According to him in this interview he had been CEO of this hospital in Bangkok for "6 years in total" when he spoke out and got arrested in 2010 but according to this Fox news article he was working in Indiana between 2003 and 2009. "Cardwell is accused of stealing about $848,000 from Powell Valley Healthcare in Wyoming in 2011 and about $846,000 from White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello, Ind., between 2003 and 2009. He had been CEO of both."
he's been really cool and kind to me in text responses to me. it's disappointing to hear him say that he hadn't even had a parking ticket in Thailand when he was in fact a refugee from the law back home.

Viktor Bout was also extradited to the USA from Thailand in 2010. Paul was arrested in Thailand in 2013. Many many holes in all of his stories to cover his past. Instead of just coming out or not even coming out that he was a convicted con man, he shouldn't have fabricated stories like this. Just hurts his cause that much more. I am just disappointed in him and can you really trust someone like that?

Very interesting. The man has a YT channel, gives interviews on other channels and is therefore very exposed on social media. He obviously has a criminal past in the US. If a viewer of this video is upset at how shamelessly this man lies about his past, they might consider reporting it to the Philippine Immigration. Let me guess, then the guy is faster than he would like, imprisoned, deported and blacklisted in the Philippines. The Philippines has often made it clear that they are not interested in such "guests". Getting a visa is not a legal right, it is an accommodation. Anyway... I've learned a lot today. im an old man. i went to prison several times right here in merica, in fact i spent 10 years of my life in prisons. i was at Tucker, Cumins, and wrightsville, and benton arkansas between 1979 and 1985. then i was at waupon, foxlake, black river falls, and wisconsin resource center(the prison mental hospital), dodge, and portage(super max) in wisconsin between 1990 and 1997. i use to proudly wear "ARYAN BROTHERHOOD" tattoos! i moved to Cebu City in 2015 to get married as i had NO INCOME and thus could NOT sponsor my Fiancee! inherited money in 2016 so we moved to America, my wife is 30 years younger and is now a US CITIZEN! she is working the night shift at our local hospital as im writing this! she has a BSN and i only get $361 a month social security, she supports us and her family back home too! she cried her eyes out here in America when i offered her $40,000 cash and a ticket to go any where she desired, she thought i was trying to get rid of her. i later spent 3 months in the hospital with a SYAPH A INFECTION and almost died several times! i am NOT ashamed of my past history, it has made me who i am today. and i tell people right up front about my criminal past. there are people who are put off by my past, but unlike this world zoom guy, i have no need to tell lies about my past. hell i use to charge my sister (2 years younger than me) to hang out with me and my friends or to go places with me, like to go with me on my paper route. the cost??? From 2001 to 2009 he ripped off his first hospital with the same scheme as the 2nd hospital. From 2009 to 2011 he must have went to Thailand where he spent all his ill gotten gain on land or other foreign assets. To own land in Thailand, he must have been married to a Thai or bought it for his first girl friend in her name who had his son. In 2011 he was hired by the 2nd hospital from Health Tech employment and that's when he was caught stealing money from the 2nd hospital. Since he is lying, he opened the door to all this. Shouldn't have lied, just come clean, take it like a man and move on.
You ended with some humor that lightened things up. Nice touch on a very serious matter. If I may say, where ever any of us go, do yourself a favor if ever asked to explain your opinion on the country’s government or politics, just say no. Remain quite and keep it to yourself. No one really cares what we think and it can only go bad as in this matter.

A truly cautionary tale about travelling to another country. You wouldn't expect something like this to happen in the US or Europe but in Thailand or any country with a different legal/cultural system..best to keep yourself low profile.

I was living in South Korea at the time and went to Thailand on vacation. Riots were just breaking when I boarded the plane back to South Korea. I got out just in time. Small world.
I was astonished when Paul told me about the reality of this man's true exploits. I bought every single line of his story. I find no consolation in the fact that many others also did.
We came from Thailand and now live in Florida. A few years ago, a new Thai grocery store opened in Lake Worth, so we went to shop there. It was nice and busy, and the Thai owner and her American husband were very friendly. They were savvy with social media, posting about their products. Lo and behold, she posted a nasty comment criticizing the president (I don't remember if it was Biden or Trump). It didn't go well. In fact, it went so horribly wrong that it impacted their business. When 50% of the people loved the political comment, the other 50% didn't. If you want your business to thrive, keep your political views away. I don't think the store is still there today. Paul made the same mistake, and he realized it. What he should have emphasized was how critical it was for staff and patients to get through the blockage, not a word about how freely elected officials should be running the country. The thugs in charge can make your life miserable. Unless you have plenty of immunity to fight them, keep your profile low. We love you Paul ( both of you ).

