Hey everyone! Just so nobody worries, my mom passed many many years ago, so no need for condolences 😊 She was an awesome lady with a wicked sense of humour who would have loved me using her death for a cheap joke on TH-cam a decade later. 😂
I was about to ask... Heal up, droogie. I'll take the videos short n wicked. Meanwhile: Dissect another pinball machine or build a ZX computer like the one in the movie Bandersnatch. Modify/build a small lathe to run on an attached steam engine you make yourself from zamek 12, aluminium, bronze, n 6Al4V titanium alloy [either raw stock or castings you do yourself. Just some ideas thrown at you for a series or two; I'd watch em all every Saturday. You're smart, skilled, n imaginative, Quinn. Let the good times roll...or turn as the case may be.
Even more so as there would be a left handed press joint involved. I believe that those pressing require that it be pressed in from the earth side of the clamping and the reduced access can be difficult. Thanks for the fun video.
So i guess if Quinn starts getting into machining titanium, we'll know either her knees or hips are giving her trouble and she's going to DIY the parts
Now, the prototype would probably use a stud and nut to keep this brass mushroom cover mounted, but I decided to silver solder this flush mounting and use a draw bar to keep the entire stick under tension to increase rigidity. A little time on the Scotchbrite wheel and you can't even see the toolmarks. Now, the draw-bar ferrule needs some knurling and I think I want to try an ammonia finish on the brass, but I'm afraid this project may be getting away from me . . .
"The Great thing about having a machine shop is that you can take any problem at all and over complicate it" No truer words have ever been spoken!!! 😁😁

"Awesome Lady with a wicked sense of humor." The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, you just described yourself! And yes, this DOES imply that you are a bit of a nut! ;)
$5? More like $2. A glue on cap is so cheap as to be something you throw out when cleaning the truck out. Far be it from me to deny a bespoke comfort oriented solution, aka video content.
Omg that that exercise was one of the most uncomfortable and horrible things that I had to do after my shoulder surgery, but am I glad my physical therapist made me do it.
Another great use for the Turnado: using the template function for multiple clock plate stand-offs, also I suspect miniature control handle grips for certain life steam locomotives. I bought it on a lark and find I use it way more than I’d thought. I love Gary’s stuff!
Hope your shoulder keeps improving!! And this was an awesome video - your humor shines through and it was fun to learn about delrin and see the turnado in action. And maybe I’m also nostalgic for 2015 TH-cam 😄
Pipe rule #3. The ID (Inside Diameter) of all pipe must not exceed their OD (Outside Diameter) - otherwise the hole will be on the outside. Please check.
I did something similar for a project, but instead of making the cap seat inside the pipe, I bored the cap to tightly fit over the pipe. Later I 3d printed the same thing. I love your dark humor, My mom would also approve since she loved to laugh. She died of a stroke 3 years ago.
Pipe = Hollow bar Oh, yeah. Having 5 shoulder surgeries, needing a 6th, butbrefusing as it involves a rotator replacement and a limit of 30 pounds load... NO! I like your version of the Physical Therapists torture device and will be making myself one soon! Thanks Quinn!
As someone who broke both wrists during the last 12 months... and have along history of knee injuries, I bloody hate physical therapy but I agree with you that it is needed. Lovely video!
This video was a delight. Also, I have an old shoulder injury that never healed right, so I might look into this exercise for my own purposes. Thank you
I have found when turning such flavours of plastic, (delrin, UHMW, ...), that if I go as fast as my ancient Hercus lathe will spin and take the heaviest cuts I can get away with the nasty stringy chips are at least manageable. The vacuum thing looks slick though.
I think you can get end caps for PVC pipe, but then you wouldn't get to machine Delrin, generically polyoxymethalene. I got to turn Delrin once. I was making the base of a lamp more stable. My plan was to make it out of wood but I don't think the shop master trusted me on the wood lathe so he handed me a scrap of Delrin to turn on the metal lathe.
Quinn, I come for the steam engines but I stay for videos like this that are “unapologetically Quinn”. My condolences for your ring hand, you’re in my thoughts, a few of my prayers, and my awkward conversations with service workers.
The Physiostick Dance is, frankly, adorable. Let's see This Old Tony do _that_! (No, seriously, that'd be amazing. Tony, I know you watch Quinn's stuff. Do it. You know you want to.)
Awesome dance move there !!1 hey any vid is a good vid from you! i watch a metal detector guy who has been down right at 2 months with lymes disease they think! just now getting back to being able to leave the house so keep up the physio dont know if we could do with out a Quinn to watch make chips !! Have Fun:)
If the recommendation comes your way to have injections in the shoulder joint to ease/facilitate the therapy - take them. The anesthetic / anti-inflammatory agents calm the joint lining, greatly improving the therapy results. 3 injections over 18 months - came out the other side @ 100%…. 💉👌
Eccentricengineer has a 6 year old video about the turnado system and all the tools "The Turnado freehand metal turning system". Well worth the 18 minutes. Cool system.
Well on the plus side, with having such a large mass of plastic on the end of the pipe your physio stick can double as a procussive persuasion stick should the need arise. Or as a reaching stick for anything that escapes to under the bench.
Lol ... my PVC physiotherapy stick has a 90 degree pvc fitting on the end .... because I didn't need to make content, I only needed not to have ring hand. Note: The series of exercises helped alot with trigger finger.
Physio mushroom, not psychedelic mushroom. 👍 My parents who are both very straight laced and mum is very self righteous, ate mushrooms out of their back yard. Mum normally peels 'em, and they've been eating them for years. Well... Dad was about 80 and mum was 76, she didn't peel them. Both wound up in hospital high as kites, with security staff keeping a close eye out. Dad was up the shed at his lathe wondering why he was having so much trouble concentrating....
Great solution. Ring Hand is no joke, I've suffered for many years but through attending my local support group I have learned to live with it. Not sure the Mushroom dance will take off.
I just finished my shoulder op therapy 2 mo. ago. I used a metal closet rod (for hangers) and stuck a wine cork in each end to eliminate the hand circle problem.....too lazy to do the 'saw-dust-therapy' thing.
Another Saturday, another fun Blondihacks video. Good tip on the shop vac for Delrin... last time I was turning some Delrin I ended up having to stop after every pass to rip off a handful of plastic spaghetti!!
Ha! Excellent video. And my Mom would have appreciated the humor as well. She died of Alzheimer's. I was her caregiver and I could still joke with her until very late in the disease progression. I'll take a big chance and go for it; "What's a good thing about someone with Alzheimer's? They're always meeting new people." Sorry, not sorry. Thanks, and Meow to Sprocket.
I'm sorry to hear you *need* physio. Having broken a collar bone (cyclist here) I spent a year on assorted daily physio. I thought you would blend the transition from the radius'd top of the mushroom to the parallel sides using the Turnado's freehand mode.
Hey everyone! Just so nobody worries, my mom passed many many years ago, so no need for condolences 😊 She was an awesome lady with a wicked sense of humour who would have loved me using her death for a cheap joke on TH-cam a decade later. 😂
Ahhhh, and NOW we see where your wicked sense of humour came from.

