So I'm on my third E90 this year. Two were 328 IX and one two wheel drive. Al three of them where 2009 models. They ranged from 118k to 180k miles. All three of them needed cooling hoses, belts, pullies, tensioners, shocks and struts, valve cover gaskets and oil pan gaskets. The oil pan gasket on the two wheel drive is a pretty easy job. The oil pan gasket on the IX cars is a pain in the ass and it took me about 12 hours on each car. To date on average I spent about $3500 on the 328i and about $5k on each 328 IX. Each car the drivers seat needed to be taken to a interior shop and the leather on the seat and side of the bolsters had to be done it was $350 per car. I made about $500 selling the 328i and lost about $2500 on the 180k miles 328 IX. The engines on the 328 series e90s are bulletproof as long as you get the 2009 and newer. The first gen E90's had some additional issues you don't have to deal with on the LCI models. As far as cosmetics I ceramic tinted each car cost about $650 per car. All three need drivers cup holders. I've since found a way to repair them instead of replace them. I love the E90 for a daily driver. If your're new to doing your own maintenance stay away from the AWD 328IX they will eat your lunch. I own 11 BMW's now and by far the easiest to work on are the 2WD E46 and E90. They get good gas milage even though you have to burn premium. They avg 24 mpg and are great road trip cars and daily drivers. I bought all the parts new though FCP Euro because of the lifetime warranty.
" I own 11 BMW's now and by far the easiest to work on are the 2WD E46 and E90. " I'm taking notes furiously as I keep getting my ass handed to me when working on my E70 X5
My only 2 cars ever 325i E46 (scrapped) & 328ix E90 LCI which i currently own now. Always did my own maintenance & wish I had known about the history of the automatic transmissions in those old models…would have made me consider the manual swap when the automatic originally lost reverse at 180K & again somewhere around 270K. Apparently the transmission was common to lose reverse which mine did & eventually the rest of the gears 🥲 great car tho fun times RWD

Great job! I love project cars. As far a convertible, I still have our '05 E46 ZHP with 114k miles & still smile every time I drive it in our mountain's here in Western North Carolina. Had it in the garage when Helene came through. Please keep posting your videos. I really enjoy them. Greetings from the Old Jarhead in WNC
LBC my hometown! I’m in GA but bought two E93s out here. Shipping one for the spring just to ride around So Cal /Huntingtin Beach with the top down! Thanks for this video! ❤❤
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming. I also bought a 08 BMW 135i convertible last year as a project car. Yeah, so fun to drive it with the top down.
2008 convertible 335i 10 year owner! I approve of your work and labor cost lol..... Hey quick question where's the discord link you mention in your video
Thank you, tired of irresponsible neglecting owners blaming everything on bmw they definitely have their flaws but if you keep up with reasonable maintenance those cars can last for a very long time
I just purchased a beautiful 2012 red e93 with the n51 143K miles, I will be getting the oil pan gasket changed out tomorrow because the bottom was almost a bad looking as yours once I removed the bottom shield, My question, did you spray the under carriage with degreaser after you changed out your gasket, because mine always smells like burnt oil when I step out of the car, and my goal is to get rid of that smell once and for all!
Nice car. Your channel has been very helpful when it comes to DIY's for my 2008 E93 335I. I recently sent out the CAS, FRM, ECU, and key for repair and then Hurricane Milton came to my area and my car got partially flooded. Never reached the seats but there is about 4 inches of water in the rear floor pans and about 2 in the front floor pans. Hopefully once it's drained and dry it'll be okay as the battery is disconnected and all the electronics are still out of the car. Any advice on flood revival? Great channel.
Ouch, sorry yo hear that. I don’t really have exposure with flooded cars but i’d say take apart as much as you can to make sure everything is dry, in regards of wiring i wouldn’t really worry much since insulation will prevent any corrosion but doesn’t hurt to once again make sure everything is dry
@@Zeiten Thanks for the reply. Yup, That's the plan, fully dry before battery and computers go back in then hope for the best. Thanks again for your videos.
@@Zeiten Just an update. Got the CAS, DME, and FRM back from being repaired. Drained 6 inches of water from the interior. Pulled the plugs to ensure no water in the cylinders, drained the exhaust and my E93 335I fired right up. Moved on its own power. No water in the engine or up to the cats or turbos. In the process of letting the interior dry out after I gutted the interior and it'll be time to take it for a drive. Thanks again for your channel and the knowledge you share.
100% worth it to keep any E90 on the road. The last of the analog BMWs with hydraulic power steering, non-turbo I6 engines, often without a screen. Easy to work on, tons of parts, great community. And the previous owner doesn't deserve this car. They should be forced to drive an Altima. Anyone that eats in their car needs to be in a penalty box!
Def worth 7000 to repair the engine yea just don’t get the car if u can’t repair ur self or pay to fix it facts it’ll just be another loan u have I like to say do ur diY’s first an ur good anything else should be manageable for some

I just pressure washed the bottom as much as i could and it’s not perfect but decently clean
Hahaha opening the video and seeing my home town was surreal

Glad to hear it, long live e90 platform in all its form👍

agreed, my favorite platform! previous owner didn't buy it in the end
Great information by excellent mechanic,I have same Car but in Florida with 123K,transmission shift hard & engine running very hot like 240
What scanner are you using in this video?
Icarsoft cr ultra
@@Zeiten thanks! Looking to upgrade and trying to get some models to compare.
@jasonmunger8409 it’s a decent tool but has its flaws, i always liked icarsoft interface and simplicity to operate
Have you seen an uptick in climate control problems on models built after 2012?
Hi,
Do I have to change transmission oil for my automatic 2009 323i?
Thanks
Yes, every 60k miles more or less depending on your location
@@Zeiten can I just drain and refill or do I have to remove the transmission oil cover and replace gaskets?
@zeiten I need help replacing steering wheel pump by myself
It’s actually pretty simple on n51/52
Def worth 7000 to repair the engine yea just don’t get the car if u can’t repair ur self or pay to fix it facts it’ll just be another loan u have I like to say do ur diY’s first an ur good anything else should be manageable for some
It would be nice if i can even fix any car
You can always learn, it will take a bit of time but it’s very doable😉
Yes of course it worths any E90 series.
BimmerN53
It definitely was a good project🙌
7000 nope ain't worth it..u can just buy a newer BMW for that much
You are very helpful and thank you so much..
Thank you for watching👍