Expats often forget they are "guests" in the foreign country. People who grew up in a country such as the USA are used to abundant freedom to speak their mind. This freedom mostly doesn't exist around the world. Best advice overseas is to never have any opinion, stay away from media interaction, limit online presence, keep your mouth shut. As a "guest" you will never understand the host nation country or nationals no matter how arrogantly you believe you might. I was also in BKK in 2010.
As a Canadian, if I go to the USA I don't have the same rights as a US citizen while in the US. When not in your own country don't take anything for granted.

Getting shook down for $1 million a month and impacting critical operations of a hospital kind of extends beyond politics. He should have cut a deal directly with the military commanders to allow access there for $100k a month or whatever but without the queue.

I can only tell you I have been retired and living in Thailand for a year now and I went to the PH for 6 weeks I couldn't wait to get back to Thailand and I love it here and the food and medical here is so much better than the PH just my opinion

Some days after watching this video and commenting, I began seeing videos of this guy being a liar, scammer, very deceitful person. I came back here to see if you were aware, and I see many comments here now about him and his deception. It behooves me how and why anybody could do that. What gain did he expect from lying. I lived in Thailand from 2005 to 2017, so I was there for all of this and a lot more over the years. I'm surprised that this guy commented to anybody about Thai politics, especially to the Bangkok Post. He had to have known better. I was there in Bangkok during this time with my children. I used to dress my kids in red shirts when travelling so i could see them easy in a crowd. Someone took a photo of my daughter in a red and held her up in a crowd. I was asking in our motel what all of this was about. A reporter told me i shoukd leave bankok that night on a train to chang Mia in case the photo made it to the papers. I took his advise and booked is on the trian immediately. The next day Bangkok was in lockdown.

I finally got back his military records from the National Archives. I can say that he is nothing but a liar and stolen valor. No doubt now with these records that I requested that I have as of today. The 'trick" is to have your own money, regular substantial income, stay completely out of all politics, keep a low profile, etc. Just having a business or working in Thailand, makes you a possible financial or political target. Fact.
In the US I tried to pay with an $100 note (Benjamin Franklin). They refused to take it as it could be counterfeited. I took it as right out discrimination as I look Asian and speak with a Pinay accent. But no point starting a loud argument, I just told them to keep the merchandise and took my business elsewhere.
i tried paying cash as at a restaurant in atlanta and that happened to me. Before here in the Philippines, when i tried to pay with the newer 1000 peso bill, it had a fold, and at that time vendors were refusing to take the new bill if it had a fold or crease. Luckily i had another older bill that was all folded and wrinkled but they accepted that. Yes, because i was a foreigner. Foreigners or perceived foreigners are not always treated the best by locals in any country. Sorry that happened to you in the US.
When this guy talked about being CEO of some hospitals in Bangkok, Manila, and Phnom Penh, why didn't anyone have the presence of mind to ask the names of said hospitals? The scenarios he describes sound far-fetched to about any seasoned western expat in these parts if you step back and think about it all for a moment.

I was banned off a Filipino Queensland community site on fb, for complaining about the poor services of the Consulate. Even though part of the group wanted me to sign the petition for better services i.e to allow passport renewal instead of traveling to another state. The elderly women were very childish to be honest. I was polite & I can tell you Filipinos do not take constructive criticism well at all, they want feedback (but this only means positive feedback); they certainly do not want others to see on an open forum that they have made a mistake. I spent years following a pro divorce group & had similar experiences even with the supporters, due to my disgust & frustration of the scam of foreign recognition of divorce. Its very hard for us Kiwis/New Zealanders to not stand up against injustice, I know as my wife has told me also that you have to be very smart & careful when over there & EVEN within the community over here in Australia & so on too!
My best advice for minimizing possible trouble if/when you find yourself as a foreigner in the Philippines is that when it comes to Philippine politics, remain neutral (if/when you have to speak, then choose your words carefully so that they're not construed as you taking a side). Don't even think that talking in support of a current government is a smart move; for even that action is a non-neutral action. Simply don't get involved with their internal political matters - no matter what - & you'll likely end up better off. And be aware of crowds starting to form possibly for political purposes - & never cut through a crowd formed for such; for, standing out as a foreigner at such a time might get you noticed by the government to be scrutinized (jailed/investigated for possibly breaking a law prohibiting your participation in Philippine politics), or worse, for some folk in the crowd might turn on you (& your loved ones if you're not alone). Note: I was traveling abroad on leave in the Philippines during the Marcos-Aquino Revolution (Marcos was in power at the start, but not at the finish). I first noticed the revolution when what looked like guerillas took over a TV station. I was in a hotel in Angeles at the time; so as an active-duty U.S. Marine, I tried to get into the Clark Airbase & was denied entry (!!!). I found myself left to my own devices - which was a bit of an adventure - until I eventually reached the U.S. Naval Base at Subic Bay (I was told by a Marine that sailor & his family had been murdered by a politically-charged crowd just outside of the base's gate some number of days before I arrived in Olangapo: they had tried to cut through the crowd in order to get on base - a case of right idea, poor timing). Ponder such if you will. IMO: both praying & using one's head usually helps matters.

