Great comparison vid! I rode a 22 RR and yes it does everything so well with all the creature comforts and is fast, but it just didn't excite me as ridiculous as that sounds from a 200bhp bike, I got 5 minutes on a 2015 R1 a week later and in less than 30 seconds I was in love, My 2008 R1 is currently awaiting a new shift shaft which arrived yesterday to be fitted this weekend but a very good friend let me take his recently acquired 09 Big Bang out last week and yeah, its a crossplane i need in my life! That sound could be bottled and sold, I just can't help but feel like VR46 every time I'm sat on one, I'd live with knowing its not the most comfortable of the two but i don't think i could live with the Beemer knowing the R1 makes me so much happier
Aussie here. I have owned a 2014 S1000RR & now own a 24 one. I also worked for Yamaha where i got the chance to bring home bikes now and then including the 2015 R1. I found the R1 had a better front end, sounded better and was probably more of a racebike. However, i hated its ergos and comfort level. I also disliked its single daytime headlight. Its fueling was off - innaccurate and choppy. You sit ON the R1. With the BMW, more top heavy, but planted. The thing is going to take care of you. You sit IN it. More prestigious, solid and easy to ride. Better dash than the R1 which for some reason comes off childlike to me on the R1. The BMW has the cruise and heated grips, and is comfortable. There are no disadvantages to this bike. The insurance was higher on the R1, and i felt that only the R1M was realistically comparable to any S1000RR. I thought hard about whether to get another S1000RR or the 'final edition' R1M. Is the R1M worth more than the 'M' variant BMW? Well, i think if i were to spend essentially $40k on a R1M, i might as well get a Panigale. And why would I spend so much on a bike to impress others rather than enjoy my own ride? I ultimately chose the BMW. 5 year warranty, cheaper insurance, $2000 off as a promo and a great dealer. The S1RR is also a genuine monster engine. Whereas the Yamaha felt like it was something i was buying to 'be cool and join the club', and not because i enjoyed its dynamics. The R1 feels like it doesnt belong on the road but it's tolerating you keeping it on one. The S1RR feels like it owns the road and is capable of doing far more. The R1 is more of a cult classic. But apart from its ludicrous racer feel, i have a hard time liking it - more that i respect it. The BMW is more 'boring', but it's because its such a consistent and stable beast. You can change up the pipe to give it character if necessary. But i wouldn't trust another litre bike the way i trust this thing. When i sold my '14, i knew it was a mistake to let it go. Wont make that error again!
The RR is a better bike, cos it has more 'R's... That means the Honda Fireblade is even better! 😁 Seriously though, thanks for the comparison. I'm considering either of these bikes, and I'm leaning towards the RR for comfort and convenience, and towards the R1 for the more emotive engine and for track use... expensive unless it can be good at both I think. Maybe it would be better to buy an MT-09 for the road, and a CBR600RR for the track... for about the same money.
I have been looking forward to hear what you had to say about these two. Having owned more than one of both these bikes, I have to say you really nailed it spot on. Anyone in the market for either machine would do well to watch your review. You mentioned the 2007 R1, well I have a real soft spot for the 07/08 R1s. Great lookers and so versitile in their day. Moving on to the present, BMW S1000rr Sport would be my choice. Honda moved the dealership experience on and now BMW have raised the bar even higher. Sadly we have lost Barnstormer Maidenhead in our area but Alton Barnstormer is now the flagship for their great customer care. Very good content👌👍 Cheers.
I've been riding motorcycles since 1973. Please tell me why you want a 1000 cm³ motorcycle. My first touring experience was a three week camping trip in Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, France and Monaco. My girlfriend was riding pillion. I always thought the best thing about motorcycling touring is being two up with your spouse or spouse maybe to come. We were on a Suzuki GT550 and with the two of us and all our luggage it had plenty of power - on the Autobahn, on the Autoroutes and in the Alps - everywhere.
hi, I have quite an opposite experience with them, maybe this has to do with being in Australia. (Both my bikes are 2022 models) I find the R1 is the most economical on fuel with 4.9L per 100km (57 mpg). My S1000RR was 5.4L (52mpg). The RR made my feet hot and the R1 feels cooler to sit on. The RR had a vibration in the bars that made my hands go numb on long rides, the R1 doesn't have this. The R1 might have a longer reach to the bars but also has nicer panels you can grip with your legs. When you put the R1 throttle in mode 3 it will feel similar to the BMW's Road mode. So I find the R1 is more comfortable to ride, and has a little more character. Some things I love about the BMW, like the screen and it has more power at low speeds. Its mostly because of the vibration and heat that I prefer my R1.
