Very good video man, and really this applies to any car purchases. Even a Lexus if it’s beat to hell can be a nightmare to own, and they are costly too.
Whenever dealership salesman tells me they’ve done 150 point inspection, I roll my eyes. It’s like hearing “one time at band camp”. I purchased my second Audi A3 8p after my first one totalled(structurally solid). After I bought it, I brought it back for ignition coil failure and new tires. Dealer was resistant in replacing tire. I’d told them my mechanic pointed out there’s a ridge formed on the inside of at least 2 tires and it’s due to alignment. Dealer kicked and screamed claiming the tread wear was fine. I’d try to give them the analogy of uneven wear bottom of your shoes, could not understand. Results on alignment was as suspected, it was so far off, it was at the peak tip of the valley. They replace the tires and said no more reconditioning ($1,000). Later, I paid my mechanic to replace wheel bearing(grinding) and transmission flush($1,000). Afterwards, I replace all 4 ignition coils with R8 performance grade. It cost me $200 cdn and 5 mins with my bear hands. Turned out to be plug n play item but when dealer replace 2 with 2009 ignition coils, it took them all day. This was a brand name dealer and should stick to selling their brand. I went by again for a 2014 BMW235i and they wouldn’t even take the cheap strips off the body. It was already peeling off. All they do is give it a car wash, casual glance for safety and flip it. Reconditioning is not in their vocabulary.
I was looking at 2012 X5 35i which is known to be kinda reliable in BMW world. Only had 88k miles and tested drove, scanned the vehicle twice, and visually inspected TWICE! The third visit after negotiation I took it for inspection. Guess what? Technician said I would potential need $7k to 9k to fix the car if I buy the car. $130 saved almost a grand!
Hi Mark, I am about to get a BMW 2015 X5 , GAS powered , it has around 60km on it . Is it recommended to buy the extended warranty ifI want to keep it for the next 4 years ? Saleem
Inspection... from the sellers point of view, do we expect the seller to spend a full day for him to drive to a dealership for an inspection? Or do you expect the seller to lend you the car for a full day? It's good idea to get an inspection, but the logistics don't work. If I'm the seller, I would just sell it to someone else.
Great point and for a $ 4000.00 car I would not expect it but if I was dropping 20 large I would and as a legitimate seller with nothing to hide, they should be willing to accomodate. I do.

Hi mate, I am thinking to buy a 2017 used BMW X1 28i to use as Uber car in Vancouver and drive it 7-8 hours a day. How much is this engine reliable? Thanks Matteo
My opinion for buying used BMW is CPO from a dealer. 2 - 2.5 years old car is around 55% from the original price with still pretty good remaining warranty.
I purchased a used 2013 535xi with 28k in 2016. Best decision I ever made. Decent amount of warranty left when purchased and no issues to date only general maintenance. Knock on wood.
Sorry to say this. There is no way & I mean NO way you can reduce or eliminate the risk of buying a BMW, new or old. A BMW is an expensive car/affair to maintain just like maintaining a supermodel. To reduce or eliminate the risk, just buy a Toyota or Lexus if you fancy luxuries :Period.
Should be ok for awhile but check service history and frequency of oil services. Eventually cooling system may be an issue, so keep an eye on those items, otherwise no big chronic issues.
For sure they can be but proper oil service and less over rev will reduce likeliness of rod bearing issue. Stick with a manual and avoid SMG l. Otherwise typical BMW sturdy and only typical things like cooling system. Great cars though.
BMW 3 series are truly a nightmare! There is absolutely nothing on these vehicles that simple to repair. Parts are very expensive and most repairs require an expensive professional mechanic. Moreover, these vehicle drastically depreciate within 10 years. Changing an upper radiator hose on most high performance vehicles is a 15-minute job. However the hoses on BMWs are made with plastic couplings that are held on with clips. These hoses are very difficult to remove after they've been on the vehicle for a number of years going through numerous heat cycles. The engineers BMW and all of their wisdom, designed the upper portion of the radiator made also of plastic. It's virtually impossible to remove the upper hose without cracking the plastic housing on the radiator. I'm a professional mechanic and I know how to remove a component without force. But in this instance it's unavoidable unless you're very lucky. It gets worse. You must remove the entire undercarriage and exhaust system just to change and u-joint. Yet another example of poor BMW engineering. In order to replace a starter, (or even see it for that matter) you need to basically remove the entire upper portion of the engine compartment. And I won't even get into the friquent issues with faulty sensors, relays, maf, etc. Me interiors are crap. I've seen multiple issues with the electronics harnesses shorting out. I could go on. After working on several of these vehicles, I would strongly advise that you avoid buying any used BMW. I am posting this comment in hopes that I can prevent others from experiencing these costly lessons.
if you take it to a service center do you have to call and pay first (set up appt) or can you just bring it to a bmw dealer and tell them you are interested in buying it
This was a good video. I was thinking about upgrading my 2011 328i xdrive (51K miles) and putting a navigation system in, but I’m not sure if I will now. It’s deff not simple, but I’m wondering if that would add value to the car or not. What do u think?
It’s ugly and worse on the DCT cars due to drive line shock. Some say the fix will make it good but there are some that say it’s not a real fix. Time will tell.
Hah I laugh at your face! My 2014 BMW F31 is the most reliable car ever made! I have comuted 74000 miles the last 3 years. No problems at all. But it have to be said my car is super Well taken care of. Never miss a service. Its just s myth that BMW is worse then other models.

