I live in the San Francisco Bay Area which is arguably one of the most expensive places in the world. But, there’s a huge tech scene here and engineers love to come and work here to get that high-tech salary. So to show you how expensive it is, here’s how much I spend per week. I’m sharing this because people like to keep their financial life private, but I think sharing it allows us all to learn from each other and better spend our money. I broke my spending down into 8 categories from low to high. Timestamps are as follows:

861.99 a week for a year is 44,823$ per year and he makes 110,000$ per year which is about 75,000$ a year after tax. so, he is left with about 30,000$ a year for investments, savings, or whatever, and he is only 24 mashallah that is pretty good. I guess an engineering career is pretty rewarding

hey new to the channel and your video really made me think!. I am 24 as well, and sadly I was unable to go to University after college. (I did two years community college). My parents were unable to help me financially (they were already sending my older brother money and my father's business collapsed) and I didn't get enough grants to be able to afford it as a dependant. I think you are allowed to apply to college as independent at 23 or 24 or something. So when I was 20, I decided to join the military to afford college but got denied at MEPS due to my asthma. so I started working at an Amazon warehouse. work was hard but the money wasn't too bad. Sadly, I didn't end up going back to college and I think I make a little too much to get the really good grants as a independent. While my parents couldn't afford to help with college, they did allow me to still live with them and they didn't charge me anything for the mortgage (I suspect this is due to my grandparents never charging for housing as it's expected in my culture to house families, and I think they felt bad about not being able to help me lol) Anyways, I moved on from the warehouse to the Post Office and continued to work hard. I make about 52k a year base + overtime. I' always work overtime. depending on overtime I typically take home after taxes, 2200-3000 dollars every two weeks. about 1100-1500 a week. with your lifestyle I would be left with 238-638 for savings a week.
I don't live with your lifestyle and I live with my parents. seeing as you're 24 like me, why aren't you still under your parents health insurance? I think you can stay until 26. These are my weekly expenses compared to yours.
Haircut- 0 (I'm currently growing out my hair and have been for the past year)
Subscriptions- $8 (Switch online + Amazon prime + Rocket Money + Unlimted Sips @ Panera Bread).
Phone - 4 (Mint Mobile 3 months free with 3 months. unlimited 5g until 35gs)
Health Insurance - (free thru parents, blue cross blue shield, 30 dollars per doctors visit. dentist is free twice a year for cleaning.)
Car Insurance - Free thru uncle and parents
Utilities- 30 (help mom by hiring a maid once a month)
Athletics - 0 ( job is very active)
    Rent- 0
Going out - 50 (typically go out with friends once a week)
eating out - 140 (Don't like cooking and typically get good deals thru apps)
Gas - 80 (work is a little far)
Groceries - 35 mainly just water, protein bars and energy drinks plus misc
Beauty - 18 - hair care products, skin care, soap, toothpaste, hair ties etc.
Fashion- 50 ( I like to get something really nice every once inawhile, typically a polo, jacket, sneakers or cologne.)
Clothes - 10 (I go through socks, wifebeaters and underwear like crazy)
Amazon Prime/ Random Purchases - 50 (typically random stuff, this week was getting galaxy smart tags, last week was a wireless charger and a car cell phone holder etc.)
Gas station snacks 5 - gum, drinks, etc)
Medication - 20 (it is what it is)
I rounded up for even numbers and my lifestyle is around 500 bucks a week. I am able to save 600-1000 a week however I have to dip to savings often, had some car repairs this month. I was very generous last Christmas. Helping my parents with house repairs. Had to stay at a hotel because roads were too bad during a bad winter storm, giving out money for weddings etc. There's a lot of expectations that come with getting a "real" job. all in all, I would say I average about 2-3k directly going into my savings and staying a month or 500-750 a week. which sounds really bad now that I do the math.
Anyways, for a long time I was salty about not being able to go to college and get a 6 figure tech job like I have always dreamed of
however, after watching your video, it seems like I don't have it that bad. thanks for the video and good luck with your career, I'm sure as the years go up you'll make a lot more and should do an update video.

It really depends on what standard of living you want and are used to. Civil is a broad, relatively low-risk degree, but it has the lowest median salary out of all the major engineering disciplines. I was in Civil Engineering for a semester and I sincerely enjoyed it, but I realized I like eating out more, so I moved to electrical where I didn't enjoy the coursework nearly as much, but it pays the bills.

Tamer, I am a P4 mechanical engineer at tesla in freemont CA (married no kids)and my wife also works as a mechanical engineer and here are my monthly expenses:
My rent and utilities are about 3900$ for 1 bedroom (Aya apartments 5mins walk from tesla)
My eating out and groceries are about 4000-5500
My car payment and insurance is 930$
Travel and leisure comes to around 3-5k a month

Just out of curiosity, do you think its worth going for cs over computer engineering if it gets me a year and a half off? (Also note I would be getting a minor in CE with the CS major). I want to go into embedded software.

I'd personally take the year and a half early graduation to save time and money (and get that extra time getting professional experience), but it could be worth it if there are some important CE classes you want to take that you think will impact your ability to get into embedded software 🤷‍♂️

I worked as an embedded software engineer. It’s a lot of on-job learning.
Don’t need to much CS/CE education.
I did Physics/Mech/Electrical Engineering. Having a solid grasp of C, Microprocessor architecture and RTOS is good.
Rest is all experience and long hours learning a specific embedded hardware.