I would really like to know how he got a passport after surrendering his to the police. Part of his bail agreement was to surrender his passport but soon after he did, he applied for another one under his adopted name of Sappington but was caught, then they couldn't find him soon afterwards for he had skipped to Thailand. Must be a hole in our Homeland security to have got by security with a bogus passport. Would like to know how much foreign property he had at the time of his arrest and if he sold it to pay off what he stole. The Thai locals said he was "living large" in Hua Hin and tipped off the officials. In his 3 or 4 interviews on other TH-camr's channels, his stories do not match time lines, places, account of events. What about his detective girlfriend? Does she know? She would also know if he was telling stories too by watching his interviews. Does she actually exist, the one he talks about living in Dubai?

Whenever I’ve been to the Philippines, I often got baited into political conversations. I always minded my business and changed the topic. My mother didn’t raise a dummy. I would marvel how beautiful the country is and the people are so friendly and helpful. I would discuss places I’ve visited while in their country. I knew I was only a visitor and you never criticize or berate your host.

I lived in Thailand for many years, and have heard many foreigners say things about society/government there that made me cringe. However, most of these people were retirees and people of little consequence to the authorities there. This guy had a high profile position and ended up on the front page of the main English language newspaper. In my opinion, the Bangkok Post shares some responsibility for this man's predicament. They would have known of the risk to him, but went ahead and interviewed him and put it on the front page, with little regard to his safety all to grab a headline.

At 2:10 guest Paul says: “in 2010” the Red Shirt rebellion closed the airport. There was unrest in 2010 but Suvarnabhumi Airport was closed by protestors in 2008. In 2010 the Thai Prime Minister was Abhisit Vejjajiva. Thaksin Shinawatra was the Thai Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006. His sister Yingluck Shinawatra was Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2011 to 2014, again not aligning with guest Paul’s narrative at 05:50. Guest Paul clearly states his arrest occurred because he was critical of the Shinawatras being “kicked out” of the country. Yingluck was still a year away from being elected at that point and a long, long way from leaving Thailand. About 2 months ago Daddy Paul met with the head of the American Citizen’s Service Unit of the US Embassy in PHP. The diplomat told Paul what an arrested US citizen can expect from the Embassy. They will bring a goodie bag; make calls for them; recommend lawyers. What the US Embassy does not do is negotiate your release as guest Paul claims at 14:13. There are other things guest Paul said that sent my skepticism meter off the chart. But I don’t want to make this a novel. I do believe guest Paul was in a Thai prison. But there is a lot he said that does not pass the sniff test.
I had similar thoughts, so I looked around and found a man name Paul Cardwell, also from Indiana, and also ran hospitals, who was arrested in Hua Hin in 2013 after fleeing the US when he was charged with embezzling $1.7M from the two hospitals he ran between 2003 - 2010. Now I can't say this is the same Paul with 100% certainty, but they sure do look alike and the similarities in backgrounds makes me wonder.

Used a relative's passport to run to Thailand while awaiting charges here in the US. Spent time and stolen money in Pattaya before buying land and living large in Bangkok. Locals ratted him out. Arrested and extradited to US, convicted and served several years in prison.
How easy it is for us Americans to take for granted our First Amendment rights. This story is a very strong cautionary tale.. The moral of the story is "Remember where you are, then sit down and shut up', lol. Cool story, thanks for bringing it to us, Paul.
Re-interview this guy and ask him about being arrested for fleeing to Thailand to escape prosecution for fraud. Didn't have a damn thing to do with offending the Thai government. I'm a retired federal officer and his explanation about his arrest and detainment in Thailand sure sounded odd. 🤔🤔🤔

According to him in this interview he had been CEO of this hospital in Bangkok for "6 years in total" when he spoke out and got arrested in 2010 but according to this Fox news article he was working in Indiana between 2003 and 2009.

