Are there girls in engineering? Is it common to see women in STEM? These are commonly asked questions and a lot of you want to know the answer, so you’ll find the answers in this video! Since I’m a guy, I obviously can’t answer them, so I asked my fellow engineering female classmates for their answers. Timestamps are as follows:

Yea fr you can not use this term (girl) in a channel that speak to engineers
Janeen that "Alhamdulliah profs are rude to both guys and girls" was awesome 😂
Equally disrespected.

mechatronics engineering student here, and the times there were more than 10 girls in them were so rare it's sad actually. but even more underrepresented than students were women professors.
it does feel like the younger generations of girls are choosing engineering, and it's heartwarming
Same, I am a mechatronics engineering student and there are less girls here.
me with no girls. so no girl engineering
Ngl I study mechatronics too in Europe but Im from Asia. The last woman I talked to in person is prolly my mom who sent me off at the airport 6 months ago lmfao

It’s because they all go to child development or psychology
I think there's more nerdiness in physics/pure science majors than in engineering.
Nice collab, Tamer.
There were a few in all my classes. I remember our professor asked the class about why there aren't more. One guy said they aren't good at math and he got booed lol. Two of the best engineering professors I had were women. They were very good at testing on material that they actually taught. So many male professors would teach on thing and test on totally obscure engineering problems.
😩 I'm sorry you had to deal with teachers like that. I know some of that pain. I had a Calc prof who liked to brag how half his students would fail the course and dude, that's a reflection on your incompetence as a teacher, not their inability to learn b/c they're special snowflakes or whatever prejudice he was trying to blame. We brought it to the Board, he didn't improve, and he has since been let go. I say this to give you some solace that things are slowly changing.
its hard to find the Engineering girls, and there is always stereotypes toward the engineering girls, I appreciated you produce tis video to make people understand no stereotype against the engineering girls.
I’m a girl in engineering lmao me and my bestie are civil engineers and my other girl friend is a mechanical engineer!!🥰🥰
Nice
Let’s go! I’m a girl studying mechanical engineering☺️

Mechanical engineering girl here✋🏻
I felt like I related mostly with Hosna. That advice of taking off from school for a while is one I took. Went one year in college for electrical engineering. I just wanted to be sure engineering is the route I want to take for my career. Now I've been working for 6 months. I'm still trying to find my passion. I am into mechanic... Thank you Hasna.
If you are a girl then I have a question for ya . why don't you gals find career in engineering?
Great idea. It's all about whatever works for the individual. I finished my first year (construction mgmt) and am now at a crossroads in terms of work. Thinking about picking up a trade, electricity or something like that.
I also want to pursue electrical engineering.
How was your experience?
Wow love this insight. I will start in about a month and a half as an engineer major. I was little scared of being a female in engineering. I love this makes me feel more comfortable of the environment.
I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I appreciate the advice you provide. Thank you.
I was lucky to be part of a mechanical engineering undergrad batch with a grand total of 3 girls 😂 We had the most girls. Of class of about 20 something.
this felt like a vice interview. glad to hear other people's experiences in engineering though
I am so happy I found this video. gives me more awareness over what to expect while studying civil engineering.
tamer shaheen my favorite youtuber, never stop uploading videos :D greetings from panama
I did materials engineering at uoft and i never realized there were so few of us, but we were only 23% of the class. I actually took a Process Simulation and Computer Design course in my fourth year where the total class size was 10 people, and I was the only girl 😅
23% is a lot. Rarely seen.
@@yashranjan it's a ratio of 5 to 1. chem and ece are much more balanced
This is amazing!!!! I don’t feel alone anymore.
I’m a female engineering student and I’m currently doing my degree in electrical and computer engineering.
It’s truly amazing to see other females doing different thematic areas around the world 🙏 what a brilliant video idea Tamer 👏🏻.
Electrical engineering females unite!!!!
I developed the passion for engineering since 5th grade. Completed high school and found out I love everything about mechanical Engineering. Went to University and OH boy the criticisms whenever I go to companies for internships were insane.
People ask me a lot of questions like I'm out of my mind for choosing that field.
I think it's basically because of my country. Gradually loosing my passion but I pray I find myself around people who will appreciate my field of studies
Good luck to all the engineering girls. You are amazing.
I’m a latina who just got her cs bachelors degree! I can relate , I made no female friends in class hahah
Felicidades! Im gonna be starting my CS journey in august
I'm a boy I also made no girl friends
and boy friends
I'm lonely AF
I just loved this!!!
Thank you for the video
I love this video it is so relatable
As a 25 years old female data engineer, I'm so prouuuud ❤❤❤❤
Adding my two cents to the advice section: The schools you go to care about their graduation rate, so they want you to do well and they have faith that you’ll do well. Keep pushing to all my fellow mechE students
In chemical engineering there are a lot of girls! We have around 40% which is fantastic (ideally it would be 50/50) and we recently did a short about getting more girls who are interested in ChemEng to take the course! Great video Tamer 👏
for whatever reason, anything bio/chem related has a ton more girls.
Same here we have a lott
In my country there are more girls than boys in chem/bio related majors
@@Rudenbehr It seems like it's just non-math in general. There are more girls in liberal arts than boys.
In tunisia there are a lot of girls in engineering or women in stem in general , in fact 60% of students in my engineering school are girls!
Wow, it's incredible to hear the firsthand experiences of these talented female engineers. Their determination and passion for their fields is truly inspiring. As a mechanical engineer and engineering content creator myself, I appreciate their perspective and the efforts being made to increase diversity in engineering. Let's continue to support and encourage more girls to pursue STEM careers. Together, we can create a more inclusive and innovative future! 👩🔬🚀

