    You couldn’t possibly sound condescending! You are mentoring and I appreciate you immensely with or without your hat. I laughed when you said the eBay polybag was free, “ sort of” not much actually is truly free. Shipping has been my biggest learning curve as a new reseller so this is always a welcomed topic.

    I know what you mean about shipping material coming to you. I'm a chef in a large retirement community. Every day the Maintenance Director, who also receives all the packages, gets a free lunch from me. Needless to say, bubble wrap, boxes, etc. show up outside the kitchen all the time. A little bribery goes a long way, lol. Also...you did freak me out without the hat.

    I live in a condo and if I need a box I check the recycling dumpster to find what I need. Also use the boxes from Chewy for some items because their boxes are very sturdy. 🇺🇲💕

    Good video for the beginner eBay seller. Been selling on eBay for 16 years my #1 tip for the beginner would be asked yourself this question...HOW AM I GOING TO SHIP THIS ITEM? No matter what it is THE FIRST thing you need to know is how are you going ship it. How much does it weight, (#1 tool scale) what box or bag will it fit in and remember the total weight, item + packing material + label + box or bag it all adds up fast. 16 ozs or less (first class) is the cheapest way to ship items. #2 tip > watch all the videos you can find on shipping before you list anything, this tip my save to big money.

    I'm a California Girl (Burbank) and love seeing the pictures of the tranquil waters, green garden, and kitty cat, that you show at the end of your vids. As you know we don't have any tranquil waters in Burbank. Not sure where you grew up in Los Angeles, but it's cool that you are from here. Wishing you good sales this week. :)

      I have a box of those 'shaved bits' that I then use as 'sturdifying' back boards for other items like soft wallets or video games (which I *THINK* Kevin mentioned he does too) so I can then toss them in lightweight bags/envelopes and the customers are always happy that they feel I made 'extra effort' to protect their item, whilst I am saving on shipping.

    Great info on boxes!!! I love the lightweight boxes from Supply Hut! Don't rule out Box 4 from USPS, I have found this is the perfect box for coffee mugs and figurines that have to ship Priority mail! I am very envious of your box organization. I have the plans drawn up and the lumber purchased to build something similar in my one car garage. The best part of my plans is that they incorporates my project (broken down) motorcycle that is parked in the garage. I am going to build around it and store the USPS shipping tubes above it. Cannot wait to get it built!

    I’ve been reselling for maybe two years and still learn a lot from shipping videos. Thank you for you tips. I always tend to over package, even by using bubble polymailers because I don’t know how the packages will be handled, so I figure a little extra won’t hurt, but it will cost slightly more sometimes.

    I get free boxes from work. I hear up the labels and tape that are on them and it looks like a brand new box. I refuse to pay for a box when so many are just thrown away. I don't provide free shipping so I don't worry about the weight. I always weigh the item before listing it then I estimate the size and weight of the box. I always put the cheapest method of shipping.

    I am really bad not using USPS for shipping priority weight items. It's not that I don't have them. I just don't think sometimes when I grab a box. Sooo sad...lol I do use recycled boxes when I can but I don't store all of the odd ball sized boxes. Too much of a mess.

    For shipping in flat rate envelopes... if you punch in the corners...it opens up the space and you can fit more in. Almost any size jeans will fit in this or the large one. 😊

  • @stephendrake6927
    @stephendrake6927 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1) I hope you regularly take cookies to work to give to the custodians.
    2) Be careful using the flat rate envelope (unpadded) for bulky items like jeans. As a long-time EBay purchaser, I’ve received a few thing in flat rate envelopes. They tear easily. I believe the padded flat rate is worth the extra 60 cents if you’re going to be stuffing every bit of space.
    3) I’ve wondered if you frankenbox first class packages to stay at a lower tier. You have the wide variety of small boxes. I only order the 8x6x4 boxes and I do frankenbox it to go to a lower first class rate.
    4) You can easily turn a 12x12x8 box into a 14x10x8 or a 15x9x8 if you need a slightly different dimensions for a large item. Takes only a minute to make the cuts and scores.
    5) I went back to the same Goodwill today and found lots more Revere Ware, including a 6 qt pot with lid.

    I'll pass this on. The box the item fits into you can not put a label on it, because it is too small. Use the box, put it in a poly mailer, and put the label on the poly mailer. I have done this for jewelry, and other small items. To me it saves on packing supplies. I believe poly mailers would be cheaper than bubble wrap.
    Items that just need to be a little stiffer like post cards, tradecards, and etc. Wrap a small piece of cardboard around it, or stick between two pieces. Put in a polymailer.
    I save all my cardboard no matter the size.