Viktor Bout was also extradited to the USA from Thailand in 2010. Paul was arrested in Thailand in 2013. Many many holes in all of his stories to cover his past. Instead of just coming out or not even coming out that he was a convicted con man, he shouldn't have fabricated stories like this. Just hurts his cause that much more. I am just disappointed in him and can you really trust someone like that?

im an old man. i went to prison several times right here in merica, in fact i spent 10 years of my life in prisons. i was at Tucker, Cumins, and wrightsville, and benton arkansas between 1979 and 1985. then i was at waupon, foxlake, black river falls, and wisconsin resource center(the prison mental hospital), dodge, and portage(super max) in wisconsin between 1990 and 1997.

i moved to Cebu City in 2015 to get married as i had NO INCOME and thus could NOT sponsor my Fiancee! inherited money in 2016 so we moved to America, my wife is 30 years younger and is now a US CITIZEN! she is working the night shift at our local hospital as im writing this! she has a BSN and i only get $361 a month social security, she supports us and her family back home too!
she cried her eyes out here in America when i offered her $40,000 cash and a ticket to go any where she desired, she thought i was trying to get rid of her. i later spent 3 months in the hospital with a SYAPH A INFECTION and almost died several times!

This is so true, especially in Thailand. We are foreigners who are meddling in "a family affair." One of the worst things a foreigner can do is get involved in Thai politics. It's not our place. Talk about food, the weather, or everything you like about Thailand and the Thais will love you.
The United States is just as bad depending on your politics. You can be arrested, jailed and put on a terrorist watch list for speaking out at a PTA meeting.

From 2001 to 2009 he ripped off his first hospital with the same scheme as the 2nd hospital. From 2009 to 2011 he must have went to Thailand where he spent all his ill gotten gain on land or other foreign assets. To own land in Thailand, he must have been married to a Thai or bought it for his first girl friend in her name who had his son. In 2011 he was hired by the 2nd hospital from Health Tech employment and that's when he was caught stealing money from the 2nd hospital. Since he is lying, he opened the door to all this. Shouldn't have lied, just come clean, take it like a man and move on.

So many mistakes and wrong details from the guy, easy to know for someone who lives in Thailand for 15+ years, easy to know that he is a lier.
I was astonished when Paul told me about the reality of this man's true exploits. I bought every single line of his story. I find no consolation in the fact that many others also did.
We came from Thailand and now live in Florida. A few years ago, a new Thai grocery store opened in Lake Worth, so we went to shop there. It was nice and busy, and the Thai owner and her American husband were very friendly. They were savvy with social media, posting about their products. Lo and behold, she posted a nasty comment criticizing the president (I don't remember if it was Biden or Trump). It didn't go well. In fact, it went so horribly wrong that it impacted their business. When 50% of the people loved the political comment, the other 50% didn't. If you want your business to thrive, keep your political views away. I don't think the store is still there today.
Paul made the same mistake, and he realized it. What he should have emphasized was how critical it was for staff and patients to get through the blockage, not a word about how freely elected officials should be running the country. The thugs in charge can make your life miserable. Unless you have plenty of immunity to fight them, keep your profile low.

Expats often forget they are "guests" in the foreign country. People who grew up in a country such as the USA are used to abundant freedom to speak their mind. This freedom mostly doesn't exist around the world. Best advice overseas is to never have any opinion, stay away from media interaction, limit online presence, keep your mouth shut. As a "guest" you will never understand the host nation country or nationals no matter how arrogantly you believe you might. I was also in BKK in 2010.
As a Canadian, if I go to the USA I don't have the same rights as a US citizen while in the US. When not in your own country don't take anything for granted.
@@AutoCrete I think the difficulty is more extreme between Canada and the USA because there is the tendency to assume on a visceral level we are the same since the language is virtually identical but there are vast differences between Americans and Canadians. Getting shook down for $1 million a month and impacting critical operations of a hospital kind of extends beyond politics.
He should have cut a deal directly with the military commanders to allow access there for $100k a month or whatever but without the queue.
His story in Thailand is amazing and amazing. If I remember correctly, he said, on his World Zoom channel, that he would not recommend Thailand to retire. Now I know why! Being in prison and your roommate for a time is the Merchant of Death! Wow!

