler than my unremarkable "dead system" Canons. Luckily I got over that phase before spending money I didn't have into a new body, and I really got in tune with the "no bad cameras" philosophy which was the whole point of your gear reviews. Then you started the mystery cam thing on Instagram, and it really got me interested. This was the first time I was really expecting a particular video of yours to drop (usually I just stumble upon them some days or even weeks after you post), and it was so funny to finally discover this misterious camera you were enjoying so much was the same one I used to think of as boring! By now I've already fallen in love with my M6, but it still made me happy to see you enjoy it as well, confirming it is a genuinely good and fun camera on its own right. That being said, I never really invested in native EOS M glass: I only have the kit lens, a fully manual 50mm f1.1 Chinese lens, a vintage Canon FD 24mm f2.8 and an adapted (and gigantic) Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8 that kinda defeats the purpose of having such a small body but has served me well for shooting weddings, which is something I do from time to time (so yes, these are perfectly capable machines, apart from being fun EDC/friends and family compact cameras). Funnily enough, just this month I bought the 22mm f2 you loved so much, and got the Sigma 56mm f1.4 as an (early) Christmas gift, but I'm still expecting them in the mail because I live in Argentina. Your review made me even more eager to receive them and start having even more fun with my camera.
Thanks for what you do! Your content has really shaped the way I see gear now. I got my first DSLR when I was 13 so I basically grew up shooting, but I never had as much fun as I've been having these past two years after getting a small body with the kit zoom and two manual primes. Greetings from Buenos Aires!

Love that 22 mm have it on my original Canon M sadly my girlfriend accidentally dropped is and now the aperture blades are flying through the lens housing. To expensive to repair.. a new one would make more sense but not going since I'm rocking a Fuji X100T since 2015. Have a lot more users but still get back to that one when quickly grabbing a camera to take out with the kids/family etc. Think I would also still do that with the M and 22 if it had not been destroyed. Love the images.

Fuji XT1 broke and irrepairable. The good news was that WEX refunded me, as it was under warranty. Prices continue to rise so I decided to move away from FUJI. Looked really hard at the M6 and could not get around lack of an EVF without spending more money... You mentioned an Olympus EM5 as being a good weather sealed alternative so after investigation I was hooked on an Olympus OM-D E-M5.. Puchased one from WEX with 12 months warranty for a reasonable price. Added a Pana 20mm f1.8 Pancake lens and have a really pocketable set up. Nearly sent it back after a day as the comments about the menu are right. Quite the worst I have ever endured. Only saved by the good folks on TH-cam and I breathed a sigh of relief when the Q menu finally revealed itself from where it was hiding after a couple of stressfull days. So glad I persisted. Great sharp pictures and highly recomend the camera and lens combo. Thanks so much for your channel and the advice on affordable kit.

Great video. I think I've settled on the Fujifilm X30 as my everyday as it's got an EVF that my Fujifilm X-M1 of similar age doesn't. Hybrid autofocus (AF) system that uses both contrast and phase detection and it's ten years old! Oh, manual zoom 28-112 with OIS as well! Smaller sensor but still awesome Fuji colours and I don't print, if I wanted to I'd use my Fujifilm X-S20.

I have at least two EDC's that I carry simultaneously… Canon M5 (has the viewfinder), and Canon M50 with a wide 12mm 7Artisans for street. I carry the M50 around my neck, for what I call: "snap decisions", and the M5 with the M22 lens on it in my side-bag, for what I call: "stop decisions". The M5 has the waist level screen (like the M6) as well as the laggy shutter, and so I only use it for non-moving subjects, like portraits, or environments… The M50 on the otherhand, is waaaay faster, and can be switched on, and ready to fire in milliseconds, hence I use it mainly for street photography. The two cameras compliment each other when used in this way. Canon are stupid, they missed a great opportunity to merge the two when they upgraded the M50, which in some ways, to me, is the better of the two cameras. Strange then since the M5 was supposed to be the flagship. M5 prices used are lower than M50 prices, so that says it all. Never used the M6, but I think I'll probably go for the mk2, if I do decide to try it. Hopefully they've resolved the laggy shutter thing.... Nice upload. Keep on keeping on… ps. I love that UFO lens, despite it's shortcomings...

A pair of things about lenses:
    - Why Canon? Why don't you port your 32 and 22mm to the RF-S mount? Same lens, same optics, small size, but RF mount. Please Canon!!! Do it!
    - It would be great if someone (Megadap I'm looking at you) make a EF-M to Nikon Z adapter. The flange distance and diameter allows it, and the Canon AF firmware is already known. Megadap make the EF to Z and the Sony E to Z. It wouldn't be difficult to make the EF-M to Z.

I have gone similar route trying LX100, Coolpix A, Fuji XF10 but finally ended up with a new Ricoh GRIIIx. Some of these system cameras which are bit older (Canon M, M43) finally adds up when you add price of lens etc. and the price to value for the performance sometimes does not make sense. I have bigger cameras but for a daily carry I realized I better just look for good deal on Ricoh.

Allie! Song choice always on point (and love the bit in the end 😁) so cool that you reviewed that camera ages ago with adorama - now I wonder if I actually saw the video ages ago but never made the connection! A friend of mine had the m100 and the 22mm pancake as her edc/family cam and that started me thinking about the m line several years ago…it too had the bounceable pop up flash, but no hot shoe and optional evf but oh so compact. I almost got the m200, but then saw the m50 at a great price, and then bought the m50ii a year later. Agree that the mechanical shutter is *not* discreet at all, and I’d be fine with it if it didn’t sound like something was broken 😅. I know your priority is to keep the package small, but if you get the EF-efm adaptor it opens the system up to even more lens options if you get bored with the m-mount offerings. I got the 22mm, sigma 30mm and 56mm contemporary primes and I love them - 16mm is a TH-camr staple, but it was too big and unwieldy. Anyways, great video as always, take care!

But the bigger issue is you need to shoot wide open to render all this resolution because of diffraction, and even then is not guaranteed, don't know the math, you only have larger files but not more details. If you want small camera makes no sense to me to go beyound MFT (especially on a dead system), i'm using an EP7, but no evf, which i don't need often, i prefer the tilt screen
