  • I cleaned the inside of the starter cover. Starter clutch and idler / limiter gear. But the starter gear won't engage the idler gear firmly enough. It made a grinding sound as the starter bounced on the idler gear

    For any kind of starter issues, everything has always pointed down to the starter clutch area. When somebody says your starter clutch is bad, don’t just go for that. This guy is in the right place, check the holes where the idler gear pin sits into on the bike side and on the outer cover side. If they are sloppy at all, it allows the gear to bend and bind when it’s trying to turn over. I went through a grueling eight or nine months of narrowing everything down to just that problem. $125 of all used parts which were off of a new motor from a junkyard solve my issue. No more hard starts or gear binding. Have fun with it and good luck guys. Definitely check yours, it’s a simple process, Keep the bolts in order from where they come out because some are longer and some are shorter. It will save you some time

      I just wanted to reiterate that I was almost ready to go for a new wiring harness, the only thing I didn’t check was the idler gear or after etc. They have wave washes with them also they keep them specifically in place. Please like and share, I don’t want any kind of fame for this but I do want to help everybody out because this is such a common problem and unless people hear what I have to say, they’re going to go through all the shit I went through and waste a lot of money and time. One good thing came out of it, I know a lot more about the bike and everything else I replaced is brand new lol. Let me know how you guys do

    It's the glue that hold the magnets has come loose . The magnet fragment jam the starter when hot .

    Does anyone know does that assembly has oil in it?

    • @rickgidney1005
      @rickgidney1005 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you ride, oil gets in there somehow and gets whipped around, the only thing that makes sense is that there are some kind of drain hole that it drops back into the crank case

      ReggieTaylor ReggieTaylor .... I read that some parts on 2004 are different from 2003. I’m guessing my bike might have been a late year model 2003. But all those parts are factory. That’s confirmed by the starter shaft being 2004 and not 2003
