For me, white is fresh and airy and clean. It allows all of the colours I bring in with intention to pop and claim all of the attention and hold that i want them to rather than a cluttered collage of colour and things everywhere. I don’t feel relieved when I put something colourful away, but am easily overwhelmed by too many colours or too many items in colours so I absolutely understand the relief that comes with removing and focusing attention (or not) where you want it.

I discovered the Finnish Design Store a couple of years ago when I was looking for a lamp for our home. I bought a Vico Magistretti Atollo lamp and had it shipped to Australia. It was expensive, but it's beautiful. Your apartment is gorgeous and so peaceful. Thank you for your videos. Painting my walls white has been the best decor decision I made. Takes out the stress to match and coordinate colors. Coupled with 19th century oak furniture, brass accessories, giant wool carpets (floral motif) and a few chosen paintings, its a timeless and stress free environment. People either love it or hate it. People have come into my home and told me my walls need color. My sister in law brought 2 poinsetta plants during Christmas because I “need something in the window” Why do people feel they need to help you with decorating when your style is not their style? 🤷♀️
I do see a lot of white in videos. I love being a minimalist but I have pale green walls in my public rooms and the bedrooms are pale blue. Cool colors are restful and easy on the eyes.
I laughed when I read the title of this video. White is calming and it doesn’t compete with what is on or around it. White allows for negative space to be present while show casing positive space. That’s why so many restaurants serve food on white plates. On white plates the color and texture of food is front and center. We painted the inside of our house white three years ago and I love it. For the first time in 20 years I truly love my home. It’s calm and restful. Just with some paint the “vibe” of our home changed.
This all makes perfect sense. In the states, Minimalist colors are pale and neutral. Whites,creams,grays, blues, tans etc... My walls are shades of tan with cream trim and doors. My colors are all natured inspired. Cream, browns, tans, with a small amount of pale blue/grays. It allows my artwork and pictures, on the walls, to be seen. I don't have "nick nacks", vases, etc. I hate the dust in the Midwest.

I am half danish so I guess I naturally gravitate to white too😊 I painted my entire house house white and my old kitchen cabinets a pale blue/green in December. Thank goodness because I would have gone insane during lock down with the previous owners colour choices of nacho cheese yellow, red and smurf blue. I live in Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦 and winter is mostly over cast and rain. Lots of rain. I love my white but I like pops of colour too which I change seasonly. I love your new furniture choices and maybe when I get to down size after my daughter finishes school and moves out I will invest in some designer pieces. I love your channel and I wish you well.

White to me makes me feel at peace and feel like heaven. Light colors like white, grey makes everything feel so calm and makes a home very bright. I live off the Sun’s energy and a room being bright is beautiful and gives me energy and so my mind feels stress free. Being minimal is more my style as I grow up.
I love your new additions. My husband's best friend is from Tampere in Finland, and he spends every summer in Finland. We were supposed to visit him there this past summer, and also visit Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Love this! I like neutral colors too bc as an HSP I can get overwhelmed by too much visual input coming in. I love color but I want my home to be a place to rest my sensitive nervous system. Watching your videos over the past couple of years has helped me learn how to create that sense of calm and ease in my home. Now people remark about how peaceful my home feels. My walls are mostly white because it’s practical- I have 3 kids and it’s easiest and very cost effective to purchase large bucket of white paint to go over handprints and stains. I don’t have to paint the whole wall every time they need quick freshen up :) Hope you are feeling well, lots of love xx
I love white! I work in a very visual and tactile job, so when I come home, I need peace, calm and zen. Having said that, my curtains are a small but fun botanical print and I do like chandeliers. I love the way they sparkle!

(I love the snow blanket in Winter landscapes) The Alvar Aalto table is so beautiful! So is the desk. And your end tables in front of the couch. I love the repetition of design. Calm and serene.

