  • Add this to the long list of "Don't Do What Nick Does."
I became a little too obsessed with taking out the slop in my clutch lever that I over tightened the clutch cable to the point that the clutch would not engage. And then I didn't loosen it enough so the clutch was only half engaging and slipping under load.
But all's well that ends well as I was able to fix my own mistake, all in the Australian Summer heat and in full gear, helmet and all!

Nick, if the up/down movement of the clutch lever is of annoyance, may I suggest fitting a 'wave' washer to the clutch lever fulcrum bolt. Suggest no thicker than .012" - .015" just a thought, that's all.

Hmmm, that's something I'll have to look into, thanks :)

That up/down free play is not annoying to me, and I have adjusted my clutch cable a tad on the excessive, I like to know that when I fully release clutch lever, the clutch plate(s) are fully disengaged. Just me, being me.

@@kevinbourke4038 Yes, I was better off leaving the cable alone in the end. I had it set just fine when I first replaced the clutch plates

Why, do you ride it at higher rpm on the lower gears. Just curious 🤨

Why not? I'm not meaning to be rude but that's a silly question. In Regional Australia, the speed limits are higher and traffic will not tolerate someone taking 5 minutes to accelerate to the speed limit.
This bike is not going to be damaged by revving, Honda engineers know what they are doing

my brand new cb125f has zero play at all, only up and down movement, i was looking at loosening it a little but it's already at it' loosest, i'm only able to tighten it, i guess it's factory done and then if it loosens over time you can tighten it

    • @NicksBikes
      @NicksBikes  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can adjust the play at the cable, it should have at least a few mm in it

@@NicksBikes it's already at it's loosest it can be, the locking nuts aren't even touching the bit that holds the cable, must have been factory fit that way, there's only the ability to tighten it which i guess is needed over time when the cable stretches

you'll burn the clutch out with the cable over adjusted...

Slop ! - freeplay or backlash young man, not slop. Others use - 'flog'

      It's slop forevermore!!!!
I actually attempted to video making the adjustment earlier in the day where I actually said freeplay instead of slop, but it turns out I took a photo instead of video. But by that point in the day I was already sick of standing around in the heat, so slop it was!

Keep the slop coming! Enjoying the content bud! I’ve been seriously considering getting a CB125F as a 2nd bike/runabout. Your vids seem to show this little bike with a lot more character than others tend to. 👍 😃

@@dossaer When I first got this bike, most videos on it were dealerships trying to sell it. I love riding this bike and sharing its quirks as I rack up the kilometres.
Many people have claimed that I'm going to destroy this bike, but that only gives me something to fix and a new skill to learn.
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it
