    Great video. I'm an instructor in Nova Scotia and offer encounter people getting a question wrong because of "legal" and "illegal" or "loaded" and unloaded". For anyone taking the test, make sure you read the question slowly. I often need to rephrase questions due to how they are written. Feel free to ask about a question. That is part of our job.

    I have been reviewing the material and will be doing my test next sunday.
    So far I would say most of the safety requirements make a lot of sense and I see folks exercising them in the situations where I have been around firearms.
    That is with one E-xception. The 'E' In PROVE.
    Especially for air rifles, and for rifles in general I don't think I have ever seen someone take out a cleaning rod to "examine the bore" before handing it to another or declaring the firearm safe. Also looking down the barrel.... Not a great idea to examine the bore either.
    So with the exception of that, I think the course lays out a pretty good set of ground rules and can help keep folks S-A-F-E!
    To offer an alternative:
    S = S-ight the gun towards the Safest direction
    A = A-mmo must be removed to prove safe
    F = F-eeding path must be checked/verified
    E = E-nsure the chamber is empty

      I actually have a question with regards to the course materials. in my case, I'm taking the Restricted course on Sat/Sun and then immediately taking the non-restricted/hunting course immediately after on Mon/Tue/Wed/Thur/Fri. I have the Candian Firearms Safety Course manual, and the Hunter Education (Part B) manual. Are these the only books I need to do both courses? I'm concerned about showing up without the proper materials.

    • @adamsulis99
      @adamsulis99  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your Firearms Safety course is the one with the Blue cover, you're good to go. The Restricted course starts halfway through the book - after the non-restricted. If you have the old green cover version, you still have time to pickup the blue one at any DNR (E&RD) office, or download the electronic one to your phone or tablet. You can get by in class without the book, but it's a really good idea to review the material in the evening, just to help organize it in your head. We have a very high pass rate, the way the course is presented, so you'll probably be more-than-fine :)

      WIth instructors from multiple backgrounds, and different knowledge-sets, wrong info does creep in. I've been corrected, and I've corrected other instructors (privately, of course). Some of the questions, though, are a bit ambiguous, and I can think of one question in particular where the answer on the written test does not match the handgun I have on the table.

    To anyone doing their CFSC & CRFSC written exam, the exams are actually super easy for someone who has no base knowledge of firearms. It's mainly common sense and you'll only be tested on what the instructor says in the class. The exams are true/false and there is 50 of them. Read the questions and pick the first answer that comes to your head don't over think them. Majority of questions on mine were " how to safely store a firearm at home or during transport " Or name this type of ammo and there will be a picture. Really easy stuff just pay attention during the slides.. i didn't even use my book. BTW you WILL be tested on the types of actions for non restricted and restricted, such as break action, bolt action,semi,lever,muzzle loader, pump and for restricted single,double,double only.

  • @DavidLee-tz1sc
    @DavidLee-tz1sc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If your instructor is doing his job you should not fail the written. You may fail the practical if you're not confident in applying your learned material but I think anyone who paid attention should pass the written no problem.

    • @adamsulis99
      @adamsulis99  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on David. The manual covers everything on the written. The instructors just provide a (hopefully) less boring way of describing the same info, as well as adding some real-world hints and knowledge that can be used on the range, and for the test.

  • @SneezingFit

    Hello again Adam. I was reading through the safety course manual again and one of the test questions has me confused.
    "All air, spring or gas firearms must be treated like firearms and must apply
    ACTS/PROVE. True or false?"
    The manual specifically mentions air guns and says they are supposed to be PROVE'd safe every time they are used. I'd assume gas firearms are similar since they also have high power. But spring weapons wouldn't be as strong and aren't mentioned at all. So would the answer to this question be false because of spring firearms being mentioned?

    • @adamsulis99
      @adamsulis99  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's an awesome question. Some of the questions are confusing, and if you read too much into it, you can get the wrong answer, and that sort of applies here. In order to be considered a "firearm", it has to have a muzzle velocity of greater than 495 feet-per-second. (of course, anything that looks like a firearm is considered one, if used to intimidate or commit a crime, but that's not what this is about)
      Spring firearms are generally less powerful than compressed air or gas, for sure, but the answer they're looking for on this review question is "True". Their reasoning is in Section 3.4(c), where they say that "many" air guns are included in the Firearms Act, then they do make a bit of a leap from that statement to the next one where they say "all" must be treated as firearms, when it comes to safety.
      I guess it's a simplification - rather than saying "I have three air rifles, two have to be treated carefully and one less-carefully", it's a good bet to treat each one as very dangerous. You know that a paintball gun or airsoft can poke an eye out, but other than really hurting, cannot really do a lot of damage to skin. A pellet or BB rifle, however, due to the small pellet, can easily pierce skin, even below 495fps.
      The safest bet is to treat them with the same level of safety, even if they don't all fall under the legal definition of a firearm.
      I hope that didn't make the question worse :)

    • @SneezingFit
      @SneezingFit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamsulis99 Perfect response. I assume the best case scenario in this questions is to consider all firearms a potential danger and treat them with high levels of safety. I'll keep that in mind tomorrow, thank you.

    Do i get using phone for translate english during test?

    • @adamsulis99
      @adamsulis99  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As early as you can during the course, when the instructors have a minute, take them aside and tell them that you could use some help translating the written test - ask if you can use your phone (offer to show them the app or website you would use).
      The instructors may or may not allow it (a phone has access to a lot more information, and it is hard to ensure that it's only being used for translation!). If the instructors prefer, they may opt to help you write the test, orally. In that case, the two of you will be away from the rest of the test-writing students, and he or she will be available to read or re-describe the questions for you, so you understand them.
      A lot of what they will be able to do depends on how big and busy the class is, and how many instructors are available. Definitely talking to the instructors as early as possible will give them time to think of the best way to get you through your test.