I can only tell you I have been retired and living in Thailand for a year now and I went to the PH for 6 weeks I couldn't wait to get back to Thailand and I love it here and the food and medical here is so much better than the PH just my opinion

Some days after watching this video and commenting, I began seeing videos of this guy being a liar, scammer, very deceitful person. I came back here to see if you were aware, and I see many comments here now about him and his deception. It behooves me how and why anybody could do that. What gain did he expect from lying. That's crazy. He evidently did his time in jail, is out and still lying his butt off.
I lived in Thailand from 2005 to 2017, so I was there for all of this and a lot more over the years. I'm surprised that this guy commented to anybody about Thai politics, especially to the Bangkok Post. He had to have known better. I was there in Bangkok during this time with my children. I used to dress my kids in red shirts when travelling so i could see them easy in a crowd. Someone took a photo of my daughter in a red and held her up in a crowd. I was asking in our motel what all of this was about. A reporter told me i shoukd leave bankok that night on a train to chang Mia in case the photo made it to the papers. I took his advise and booked is on the trian immediately. The next day Bangkok was in lockdown.

In the US I tried to pay with an $100 note (Benjamin Franklin). They refused to take it as it could be counterfeited. I took it as right out discrimination as I look Asian and speak with a Pinay accent. But no point starting a loud argument, I just told them to keep the merchandise and took my business elsewhere.
i tried paying cash as at a restaurant in atlanta and that happened to me. Before here in the Philippines, when i tried to pay with the newer 1000 peso bill, it had a fold, and at that time vendors were refusing to take the new bill if it had a fold or crease. Luckily i had another older bill that was all folded and wrinkled but they accepted that. Yes, because i was a foreigner. Foreigners or perceived foreigners are not always treated the best by locals in any country. Sorry that happened to you in the US.
When this guy talked about being CEO of some hospitals in Bangkok, Manila, and Phnom Penh, why didn't anyone have the presence of mind to ask the names of said hospitals? The scenarios he describes sound far-fetched to about any seasoned western expat in these parts if you step back and think about it all for a moment.

He wasn’t just deported, he was majorly involved with “red shirts and yellow shirts “ and Roomie of viktor bout ( but pronounced his name wrong, as though he never heard his “cell mate “ pronounce his own name correctly ( it’s pronounced “boot” ) Also, one million dollars 💸 per month is $32,876 PER DAY in bribes… I’m dubious 🤨. With this man’s criminal record and the numerous holes 🕳️ in his fishy story and tall tales and excessive talking etc., I wouldn’t trust anything he said. “Literally the guy who never had a parking ticket…”. This from a felon convicted of stealing 1.7 million dollars 💸 by lies and fraud.

I was banned off a Filipino Queensland community site on fb, for complaining about the poor services of the Consulate. Even though part of the group wanted me to sign the petition for better services i.e to allow passport renewal instead of traveling to another state. The elderly women were very childish to be honest. I was polite & I can tell you Filipinos do not take constructive criticism well at all, they want feedback (but this only means positive feedback); they certainly do not want others to see on an open forum that they have made a mistake.
I spent years following a pro divorce group & had similar experiences even with the supporters, due to my disgust & frustration of the scam of foreign recognition of divorce.
Its very hard for us Kiwis/New Zealanders to not stand up against injustice, I know as my wife has told me also that you have to be very smart & careful when over there & EVEN within the community over here in Australia & so on too!

My best advice for minimizing possible trouble if/when you find yourself as a foreigner in the Philippines is that when it comes to Philippine politics, remain neutral (if/when you have to speak, then choose your words carefully so that they're not construed as you taking a side).
Don't even think that talking in support of a current government is a smart move; for even that action is a non-neutral action. Simply don't get involved with their internal political matters - no matter what - & you'll likely end up better off.
And be aware of crowds starting to form possibly for political purposes - & never cut through a crowd formed for such; for, standing out as a foreigner at such a time might get you noticed by the government to be scrutinized (jailed/investigated for possibly breaking a law prohibiting your participation in Philippine politics), or worse, for some folk in the crowd might turn on you (& your loved ones if you're not alone).
Note: I was traveling abroad on leave in the Philippines during the Marcos-Aquino Revolution (Marcos was in power at the start, but not at the finish). I first noticed the revolution when what looked like guerillas took over a TV station. I was in a hotel in Angeles at the time; so as an active-duty U.S. Marine, I tried to get into the Clark Airbase & was denied entry (!!!). I found myself left to my own devices - which was a bit of an adventure - until I eventually reached the U.S. Naval Base at Subic Bay (I was told by a Marine that sailor & his family had been murdered by a politically-charged crowd just outside of the base's gate some number of days before I arrived in Olangapo: they had tried to cut through the crowd in order to get on base - a case of right idea, poor timing).
Ponder such if you will. IMO: both praying & using one's head usually helps matters.

