2024 Yamaha MT-09 | First riding impressions from the press launch in Lanzarote | Raw Ride Review

- I am happy to report that the new Yamaha MT-09 improves on pretty much everything that could have been disliked in the previous gen 👍
The most important improvement to me is the revised riding position and the fuel tank design which make you feel much more integrated in the bike (I would say it feels just as natural as my XSR900 which is a good thing) 😊
The rider interface has been improved as well and makes a lot more sense with the riding modes now. The bike feels light yet more planted and is pretty confidence inspiring. The engine as always is a blast 💥
The design is always a matter of personal taste. But I think the new MT-09 gets a lot right here too while still looking like a distinct bike. And midnight cyan looks beautiful on all the MTs, no matter if in light or bright daylight. 😍
Overall, I feel they nailed it and I can imagine that the MT-09 can finally be back to meet the market potential it has 🔥

Awesome man! Been waiting for a video like this to drop. So exciting to see the bike outdoors and not in a showroom. Looking forward to seeing future reviews! I'll be getting the SP when it arrives in Australia in June. Ride safe legend and thanks again for the video. 🤝
Smart choice for the experienced rider - the SP, for me as well ☺🏁
@@SirMountainpass I was told that the upgrade is well worth the money. That being said, I thing if you don't ride on the knifes edge all the time, the standard does the job as well ;-) And we didn't go slowly, I can say that.
Thanks for the nice words. Glad to be of assistance. It does not cost a lot for me to do a video for that so I am happy that it is appreciated even though there is no actual riding footage.
I'm in Australia too, I'm tempted by the new MT09 for sure as it seems its going in the right direction. But I think I'm gonna wait for the new R9
Honestly looks better outside in a showroom
have been waiting months for any new footage of the bike ...can't wait for more 😮
there will be a lot more from all the press very soon ;-)
It's finally here! Can't wait for the SP.
Let's say it's on the way. This is a bike from the international press launch and as such it will still be some weeks before it actually arrives in the market. The SP should be here in may...
Just ordered mine last Saturday in blue. Can’t wait. Dealer said it should be here in April.
Great! I'm sure you will not regret your choice =)
Thank you for the Video mate. 💪
Thanks for your appreciation. You are very welcome ;-)
The aesthetic design of the motorcycle is visually appealing, and I eagerly anticipate the upgraded SP model as a successor to my current MT-07, which I have owned since 2016. I had the opportunity to observe the motorcycle at the bike show in November.
It really is 🥰 and riding it makes it even more appealing 😄
Thank u so much for this video🤟. I have ordered mine, and can't wait to get it. Can u pls make more video's with this bike ?😎
You are very welcome! I will try to upload new content asap. But it will likely not be before the market introduction. We'll see ;-) I hope you get yours soon, you certainly made a good choice IMO ;-)
Hey buddy, thx for Video. When you will get the Bike estimated
Much much beautiful then others MT 09
I'll be getting the SP !!! i order It , idk when it comes in the netherlands!!! Nice Video!!! i hope in June
I hope in March for me!!!
Thanks =) Might even be may. But of course I can't promise.
Whainting this model in my country🇧🇷. Thaks for your video👊🏻✊🏻🚀
Will it be sold in BR too? You are welcome =)
I ordered mine a week ago, can't wait for it. Now if only I could find a shield for my helmet that matched the cyan rims.
New UI is awesome!!
Yes, much better than before
The modern look of XSR 900.
Great video!
Thank you Wouter 😊
Cant wait man !!!
I can understand. I can't wait to test it on more twisty roads in Switzerland ^^
Nice video, the bike looks great! How did the new left control switches assembly feel? Was it good quality, or did it feel cheap? I order mine last December so can't wait to get it.
I think fairly good. The haptics are good in my opinion. The finishing is okay if not as nice as for example a TRACER 9 GT+. But that's only fair given the competitive pricing. The flasher operation is nice but you have to get used to it IMO. But overall it's a big improvement.
@@swissDragonrider that is clear, and yes indeed the tracer 9 gt+ is quite a bit more expensive.
Nice video , you’re very good mate :)
Am I? Well thanks a lot =)
@@swissDragonrider yes you are! Very precise in the description and quick to publish this first contact video:)
@@riccardo7945 Glad to read that. I forgot about a couple of details (like the cruise control which is standard) but I wanted to give a short overview about the most important things.
@@swissDragonrider yeah that’s a very nice to have without extra money. I think Yamaha has done a good job of keeping the price down in relation to what it offers. The sp model for example has excellent standard equipment for the money.
The competition like the Ktm 990, almost seems like a joke. At 15+k€ ( here in Italy) it doesn't even offer quick shifter, cruise and other essential electronic packages. But offers a JJuan brakes sistem...🤦🏻♂️
Yamaha deserves a credit this year
@@riccardo7945 I agree with you. The package you get for the price is quite incredible. Gen 3 was held back by the polarizing design which was a pitty. Now with the new design and the improved ergonomics, I think Yamaha should be in a good position to challenge the Z900 in this class.
