I just changed the plugs on my 2013 Elantra for the first time after I got a "cylinder 3 misfire" code. I had 136,000 miles on the factory plugs. After changing the plugs and clearing the code, I still got a "cylinder 3 misfire" code. I cleared the code again and swapped the coil packs on 2 and 3. Now I was getting a "cylinder 2 misfire" code which proved that the ignition coil was bad. This easy troubleshooting tip saved me a lot of money. The new ignition coil was around $100.
I agree with the comment about setting cold cranking amps. The battery says 640 CCA so when the screen of your tester says 340A CCA, use the up and down arrows to change that value to 640.
I did after someone commented and y’all are 100% correct. I skipped that step. Appreciate the info. This is definitely a team effort and we need all the help we can get.
Have learned pretty much every basic to intermediate repair through TH-cam and appreciate the shit folk like y’all put out. Clear and to the point. Thank y’all
How tight would you say is tight enough? At what point would you recommend to stop putting tension into it? I’m still slightly new to doing my own repairs so any advice is appreciated. Amazing what some effort will do
If you are putting spark plugs in an aluminum head, you don’t want to over tighten. Hard to explain over text. Maybe get a torque wrench and practice a few of the torque specs to get a feel for it.
@@SwampBoysGarageok I gotcha. I’m thinking to the point right where it almost feels like it’s a soft hug and you can tell some tension is there. Appreciate y’all again it’s coming up in that time and I’m thinking within the next two weeks I’ll take my crack at it. Thank you guys again
Great how to video guys, great job on showing how easy and doable this kind of maintenance is, anybody can provide some basic maintenance on their vehicles nowadays, thank you guys for doing such an extraordinary job. Keep up the great work.
Great 'How To' video for folks to learn from guys! Topdon has some solid products too! I've got a boost pack and charger which both have served me well!
If you dont have that spark plug socket with the rubber boot, I have used a rubber fuel line hose. Sometimes those rubber boots stay on the spark plug and not in the socket which is fun. Thats a great first car too !
That was cool to change the spark plugs and air filter for your sister and I didn't know that there was another air filter behind the grove box and I learned something new. 🙃 Great video like always!😎👍🏻
I believe they ran this model (refreshed like you have) right to the 2020 model year with apparently the iVT being added halfway through the last year. When I was "humming" on the CVT the salesperson said that he did not notice the change and had to be told it was the CVT in a new models rolling in. Later I found out the iVT is actually a much better design (more expensive but worth it).
same car had a P301 misfire code the low preforming battery fix the problem, good to watch battery health because it effects the injectors, coils, fuel pressure etc.
i have my 2013 elantra 10 years never a MIL light then it develpoed a very slight engine vibrationat at idle drove for a couple weeks then the light came on. never figured the battery , did check voltage it was 12.1 a little low, but the car ran and started no problem. so i thought the p0301was spark plug or coil issue purchesed these parts then read online that it could be a under preforming battery. bought a new battery all good that was the misfire problem. so now i have all these parts. guess i will install the plugs and the injector anyway. thays my sob story.
Very good job on the video. The only thing wrong i saw was the changing of the cabin filter. You did not say which way the air flow arrows went up or down on the filter before installation. Your dad was pretty happy you helped i am sure.
So glad we could help you out. The fuel cleaner helps clean the fuel injectors so they spray fuel correctly and not get clogged up and spray a bad pattern.
Actually to save even more money in the long run go with the Canyon reasonable air filter in cabin filter I did that a while back for my kia soul and I really like it
Cold Cranking Amps need to be change to what it says on the battery or else the test won't be accurate. Setting the CCA to a lower number lowers to test standards to a smaller battery. It's one of the few instructions that are worth following lol.
Just be careful with oil change. Do not try safe money on oil change. These cars have bad motor if you fail use right oil and will cost you big $$$$ to fix.i work with kia dealer Have seen all.
Nothing wrong with an informative video doing a basic tuneup. So many don't realize how much they could actually do if they would just try.
It’s hard to believe what dealers charge for such an easy job.