Great video n I could relate when you mentioned about looking at magazines and drooling over R1 and that blue colour as I did the same. I agree with you on practicality that S1000RR is way ahead thanks to the electronics package, heated grips and cruise control. I think if someone is looking for a track bike then R1 makes more sense and then if you need road bike then S1000RR. For me even price makes a difference and I feel BMW is more value for money.
Excellent and very detailed and honest comparison. I think it would be the BMW for me as it's more road focused. Not sure a fuel gauge is a deal breaker for me, as I've been riding for nearly 50 years and never had one 😛They are mostly unreliable anyway. It's not 'rocket science' to know when you need to 'fill up'
I prefer the RR cos of the looks and tech (not a sports bike fan really). Im also really not keen on the Yamaha blue. The bike i had posters of was a Yammha TW from the age of 9/10, I bought one as my 2nd bike first been a Suzuki AE50 moped at 16. got the Yamaha TW at 17 sold it at 20... found it at an auto jumble 17 years later missing engine wheels dash seat and all the plastics. bought a none runner and 2 engines made a working one from 3. upgraded to a front disc. i feel 20 year younger now.
hiya it's Ritchie you & i have a lot in common when it comes to the R1 you said you love the R1 likewise the first time i saw an R1 i was in love with this sexy motorbike she's a very seriously beautiful motorbike the lady's always wanted to experience the chance of feeling what i felt i think you know what i mean by that you are a fabulous lady & i am so very glad that i came across your video Ritchie xx
Used to work with a guy who owned an R1, he could't keep it in a straight line, it would suddenly swerve whenever it passed a petrol station, reckoned he couldn't get more than 20mpg out of the thing even riding it sensibly. I did think about whether it might be work buying an R1 just to mothball and keep in pristine condition for the next 30 years in the hope it might appreciate in value. Keep it in the living room as art or something, but I'm already dangerously close to a divorce that I think it would be the tipping point, and then she'd take it in the settlement!
I've thought about buying bikes for investments in the past, until I realised that investments and emotions don't mix well. Returns wise, unless you hit the jackpot (like you bought a couple of mint RC30's at £5K a pop in 1995) you'd be far better off just putting your money in an index fund, IMHO.
Had a 2019 R1, great bike but worst ergos of any bike I have ever owned. Sold it and got the 2023 MT10SP and while not as pretty it is 100 times better for street riding😎
Loved that bike, the perfect introduction for me into big bike ownership. Not sure I have enough archived content to make a video but I’ll give it a go
I went the other way 2020 bmw s1krr to 2023 R1.BMW was unreliable l,eaking forks, water pump issue, injector issues, tft dash, top of the engine was also replaced due to manufacture defect. Also I found bmw vines guilford dealer very poor.R1 on the other hand is super reliable and yamaha dealer is top notch.
I love the fact you’re sort of in love with motorcycles You don’t c it so much with the fairer sex You sound just like me when I was younger full of passion and enthusiasm for motorcycles For me I’d prob have a current model R one I love the X plane engine and that sound
My s1k only Gets 100miles till empty (not reserve) £20-£23 fill up. 99ron E5 Also I refuse to live without heated grips and cruise control after experiencing them.
BMW is my choice. Less extreme riding position. Cruise control, heated grips, better mpg , better dash by a mile as I need glasses to see the R1 dash. I prefer the look of the bmw too.

I feel exactly same way.R1 make me feel much better than bemmer i use to own
those are great bikes but i feel bad you havent experienced a RRR fireblade.

Aprilia RSV4 factory is much better bike then beemer for similiar price
@@IgorHolizna He doesn't care. To him the BMW is more "prestigious". I hope he doesn't have to sell it. It would be a sudden wake up.

Great video, loved the the fact you're talking real road riding not track 👍
Great Review! As a current S1KRR owner, I totally agree with you! Have a great day! Subbed!
Great detailed comparison 👍🏻

Problem with a fuel gauge is the sender and all the wiring is extra weight on what is basically a basis for going racing.

Based on your comments you need to keep the RR for road use and trailer the R1 to the track weekly!

you don't have to stress about this
in fact i thought you were perfect
R1 Asian bike are a little old fashioned..BMW is the better preference... good video

Of course I will choose R1 but in my country it is very expensive if I buy it I have to pay 66.11 USD 😪😭

Should have compared with pinky 🩷! But still you nailed it LiZzzzyy
