- I got a whole bunch of wood... so I have had a hard time keeping the water clear but its getting there... a new addition was a snowdrop pleco (in the beginning of the video) and a blue crayfish which is fascinating to watch (diddnt do much when i took the camera out obviously).
Anyways as always feel free to post comments and ask questions :)
This is the coolest aquarium I've seen in a long time. Man, I'm so jealous!
Tank looks amazing! Love the assortment of fish/shellfish!
An inspirational tank.
Such graceful beautiful fish you have.
I must say that your videos never cease to amaze me. Another perfect video. I wish I had a fire eel though, I am getting a job to get $500 for a 75gallon for a fire eel.
thanks dude... actually that is gar number 2... the other one jumped out for the last time and we found him way too late...! but this one is going strong ;)
The 300G is still a dream of mine that hopefully I will be able to make a reality soon!
Love the tank Its my dream setup cheers bud
yeah they are great looking fish :)
I previously had all of my fish growing up in a 55G... I had a filter equivalent to a fluval 305 on that tank and i struggled to keep the water clear... i eventually got a fluval FX5 and that worked perfectly on a 55g to keep the water good for up to 2 weeks (perfect for if you need to go on holiday and leave the tank).
you can of course run it with less, but then youll work a lot harder to keep the water right )
Congratulations! Luxury Fish:)
Nice tank. Good job. Keep it up
and my catfishes looked just like yours that they ate... LOL Wow, really you have a very nice tank man...
Really enjoyed that.
yeah they are more active at night, but as the eel grows bigger (and eats more) itll come out when it sees you to get food!... mine is always hanging around for food scraps! :)
good for you... they are great fish :)
The oscars look amazing! Such colours
thanks! hope you get your dream oneday :)
cheers... one of the perks of working in the music industry i guess ;)
hey cheddar... thank you for your kind words :)
Id love to get a 300G... right now I have to get that past the missus as shes not too keen on me going any bigger in this room to be honest... but yes, hopefully i will be soon :)
ya. it comes with a canister filter, and I think a canopy, but it also has a stand for it.
good lord! Great job!
thank you, I think its because his gill covers are under the sand, so he is breathing harder than normal
awesome ... sounds like itll be a good bargain :)
thanks... i do about 50% per week as it is to get the tannins out the water and becuase of the large bioload the fish produce.... the water here is very hard as it is so the wood is helping a bit ;)
I'm running two fluval FX5's at the moment which seems to be handling well... I like to overfilter so ill probably get something small just to pack full of carbon / zeolite and fine filter pads to scrub the water a bit more.... the tank I bought from an aquatics shop in kent... prebuilt... just had the stand in flatpack that I had to assemble. came with a nice T5 luminaire aswell :)
Hey,
The two smaller silver catfish are pimelodius pictus cats... the larger one is a sturio catfish (also a type of pimelodius)..
I had my fish all in a 55G for about 18 months... you can get away with it, but youll need very good filters or waterchanges everyday becuase of the sheer mess they make... I had a tetratec EX1200 & Fluval FX5 on my 55G and had to clean every couple of days as the fish were way too big for it... hope this helps :)
Awesome Cuz !!!
By the way nice crayfish, i really enjoy seeing my crayfish too xD
Hi thanks :)
Yeah thats a spotted gar... he should be fine for a while but ultimately he will need something bigger... becuase of their scales they cant turn very well so something with a lot of width is important for when hes bigger
the easiest way is to use Activated Carbon in your filters... that will strip any tannins out of the water... Purigen also works well at doing this job... after a few months of running the tannins will all leech out and you wont have many issues anymore :)
cool fish man!
fantastic tank!
man nice tank and song relaxing video
They look huge!!
They both very nice though the personality winner for sure is the fire eel... they become hand tame and are very intelligent... the birchir sleeps most of the time, has bad eyesight and isnt very clever... saying that he is still a great fish and im glad I have him :)
Id say go for the fire eel if you have the space (5ft tank +) and can only choose between one or the other...
aaah cheers dude :)
Its plain white riversand... very fine... bought two large bags of it (30kg) from my local fish shop when i set up the tank
cheers mate :)
wow, i've never seen such beautiful oscars before...