what about a 2000 bmw 323ci coupe with 125k miles on it might cop it for about $2k
Great car just look for coolant leaks or oil leaks but for that price could be a good buy if it is a good runner
Best cars I ever owned was my e28 and my e30.
As for ///M cars reliability, is the E46 ///M3 a reliable ///M car Mark?
For sure they can be but proper oil service and less over rev will reduce likeliness of rod bearing issue. Stick with a manual and avoid SMG l. Otherwise typical BMW sturdy and only typical things like cooling system. Great cars though.

Is the E60 550i reliable as well?
Look to purchase a used BMW 335 NA what year would you recommend?
Is there anything I should look out for when buying a 2013 320i with 40000 miles ???
Guys I’m a teen looking to buy his first car and I wanted to know if you have any car suggestions that are cheap reliable and good looking
When in doubt, miata
As long as your BMW is under warranty or extended warranty it will be reliable.
Buy one with a thorough service history with all parts replaced listed
Got a merc now but loved my E36 325i only pcv valve was changed ..cheap
May get an e46 325 soon as a second car theyre fun all right
My favorite video in 2020
Cheers
Can you trust the CPO?
I hope so
if you take it to a service center do you have to call and pay first (set up appt) or can you just bring it to a bmw dealer and tell them you are interested in buying it
This was a good video. I was thinking about upgrading my 2011 328i xdrive (51K miles) and putting a navigation system in, but I’m not sure if I will now. It’s deff not simple, but I’m wondering if that would add value to the car or not. What do u think?
Thanks a lot
Good job
Thanks a lot
What are your thoughts on the M4 crank hub issue
It’s ugly and worse on the DCT cars due to drive line shock. Some say the fix will make it good but there are some that say it’s not a real fix. Time will tell.
ExoticCar PlayPlace thanks for the heads up it’s got me thinking now 👍
i am looking at a 2009-2013 750i what to do at pre inspection? i like the ph test i have strips i guess i look for acicid?
After watching your vids this 2014 328i for sale for $20k with 7k miles looks tempting. I see tons of this model for sale.
That would be a great all around type of car. Reasonably economical and somewhat reliable.
Good vid, looking to buy 440i Gran Coupe
Amazing cars. Thanks for watching.
I’ve been looking at the same car
Hah I laugh at your face! My 2014 BMW F31 is the most reliable car ever made! I have comuted 74000 miles the last 3 years. No problems at all. But it have to be said my car is super Well taken care of. Never miss a service. Its just s myth that BMW is worse then other models.
Thanks for sharing
I love you videos very in formative. As I'm doing my research I have one question. I'm finding some 06-08 with relative low miles 54k -79k but my concern is they always average out 3-6 owners and that turns me off. Do you have any advice for a case like this thx in advance.
Are you nuts? Stay away
A little off topic, but what about the i3's reliability?
I can not see the link brother
Good video, but I was looking for very BMW specific tips. Like I know the one to stay away from is the nickel plated engines. Seeing a few 745 nightmares in the past. Good general information for buying any car. Thank you.
Looking for a 535i awd . But every video I watch say the bmws got a lot of problems
B me too 😭
Simple…..know how to recognize one’s driven by heavy feet drivers and hard last minute braking. The problem BMWs are the ones that are ragged out by grown up children.
Thanks
Is the 316i a useable car 😂 2-4K with 150 000 kilometers
You bet
Well said with R I S K
Cheers
Any thoughts on the n55 ?
Great engine and its on my radar for a next purchase. Solid reliability and excellent performance.
Thanks bud cheers from Ontario
ExoticCar PlayPlace What about the n54?
Looking at 325i with 169k tomorrow. Asking 3200 & seems to be taken care of. Any tips?
Did you buy it?