I would really like to know how he got a passport after surrendering his to the police. Part of his bail agreement was to surrender his passport but soon after he did, he applied for another one under his adopted name of Sappington but was caught, then they couldn't find him soon afterwards for he had skipped to Thailand. Must be a hole in our Homeland security to have got by security with a bogus passport. Would like to know how much foreign property he had at the time of his arrest and if he sold it to pay off what he stole. The Thai locals said he was "living large" in Hua Hin and tipped off the officials. In his 3 or 4 interviews on other TH-camr's channels, his stories do not match time lines, places, account of events. What about his detective girlfriend? Does she know? She would also know if he was telling stories too by watching his interviews. Does she actually exist, the one he talks about living in Dubai?
I don't know if this is your best video, but it certainly is your most interesting. It's also informative for Ex-Pats in that they need to realize you're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy. Watch what you say, do and make sure your visa and paperwork is copacetic .

Whenever I’ve been to the Philippines, I often got baited into political conversations. I always minded my business and changed the topic. My mother didn’t raise a dummy. I would marvel how beautiful the country is and the people are so friendly and helpful. I would discuss places I’ve visited while in their country. I knew I was only a visitor and you never criticize or berate your host.
I’m surrounded by people with obviously high IQs but in it’s a face saving culture. Gotta be careful with. Abstract thought.
But Filipinos criticize countries they live in.

A guy was criticizing the way the government and businesses operate while on a ferry between islands in the Philippines. The first mate overheard him and notified the captain. When the boat docked, the PNP was waiting to escort him off the boat and hauled off to jail. Just for badmouthing the country. Life seems unfair, I guess. Discretion should prevail when you travel overseas.

I just saw Paul on his channel a few days ago, recounting his harrowing experience over the past several months, and now he's back in The U.S.
I lived in Thailand for many years, and have heard many foreigners say things about society/government there that made me cringe. However, most of these people were retirees and people of little consequence to the authorities there. This guy had a high profile position and ended up on the front page of the main English language newspaper. In my opinion, the Bangkok Post shares some responsibility for this man's predicament. They would have known of the risk to him, but went ahead and interviewed him and put it on the front page, with little regard to his safety all to grab a headline.

Many 2nd Amendment nuts are the greatest threat to the rule of law that the U.S. is facing, more so than anything the government is doing. If para militaries get the backing of someone like Trump, you can kiss the rule of law goodbye. It will drip, drip, drip, and be gone before you even realize it.

At 2:10 guest Paul says: “in 2010” the Red Shirt rebellion closed the airport. There was unrest in 2010 but Suvarnabhumi Airport was closed by protestors in 2008. In 2010 the Thai Prime Minister was Abhisit Vejjajiva. Thaksin Shinawatra was the Thai Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006. His sister Yingluck Shinawatra was Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2011 to 2014, again not aligning with guest Paul’s narrative at 05:50. Guest Paul clearly states his arrest occurred because he was critical of the Shinawatras being “kicked out” of the country. Yingluck was still a year away from being elected at that point and a long, long way from leaving Thailand. About 2 months ago Daddy Paul met with the head of the American Citizen’s Service Unit of the US Embassy in PHP. The diplomat told Paul what an arrested US citizen can expect from the Embassy. They will bring a goodie bag; make calls for them; recommend lawyers. What the US Embassy does not do is negotiate your release as guest Paul claims at 14:13. There are other things guest Paul said that sent my skepticism meter off the chart. But I don’t want to make this a novel. I do believe guest Paul was in a Thai prison. But there is a lot he said that does not pass the sniff test.
I had similar thoughts, so I looked around and found a man name Paul Cardwell, also from Indiana, and also ran hospitals, who was arrested in Hua Hin in 2013 after fleeing the US when he was charged with embezzling $1.7M from the two hospitals he ran between 2003 - 2010. Now I can't say this is the same Paul with 100% certainty, but they sure do look alike and the similarities in backgrounds makes me wonder.
Would not surprise me, this guy has a jailhouse con man ambiance for sure.

Used a relative's passport to run to Thailand while awaiting charges here in the US. Spent time and stolen money in Pattaya before buying land and living large in Bangkok. Locals ratted him out. Arrested and extradited to US, convicted and served several years in prison.
