    Border View Farms is a mid sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. We raise corn, soybeans, and wheat on a little over 3,000 acres.
    My name is Nathan. I run this channel and farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. I get questions about how and why we do things on the farm frequently, even from my own family members, so to help explain things it's easier to just show you. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture in general as well as dispel some of the common misconceptions.
    I hope you enjoy my content and please ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can.
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos.
    You can reach me through messages on Facebook or Instagram @borderviewfarms or by email bakernth@gmail.com. Please don't call my parents house!

    yep... it was wrong.. remove the outer snap ring, tap the rod guide in about 1.5" to reveal the inner groove, then insert the orange plastic filler ring... make the sharper edge toward the pressure side of cylinder... also , extend the rod almost completely out before tapping the rod guide in, or it can hydraulically lock up on you.

    That was a very instructive tutorial on fixing hydraulic cylinder seals. I have one leaking cylinder, and you have convinced me to take it to the dealer!

    Piston is the word you were looking for. A trick for the wiper seals, soak them in hot water to make them pliable.

    ram, rod guide, piston.... going back together is the tough part, when u get to that internal snap ring.. trust me haha

    Hi Nathan!
    I like working on hydraulic cyls., and one of the FIRST things you learn is, if you need to tap near the ram or barrel, anything, USE A BRASS DRIFT!... A nick on the ram or inside of the barrel,.... and it may be "game" over!!!
    I buy mine from Snap-On, but I am certain you can find them; or a metal supplier can get you some brass stock and you can make them.
    Best Wishes, AND GOD BLESS OUR FARMERS!
    Gary

    Good job with the teaching moment, my brother who is a 40 year JD mechanic helped me do a loader cylinder which is a heavy project in its self. Certainly tested our patience.

    I was screeming "stoooop" the first attempts to open the cylinder, I had a cruell time when I did my first one, had to ask the Deere dealer and even the mechanics didn't know until the lady from the desk came and told me how

    Really good job on explaining the cylinder repair. What I learned from it is to take them to a hydraulic shop. So - treat yourself to a new pair of pants. Looks like you need those.

    You can wrap something around the rod or take two pieces of wood and use a hydraulic press as a vise.

    • @deerefredj5975
      @deerefredj5975 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes a press makes a great vice for large objects like a cylinder :)

    Hey there Nathan and Brock, I hope you're all well and good!
    Everyone has a "first time" and fortunately yours wasn't expensive, as they are many times.
    I know that you've gotten lots of suggestions about what not to do, so I'm to give you 1 that you should do, and that is to always lube your o-rings/seals with some of the oil that's used in the machine you're working on, in this case HyGard, before installing them, which helps you avoid damaging them.
    Have you gotten any news on your 9R that's being repaired?
    I hope y'all have a good one!
    "Nothing Runs Like A Deere" 🦌👍🇺🇸

      I did lube them up. Kept dipping my fingers in the oil right next to where we were working as I was assembling it.

      Okay then, good for you, I must've missed that, which is unusual for me, but I've been multitasking, which I'm admittedly not very good at.
      Are y'all getting close to having your house completed inside?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RealJohnWayne I mean mostly. I'm still working on some closet shelving and getting things put away but we're in and it's probably going to drag on for a while

      That's good, I know it's a big relief just to get in.
      My late wife and I built what was going to be our last home, to grow old in together, and moved in with it mostly finished in 03 and it took us several more months to get everything finished.
      We enjoyed it immensely for 14 years, because we were blessed in being able to build what we wanted.
      Unfortunately our happy home ended in 17, as she got her BIG promotion to her eternal, Heavenly home, and I got left behind.
      I'm really happy for you and your wife, I know what it's like to build your dream home, one that you've thought and dreamed about for years. 👍

    20:52, I tried this same method for disassembling my JD (5205 tractor) loader cylinders. However, I didn't use lubricant, nor tapping cylinder housing w/a mallet while I pulled. I ultimately failed, took them to a hyd cylinder repair shop and got soaked on their fee. When you used that monster impact gun and the wrong end spun off could you have acquired two large nuts w/matching threads, run them together as jam nuts, then weld a large bar to the outermost nut to use as a (torque) stabilizer, then hit it w/your impact gun?
