I live in Thailand....women and ease of visas are the only reason to live in the Philippines.
2 good reasons
Those are pretty compelling reasons 🙂
Its the old news of the day & common knowledge that young PH women who have relationship or married to old foreigners are in love with their money only Thailand is the twin brother of the Philippines You foreing expats enjoy getting ripped off in Thailand & the Philippines
@@josepanicucci8591but I think mature PH women are a good option, they are sweeter than western women just am running out of time am 59 and still so much to explore in Germany, I also wanna see more of Austria and it takes years to find a wife in PH so I may forget it though 😅
So what are the benefits of Thailand, GK? Why Thailand women are not preferable to Pinays? The lack of English, beauty, what? I heard most got an actual axx...
I lived in Chiang Mai for a long time. Now I am in Davao. I have to say, the advantages of Thailand over the Philippines are definitely the food. The big disadvantage for me as a German is the language barrier in Thailand. This is the real reason why I live in the Philippines now. I'm fluent in English and Tagalog is way easier to learn tham Thai
Thai is a tonal language, but as I said, nowhere I lived did I ever found the language a huge issue.
also nur Frauen und Strände was dafür spricht😅
I think I will leave Pattaya in a month. I have been to Chiang Mai several times and do love it. It is very beautiful but maybe too quiet for me.
I lived in Pi for 18 months in a provincial town at the foot of Mayon volcano. I lived there with the absolute best woman I have ever been blessed to know. Despite domestic bliss, the place was a nightmare to live in. It reminded me of the 1960s USA, but worse. Due to a major, I can not do that with my girl I had to leave. I have been in Thailand for four years. for me, there is really no comparison. From food, and internet, to medical care, Thailand runs circles around Pi. Thailand just feels safer. I have no fear of wandering the streets of Bangkok at any hour. The only advantage I can see is an older man is much more likely to catch a better young woman in Pi due to sheer desperation on their part. The Thai culture is indecipherable but warm and friendly. I much prefer Thailand and from my last trip to Pi, I can say enough. I think I will never return. The food comparison is like comparing McDo to a Michelin Restaurant. Thailand is a full-employment country. Any Thai who wants a job will have a job. That is a huge difference.
thank you for sharing
i think u are right about a what u said and i guess the visa can be worked out in thailand, if thais spoke english more and the visa was as easy as PI, think maybe very few might go to philippines?
@@paulfowler981 the retirement visa is easy with an agency.
Exactly. We didn't want to get into that too deeply for the reasons you no doubt understand.@@timg5463
@@timg5463 but it is a more expensive right than a visa to philippines right? thought i heard someone say 20000 dollars for 5 years
I have been to both countries while in the US Navy, of course that was back in the mid 1980s I would live in the Philippines over Thailand if I had my choice
thanks Ted for your comment
Really good interview with this guy. I'll watch his channel to learn about Thailand
thank you BigMike
Thank you Mike. I have lived everywhere he spoke of but mostly lived in China. I also prefer more Asian countries. It’s more interesting and fascinating to me. I always had Asian partners and girlfriends because my relationship was more interesting. I grew a lot personally as a result. Chiang Mai is better for me than Cebu. I’m a walker - over two hours a day. I never had any problem with sidewalks in Chiang Mai. People are very friendly, sincere, accommodative, and attractive. I don’t drink, go to bars or pay for sex. I found it very easy to meet women. The food was far above the Phillipines in quality, flavors, much much healthier (no fried, greasy food), much more flavorful, and much cheaper. I prefer local food everywhere I go. It’s easy to get around in Chiang Mai. I easily made friends who I speak with daily. I like the Phillipines also for different reasons. The people are number one. I’m an accommodative person. I don’t expect where I go in Asia to be the US at all. I love to explore where other westerners don’t go. I’m never bored anywhere because I’m approachable, respectful, curious and interesting myself. I would say as easy as it was to meet women in Chiang Mai, it’s effortless in the Phillipines. I prefer outside of big cities. In one day I can easily meet 5-6 Filipinas. Both countries have their attributes. I live in SE Asia as a slow traveler because I can get so much interesting variety of life so closely and never am bored. I easily find volunteer opportunities everywhere I go. That’s a great way to connect and feel productive helping others. I used to teach in major universities so I easily find teaching positions wherever I go as a volunteer. I created a very interesting life in the US. I use the same ways to create a wonderful life where ever k go. It’s so much better than the US
thank you for sharing my friend
I appreciate your channel and sharing your life and relationship with us. You’re a very good man . I have lots of respect for you and Janet
We are same asian countries but Filipinos are the best one because we are hospitality we have a good heart for any nationality 😁
good to hear that
@@mikesphilippineretirement yeah you know that already mike 😁
@@SimpleDidz42 Yes we also know that young PH women who have relationship or married to old foreigners are in love with their money only Yes you young PH women are hospitality & are the best when it comes to that
@@josepanicucci8591 that's the mentality of Foreigner,if you concerned about that then why you choose young Filipina woman? I'm 42 and still I don't have any physical man boyfriend in my life, and look maybe you can choose a decent woman from the province not a woman from the club or beer house okay sir?
people like him put down others to raise himself up…don’t mind him. He just want attention but in a negative way.
