Enjoying your EBAY for beginners series. I recently retired after 25 years with the same company. Decided to try my hand at something new. Was feeling a little overwhelmed but watching your videos has really helped. Thanks to you and your wife.
I can not thank you enough for making this beginners series. I watched your first video a week ago and slowly started the item I had at home. Mostly collectible (Monster High, Star Wars, and my deceased son's mega wrestling collection. ) After listing 8 items yesterday I woke up with a sale for $34.99. You would have thought I'd won the lottery. This video was perfect, and I was able to follow it step by step. You turned my fears about selling on ebay into a paper dragon.
Great video. I'm new to ebay and used ebays recommendation for shipping. We used usps ground advantage and got a notice that we underpaid shipping. Live and learn
I'm far from a beginner, 25 years, but I seem to learn something from every one of your videos last video I learned about the big Hangar that was really cool thank you Ryan
So very helpful! It is clear you are a top notch seller and obviously a very good teacher who has a heart to help new beginners and I cannot thank you enough!
Dude this type of video brings back memories. I remember being brand new and stumbling onto your “how to” videos. Super helpful and it’s smart yall still remake these.
Always new people jumping in! I feel like more and more people could use the extra cash and if we can help them, that’s what I’m going for! Thanks for watching for so long by the way :)
Thank so so much for this series of videos I know you probably get hard of answering these questions over and over and I’m sure you’ll have to make new updated videos from time to time but I appreciate all the time you’ve taken. I’ve learned so much from the last couple days of watching your videos so nice to know and I especially love the shipping one..
Thank you so much. I have one question. If you choose cheaper shipping after the fact, how did the buyer know the shipping cost at the time of purchase?
I have this same question. I'm guessing in this case in other videos he has mentioned that he offers free shipping for everything. So when you list the item you'll select offer free shipping and then check the box that says you don't know the shipping details. This, IMO, wouldn't be a good idea for beginners since we don't really know how much something will weigh or what size box we might put something in. I have noticed though that the size box almost never matters when it comes to price unless something is going to be put on a plane.
Wow, Ryan, this was a super awesome video! I am only a once in a while reseller, selling off my collections, but I feel like I’m prepared to go full-time now, if I wanted to. Not many resellers will take the time to teach the shipping part of the business & I think that’s the most confusing and challenging part of the equation to most people. It’s super cool that you took the time to make this video for your subscribers. You & Allison are good people 😊❤
Thank you! You have been a tremendous help today~ I have been away from ebay for 4-5 years, and I was scared to try and list somethiong! You have taught me so much! I love all of your videos and will continue to Watch and Like!
I have been following you guys for at least 6 years and it's always a pleasure to see what you come up with. Thanks for the educational videos. I followed your videos throughout my eBay path and much appreciated. Someday hopefully I'll be able to make one of your inventory classes. Thanks a million
First thank you very much for taking the time and putting in the effort to help those of us who lack experience selling on eBay. My question is about your system of listing and processing various types or categories of items after a day of sourcing. What is efficient? Do you photo and list all items individually or by categories/groups? Or is it by a specific method because of size? Then do you calculate each item's shipping after other group processes are completed, etc. ? Hope my question isn't as confusing as it appears to me. ;-) Thanks again for your instruction videos!
Can you breakdown thought process when buying? What to pick up or not. Business model as to what ROI you expect. Also, brands to buy. All things great for this series.
If you guys don't like dealing with boxes, I ship baseball hats in poly bags, but only if I have some air pillows available. usually 2 in back & 2 around brim b4 wrapping. never had any damage complaints : )
Ehhh, I still highly recommend not shipping hats in bags for anyone reading this comment. I’d be pretty upset if I bought a hat and it was shipped in a bag.
Thank you for the video! In your video, you mentioned to have viewer possible video suggestions. I think having one on how to successfully source at garage sales like brands to look for, how to know quality items, etc. Thank you!
