You don't get around much, do you? :-) Elvis is so, so kind and good hearted he deserves a little slack now and then---specially in rehearsal with the guys.
Love this up beat song w Elvis Presley he knew his music. Knew when something wasn't right. Love his live rehearsals a concerts Elvis was only human he wasn't no God he wasn't perfect. That's why there's prayer.
I haven't listened to 1 rehearsal I havent loved especially all the ones of Elvis goofing around & cursing. The things he never really did out in the public eye especially when younger. He started to get more comfortable on stage sometimes in shows mostly Las Vegas & let loose some words. So to me it's odd hearing it especially when he was young starting out but yet good hearing him being the human being he was.
Glad to hear the real Elvis talking, maybe if he could have really been himself, he might still be alive...we would have known he had such a serious drug problem...
I've probably heard 6 or 7 versions of Chuck Berry's Promised Land - without a doubt Presley's version is the worst. By the time Presley recorded this, the song was about 12 years old and had been a staple of the Grateful Dead (who do the DEFINITIVE cover of the song) since 1971. Berry wrote this song while in prison for violations of the Mann Act - trumped up charges against the most important figure in rock history by those who saw Berry as a threat to society for numerous reasons, primarily racial. Now Berry was the most important figure in rock history for a lot of reasons but right at the top were his lyrics - he is widely considered to be the most clever lyricist in rock history and here one needs to understand just how most of Chuck's songs revolved around lyrics that combined humor with social comment. - this song literally traces the journey of a poor (black) person from VA to CA and as far as I know it's the first song making reference to CA as 'the promised land' - a biblical reference that had shown up in literature and movies (check out the movie of the most controversial book [and movie] in American history - The Grapes of Wrath). NONE of that shows up in Elvis's cover of this song.
The Elvis studios version of "Promised Land" from 1973 is the best version. Best tempo and feel, best drummer best bass player best piano player best clavinet best guitar solos best vocals best sound. Try the Meat Loaf version if you want a good laugh.
I would rather listen to an Elvis rehearsal than anything today.
Amen!
You and me both!!!!😊

The work that Elvis put into each song into getting everything just so was second to none.
Beautiful! Love the rehearsals! Greetings from Peru!
The way Elvis says “Los Angles” has always drawn a smile from this fan. Now, it seems obvious that Elvis was in on the bit!

Many of Elvis' recordings are his jam sessions/rehearsals. Check out the X-rated version of "Stranger in My Owm Hometown".
