This video has some solid answers for dealing with a standing opponent when you are on the ground. These are what I feel are high-percentage, helpful techniques for getting to a better position. The main focus is on sweeps in order to create opportunity to get back to standing, but I also include a couple of submissions.
These are applicable with minor modifications and considerations to sport, self-defense and MMA. I hope you find some usefulness in them. Thank you for watching, sharing and subscribing!

One of the best solutions I've seen is the De La Riva X guard that Charles Oliveira uses. I've played with it a lot in my sparring and it's great for tying them up so they lose mobility, but keep them unbalanced so they can't throw bombs. It really turns the tide so the person on the bottom is now the offensive position, and the person on top's best moves mostly involve escaping.
The other sweeps are great and I've gotten a lot of use from them, but a lot of times, the issue is the opponent's mobility compared to the guy on bottom and when you can't control their mobility they have a lot of ability to just drop into your guard with heavy bombs or worse, against a cage, start stacking you where you can't move your hips because you are pinned. The De La Riva X guard seems to be more effective at dealing with those issues. Also, because your opponent has to work a lot harder to escape it, if they do pull free, it makes it easier to do a technical stand up because they are more committed to getting freed.
