I've played like... 6 hours of Age of Empires IV just for fun since recording this. Mostly skirmishes vs hardest AI. Haven't delved into multiplayer yet, but soon? (But to be clear, in THIS video I basically hadn't played at all.)
William the Conqueror basically committed genocide in Yorkshire during the Harrying of the North. It was said that on his death bed he confessed to be gravely disturbed by what he did. Those who weren't butchered died of starvation. Some of the survivors had to resort to cannibalism with all food production having been destroyed. Having said that good to see a new age of empires 😅
FWIW had Harold not had to put down a Danish invasion force in Yorkshire he wouldn't have been caught so badly prepared by William's invasion in the S: Harold had to reverse his army's direction the instant he received the news of the new attack, from several hundred miles away..
When Quill says about not having mythical creatures and you just think back to Age of Mythology or the AOE cheat 'king arthur' where it changes the birds into dragons :p
This feels like a reskin of age of empires 2, i dont feel that they upgraded it enough to live up to the expectations of what aoe 4 should've been. Also, being honest i kinda miss the aoe 2 ambient music.
I'm pretty sure that's what everyone wanted. I see a couple of new mechanics to make it feel a bit more modern. I've played a lot and so far I think they did a perfect job at bringing the franchise to the modem age.

According to the IGN review the Rus and Mongol campaigns are great. Be cool to see you try them if you make it that far!
The fact that you have to explain to your viewers what Age Of Empires is makes me feel so old, Quill.....
I wish they'd bring back the good'ol narrations at the start and end of every mission, AoE II style. They were so good.
Age of Empires 4 is neat, but you know what I'd LOVE to see?

I played the original Age of Empires a LOT. We had our entire army barracks wired up for lan party multiplayer.

William did indeed say he regretted the harrowing of the North. Not that fact that he did it, mind you. He regretted the extent to which he did it.

Yeah outposts only fire when there upgraded or have someone garrisoned in them otherwise there just for vision.

There are a lot of differences at its core it’s the same but no one what’s the core of the game changed.