Oh, machst jetzt Karriere als Motorrad-Tester? Impressions from the press launch? Grossartig - gratuliere.
first video I see of it in rl FINALLY BROOOO
Thanks for review 💪 I thinkbtrade my bmw f900r for this one 🤗
Lovely bike. I have no idea when itll arrive in the Philippines
Just SAD that ALL THE UNIQUE SELLING POINTS of the MT-09 got eliminated. In 2023, it was the last upright naked bike that people over 1.85 m (6.1feet) could still right comfortably on, that didn't look like an insect but like a Transformer and that still had a subframe/pillion footrests with luggage attachment points, as well as the option of fitting a windshield.
I like every of the other Transformer light masks in the MT series better than this new one. For the GEN 3 to 2023, Givi and Shad had hard case mounts for larger cases, than on a standard GS in their linup and you could attach a large windscreen to the light mask. The subframe load capacity has been removed from the MT-10 from 2021 to 2022 and now from 2023 to 2024 for the MT-09 as well. It's a pity that none of the reviews mention this.
If the display becomes so large that it protrudes forward over the light mask, you can no longer retrofit a windscreen. Who convinced the manufacturers that naked bikes have to be made for the racetrack? I've been riding an MT-09 for 30,000 kilometres in 2.5 years and love this engine.
With in the everyday usability gone, the last real UJM is unfortunately dying in my eyes.
The riding position is not so different after all. It's still pretty upright. I found it to be much more comfortable when comparing to the last gen. And there are plenty of options for customization too. But if you are happy with Gen 3, that is great too =)
@@swissDragonrider The riding position is more changed than every commercially available (and allowed in germany) bar riser or footpeg lowering kit could compensate for, to get it to the last gen ergo-dimensions.
It's a significant change.
@@thorstenmetalhead9666 He rode it and says otherwise. Get over it.
I tell you what man these things are expensive though. Over $2k price increase. Almost 30% increase. I am glad I picked up the gen 3 when I did because it's a great value and I could not afford a gen 4. Picking up a 3rd gen would be a great move right now.
In Switzerland it’s only 100 more expensive in comparison to the last gen last year. Of course the prices of the older models have now been lowered.
450€ more expensive in Europe.
please do more video about this bike. thank you
I'll try asap when I get my hands on the bike again.
Bin sehr gespannt!
Looks very nice 👌
WE RIDE... NOT DRIVE Motorcycles. Your on top of it, not in it! Just an FYI.
When can we expect full reviews to come out? Is there an embargo?
Very soon. Journalists and specialised media take a bit more time for editing than my spontaneous unscripted video, haha.
What's with the ugly gap between the saddle and the subframe?
Merci fürs Video! Ha lang ufs nöie Modell gwartet
Sehr gärn! Wird ds Warte sicher wärt si (zumindescht vo mir us gseh) ;-)
How about MT10 2024 ?
how is the new sound of the bike to the rider from that sound channels they put , are they really make difference ? thank you for the review !
Very good! On the outside, it's not actually too loud so you won't annoy the hell out of your surroundings but on the bike, it sounds nice. I have to say, we went a bit fast at times and since it's a naked bike, the wind noise on the helmet will engulf all the nice CP3 music at some point. But it is generally a nice edition to have the channels.
thank you so much for the answer happy to hear that. I am hoping for sound to be satisfying enough to me that, it can save me from putting an exhaust ,currently using 2021 MT/07 and it sounds terrible with stock exhaust and since its illegal here to put one fingers crossed ride safe and take care thanks again for the review . @@swissDragonrider 👍
What is the hole in the frame? Covered up with a rubber plug
Where do you get yours? In Germany we must wait till April. My Dealer dont get it before
This is from the international press launch. As a db representative, I was able to ride it along with the journalists. It will be march/april until it launches in european markets. It will be worth the wait ;-)
Oh ok thank you
Any info about how to opererate heated grips? Is it in the menu somewhete? Thanks for the vid💪
Nope, heated grips are optional and will be operated with a distinct switch on the grip itself.
@@swissDragonriderThank for the reply👍 And that is a sad news..We have to buy OEM grips then....
@@NastyMosquito Well, it was to be expected for that price point.
@@swissDragonrider The price is higher than gen.3 by 15%...I know, infla, covid etc...I think Yama want to force us to buy OEM grips but I guess there is many of aftermarket ones, with built-in controller for ½ Yama's price...Anyways, lovely bike and ugly front as f**k but I've ordered one anyways🤣🤣🤣
@@NastyMosquito Well, not here in Switzerland. Are you sure that it's not only because they lowered the price for the "old" model for this year?
