I’ve been driving for decades but had never changed a spark plug. Your video made it so easy!
Thank you Devon for watching and sharing the kind words. We really do appreciate it and thankful the video empowered you to knock it out. Cheers!
Hey there guys. I am waiting for my Santa Fe 2022 Calligraphy and I thoroughly watch every video you make about this car. Thank you!
Hi Nikita. Thank you so much for watching and sharing with us. We really appreciate that as well as you watching all of our Santa Fe content. Be sure to come back and let us know when your 22 comes in. We're excited for you!
@@SpiritedWrenchersHello, finally got my Santa Fe. Wanted to ask, when i accelerate fast i get a strange smell in my car, like something burned. Did you experience something similar? Thanks!
Another great maintenance video Dana. Thanks for walking through these steps with all the Santa Fe owners. Certainly can be added to the money saving services you can do at home!
Thank you as always for continuing to follow along and share the kind words. Much appreciated.
Thanks so much for the video. Can you please confirm the torque suggestions for the plug and coil pack. It appears that the recommendations that you are using / suggesting are 2x higher than other vehicles with aluminum heads.
Hi Charlie, thank you so much for calling this out. I know that I did my research prior to doing this job, and that I referenced a plethora of online Kia and Hyundai forums. Looking at the Google AI generated answer, you are correct that the ft-lb is no more than 14-20, which makes it possible that I confused my unit of measurement while speaking in the video. We've put over 10k miles on these spark plugs since the job and have experienced no issues or problems with the vehicle. Upon doing more research, until we have a chance to discuss this with Hyundai as well as getting access to a service manual online I would recommend following the guidance provided by NGK and do a 1/2-2/3 turn beyond finger tight. Thank you for your attention to detail and patience; more to come!
Very helpful! Would 2022 non-turbo gdi 2.5 engine have the same process?
Hello and thanks for watching! Since we don't need to move any of the turbo components to access the ignition coils or plugs, I want to say yes since the overall process would be the same (remove cover, remove ignition coil, remove plug, inspect, install new plug, reinstall ignition coil, repeat, reinstall cover). But, without actually getting our hands under the hood of a 2.5 naturally aspirated I can't say for certain that it's the exact same process. Key places that will likely be different in the NA engine may be a slightly different coil pack and plug used. It did come to our attention that the torque settings we cited for the plugs are likely incorrect, so we recommend you follow NGK's guidelines and get your plugs finger tight then turn 1/2-2/3 additional to tighten to specification. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!
@ wow thanks so much! Such dedication to respond to all questions!
Great video, I already ordered the sparkplugs and I am changing the plugs next week.
Hi Jose. Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words. We greatly appreciate it. Good luck with your project. Come back and let us know how it went if you don't mind. Cheers!
@@SpiritedWrenchers I changed the spark plugs and it was pretty easy. Thanks again for the great video.
@@rush4mtb1 that is fantastic. Congrats on knocking that out. We're glad we were able to help you out with this episode. Stay safe out there!
Don't know if I'll ever get around to personally changing the 4 plugs in my 2.5L Turbo, 2022 Santa Fe Limited, but after watching this video I now know the procedure very well. As an older guy who cut his car repair teeth going back to v-8 engines and 4 barrel carbs, I knew all of the steps presented. As you were about to thread the plugs, I was looking for the anti-seize step and was so glad you explained why it wasn't needed due to the coating on the new plug's threads. FYI--the service manager at my local Hyundai dealer said it's ok to use 0w20 synthetic oil in place of the 0w30 oil as shown in your video on the filler cap. The service papers after my complimentary oil changes at that dealership show 0w30 synthetic Penzoil . Question: why didn't Hyundai have the filler cap accessible without having to remove that scrawny engine cover? On some of Hyundai's other 4 cylinder engines, the oil filler cap is accessible without needing to remove the cover. Keep up the informative videos.
Thank you, Dave, for watching and sharing all of that with us and the community. We really appreciate it. Regarding the cap and accessibility., these are the questions that make us go Hmmmm. Lol. Stay safe out there, and thanks again.
Another great tutorial! Dana makes it look easy!😎
Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it. She definitely does a great job at these.
Can you keep posting for santa fe! I want to see you doing airflow sensor cleaning as well!
Hi Mr. Jin; thanks for watching and suggesting this! You've reminded me that its a service that should be done periodically, and we happen to have a can of MAF cleaner out in the shop! Keep posted, take care and stay safe!
