We are fortunate indeed that the film crew was there recording this ''rehearsal''. To see his ''method'' over the course of the first part of the TTWII documentary (of his preparation for and return to Vegas) is highly instructive. Professionals study this like it is ''the'' way to do it. Right down to being fully dressed for the occasion, giving his all, even dancing, keeping it loose as he develops rapport with his band. Man, he was the Bull of the Woods. I bet those top of the line musicians behind him were PETRIFIED of blowing it in front of Elvis Presley, but when it works and really comes together (this is as good as the studio version, maybe better), then the payoff is huge. He lifts them to to where they play at the peak of their ability. His genius as a band leader rarely gets mentioned

He was his own producer of his records throughout the biggest part of his serious career. He was an arranger. He was the conductor of his band and orchestra. He was the big attraction of his show and carried that load. 2 or 3 shows a day. 4 to 5 weeks in a row. Nobody could do all that but Elvis. It killed him in the end. Think August 1975. That is the turning point.

I was there for most of the day and played with Lisa Marie, I remember Elvis chasing us both and I played in her room and in Elvis’ bathroom with her dolls and her dogs.
