This can be modified for any budget. My mortgage was $1,300 a month and where I live one can barely rent a room for that amount. (Purchased the home in 1999 at much lower cost than what the house would go for today.) However, being a homeowner, I have bills this lady does not have. Property tax, homeowners insurance, etc. Plus one must put aside money for maintenance - window washing, gardener, emergency repairs, upgrades, etc. Plus I have two vehicles (will explain that later) and I paid cash for both of them. Ten years apart so there was a lot of saving going on and I didn't buy expensive vehicles, I had a 42 miles commute one way which took 2+ hours in each direction and I drive an average of 129 miles a day - 7 days a week. So a chunk went to gas, but that was when it was in the $3 range, not now where it's $6+ per gallon. Back to the two cars - I have always had two vehicles as as stupid as this sounds, this is the way insurance company actuaries calculate risk. If I got rid of the second car, my car insurance would almost double. Wrap your head around that. One car is a 2005 Honda Civic with 492,000 miles. I drove every one of them. Second vehicle is a 2014 Honda CRV and now I only drive 13 miles across the town I live in so much less mileage. Oh and I took my lunch to work every day with an occasional lunch out with coworkers once or twice a month. One needs to sit down and add up everything you spend money on and I mean everything. If you don't have an honest look at how you spend money, you will always be behind the 8 ball scrambling to stay afloat.

I miss you Jas, I miss seeing these more simple budget videos to remind me that I’m doing it right. It’s insane because when you’ve lived for 33 years like me without really doing it and you’re just starting, it’s almost like you need about 2 years of good, strong, rolling commitment to doing it in order to feel like you’ve got it, you know? I mean shoot, even our basic schooling took us 13 years! 😂 But like with a sport it got better after about the first 2 years.
