    L. Bishopi (red widow) is also native to Florida where I am at. Found this video because I got a L. Geometricus (brown widow) from my garage that I take care of now. I'm looking to rehouse her soon and this video definitely helped. She seems to be a bit faster than L. hesperus, but I'm feeling good about it. Thanks!

The black widow spiders in Florida are the most laid-back, slow-moving spiders I've seen. I find them frequently in upside down buckets and flower pots, and other dark spaces.

Yes there’s the fear about them, this one has meandered onto my hand when doing maintenance on a couple occasions. However that one time is a doozy if it happens!

Hi biggs, nice video, cool enclosure too, we dont have any latrodectus over here, we have Steatoda nobilis, which is known as the noble false widow, several years ago, anyone who was bitten doing anything, in a shed, in the garden, wherever, it was blamed on the widow and they got a bad name, apparently causing fingers to fall off, amongst other ailments, i love them, have several at home in my collection, and as with any spider, tarantula, you treat them with respect, you dont get bit.

      Hey Sean!
Yeh, the false widow reporting caused way to much panic here. I have a girl, the only spider I'm (kinda) allowed to keep. I was lucky enough to see her build her egg sac recently.

@@amyesworldcatherinesminime7945 Oh you get them there too, yeah it was stupid crazy here, every time anyone got bitten in the garden, house it was blamed, stupid really, we know they don't just bite for no reason. Yeah mines laid 2 so far, I just remove and put in the shed.

@@seansspoods9521 Well according to the British Arachnological Society, none have been recorded in Fife, and very few in the whole of Scotland. There were loads in our flat in England. I know some stowed away in our camper van and probably in our large plant pots, maybe even some of the boxes we packed early on.
We won't be the only ones who have brought them here.

Cool video, Chris. I wish we had these guys so that I could keep one as well lol. I saw some coffin enclosures at the last show I was at but they were huge and made of glass. Still pretty cool though. That made me want to go out and catch myself an orb weaver for my desk lol

I use 32 oz deli containers for most of my Latrodectus spp. but I do want to get some of these cooler looking ones in the future when I have more room for better displays. I also have the same shirt with all of the Latrodectus species on it but I wonder if it is from a knockoff third party as it is not as clear as yours.

I think I have one now, found a tiny sling in my bed a few nights back and threw it in a sling pot. Already took a fruit fly 10x it's size, molted, and came back and filled up again on it. Hesperus or mactans we shall see, pretty sure it's Latrodectus though, without even looking close lol. You see that paper where the males will mate with penultimate females, and put the sperm so deep they don't molt it off? Apparently they aren't in any danger that way because she won't eat them until after maturity and proper pairing.

      Wow!
We are on the furthest point of their range so I’ve never found one locally myself. Southern Alberta, Saskatchewan and southern Ontario more prevalent.
I did get bit on my hand by a spider a couple weeks back while in Toronto. Never saw it but the tell tale signs on my hand in the morning we’re obvious what it was. Localized swelling and intense itchiness lasted a couple days otherwise no issues.
      Thanks for sharing my friend

@@realmnatura You have the northern up there? That's all we had in Montana. I've supposedly got all 3 here, but I have to go north a bit for northern. I'm sure. Seen both the other 2 living in corners on the house lol. I just worry about the slings honestly, these seem to pack a punch to insects at any size, and they never seem to have an appropriate sized meal lol

@@realmnatura So far I've only seen one web in an enclosure that doesn't belong, but it's a little sheet weaver in a 4" P. pulcher lol, I think it can handle it. I'll be ripping apart enclosures if I start seeing cob webs probably 😂

When you mentioned 3 species of the Latrodectus genus is in North America, you forgot L. geometricus which is non native but unfortunately here in North America. They are displacing our native Latrodectus in portions of their range. I hope they do not out compete them completely.
