What a lovely collection! I love to see collections of these types of personal items; interesting to think about the ladies who used them!

FYI, they make a liquid rust remover. You can either wipe it on or let the item soak. It dissolves the rust down to the metal . Works great on all types of metal. When the rust is removed, you can clear coat the item and it won’t rust again. I use it to remove the rust from decorative tins. You can find it in the paint department.

What great advice. I have stayed away from those tins and other items because I honestly didn’t know you could remove the rust without harming the item. Thanks so much ❤️

I remember seeing tear catchers in movies. I bought a modern day one several years ago. I wouldn't doubt that's what it's for. They were a dramatic people, after all. ♡

What a beautiful collection you have. It is wonderful to see what lady's did in times past , the care they took to make everyday items special. Coty perfume bottles, the early ones were made in France, (in those days pre 1950s) you had to travel to France to purchase french perfume. Not like now. But you probably know that. Lol
    Ps the glassmaker was lalique.

Love love seeing this. I just changed up my dresser and added all my Art Deco vanity trays and assorted containers. It certainly feels more decadent and I'm more inclined to use what's on my dresser now. I think I might need to get a copy of Victorian magazine, looks right up my street.

The cone shaped bottle that you said was for catching tears is probably a scent bottle but is missing its metal collar and lid like the other cut scent bottle you have. Over time, the adhesive that held these metal collars on sometimes started to deteriorate and just slid off. You're lucky you still have the dauber. Beautiful pieces!!!

I love that moth! I have some of these old button hooks and files that were either missing the implement or are in very bad shape. Would you consider doing a tutorial on how to make one? I'd love to display it with my collection. Another idea for you that I have seen is to cut the tip off to where it is hollow and make a tussy mussy out of it. Thanks for your great videos.

    • @TarnishedTreasures1

I’ve seen the tussy mussy idea. For the moth I just cut out wings and glued them on top. Then glue a pearl at the top. For the legs I bent gold paper clips. That’s it.

Loving these articles and seeing them in real life. The work on the lids is beautiful love the face. The gold coloured ones I wonder if you would call it silver gilt. After watching your sewing notions video a man called Clay Rammage had a video celebrating his first year on you tube. He talks about his good finds one of which is a Queen Anne ( I think) sewing hoop it's only small and they were on ebay for over $200. He has a link to the video where he talks about it (it's towards the end about the 7 mark from memory) one to look out for on your travels.

It is amazing to me the prices they are asking on Etsy & EBay for the Ormolu Jewelry Caskets and the Satin gold ones as well! Some of the ones I looked at were $150!!! I'm going to be looking for those when I'm out shopping and you were smart to start your collection early.
I believe remember when you found those first two little jars with the sterling tops. They are still favorites of mine because of their size and that you found them so in expensive. The powder jars 😵😵😵. Okay, the button hooks and the Victorian tear catcher are another fav of all times for me of the things you've found! 😂💙. I loved and enjoyed seeing all of these shown all together.

@@karenhill3970 I'll definitely check it out! I've seen a couple of really older movies & couldn't help but drool over over the sets. Wish I could remember the name of this one, but boy oh boy, the clothes were to die for! So chic & glamorous. Thxs for the tip! Can't wait to see it💖

@@TarnishedTreasures1 Yeah, you've been extremely lucky! I've never seen anything for those prices. Although I wish I could find pieces like that, I still get excited for others that find them too. Just glad they go to people who appreciate them and not to those who just want them to melt them down for the silver!

@Karen Hill Checked out the movie were u were telling me abt & I thought it seemed familiar. I just watched the remake of it a few months ago! How ironic?! There were so many great pieces. Loved the old linens & embroidered handkerchiefs too

Rust can be removed from the steel portion of the implements. Start with the finest steel wool. Its fun to do. A little olive oil at the end.