Lovely video. I'm also a visual worker (graphic designer + creative director), and I also prefer to dress and keep a home in monochrome. I think when you're highly sensitive to color and harmony, a colorful home can be laborious and a little stressful. Anytime you move a piece around, or introduce something new, there's the huge puzzle of matching it to all your existing pieces (and if it doesn't match at all-that's stressful!). Keeping things monochrome means that everything is always very easily harmonious, so we can keep the tough color-matching for work.
The white look is very calming for me. I strive to add texture over colour in my home. Miss Penny is all the colour you need with her cool calico coat and green eyes! Hope you are doing well in 2021!
I know it's more like a personal opinion, but my idea of minimalism is wood color (light or darker), beige (instead of white), and gray is the best mix. It creates warm color, and the touch of gray could add a little blue to the yellowish tone to balance it.
I completely agree with your theory. I have been living in Europe 30 years now but Iam originaly from East Africa where we use colorfull colors. I came across all about Scandinavian decor and design couples of years ago via TH-cam and magazines and i just love it. It's clear, calm, and hygge. White and natural colors invites you to have a clear vision for creating, getting rid off all kids of things that can pollute you of thinking clear and ect.. My appartement has changed à lot over the past years, it's cosy, white and calm with a touch of green plants and if i feel like adding to a bit of color, it could be a cushion or a bouquet, something that is easy to remove.
I feel like white walls are like a white board. You can add something to make it more interesting, but you can very easily go back to a white sheet. ☁️

My whole house is varying shades of white and grey (depending on the brightness of the rooms, pure white can sometimes be a bit dazzling 😂). I totally agree much more calming and relaxing. I love the tables you chose. Hope you are feeling well 😊

Love, love, love your new tables, Benita, and happy to see you in good shape! ♥ For me white, pale wood tones, golden tones and plants are all "neutrals", and those are the only things I have around my house. Sometimes during Spring or Fall I feel like adding a touch of color; I usually go with mustard yellow since it's so close to gold but just like you, it never stays for long. Strangely my home isn't what I would describe "minimalistic"; there's a ton of books, candles, pillows, throws, frames, prints, trinkets and what else, but because the color scheme is minimal, it's very airy and cozy.

Lovely new additions 😍😍. I love lots of natural light and white walls certainly brighten up your home during the winter months. Lived in South Africa and our whole house was white with floor to ceiling windows, it was wonderful 👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Now I live in Portugal and one of the first things we did in our new home was rip off all the wallpaper and paint the bedrooms white, the rest thankfully was already white. It made such a difference!🥰🥰🥰🥰
Listening to you is so interesting. You say you are distracted by color; you made me realize I am distracted by complex shapes. There are a lot of geometrical shapes in my house, perfect squares and circles. I wouldn’t choose a lot of your furniture for myself because it’s too much visually for me... all those compound curves and details. I like those simple sharp edges! Most of the things I own are either black, white, greys or wood. I like to use splashes of bright colors (cushions, paintings, etc.). To me, my home is very soothing. To each her own! Thanks.

I find myself in everything you said, I live in Bulgaria and we Thank God have good light all year long, but still I keep it white and I love the way it plays with the day light. For me nothing is better than white and the only pops of colour I have ( and not for long) are black and wood. Loved the video, wish you healthy and happy life 🌷
Darker colors mixed with some lighter colors calm me... Your home is beautiful, however I need more color in my life... I am going towards being more intentional, so my bedroom is white now, however I like dark and light colors in most of my rooms... Dark woods and colors are in my blood... I add color, so that my family blends right in with colors like us... The kitchen in my last apartment was white and I did love it... To much of the color white is boring for me... When I had a white kitchen, I was motivated to clean even more.... Do what makes you feel comfortable... Great job on your video, you inspire others...