Yeah, the Yamaha OEM grips might not be the best option. I have Daytona heated grips on my XSR900 and I am pretty happy with them.
Haha, I think you will grow to like the front at some point. Trust me ;-)
any improvements on the frame?
😮❤❤
Monsters of Torque 😈
(Friendly) Monsters of Torque ;-)
How's the vibration at the handlebar at various RPM? I rode an older MT that had high frequency buzzy vibration.
I did not really pay attention to this but the fact that I did not notice anything should say clearly that there were no issues with it IMO ^^
Did they also get SP models for the press launch?
No, not yet…
is the chassis frame
stronger than the v3?
It says "revised engine-mount brackets for stability". Other than that I cannot really say, sorry.
Does a 2023 aftermarket exhaust and a short license plate tail fit on the 24' you think?
I'm not sure. The exhaust might be difficult because of EURO 5+. But your local dealer will know or be able to find out. The license plate holder should fit i think.
thank god for the Yt algorithm, I'm now like 90% sure that I want to buy the 2024 mt-09
I hope you dont mind me asking,
but are the brake lines plastic ones or steel braided (or whatever they are officially called in english) how are the brakes over all if you prefer doing more of a sport-y kind of riding? I'm not the biggest fan of nissin brakes tbh.
also thank god for the different themes, I'm not a big fan of that "triumph style" one. Over all it looks like the perfect middleweight bike atm. I hope that Öhlins will soon give us the option to get the rear shock.
It's always a bit hard for me to judge about super competitive evaluation of components. However, I feel like the brakes are doing a nice job (I was also told be the actual journalist that they feel improved). Ever since Yamaha added the radial master cylinder, I feel like the overall feeling really improved. That being said - the MT-09 SP will also feature Brembo Stylema Brake Calipers. So if you are anyway considering getting the SP, you should be golden. And yeah, it's an incredible package for a "middle weight".
@@swissDragonrider yeah I know the SP would be actually the no brainer option, amazing brakes, suspension but it also costs almost 15k compared to the 12,2k€ and as student its not so easy to save up if you dont have a bike haha. Austria is so expensive if you love bikes :(
maybe I do the more expensive part and get the normal one now and in 1-2 years trade it for a slightly used SP
What day was this hosted?
The first riding day was the 19th of february and the press launch is still ongoing
I think an aftermarket exhaust is a must
When you ride the bike, most of the sound will come from the induction noise which is pretty nice. The aftermarket exhaust is more a question of aesthetics in my opinion.
@@swissDragonrider agree , the stock can look terrible imo
@@mopedblade It certainly doesn't look "premium" but that is not a big surprise given the entire bike comes at a very competitive price
Gracias por el video.
De nada 😄
Improvements are to small for me to upgrade... Basically same engine same frame. They should of given the bike 10hp more to make it worth the upgrade
I understand your point. But that would mean redesigning the entire engine. Anyway, even though you might not need the upgrade, you can still go and test it and than compare it to your current bike ;-)
why you got a dutch plate
The european central of Yamaha is in the Netherlands and these are test bikes for the press test ;-)
Riding impressions???
I spoke about my impressions. I did not manage to record a video yet. I will probably do this in march.
No way 24 mt09
What do you mean? It certainly is the new one. The video was taken at the international press launch ;-)
@@swissDragonrider sorry I meant I didnt expect to see a review on one soo soon and I was excited
@@512460 Sorry for not giving any visual riding impressions. The "real" tests should be up very soon
@@swissDragonrider no it's okay I appreciate the upload I got to see a closer look at the bike in real life settings.
@@512460 Glad to be of assistence 😁
Awful Swiss accent
Finally someone speaking the truth. Thank you!
6:55 Yamaha really should have hired UI designer. That looks awful. Navigation part is tiny. Surrounded by black frame, which makes actual map even smaller. And there is so much unused space around. Terrible job.
There will be reasons for that limitation. It likely comes down to cost to keep the entire package in a competitive range. We really don't know much about why things are designed the way they are. But the UI both in Software and Hardware is a big improvment compared to the last gen.
@@swissDragonriderIs this map even usable? Or would you rather use your phone for navigation, despite having this feature integrated in the bike infotainment system?
Its 12000 euros bike.. for that price best for buck.. its about cp3 engine thats the fun of this bike
@@aressimbamt0959I get it, but all the necessary parts are already there. All they needed is to improve GUI layout. It's not expensive.
@@aressimbamt0959 I'm not sure why my original reply is not here, but OK...
Creating better GUI is not expensive. Unless they decided to add navigation at the very last stage of development and there was no time to rearrange everything. I believe it is a sensible expectation to have useable navigation if it is already there.
Cant wait for my 24 SP!! had to sell my 22 when I moved from CA to TN to escape communism.
