I got to see Tommy in Evansville In. I was so thrilled, I was so small some of the people kinda crushed me and broke my tooth. Tommy had them bring me up in front of a lot of the others. I will never forget that as long as I live. I’m 75 years old now.
Wonderful guy, sincere and honest
Tommy is alive and well, living happily in Honolulu with his daughter and granddaughter.
Alan Eichler, is Jessica's mother from Hawaii? She looks like she's got some Asian in her, reason being, I'm from Hawaii and I was just wondering. Because I know Tommy lived and performed there for many years, in fact I think, not sure, he owns or did own a night club there at one time. Thanks

Oh my gosh! Until I spotted this video I had sadly forgotten all about Tommy Sands! I was a kid back then so only remember him in the movie Babes in Toyland, at least I “think” he was in that movie, but I was so young back then. I believe he was a huge star & my mom loved him.Nice to see this video!

He was wonderful, and a natural talent from the time he was a small
child on radio, not an "Elvis clone" as many people thought. His
Capitol recordings from the 50's are terrific, most reissued on CD. He
made several films, married Nancy Sinatra and disappeared suddenly
after their divorce. Draw your own conclusions. He now lives happily
in Honolulu with his daughter from a later marriage and new granddaughter.
I'm glad to hear that all is a-okay in the winter of his life! God bless him. I'm glad he had nice things to say about Pat Boone, another fave!
I saw "Sing, Boy, Sing" on TV a long time ago. He was very good in it and I remember thinking that he was a better actor than his teen idol reputation would have suggested.

Tommy Sands was arguably the most talented of all the so-called "teen idols" that came along after Pat Boone and Elvis Presley exploded first. He was a very good actor right from the beginning of his career, he could actually play his guitar and had a super voice with great range. Plus he could even write good songs. He had it all. He was so humble in this interview.

Sands is a very humble man.
Tom Parker used aabused Elvis Presley a didn't let Elvis spread his wings to do more movies. The magic of Elvis Presley was he was born an Earth Angel. The other men weren't.
Great interview
Tom Parker was a great promoter and looked for talent all the time everywhere. There was two people that I've heard about that were like someone divine walking in a room , one was Elvis and one was Will Rogers and Will even more so. He was like divine. It's incredible how he effected people. He said he'd never met a man he didn't like or a horse he couldn't ride.

Amazing. One of my many crushes in my younger days. I remember Babes in Toyland. What a surprise when I learned Annette was born in Utica, NY. My hometown is about 30 minutes from Cooperstown (here in upstate NY) and The ⚾️ Hall of Fame. I think Utica might be about 2 hours away. Everyone fell in love with Tommy Sands, Frankie Avalon.... All the great singers and actors..... Not a big Elvis fan. I have met several actresses and actors, musicians., soap stars. Most were very down to earth and personable. I really cannot say a favorite, because everyone was exceptional in his or her own way. One person I had always wanted to meet was Bob Hope. Unfortunately I was never that fortunate. Now Gary Sinese is carrying on his tradition and I would love to meet him. I respect that man so much. Yes, I am a senior citizen. Bill Pullman is a graduate of our local college. Another graduate is Sal Palotano, of ESPN fame. John and Yoko had a home nearby, as did Bob Denver. I have heard of others, too. One evening I was at our local mall, and recognized Erin Grey (TV show Silver Spoons). We had a lengthy conversation. She was very personable and so down to earth. Remarkable lady. Many stars have vacation homes in our area. Nice country views, especially in autumn 🍁🍂🍁.
I believe Nancy sintra had a big crush on Elvis Presley. Especially when she did Speedway love scences w Elvis Presley. Who ever was blessed enough to Know Elvis Presley a was w him when he was looking into their eyes singing ,,,,had to be very Blessed knowing a kissing such an handsome Genious talented kind a humble man like Elvis Presley.

Yes. Col. Parker was Tommy's manager during his early period when he recorded for RCA, prior to Capitol. Tommy saw Elvis and brought him to Parker's attention.

Although Tommy Sands kindly mentioned Gene Austin, the first “crooner,” and credited Col. Parker with managing and promoting Gene Austin’s 1927 recording of “My Blue Heaven,” the fact is that Parker’s association with Gene Austin occurred in the mid-1950s when he (Parker) engineered Gene Austin’s comeback. Parker made up the sales figure of 86,000,000 (Sands adds another million to the figure) of Austin’s recording, when in fact they were about 200,000.

Oh, my, I'm 17 years old again! I'm 75 now and it was somewhere around 1958 or '59, and did I love Tommy Sands! More than Elvis, Pat Boone, or ANYONE else in entertainment! I haven't heard about him in all these years.....didn't know if he was even still alive! Oh my goodness, does this interview bring back memories!

Tommy Sanders, you are a lovely person and gave an honest interview, but you praised too much col Parker. maybe to you he was a good manager, but to Elvis he was a smart , even though a raw,ineducated promoter, but a bad manager. Your words about Elvis were wonderful.

Think he was born August 27th.
So his one hit sold a million in a week, the interviewer says " wow that's a lot" Tommy then explains that today there are more people and they spend more money on records so they can sell 10-12 million records of one song, " lol" but he also says back in the 20s a song sold 87million copies " far small population and far less money, plus half the population didn't own a record player.
Add to this hanging out with Elvis when he was 12 etc lol
Skip E. Lowe was quintessential cable TV. You can see how good he was.

Love your honesty and humility. This is a decent interview, in spite of the fact that affable Skip E. was a little over his head in that department. Skip did the best he could and really loved the entertainment industry. Lowe was very REAL. When he interviewed folks, you had to go in, with that in mind. God bless Mr. Sands and his talent and decentcy as a human being. To bad he ran into the Sinatra clan and Frank's irrational 'temper'. I only hope before Frank left us, that he realized that he could and should have handled Tommy in a much different way.