I find you're home very calming. We share the same view of minimalism. I want alot less than I have right now but want comfort too. I have found an ivory colour that fits perfectly in my home so it's the new go to paint colour for every room. Your home suits you and what you need as mine suits me. That's all the matters. My walls will never be bare lol. I have all of my dad's paintings plus friends of the family's artwork on my walls. At some point, more of my artwork will be up there too. The green glass on your livingroom stool is one of my favourite colours. I have one too. Love what you do💗
When I moved into my apartment 7 years ago, the walls were an off white, but looked like a tired, dark cream. I thought of you and your space. I chose Benjamin Moore's Designer White to paint the walls and it makes a huge difference in how much lighter it makes the space. Now the superintendent in our building uses that color for all the apartments when the time comes to repaint.

Oh, dust is the worst! We ge lots of pollen dust in spring and it gets EVERYWHERE!
I am a visual merchandiser for a furniture store and that is part of a reason why I enjoy a monotone, calm environment at home, too.

I like the new additions to your apartment. The wood adds some texture and warmth. I've been a minimalist for all of my adult life and choose colours that are pale and calming for my home. Benita, I've watched your videos so many times, and one of the things I love, or should I say two, are Mini and Bonus. I had three cats for 18 years and they have all left me this past year. I miss them terribly. I'll adopt at least one more someday, but for now, your fur babies bring me joy.

I love your new furniture. I've always been a minimalist but you inspired me to really go through my drawers and closets and rid myself of objects and clothing I don't use and wear. Love, love, love your new tables, Benita, and happy to see you in good shape! ♥ For me white, pale wood tones, golden tones and plants are all "neutrals", and those are the only things I have around my house. Sometimes during Spring or Fall I feel like adding a touch of color; I usually go with mustard yellow since it's so close to gold but just like you, it never stays for long. Strangely my home isn't what I would describe "minimalistic"; there's a ton of books, candles, pillows, throws, frames, prints, trinkets and what else, but because the color scheme is minimal, it's very airy and cozy.

Lovely new additions 😍😍. I love lots of natural light and white walls certainly brighten up your home during the winter months. Lived in South Africa and our whole house was white with floor to ceiling windows, it was wonderful 👏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Now I live in Portugal and one of the first things we did in our new home was rip off all the wallpaper and paint the bedrooms white, the rest thankfully was already white. It made such a difference!🥰🥰🥰🥰

Listening to you is so interesting. You say you are distracted by color; you made me realize I am distracted by complex shapes. There are a lot of geometrical shapes in my house, perfect squares and circles. I wouldn’t choose a lot of your furniture for myself because it’s too much visually for me... all those compound curves and details. I like those simple sharp edges! Most of the things I own are either black, white, greys or wood. I like to use splashes of bright colors (cushions, paintings, etc.). To me, my home is very soothing. To each her own! Thanks.

I find myself in everything you said, I live in Bulgaria and we Thank God have good light all year long, but still I keep it white and I love the way it plays with the day light. Darker colors mixed with some lighter colors calm me... Your home is beautiful, however I need more color in my life... I am going towards being more intentional, so my bedroom is white now, however I like dark and light colors in most of my rooms... Dark woods and colors are in my blood... I add color, so that my family blends right in with colors like us... The kitchen in my last apartment was white and I did love it... To much of the color white is boring for me... When I had a white kitchen, I was motivated to clean even more.... Do what makes you feel comfortable... Great job on your video, you inspire others...

I find you're home very calming. We share the same view of minimalism. I want alot less than I have right now but want comfort too. I have found an ivory colour that fits perfectly in my home so it's the new go to paint colour for every room. Your home suits you and what you need as mine suits me. That's all the matters. My walls will never be bare lol. I have all of my dad's paintings plus friends of the family's artwork on my walls. At some point, more of my artwork will be up there too. The green glass on your livingroom stool is one of my favourite colours. I have one too. Love what you do💗

When I moved into my apartment 7 years ago, the walls were an off white, but looked like a tired, dark cream. I thought of you and your space. I chose Benjamin Moore's Designer White to paint the walls and it makes a huge difference in how much lighter it makes the space. Now the superintendent in our building uses that color for all the apartments when the time comes to repaint.
White and off white are very different! I always go for an untinted white which works best for me 😊
