When Dwight " breaks character" I think you are reading that wrong. I take it as more of a...Jim, this isn't about work. I need you as a friend.. moment. It brings my mind to when Dwight reached for Jim on the stairs after Angela dumped him, but he was already gone. He is showing that same kind of vulnerability
Yes! Plus Dwight has really grown to consider Jim a friend at this point. This is a man who really needed his friend for some advice. I do love that moment between the two.
Woah! That scene about Phillip and the day care is so not on the Netflix version of old. I just can’t even … wow… it’s way more unsettling. Also yes, I will miss these field guides so much! You did good, kid!
First off let me say thank you! Your Office Field Guides has become my lunchtime ritual and one of my faves on TH-cam! Great job And in regards to this episode, thank you for pointing out the whole Angela waiting to tell Dwight about Phillip! Every time we watch it I say to my wife thats such a pyscho move on her part! (Angela , not my wife is the psycho lol) I'm so glad I'm not alone in thinking that! Again thank you for this wonderful series
Revealing that Dwight was just pretending to be stupid the entire time at the end of the show, honestly seems like a joke that you would expect out of a parody.
I always took it as Dwight maturing in both common sense and his friendship with Pam. He knows Jim and Pam almost broke up and he’s playing along with AARM to help in the little way he can
Mulverine I have been watching your channel for a while and have been subscribed for about as long, I never realised how little subscribers you have because your production value is so great keep on the grind brother and I can see 1m+ subscribers in your future.
From the moment i first time saw one of your office guides i fell in love with your content and started to keep track on every new episode Great work man! And does anyone else finds video titles confusing on this channel? I feel like ,,office field guide”should be first in line xd
That's what was in an original story draft. But it would have been nice for them to put that in the actual show. We can infer that Angela probably never had sex with the senator and thus knew Dwight was the father. But in universe, in canon we have no way to know why the DNA test was wrong.
Wait what you mean never saying this again? You mean to tell me you are not going to go back and start over from episode 1? That's what I do when I reach the last episode.
There is a history of Dwight treating Angela as “breeding stock”, so I buy the concept that Angela wanted a more personal gesture from Dwight before she would commit to him. We know he always cared for her, but repeatedly failed to express it clearly. I thought it was one of the better story arcs of season nine.
i agree. Dwight has matured enough by this point to state what he really wants and how he feels, and conversely, it took Angela hitting rock bottom for her to drop some of that tight-ass pride. Sure, she's awful, but he isn't innocent either, willingly cheating with her while she's engaged to Andy and married to Robert.
I agree 100% with your take on Angela at the end. I know it was because of writers indecision on where Dwight would end up (on the farm in his own series without Angela vs. how the series actually ended). But as portrayed it makes Angela an objectively bad person for appearing to hide her knowledge of Phillips true paternity.
I was a 100% sure from the moment philip was born that he was Dwights son The DNA test ep was a sham anyway, seemed pretty obvious to me And this episode interaction between Dwight and Philip made it clear even to the average fans i think that they are Father and son without a doubt. Was only a question of Angela publicly admitting the same. Idk never felt she did a bad thing bcz it was so blatantly obvious that Philip was conceived before Angela had a reln with senator and was definitely born way earlier than when it was publicly told.
well if i may answer why dwight "puts on a facade", there are a few reasons. A) reality television it's a bit of a phenomenon where real people put on facades for the TV audience so that it makes for better television or B) dwight does this to get people to underestimate him. which as the series has shown, he has good reason to do. on a very fun note, it has been shown that the only person dwight never figured out is michael, as demonstrated in the episode where michael goes missing [again] and dwight, holly and erin are looking for him. this is why his and michael's relationship is so strained in the middle part of the show. dwight is frustrated by his inability to understand michael, who is a complete enigma to him.
I just recently did a full review of the office and once that was done, I went straight to community because it was the only thing that would fill the void
First time watching. Thank you algorithm I've read that your next field guide is going to be Community (love it). It would be cool if you could do a Brooklyn 99, too
I'm okay with Dwight breaking and knowing Jim was messing with him because one of the main themes of season 9 was Dwight maturing and developing as a character. He probably caught on slowly but surely, and the AARM was completely over the top.
Jessica St Clair is great in "Review with Forrest McNeil." She plays Andy Daly's wife in it. Great cult classic Comedy Central half hour show that ran for 3 quick seasons so it's a fast binge.
Very glad angela gets called out here for keeping Philip away from Dwight. The office ladies podcast tried to rationalize her behavior here and too me came off kinda strange.
Angela getting this fairytale ending was one of the very few things about the ending of The Office that I never cared for. Angela was not a good person. And even when she did show some growth she still lied to Dwight about Philip. Which wasn't just bad for the obvious reasons, but also bc she was willing to be effectively homeless w/ her son (if not for Oscar) bc her pride was more important than telling Dwight the truth
yeah makes total sense that a head of accounting would be homeless. The writing sucks. Just ask the Senator's original son who just went away because reasons. The writers stopped caring about season 5.
@@adamp6320 yeah I wish they had shown something that explained why she had such insane money problems. Even if it's something stupid like her having a habit of buying extravagant and expensive things for her cats or something. Michael's bankruptcy arc was explained nicely with Oscar's presentation into his financials, I don't understand why they couldn't do something similar with Angela.
@@frosty_teacup Childcare costs thousands of dollars a year - just because she's making the same salary as when she was single before doesn't mean that she has the same expenses. Especially if she had to pay for a moving truck, the deposit on a new apartment, etc....
@@raspar6 she was with the senator (*state senator) before, so I assume they either shared costs or he paid for Philip's costs. But she immediately became homeless after breaking up with the senator. She wasn't able to get Philip into childcare at that point, and hadn't begun to incur any other expenses like a home rental because, again, she was looking to live out of a tent. Had she saved up literally nothing in her life? How do you get to that condition the second the senator (state) drops you? I don't know if I'm missing something since it's been a minute since I've watched the show, but it still doesn't make sense to me.
@@frosty_teacup We know that Philip was in childcare because he wasn't with her at work everyday. It was only towards the end of that arc that he got kicked out of childcare and she brought him to work with her, and that was for a day I think. There are clips of Angela in her apartment with her cats. It was only when she failed to pay rent, several months in, that she got kicked out and was looking at tents.
Second last episode... strong arming your way into the zeitgeist with some harmful steam. The only problem with this episode is Nelly getting to dance with Darryl. She has no history with these people. She didn't deserve to be involved in deciding Darryl's last minutes in the office. Neither did Dwight Jr. I mean, they had to be in the episode somewhere I guess...
I would love to see you review a vanity project by Lord of the Dance Michael Flatley called Blackbird. It is genuinely the real life Threat Level Midnight and one of the most unintentionally funny movies ever made.
What do you mean it wasnt the writer fault for this weird time the show ended?they killed the office at the end. It didnt deserve this slow burn. I could never re watch beyond season 6 lol.
Andy's story sucks. Just completely. I hate it. All of it. Pam's drama feels too little too late. The entire point of the seasons arch was Jim wondering if he was being held back and trying to push himself for the first time; after the resolution is the wrong time for second thoughts. And the excuse for a clip show bugged me more The Banker ever did. These guys couldn't help when laws were being broken and people were being assaulted but to help a sappy married couple love each other even more, yeah that's the hill to die on. Darryl's story was fun and I appreciate Dwight's arch although I hate the reveal about Phillip for the same reason. But the dance scene was great. It's fine yet again.
