I’m a 150 lb purple belt. I use knee on belly all the time. It’s my favorite way to control big guys especially. I usually setup a darce or an arm bar. Thanks for all the great ideas and reminders of submissions I’ve forgotten to use.
Your videos have a really good pace for those of us who are intermediate players. You dont waste time with long introductions and going through every detail of a technique. I like the rapid fire pace. Dont change a thing.
I have only been taking jujitsu for 1 year before the pandemic and I have been trying to find the deadlift back take since the pandemic started. This guy is great at describing how to do it. Thank you sir
Your videos, especially the ones like this with various submissions from the more common positions, have vastly jump-started my game. As an early white belt I notice so many holes in my game where I just blank from not knowing what to do but just watching these videos slowly, pausing after each demonstration and practicing with a partner, has really given me some structure and a game plan for when I roll. Then testing things out in the gym, getting some fine tuning from my coach and other upper belts helps me iron out my mistakes. And now I have my first stripe! Your videos are super helpful, thanks for the knowledge!
I just wanted to let you know that your videos played a part in me taking first place in the SouthWest NAGA tournament held in Phoenix a few months ago. I competed in the white belt adult 168lb weight division and took gold...I also competed in the open weight division and took 2nd and I had to defeat some absolutely massive opponents!! After that tournament I was given my blue belt, thanks for your dedication to these videos. However the main point of this post is directed at one of the moves you showed on this video of which I have been trying to pull off when rolling for the past few months. The move where you go for a kimura and then transition into the leg scissors across the neck choke. I have been trying for months during Gi BJJ and never got it to work, tonight I decided to try it during no Gi and I got it to work 2 times on separate opponents!! They never saw it coming and were like WTF was that? Thanks again, your vids are super teaching tools!!!
Hey eli, I've been watching your videos for a long time now and you're the only reason I'm not tapping out every 3 seconds in class anymore haha. Also, I got my first submission on a guy where I did a komura from side guard after studying your videos. I just wanted to say thank you so much for making these videos and keep doing what you're doing. Love your content!
I absolutely love you and your videos Eli! You are awesome and have helped me with numerous moves in my bjj journey (been trainin for bout 9 months now) thanks so much and keep up the good work!
Man your videos suck! It makes me want to be rolling with you guys every day, huuuuuge fan of your channel! Your material is pure gold. Keep up with the good work brother. Oss!!
I like that kimora grip to leg scissor so many times I've had people defend till time runs out. If only i knew that technique to soften them up to finish either kimora or sneaky choke.
As always... incredible pedagogics from your side along with great technique! I always click to watch when one of your new videos pop up in my notification bar and gladly watch with attention! Would it be possible to ask if you could consider making a short video showing drills that include basics movements and transitions? Best regards, Mike
Thank you very much! And yes, something like that is very possible. In fact, I’m working on putting together a more comprehensive learning portal where I break down more basics. It would be more helpful of a training companion for people needing an online resource of that nature instead of these TH-cam videos where I rush through several techniques.
Superb teaching as usual. I have to say I would like to see you in no gi mixing submissions and ground and pound from knee on belly position. Something more oriented to mma/no rule contest, similar to what you already made about striking to takedowns. Maybe in the future... For now thanks.
Great suggestion and something I was kind of thinking after making this video. There was just so much from KOB, I decided to start here. Will definitely have more no-gi and mma applicable stuff from here in the future! Thanks!
1. Many of these (obviously not the collar chokes as much) you can do no gi 2. Escape a full nelson: th-cam.com/video/vfMHgEODn6k/w-d-xo.html 3. Half nelson...depends on the position and setup Thanks!
3:53 - Question: on the spinning far side armbar, is it possible for the training partner to roll out of that if the top person lets go of the pant material around the outside knee too soon? I also might be missing some details in your application, like knees connecting tightly and such, so that it may not matter. Thanks in advance.
Thanks man! From knee on belly, it depends on the individuals involved, but typically the highest percentage sub I see from here is the far side arm bar stepping around.