I'd say go for unusual stuff like butterfly fish, green puffers, reed fish, unusual small plecos and catfish (whiptail plecs, bristlenose etc...).
Theres a lot of smaller very interesting fish from the amazon that will do well in a planted 55G tank and itll look great too!
The fish I have will outgrow a 55G in about a year and they will soon outgrow my 150G!
wonderfull nothing more to say
hehe yeah hes pretty cool... i got one about 2 weeks ago... but there was a tiny hole he got out through and i cant find him... this new one is a bit bigger and ive covered all openings in the hood so holding thumbs he'll be good!
yeah thats a blue acara.... i got him a while ago and hes stayed... very good natured fish :)
so nice!
Hi beautiful fish I was wondering what kind of camara u are using I want my bids. To look that clear
thank you thats very kind of you... though ive seen loads of awesome setups on youtube that put mine to shame ;)
wow i always say that this is the best tank
thanks... im thinking of trying black silica sand next time i set up another tank :)
i use powerfull filters with high waterflow...
maybe get some powerheads and place them near the bottom to keep the crap off the floor so that it floats into the filters ;)
thank you :)
i no longer have that crayfish as he ate my snowball pleco! he was very cool though so i rehomed him with someone else.
He had all of his legs /arms.... though they will grow back if they break off when the crayfish sheds its skin... they start small and after a few sheds they are back to normal ;)
the system is very stable and i dont actually have to change that much water, it just looks much better and the fishes have a better appetite if I do... when i go on holiday i can leave the system for 2 weeks with no problems, waterchanges etc.... so its pretty stable... but looks a bit dirty after that amount of time of course ;)
Obviously very well looked after tank mate but it is definitely overstocked , beautiful fish though
depends really.... i have two fluval FX5's and 150gallon tank, so its around 50% X1 or twice a week 25% or so.... Ive had no problems with it affecting the filtration or water quality and have had the system running for 2 years... having said that ive kept fish for over 20 years now and havent ever had any deaths due to water quality (eating eachother yes hehe).
lol i always watch your videos, and i love them! and your approach on fishkeeping! oh and are you gunna get a 300 gallon tank? youve said so on previous videos.? lol because the tank is starting too look a lil cramped!
wow that sucks, it was such a nice pleco.
thanks :)
just another question how do you clean the waste at the bottom without sucking up any sand with a vacuum siphon
the fluval FX5 pushes out 3500litres per hour each... and the can hold 1.5g of media inside... they pretty big ass filters but ive always preferred to overfilter my tanks
i have no idea lol... you constantly buy stuff as you go along... got the snowdrop and the crayfish at a aquatics shop called "Waterlands" in dillywood lane, Rochester (kent UK)
Finally a new video Twicksisted! Really good looking!
It's a spotted gar, right?
Is it able to live its whole life in a 150g?
they take ages to grow... ive had mine for 3 years now... and i bought him about 2" and hes about 5" or so now (i havent actualkly caught him to measure)...
They get around 30-40cm long,.... not sure how long that is in feet / inches
yeah those eheims are very good filters ;)
thank you... I had to buy another one as my blue lobster ate the first one (blue lobster is living elsewhere now :P hehe
I dont really know what to say then... from my past experience this works fine with oscars (my first oscar was 20 years ago and ive kept many pairs)... I guess as is true with all cichlids they each have their own personalities...