  • @TrehanCreekOutdoors
    @TrehanCreekOutdoors 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I want to pass on two hints for new resellers.
    (1) Offer other shipping options when you list. You can offer the lowest cost method as the shipping method you intend to use but if you offer alternative but higher cost methods then the you pass on the extra costs if the buyer chooses one of those more expensive methods, for whatever reason. Example: You might offer free shipping as a first class package to keep your costs low and to goose sales but if a buyer wan'ts priority express then the buyer pays the higher shipping rate. Some buyers are just in a hurry and are often willing to pay for faster shipping.
    (2) When you list a box size and weight for calculating shipping, add an extra inch or two all the way around and maybe 4 to 6 extra ounces above the actual amounts. This might result in a slightly higher calculated shipping cost but it can protect you from having to eat extra shipping fees if you find you need to put extra padding or cardboard in the package before shipping. If you don't use up that allowance, then you might make a few extra cents off the shipping cost difference. Small amounts add up over time to extra profits.
    And here's a tip for resellers making videos ....generically speaking, not referring to anyone in particular...HA! There's a reason why movie stars and celebrities wear hats and sunglasses so often. It gives them that "movie star look." So, just saying.....
    ALWAYS wear a hat and sunglasses!

    Great video Commonwealth Flipper. I would love a break down of say two or three common items we could ship in your top three to five USPS boxes. So, most of us know that anything under 16oz we would ship First Class Mail in a poly bag or small box. Now, of the top three or five USPS boxes what types of items would we ship? You said box # 7 is your favorite box. What are we shipping in that box? I also have a question on frankenbox. If I were to take 2 # 7 boxes to ship an item when buying a shipping label does that count as 1 # 7? As always that thank you for all your wisdom, Tye

    • @commonwealthflipper
      @commonwealthflipper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second part of you question is this. the #7 is not flat rate so it doesnt' really matter. It is charged by weight and size combined.

I have had a few that had no damage. It might not be worth the savings. Or maybe if you wrap the outside of the envelope with tape it might prevent it from getting damp and tearing. Good luck with your sales.

What are the sizes of poly bags that you routinely stock? I've found it confusing trying to buy them because they are sized as 0, 000, etc. What does that mean?

    Hahaha I remember the last time you went hatless, so no shock for me. It’s kinda fun to read in the comments how many people thought you were bald.😅 Anyway, these are some great tips. Thanks for sharing! Take care❣️

    I get my Prioririty boxes free, i also get my eBay boxes free. I have an eBay store and i get a coupon every quarter for $50.00 free shipping items, boxes, 3 size padded envelopes, all my rolls of eBay tape, tissue paper, thank you cards, labels, etc. I do not pay for anything for shipping material. Brother gives me all the packing from Amazon and he gives me all his shredded paperwork. My daughter buys lots of cast iron items that she sells and i get all her air bags, bubble wrap and popcorn, My older daughter works at a motel, so she saves me all the smaller boxes that the toiletries are shipped in, so i get lots of free shipping items. I also (used) to get odd boxes from Walmart or the grocery stores,, but not now with the big "C" going around. I cut every penny i can, 10 cents here and 10 cents there will add up in the end. I do have to buy clear tape as i have always taped my own labels on. but i use the free eBay tape as much as i can for evrything else.

    When shipping priority mail by weight, how do you measure the dimensions of a bulky poly mailer? I don’t seem to find the answer.

    • @commonwealthflipper
      @commonwealthflipper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      to be honest. The size of a Poly mailer priority mailer will not change the shipping price so don't worry to much about it. I am assuming the 3rd measurment is the one that gets you. How thick is it? Does is bulge out 3 inches than it is 3 inches. Check out pirate ship and It will be really cheap if you can get it in a bag like that.

      I only have it because I am on youtube and I don't want people showing up to my house. LOL I don't think I ever would have got it otherwise.

    Packing paper is a waste. Even new newspaper sometimes bleeds ink. Yard sales you can always find big giant lots of wrapping paper real cheap, just tear off what you need and lightly crumble. Think I have 50 or 60 rolls at any time shoved under the beds. Doubt I Have $5 into all them. If you want a bunch of the same size boxes dollar tree and bath and body works dumpsters work great. I take less than 5 minutes everytime I drive to town to drive behind the strip mall and fill my truck with 100+ boxes. Sometimes that 5 minutes would take me that long to navigate across the parking lot to get to the traffic light. This way I avoid people by driving out back and I save/make money picking the boxes for the same amount of time I would've wasted sitting in the parking lot waiting in the long line to get to the light.

    How do I ship pennants ? ( they can’t be rolled up need to be flat ) love your videos

    • @jhg4852
      @jhg4852 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can take a flat box and slide the pennant inside. Then tape up the edges. Same for prints or posters that need to flat lay.

    • @baublesblingsneedfulthings7550
      @baublesblingsneedfulthings7550 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just take 2 pieces of cardboard and 'sandwich' the pennant, then either tape the entire thing completely so there is no 'spaces' or tape lightly and put inside a polybag-- depends on size AND maybe how far it is being shipped👍

    I’ve got a question I ordered flat rate priority envelopes and got one twice as big as the one I had been using (like one you had)? What is the price difference?
