    It makes a big difference if you can find teams that will grind during the week to try to avoid all weekend work. When I was in banking I preferred working those extra 8 hours you worked on Sunday spread over the week (so let’s say 1-2am) and then getting 2 full days off. Also this is why targeting banks/groups with good cultures is so important.

    90% of the people who are aspiring to be in this situation will end up regretting the amount of hours you put in, specially in the best years of your life - ruining your health and have a lot of money, but no time to actually spend it usefully for experiences so you will just end up living flashy lifestyle trying to please others or buy stuff you don't even need and get into debt most likely. Saying that as a lawyer myself who ended up sometimes working long hours trying to explain myself it's for the best but felt kind of miserable.. anyways.. it is a lifestyle.. but there are better lifestyle than that.. now I'm travelling the world doing random jobs here and there.. it pays the bills and lets me do budget travelling and be in over 50 countries while I'm just 30 years old. Not saying I will never go back, but for now - for me and my well being - I see that my current path is the way to go. Remember - don't be afraid to leave everything if it does not feel right - create your own path no matter what people around you say!

      It’s one of many few industries where you have to work crazy hours plus with crazy pay . Everyone has their own preference. That’s their company their policy .

    • @leopardduck4490
      @leopardduck4490 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Almost no one works these hours long term. People typically work an average of 2-3 years as an analyst and maybe associate before pivoting to a difference finance field like PE, VC, or HF where you can work 60-70 hours a week and make a similar if not higher salary.
      Even for the few people who do stay in the industry, after 8-9 years you typically reach VP/Managing director level where work also dies down to 60-70hr/week, not the ridiculous 80-100 analysts are working.
      Think of the IB analyst grind as being very similar to the 5 years a surgeon will spend in residency before becoming an attending.

    • @starshockey11
      @starshockey11 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It doesn’t die down that much in PE, VC or HF unless you go to a smaller boutique firm (with more modest pay).

    ibankers at tier 1 banks don't "waste" so much of their junior's time because they have very efficient MDs and meetings with clients, proactively addressing and making clear the work details, minimizing follow ups. from experience, it's the tier 2/3 banks that work their junior staff to death because of the constant shifting of gears and lack of ability in "managing the client".

When I was 15 I was working 15 hour shifts in construction and electrical, it was only 3 days a week max mind you but it wasn’t bad at all and I would’ve done more. I was paid more than some adults by the hour 15$ (minimum was 13$ then).

My advice is: to anyone who does not own real estate in NYC, find a corporate job in a city with a lower cost of living where you will work 45-55 hrs and you will have the same standard of living, and probably save the same amount of money. Plus you can spare the insane real estate costs, and own your home much earlier. Just an opinion.

    Can make more per hour working at McDonalds. Why would anyone ever put themselves through this. All that eating out is going to catch up with you as well. "Mental health walk" like jesus even in prison you get to go outside 1hr per day.

      @@GNMi79 first year analyst prob makes 100k base 100k bonus working 80-100hrs a week. Assuming 100k total as bonus is discretionary and 90hrs / week for 52 weeks = $21 / hr. In CA minimum wage is like 17/hr and 18/hr in SF. Obviously a bit exaggerated but i think the point stands