I am a black belt under Royce Gracie, and he along with the Valente brothers have adopted the blue sleeve instead of red to distinguish themselves and their students from the IBJJF.
My kids learned pass guard to knee on belly last week. And this week opposite side armbar was added. They were surprised when I tapped. They asked if it hurt and I told them no Matter the size of your opponent. You can hurt them with good technique. B to always go easy on joint locks. They could really Hurt someone. But they were happy they made dad hurt.
Hey, I have a question which I would be greatly appreciative if you could answer or maybe even make a video for. I know you have made videos about sweeps and things to do from having others in your guard, however, they never seems to work for me. Are there special things specifically to do vs lighter weight opponents or vs larger opponents that make sweeps different? I just this weekend received my first stripe on my white belt, I'm 6'1" 190lbs, so I'm not the smallest guy in the guy, but some of those 230+lbs guys are tricky to sweep or do certain things to, also I've been doing bjj for 2 months now. Thank you in advance! Love all your videos :)
There aren’t necessarily different technical mechanics of the sweeps for larger opponents. But bigger people are just typically going to be harder (especially when they know how to use their weight), because you can’t force the move if your technical precision is off. The Cliff’s notes answer is just train more reps of the sweep on a variety of bodies. I would add to that however, that to increase the success of any move, especially sweeps and reversals, is to get as much committed energy from the opponent as possible. The more committed the energy, the easier it is to determine and manipulate the direction the energy will travel. Hope that makes sense.
Knight Jiu-Jitsu I was going to comment they will sweep themselves but your comment sounds much better ha. I cling to bigger guys ( 140lbs here) and when they try to separate me I sweep or take their back. More take their back than anything.
Thank you so much. Makes a lot of sense. I'll keep that in mind tomorrow when I go back on the mats. Had an Ice Day today so everything in my city was closed, but back up and to training tomorrow. Starting to go everyday M-F and your videos really help in between keep the mental practice and keep thinking about bjj. Thanks a lot!
I get that question a lot, understandably. I’m a black belt under Royce Gracie and he, along with the Valente Brothers, use the blue sleeve to delineate themselves from the IBJJF. It is an homage to Helio Gracie.
Knight Jiu Jitsu I know this is knee on the belly attacks, but how do I defend a knee against the sternum? A brown belt put his knee against my sternum while pulling me upwards. It left me with a near traumatic experience because I felt a tiny crack in my sternum and I have a heart condition. I couldn't breathe well for a while because of the pain felt. Is knee to the sternum legal?
It is a "legal" move, and one to maybe expect to set up a legit technique, but still very inconsiderate of that brown belt to do to you in training. You generally have to expose something in attempting to escape this position, but check out the escape I show in this video at this mark: th-cam.com/video/S_vtppaNxoc/w-d-xo.html and it might help. It is hard to describe other things in writing right now.
@@KnightJiuJitsu Thank you very much. I just saw the video on the link. The part of the leg wrap escape gives me an idea of how to escape the next time it happens. If I prevent the knee on the sternum with the leg wrap the next time it happens (if it happens again) and it works I may have to consider owning you a life debt. Thankfully after visiting the chiropractor, there wasn't anything too serious to the sternum. I thank God that nothing happened and I thank you for the reply and for reminding me why I subscribed to you. Oss.
You have to be one of the best jiu jitsu teachers ever!
Thank you!

Me, a newly minted blue belt, watching this black belt voodoo magic is fire. I will try (and fail many times) to pull off some of this amazing stuff.
😍 Thank you for this.
Super cool and you explain them so well 👍🏽

It’s absolutely possible and the suggestion is appreciated! Thanks!
I have three Defense questions 1 can you do this no gi 2 can you show how to Escape a full Nelson 3 Also how to escape a half Nelson
1. Many of these (obviously not the collar chokes as much) you can do no gi
2. Escape a full nelson: th-cam.com/video/vfMHgEODn6k/w-d-xo.html
3. Half nelson...depends on the position and setup
Thanks!
Knight Jiu-Jitsu I Have another question How would you handle against a Thai clinch

basic but golden, with good detail
Thanks!
This is some Black Window Marvel stuff here.
This is awesome
Nice!! 👍👍
When doing the switch knees arm bar. After you rotate on the base knees. Looks like you could leg triangle???
Absolutely possible, but just depends on where the bottom guy's arm winds up on the turn.
My kids learned pass guard to knee on belly last week. And this week opposite side armbar was added. They were surprised when I tapped. They asked if it hurt and I told them no