Overall Thailand is quite a bit cheaper than the Philippines. Rentals & food being the big differences, thats not saying you can't get somewhere cheap in the Philippines, but they're not as readily available.
The big positive of the Philippines is the English spoken, plus the ease to stay long term.
The opposite can be said of Thailand.
I've always said it, both counties combined would be the ultimate paradise.
If only
Out of stock usually means they don't speak good English and are afraid of looking silly. Remember not losing face is very important in Asia. When I was looking for a place to live outside of the USA I considered Thailand but the longterm visa situation isn't good. When I found out they speak English in the Philippines I decided to try the Philippines.
that is a good point
Buddy....incredible content shared. Those considering travel, these are golden nuggets .Mike! kudos to another great show.Your consistent information resource center is nothing short of amazing. Happy to be part of the tribe.
Thanks a ton! David
Mike is a rock star!
Thanks for doing these interviews Mike!
I've traveled to/lived in 35+ countries and early retired in Cebu. Happy to talk on and off camera in the future. God bless
We're off to jomtien this Tuesday. Set up a few things for our move in Feb full time. Jomtiem is slower but pattaya is only 5 min away but t he road network in Thailand is great to drive , wide smooth roads, resteraunts all along the roads, lots of places to visit so looking forward to getting settled in there, rents there for say us dollars is about $ 375. To roughly $ 420 a month and it's a 40 to 50 sq metes condos one bedroom some two bedrooms, pools, fitness , 7/ 11 seconds away great foods, shopping centres, so next year how about you and Janet plan a trip there and we will show you around spoil you silly, Janet will love the food you too, Filipinos love Thailand once they see it there amazed at the difference, anyway great interview, hope you and Janet are well and healthy
I think Thailand is cheaper to live than Philippines. I heard most people experienced from Thailand that the foods and renting apartment are cheaper thàn Philippines.
I hear the same thing
I hope the Department of Tourism can see and watch this video. We can still improve those services brought out by these 2 foreigners.
Hey Mike, great interview as always keep up the great work.
Much appreciated
Mike is a rock star interviewer!
Interesting chat. Yes, cold but polite in the service industry... Still better than the USA. Funny, I was watching a pettycoat junction rerun and laughed because it's like the Philippines today.
Interesting..I get to be Uncle Joe
Thanks Mike for another great video❤ Hi Janet🙋😊
thanks Herb
Good interview. very enjoyable.
thank you
This interview was really smooth two guys talkin , good one , by the way you will never get bored in Thailand specially in pattaya
thank you...getting bored is a possible problem for some expats
Good and interesting talk 😊
Thank you! 😃
Good interview Mike! Good to see you outside. Anywhere outside works better than inside for an interview. Keep it up.🤙
Totally agree!
Great conversation is very enjoyable.
thanks Jude
@@mikesphilippineretirement your welcome
Thank you for the interesting interview. I lived in Thailand for 4 years. I feel more comfortable in the Philippines. Although I do spearfishing and over Thailand there are much more fish possible due to the fact that the water there is not very clear and the fish can easily escape from the hunter, here on Samal the water is very transparent and to get good fish you need to dive over 20 m
Thanks for sharing!
It's nice to hear someone who walks almost everywhere. That's what I'm looking for.
Hey Mike! Great interview and a good comparison of Thailand vs. Cebu. Maybe if he goes to Samar it will be more Asian for Buddy.

Food in the Philippines is expensive shit. The main downside of living in the Philippines.
I’ve stayed 18 months now in the Philippines, been traveling around quite a lot, stayed 3 years in Thailand before, you can’t even compare the two, the only reason to stay i the Philippines is the visa rules and easier language
Many guy visit both Philippines and Thailand
He says 50 square feet. Surely he meant 50 square meters. I hope.
yes he did mean 50 meters
Yes.
@@mikesphilippineretirement NOT 50 meters…it is 50 square meters. We are talking about area and not linear
we don't have Buddhist temples here dude, we're Catholics here😂😂😂
Not everyone is Catholic here in the Philippines many are Muslim
Sriracha city near Pattaya city is the best city, too.
Hola Mike and Buddy, I am living in San Luis Potosi, Mexico
Hello there!
That's my buddy, Wayne. Hola, compadre! SLP was much better than GDL.