I think another thing worth mentioning is that ive never fed my oscars live fish... the only live food they get is earthworms and river shrimp
wow i seldom see an oscar without hole in the head diseas. good job!
not sure i think around 40-50watts each... then i have the two 300watt heaters and the 2X 80Watt T5 lights... have no idea what it costs a month though
yeah they are my gentle giants...
ive had them with small fish since they were about an inch long so they dont see fish as food... only live river shrimp and pellets :)
woww, very nice tank, what are the catfish?
yes he jumped out the first time and we found him after a short while covered in hairs... he survived to jump out again...and fortunately survived... the third time we found him 3 rooms away in the kitchen totally dried to a crisp :(
They can survive out of water as they can breathe atmospheric air... but if they dry out completely then nothing will bring them back unfortunately.
its a Sturio catfish... looks like a shovelnose but its part of the pimelodius family... they only get about 12" or so... not 100% sure but they arent a large catfish species and very passive too
I i will have a 250L aquarium(i will have a turtle fishes and some plants).
what of these filters is best? fluval fx5 or eheim professional 3 2080
no, the oscars were bought after I had already had my catfishes and alge eaters in the tak. My oscars were bought when they was really small. They grew up in the tank with the other fishes that they ate.
a 55G tank is perfect for an oscar... and youll be able to keep a fully grown one in there fine...
but... I wouldnt add a crawyfish as in a small tank like that the O's attention would turn on the crayfish and he'd most likely eat it....
A stock list would depend on your filtration setup and what types of fish you want to keep together... oscars are very messy and you need a lot of serious filtration to keep the tank parameters fine.
when i found the sturio it was chewed up really badly... one eye out and the other popped with a missing gill cover and its nose hemorrhaging inside... loads of neddle marks all over :(
couldnt believe it as the sturio was twice his size!!! im guessing it was the silver that was glinting and he went for the shiny parts thinking it was small prey (eyes gill covers etc...)... either way ive lost a beautiful fish and am quite sad about it... hope to find another one oneday
hehe thanks si... ;)
see you thursday!
Damn u dine an amazing job I LOVE it but I must ask how do u keep such large oscars with small fish?
cheers :)
yeah im pretty pissed!!! not 100% sure it was the lobster that killed the L133 though... think it couldve suffered damage and was eaten dead or semi alive!
Yes i still have the royal though he hides a lot ;) hes about 4.5" now... taking ages to grow had him for 3 years the bugger :D
they work well together, the eels always been bigger so they never seen him as food... every now and then they give him a nip, nothing serious, just because hes bigger i guess ;)
Couldnt stand it, had to go back with the Oscars, they are just way to cool, looking good man keep it up. Oh yeah my FX5 is doing great to best filter ever.
bravo!
Very, very nice set up. Do you still have them? What size tank is that?
@ 0:59 is that an aligator gar? tank looks really cool
ya, it really is.
What is the fish that is buried in the sand?
Very nice tank/fish!!
yeah hes no longer in the tank... he was responsible for a very expensive pleco dying, so he went to someone else who is now keeping him in a tank with no fish :)
whats the music! thats so chill...
yeah the oscars dont actually eat as much as the gar!... that gar seriously packs it away ;)
be sure to post up vids when you get it dude :)
thats a sturio catfish... they dont grow all that big around 12" or so... unfortunately mine was killed by my spotted gar who was attracted by the silver on him and his eyes... quite sad about it as i loved that catfish :(
its a Sturio cat... (like a shovelnose catfish but smaller and from the pimelodius family)... unfortunately my spotted gar killed him!!! was very pissed!
i bought the fire eel about 1.5 years ago for around £30-40
Thanks, they eat hikari sinking carnivore pellets & bloodworms mostly
Hey in the description it says you got a lot of new wood and you have a hard time keeping the water clear? how do you keep the water clear? do you do water changes or add chemicals or something? to get rid of the yellowness that the wood makes?
superb
hey what do you call the fish swimming up against the glass at 3:09
what brand of sand do you use? nice tank
dosent sound normal... did it just appear or has it always been there?
i found that if an oscar, or oscars grow up in a tank without other fish they will be aggressive and territorial... did yours grow up with the catfish from young or were the catfish a newaddition?
also if your oscars were nesting the catfish could have been seen as a threat to their eggs / babies
will do... ;)
Excellent fish choice mate, What is the cat at 1:40 with the spots down his side? how big will he get?