@SpiritedWrenchers can you clean something else as well? Like throttle body or other sensors that needed to clean periodically? Thank you!
Do you have to gap the spark plugs or are they pre gapped ?
Hi Fernando. Thanks for watching. We appreciate it. No gapping needed. They're ready to be installed out of the box. Hope that helps. Stay safe out there!
A spark plug should always be checked for a proper gap.
@@MR666iceman666 Thank you for sharing with the community and watching. We appreciate it.
Can you show how to change coolant on hyunday santafe 2022
@deleonjacob2834 hi. Thank you for watching and asking. We're not quite there for the maintenance interval for flushing ours yet, but it will be something we'll consider when we reach that point.
Can you do a video on transmission fluid change on the Santa Fe?
Hello! Thanks for watching and asking! We love creating content that people need and really helps others. Before we perform any DIY maintenance, we always have a conversation with our local dealership service department to confirm that it won't impact the factory or extended before we perform it. The maintenance interval in the owner's manual for our 8DCT has us following a fluid change every 56k miles as we do fall. under the conditions for "severe" usage. We did confirm with our dealer that currently, this service is quoted to us at USD$280+taxes and per the service manager that if we perform the service ourselves at home that it will void the warranty on the transmission. With the recall and active service bulletin on the 8DCT, this is something that we chose to pay the dealer to perform and won't be putting out a video content on until we are well out of factory and extended warranty (which will likely be many years). Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!
Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching and sharing the kind words. We greatly appreciate it. Stay safe out there!
Did you remove the crossbars of your santa fe?
Hi Anirah. Thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. We remove the bars and store them when they are not needed. Helps reduce wind noise. Hope that helps.
Great job Dana! Very detailed video. What brand is that torque wrench are you guys using?
Thank you Matt for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it. It's an AC Delco. Link is in the description. That was the best one for the price that we could find when shopping for a smaller one. Hope that helps.
No need to gap plugs..??
Hi John, thanks for watching and asking! Because we paid the extra expense of purchasing these plugs from our local dealer to prevent voiding our warranty, I got to ask that question directly to Hyundai! I was told that no, there is no need to gap the plugs purchased from them, especially since they are an upgraded NGK iridium plug to start with. Testing the gap would be fine, but adjusting the gap is ill-advised and could actually harm the tips. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!
Awesome video. Thanks. The title needs fixed (2223 part)
Hi Disgruntled. Thank you very much for watching, sharing the kind words, and the title mishap (or was it. Maybe we're so far ahead of everyone else on maintenance tips for 200 years from now 🤣). That would truly be green content. Seriously though, we thank you. Cheers!
Well poop, I did not know spark plugs needed to be changed after 48,000 miles. My Santa Fe has 74,000 miles and have yet to change them. I guess I better get to changing them
LOL. Yeap and based on the way ours looked, I'm sure yours are pretty toasty now. Hahahah. Thanks for watching and sharing. We really appreciate it!
Coatings be darned, I still don't like dropping in a plug without a touch of anti-seize
LOL. Thanks for watching and sharing the funny words Joe. We greatly appreciate the laugh. Nothing wrong with a little extra caution. Cheers!
Be very careful with the torque on the coil bolts, they are very fragile, I snapped mine while using a torque wrench (Most likely faulty calibration). To anyone that ends up doing the same the replacement can be bought from Hyundai for like $1 but they will try to sell you the whole coil pack. You can get a set of from auto zone, the spec is M6 x 7.0 x 25mm
Hi tminust, thanks for watching and especially for calling this out for others! I can see how that might be a problem given their size and my history of breaking bolts. And now I need to go look up torque wrench calibration centers in our area.....
Take care and stay safe!
At least one injector has went bad on my 23 limited at 27k miles :/
Hello, and while I hit the like button on your comment, we certainly do not like that this has happened to you! This is definitely a warranty issue on the part of Hyundai! While we expect every new vehicle to roll off the factory floor in perfect condition, that doesn't always happen. This is why every single make and model of new car, SUV, and truck comes with a factory warranty. Sometimes the part delivered to the factory is bad, and sometimes the factory installation is bad. We hope that your dealership is able to make it right and fast!!! Take care and stay safe!
Thanks for watching. Part number and links to the tools used in this job are listed in the description.

Thank you Leo. Much appreciated!