Olives is not a staple food in the Philippines that's why the response was, olive oil? Baking soda is not used here as much specially in the province. Dude, you are not in States!
we are in a major city and they have baking soda, baking power, and Olives....I get olives on most salads we order here in Cebu and Dumaguete..Dude
Just a comment the part about residence free visitors pay. I don't see much difference for that and united states for school in district out of district pricing
I'm retired and I enjoy drinking

Always wear your helmet.....even on a scooter

Philippines is not the land of opportunity for foreigners to invest or settle Foreigners can't own lands & full business ownership in PH (the 60/40 Filipino first policy) Foreigners can be granted PH citizenship if born & raised in PH like the prominent Spanish Ayala family which I think is not your case Mike They say that "Its more fun in the Philippines" its true for rich Filipinos only
not looking to be a filipino citizen
@@mikesphilippineretirement Even if you wanted to you're not qualified to become one therefore PH is not the country for you to invest or settle you can be deported for overstaying in PH
How did he deal with the visa in Thailand? Have to make a visa run every 30 days?
check out Buddy's channel maybe he has talked about visa in Thailand
Come on over! I had a year long education visa.
You can buy 1 year visa fo around 300$
Philippines you always hear: not available, out of stock, sorry sir. Everywhere you go you "not available".
Customer service is so bad and negligent it just beyond understanding - why so bad.
He is right about restaurants. We stopped going to restos in PH - it is always bad. Only go to places like carenderias where the owner is present the service and food will be much better.

in Laos you get skin tax in nearly all places, after all, they are only making you pay for the bombing of their country which most people accept.
Yay! Glad he's leaving.Stay in Thailand and leave us alone.
who is us???
Happy to, if us is you, farang.
This video was so poignant for me. What it got me in touch with is that I come from a different place than a lot of the vloggers online, especially those in the Philippines. I just don't relate to people who have under-earned, under-saved, or are trying to stay within very low budgets or social security payments. In my experience, that financial reality creates many limitations in a persons way of thinking / living and I want to be with more 'dynamic' people who have the history, spirit, means and freedom to look at and live life in the way that I like to, for this will definitely effect the conversations that occur. How my reality shows up is in the places I live, where when and what I eat, my freedom to travel, my hobbies and activities, etc. It doesn't mean it has to be gold rolexes and fancy homes but it does equal a life that wouldn't be limited by those that have conversations like the one these 2 gents had about the way they live. No judgement, just a reality check. Thank you for providing this for me. This also reminded me that I have to guard the information about how much I actually have when speaking with other expats and doubly so, the locals.
Go wherever makes you happy that's the best. For me there is no comparison. Because you can go and picked whatever you want in the Philippines. Also you never explore around the Philippines much and you stuck in 1 place in Cebu? How about try Iloilo City? Or somewhere in North or Davao? Not Angeles.
Yeah this guy seems way too salty.
saltly...in a good way?
Yarrrr, me hearty.
I live in Pattaya and its a good place to be of you live away from the main area.
sounds nice
Pattaya is red light district
@@jacked6 you must've missed the part where I said "away from the main area"...I live over the hill on the beach and live an active healthy lifestyle where its quiet. There's a lot more to Pattaya than go go bars.
@@GK-wx6xo Thailand has so many cleaner beaches and options especially to the south. Why not Krabi and south of there? So much cleaner and better. Pattaya is bit filth -_-. I lived in Thailand for many years but avoid Pattaya unless going to Ko Larn.
@@jacked6 I've always avoided Pattaya until the pandemic because I'm unvaxxed so I couldn't go to Phuket so I went to Pattaya. I prefer being close to Bangkok as well. I've got a great pool at my condo, an ocean view and I can walk along Jomtien beach every morning. Its cheaper than Phuket too.
I think ive already watch a100 times compairing philippines and thailand and always thailand win anyway expat have really their choice we have so many bad critism in my country but its ok its their life choice mostly are still looking for their western life
So many old guys only go to Philippines and Thailand. The world has way more to offer. Go check out many other places too.
what other places
@@mikesphilippineretirementPlenty of places and I really enjoyed Thailand and I also have enjoyed living here in Mexico for many years and I'm planning on visiting the Phillippines. I think Spain, Vietnam, Malaysia would be great places to visit to see if it's a great place to retire long term.
3000 views so far.
going ok
I realise you cant move to Thailand with Janet because of her son but youd never go back to the Phils after living in Thailand.
we will see. Many expats in the Philippines have been to Thailand and picked the Philippines to live
Thailand is decades ahead of Phils. No comparison. Again Thai food is too notch cuisine. Phils cuisine is touch and go, mostly a pass except for their BBQ milkfish is quite good. Corruption is probably similar throughout SE Asia. The Phils girls and off road beaches with pristine waters are the only thing going for the country in my opinion.
where is the better to live.thailand or here Philippines?☺️😉
I love it here..but Buddy likes Thailand
Been to Thailand many times and was married to Thai women but I'll take the Philippines over Thailand every day, even with all Thailand's advantages, and there are many. But i don't like military juntas ( just wait for the next one), don't want to learn the language and don't like the darker connotation of what Farang means.
Thanks for sharing
Military coups have to happen because the so-called globalists won't stop wanting to topple our monarchy and own our country in practice themselves. Regading your last sentence, I just want to say that maybe racists love to imagine racism?