@@Willam_J Sure it will! See youngsters - "Stay away from Sticks"
@@causewaykayak - I don't get the reference, but I accidentally found a song called "Napalm Sticks To Kids". I don't recommend listening to it. 😮
I'm glad you only have one sore shoulder, it would have been annoying to have to make a left-handed version as well.
I'm having trouble visualizing how you'd even do that, run the lathe backwards and cut from the other side?
😂
Even more so as there would be a left handed press joint involved. I believe that those pressing require that it be pressed in from the earth side of the clamping and the reduced access can be difficult.
Thanks for the fun video.
@@d00dEEE Maybe stand on her head?
Fit the tools to a faceplate, and mount the work to the tailstock?
I think you need to turn your tools upside down in the holders
So i guess if Quinn starts getting into machining titanium, we'll know either her knees or hips are giving her trouble and she's going to DIY the parts
Doctor, hold my beer.
Can't wait for Physio Stick parts 2-34 !
Golly, will there be springs involved?
Can't wait to see that block in context!

Rotator cuff alumni here. Honestly the incentive of being able to sleep again after a couple of years was worth the physio grief. Keep it up.
It's a fun video, Quinn. Honestly, we're just happy to be invited into your shop every Saturday. You could read the funnies and still get likes.
Ditto
The only lady I know on the internet, who can make turning a plastic mushroom enjoyable.😊
"Why buy a PVC cap for 32 cents when I can make one for 7 times the price?" Classic crafter conundrum
"Awesome Lady with a wicked sense of humor." The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree, you just described yourself! And yes, this DOES imply that you are a bit of a nut! ;)
Having had two frozen shoulders I feel your pain. I did just did the broomstick trick. Now I bought a lathe just to be prepared for the next injury. 😊
I hope your shoulder heals well. Thanks for all the videos you make.
Wow OK .. really needed a Quinn for scale ... I thought it was a plastic rivet by the thumbnail ... 🤣
😂
Standard Metric Quinn
@@BlondihacksI think “standard” and “metric” are redundant, no? Quinn is, however, not redundant.
This. This right here is why we love you Quinn!
I adore you Quinn, keep doing things, even randomness like this is a fun watch.
Spending many hours of work and a lot of money on something you could buy for 5 bucks at any shop is such a machinist thing ^^
The whole point of having a machine shop is that you can take any problem and horrendously overcomplicate it.
A 10 cents end cap would solve the problem, but "machinist thing". :)
$5? More like $2. A glue on cap is so cheap as to be something you throw out when cleaning the truck out. Far be it from me to deny a bespoke comfort oriented solution, aka video content.

Nevermind the "ring hand" - what about the "muisarm" (literally 'Mouse Arm") which is the Dutch word for RSI - Repetitive Strain Injury.
That sounds almost as bad as 'klikvinger' (clicking finger).
i like seeing useful thing made, no matter how smple.
This was cute, and I love watching the turnado work!
This is barely a comment,; fortunately it came with 7/11ths of an upvote, (but I rounded up)
Pipe rule #3. The ID (Inside Diameter) of all pipe must not exceed their OD (Outside Diameter) - otherwise the hole will be on the outside. Please check.
If you stand on your head, it will be back-the-front and all will be fine.

What, and suffer layer line hand?
Over complication is one of my favorites hobbies.
Great video, love your work, I hope the shoulder is fully recovered.

I love telling stories about how how I made a £2 thing with a £8000 + pound work shop. Justification I love it.

That makes 2 videos for the Machining Around the House playlist!
I found a huge surplus supply of delrin in lots of sizes its great for lots of projects
I make Kubota shift bearings from it.