I stood in line behind Tommy at a bank in Hawaii Kai. He use to live there.
I met Tommy in Hawaii in 1973. Spent a few hours talking to our group and told us the reason he moved to Hawaii was because of the divorce from Nancy. Frank Sinatra basically banished him from Hollywood and Vegas because of it. Couldn't get a job anywhere, so he landed in Hawaii....
Thanks, I thought that happened between Frank and Tommy. Tommy said during an interview that Frank would rather be the head of the mob than a singer. Then he was never seen for years and years. Nancy was no great catch. Lucky for her, great makeup artists, hairstylists. She wouldn't have been known if she wasn't Frank's daughter.
Kathy Dougherty Tommy attended French classes at Univ. of Hawaii. One of my grad student classmates had him in her class. She said he behaved like just any regular student, not requiring special treatment of any kind.

I was one of the last performers on the Louisiana Hayride and I was very nervous and forgot the words thankfully it was a song I had written and nobody noticed. Just thinking about who had played there it hit me.
Tommy was 2 years younger than Elvis. Colonel Parker didn't find Elvis at 14. Tommy would have been 17-18; not 12.

I don’t blame Tommy from getting away from the Sinatra family. Frank had ties with the ‘MOB’ and other shady and questionable characters. If he felt that you crossed him or those he held dear to his heart he would turn on you and do whatever it took to destroy you. Tommy paid a high price for divorcing Nancy but I admire him for sticking to his principles. No decent upstanding person would want to live and be around those types the Sinatras had themselves surrounded by and who would spy on individuals and report back to Frank ‘The Master Puppeteer’ Sinatra 👌
Tom "got away" from the Sinatra family, but his actions toward Nancy got him blackballed by Frank, who basically killed Sands' career.
Cannot blame him and so happy he changed his lifestyle.

Tommy Sands is only 2 years younger than Elvis. So, if he was opening shows in Elvis' early career, then he must have been 17 or 18. He couldn't have been only 12 years old.
He meant that he started his career as a young boy in the south. He later toured as an opening act with Hank Williams and Eddy Arnold and recorded for RCA, before later signing with Capitol.
Yes he was asked by the interviewer a second time "You went clubbing with Elvis when you were 12 year's old" he replied " yes, as I'd been working in club's for sometime by then" he then smiles.
So Tommy must be talking about clubbing with Elvis in 1949/50, a Good 5 year's before they met, reminds me of pj probys Elvis stories about hanging out with him

I am really enjoying these video uploads of interviews conducted by Skip E. Lowe you have generously uploaded to TH-cam for others to view. He is very entertaining, well-informed and a very kind gentleman, his subjects including many who never or rarely received the long-form interview treatment (perhaps because they were not famous enough or had sufficient clout to be booked on the television shows hosted by Dick Cavett or Tom Snyder, etc.). I mean, where else can one see a Betty Garrett or Tommy Sands chat later in their careers, with that long perspective of hindsight?
What was Mr. Lowe's actual name/birth name? I assume "Skip E." is a play on "Skippy," and a nickname or pseudonym.
Were you friends with Skip E. Lowe, or how did you acquire his video collection (if you are free to divulge)? And is it true Martin Short's character of "Jiminy Glick" is based on M,. Lowe? If so, as with most impersonations, it is at least slightly exaggerated (but not much, I must say from observation).
Also, did Mr. Lowe ever host a show which appeared on a non-cable access broadcast television channel, perhaps on KTLA or one of the long-surviving Los Angeles TV stations?
Other than his somewhat strange physical appearance (for an older male), Mr. Lowe seemed an amiable man who asked generally straightforward, albeit more insightful, questions. And his enthusiasm for and knowledge of Hollywood was akin to TCM's Robert Osborne. Mr. Lowe's persona, by today's standards, wouldn't cause anyone to bat an eyelash. But I could see, in the 1960s or '70s, even into the '80s, such a personality inviting some kidding and insults by comics (similar to what Liberace received). I mean, Johnny Carson used to make jokes about even Wayne Newton's sexual orientation. So I could only imagine what treatment Skip E. Lowe must have received.
I only wish my music career had made me successful enough to have been interviewed by Mr. Lowe. I think I would have enjoyed the experience. I always enjoying chatting with friendly, upbeat people who make greater use of the brain they are given, and especially persons who are clever enough to "know where the [proverbial] bodies are buried." I'll bet Mr. Lowe would have made a fascinating interview subject himself, that he was a guy who had some stories to tell. Did he ever write a memoir?

Perhaps a little. I wonder if Wink is still alive. My favorite episodes were when Thom McKee (and his beautiful wife Jenny) were on and Thom amassed the amount of $312,700 and many cars, trips, etc. Such a humble and beautiful couple. I certainly hope they remained together. ❤🙏🙏🙏❤

As I recall, Frank Sinatra destroyed Tommy Sands' career because Tommy refused to do a charity show that Frank wanted him to do. I'm sure his divorce from his Nancy didn't help either.

I was Tommy's last manager and he has a full head of hair. He continues to swear that Sinatra did nothing to harm him or his career, and is living in Honolulu now with his daughter and granddaughter.

Seeker of Truth What killed TS and FS relationship was Tommy saying Frank would rather be the head of the Mafia instead of a singer. In an interview after Frank died she stated she could not remember what Tommy had said about her father. Right. She also stated she would never listen to her father's songs again. Around 3 yrs later she put out a medly of her father's songs for sale. How soon they change when it comes to $'s. She road on her father's coat tails, hardly a singer.