as a future aerospace engineering student, i find this video very helpful, because as a girl i often feel left out during advanced physics and competitions in high school. though now i am more confident. LET'S GO STEM GIRLZZZ💅 i wish a great career for each of the girls in this video, i love you❤❤❤
After watching this video, i would say that mechanical engineering is really tough for girls. We are a group of 25 ppl having just one girl which is like what the hell is she doing alone ( according to her 😂). But she's still brave and wants to pursue her dream degree.
TLDR: I think theres a mix of people. theres the bigots, theres those that are avoidant bc theyre unfamiliar, theres ppl who treat u normally, and theres those that give you special treatment. Also, the education environment feels more accepting than the employment environment.
_______________
i just finished my first year of mechanical engineering and so far ive taken 2 design classes. my first one i was in a group of all girls. my professor was a bit of a bigot in general towards minorities and he gave us a harder time when we were giving presentations but i think it was just to piss us off cuz we all ended up with decent grades lol, so basically it was just pettiness. my second design class, i was in a group of 3 girls and 1 guy. he treated us like we were his bros. my professor was a pretty chill person in general and kinda uplifted us actually. well there was an instance i used a fabric made of crochet for our project, and we were struggling with making the project work, so my prof was very skeptical about it and blamed the crochet, but it ended up not being the problem. I think that's just the engineering world not being familiar with more "feminine" crafts, but crochet is such a valuable handicraft that brings a lot to the table. kind of an untapped world.
My theory classes now- in materials science, i was one of 2 girls in the class, and towards the middle of the semester the only girl that showed up. I know there was a group chat that no one invited me to, and none of the ppl in my class spoke to me. In mechanics of solids, there were actually several girls, but thats because they were from different engineering majors. The guys in my major did not speak to me except one. He was very popular and had a lot of friends, but his friends from our major did not speak to me ever even when we were in a group setting. he was the only one who'd speak to me. The professors never treated me any differently. Actually I think my solids professor was more lenient with me bc the syllabus stated no late submissions for homework were allowed but he let me submit my missing homework after the semester ended to boost my grade lol (with a penalty but still) and he rounded my grade up.
In terms of ppls reactions to me telling them my major- when i tell women, they're like omg you're so smart good for you etc. The only back lash I got was when i told my family. My dad was originally disapproving and while he didnt tell me explicitly he didnt want me to do it, hed make subtle jabs at it here and there. my grandpa on my dads side straight up told me it was for men, and my uncle on my dads side is against women working in general lol. but my mom's side is fine with it.
Overall, I think theres a mix of people. theres the bigots, theres those that are unfamiliar, and theres ppl who dont gaf. i think ppl get scared away from engineering because they think its hell for women and you're gonna be treated specifically worse than others, but from my experience so far thats not the case, at least in the education sense. HOWEVER i will say at career fairs and recruiting sessions, recruiters HAVE treated me as if i was stupid. ive been ignored, interrupted, and shoved to the side for other candidates in the middle of me talking. So i think the world of employment is still behind. hopefully by the time i graduate things will be okay.
this is why people say engineers are most idle people in the world😅😅
Very insightful.
Jeez boi ain't reading all that
I'm sorry for what happened to you or glad it happened

I was ready for this video to be 3 seconds: Intro, "Are there girls in engineering?" "No." xDD
Unpopular opinion, but being an Electrical Engineering graduate, I would say Electrical Engineering has more girls in it than Mechanical. In my batch, out of 48 students, 21 were female.
Janeen is funny ash😂

which country bro?
Im unsure if there are girls in engineering? I saw a girl the other day I rubbed my eyes to make sure and when I did she was gone. Was it a mirage? 🤔
In my school, I study civil engineering, I would say around 30-40% are women in my classes on average. I have noticed that chem and biomed engineering has the most women and mechanical has the least. Currently taking dynamics which is mostly civil and mechanicals and the girls in the class are usually in civil or bio-med lol- As a girl, I really benefited from group study but that's where I would meet the weird dudes- but telling them I have a boyfriend (he's a welder) helps-.
Wait, what are girls?
you must be mechanical

buddy who said that?
This means more chance for us nerds to get a female companion, right? Right!?
It shouldn't be a goal to get a companion IMO. Just talk to them like you would your guy friends.
@@tetokesenye397 be real here. If the girl is attractive and you share the same morals, the guy would immediately make a move. Any guy would
I would advice you agianst it many of them are masculine and for some reason they 99% are feminist men hater who think it's equality to shit on men for some reason. So treat them nicely like any guy as you should, but never ever date anyone of them.
head to business majors at uni or fuck that at uni and focus on self improvement at this stage
the simple answer is NO. orientation was 80% male
I used to be smart. But engineering humbled me. 🤣🤣🤣
All I know is you make sh*t
Women in engineering are just men without the facial hair. Damn!
I relate to the 'I used to be smart'.😂

The beauty queen is not a good representation of an engineer. She’s not working as one and most young people, especially girls, would be fooled into thinking that engineering is more glamorous/ fashionable than it actually is.
I think they were toxic
I don't watch the video, because who cares?
I don't like facial hair remove it
Imagine beeing in a plane and the pilot says you that it was designed by a bunch of women. I will jump from this plane immediatly. 😮
girl? what's that?
I am doing mechanical engineering in India and I didn't know that this problem was worldwide. In India you can find enough software engineering girls but when you go to mechanical and civil there are very few of them . I don' t know why is this so. This not only impacts diversity in engineering but it also has some impacts on us boys (doing engineering) having spending a large chunk of time without any interaction with other sex.🥲🥲