That’s great to hear. A little bit of smart troubleshooting saves a lot of money.
Such a great video! Thank you guys so much, I was going to pay for a tune up until I saw how doable it is
Thank you! I'm glad our video helped!!

I didn’t even know my car had a cabin filter. I took that thing out and it was like a solid block of dust. Thanks for the help!
Haha. Glad we could help you. Appreciate the comment.
Just hit 100k on my Elantra, using this video this weekend 👍🏻💪🏻
Awesome. We love comments like this.

Really helpful video ! Did all this along with an oil change and my Elantra appreciated it 😅
Glad it helped you. That makes us happy.

Thank you. You can save a lot of money by doing simple maintenance like that. Appreciate your support as always

Thank you. Yes they make great products.
I just brought a 2019 Hyundai Elantra I wanna see more videos on how to fix easy thing in the engine thanks
Simple, basic but very informative. Will definitely be keeping this one nearby when working on the Elantra. Thanks. Not all of us are car smart.
Appreciate you

Congratulations sister on your new ride
This is a really informative video. Thanks guys!

Thank you sir. I’m learning too. Didn’t know either.
@@SwampBoysGarage your welcome,😊 and we can always learn something new everyday.🙃👍🏻

I'm not a big fan of the stp filters but some times you have to work with what you have. Good thing looking out and helping your sister.

Wow... your changing the cabin filter...
You must really love your sister... lol..
Haha. I’m hoping she gives me a ride to school so I don’t have to ride the bus anymore.

Thank you for the comment. Air flow goes down.
Good to see you are doing regular maintenance. I wonder what the next project is going to be??? 🤔
Next video will be Saturday morning
Can you do a video on how to change the serpentine belt the 2017 Elantra.
Good idea. We need to do that
Great video, guys! I have absolutely ZERO automotive knowledge and this is very helpful! What does the fuel system cleaner do exactly?
So glad we could help you out. The fuel cleaner helps clean the fuel injectors so they spray fuel correctly and not get clogged up and spray a bad pattern.
Thank you for this. I am about to hit 100,000 so I will do this
Awesome
As always brother love the channel. God bless
Thank you so much

Didn’t know about that. I’ll use that on my Camry next week.
@@SwampBoysGarage K&N reusable i mean. U get a oiland cleaning kit for them

You are 100% right. We did it right off camera and when we filmed we forgot to change it.
I hope someone sees this and it convinces them to do their own tuneup and save themself’s money.
I hope so too.
So you dont have to gap them? Is that for all spark plugs or just those iridiums?
They are preset but definitely check them
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you.
Thank you so much
Glad the video helped
Was this done with a 3/8 ratchet? That’s all I have and would prefer not having to buy another ratchet or torque wrench
Yes you can do it all with a 3/8” ratchet
How do you tight the spare plug by using regular ratchet ?
You’ll need to lower the spark plug down hole gently to not close the gap up then tighten with regular socket
Might wanna retest it with the right Cold cranking amps on the tester. In the video you set it on 340 cca. So is the test even right?
I will check that out today. Appreciate you letting me know
GROOVY!
Whats the difference between bosch spark 9625 and 9673?
I have elanta 2019 sport, which one should I use?
And Amazon says either of these won’t fit for elantra 2019. What’s your view on that?
I used the 9625 in my Elantra but yours is different because you have the sport model with turbo. I think you need NGK 97080 or NGK YR6NI3325
Do you use the Lucas before or after fill up?
Put the Lucas in right before filling up while at the gas station so the gas will help mix it in the tank.
I dont know what Im doing wrong but I just cant get my spark plug out is there a trick i dont know about
Do you have it unscrewed all the way? Are you using the socket with the rubber grommet in it like we are in video to help pull it up?
Transmission fluid change
We need to do that
Good job😂
Thank you
Just be careful with oil change. Do not try safe money on oil change.
These cars have bad motor if you fail use right oil and will cost you big
$$$$ to fix.i work with kia dealer