Great video! Thanks for the info! One question I have heard new sellers ask about is, "Where is the Custom Sku option?" Most of us know, but some don't. Not meaning to critique your already Great Video, it is just something I have come across quite often! Thanks again Ryan! I can't wait for the next video!
Wow I remember these videos! Thanks for going step by step for the new sellers. It really helps. Here’s an idea for shipping 2.0 how to make a frank-n-box? Love you guys. See you in the discord!
Im new so take this w a grain of salt 😆 but to save money on packing paper i got a shredder on a garbage can, i shred junk mail, and get old outdated fliers from stores, shred it and pack it tight. Havent had a complaint yet. But im only 144 sales this 90 days so not real big.
Great help with this video as I am just getting started. How do you decide when to use a priority mail over a regular box? Also when do you decide as a new seller to pay for ebay subscriptions vs selling for free no subscriptions and what are the benefits using their subscriptions
These videos couldn’t have come at a better time!!! I have been selling on Mercari for close to 5 years now and have been wanting to also sell on EBay but it’s just felt so confusing and overwhelming to me. Your videos have definitely helped me understand the process better!!! Thank you!!! I have a question tho, when I list an item on my phone it asks for so much info, I didn’t see it doing that to u when u used your computer…is it safe to say that listing on the computer is a bit easier and not so tedious as using you phone?? Thanks again for creating this series of super helpful information ☺️
Thanks for all the fine info. I have a different type question. If a seller shows a certain amount previously sold, is there a place or way to tell what they sold for. Thanks again. Your knowledge and help is appreciated.
I just discovered your site tonight, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am a newby, therefore I do have a couple of questions. What is air drop from phone to computer - and how does it work? Also, what is a Pennywise Band? Thank you much.
Hey love the video and content. Just had a question on how do you ship your higher end vintage tee. Any tee over $100+ should you ship with priority mail or usps ground ? And should I just ship it in a poly mailer or a shirt box since the buyer are paying a lot for the tee ? Thank you
Great video! I do have a question. When you sell an item and purchase the shipping label, how is that paid for? Does that automatically come out of what you are paid as the seller? Or do you pay for the shipping separately?
Hi, thank you so much for making great videos. Well I'm a new seller and I'm struggling with the banding account so if you don't mind can you make one video about banding account please 🙏
Dude thank you so much as of yesterday I started reselling and made an eBay account I’ve had this account and bought thousands of dollars worth of games it says 100% positive feedback I’m curious does that mean it shows me to people I’m trying to sell too on eBay as 100% positive feedback as well?
@RALLIROOTS I have a question I desperately need your pro advice…out of all the resellers, y’all are my go to for everything! Question: What’s your opinion on taking photos outside in the sunlight versus my shadow box lights. I only have 2 of the inside lights and I don’t know how or where to place them to get ultimate photos for listings that will catch a viewers attention? Thank you so much. 😊
Great question! Soooo we love natural light photography. I feel with clothing in particular people want to know what the item is going to look like outside. If Florida wasn't so hot and rainy we'd probably set up a booth in the sun :)
thank you for your most excellent advice. i have learned a lot through this series. but i do have a nagging question i can't seem to resolve: take that heavy gps unit you talked about here. when we list, we have to put in shipping, and to do this, you have to know IN ADVANCE, what size box you're using, and how much padding/tape/paper you'll need, in order to put this data in the listing. especially for heavier items. so how did you resolve that when you originally listed the gps unit? it looked to me like you just chose everything in real time - how did your customer know how much to expect to pay? did you just put in an estimate? this i do not understand! but b/c i've gotten dinged a few times now on mailing, what i find myself doing, is when i list, i'll go ahead and wrap up the item, choose the box, put it in the box, and fold up some extra paper and bubble wrap for the final go - and then weigh and measure the box, and then i end up storing the unsealed box with a sticky note on the outside telling me what it is. not super efficient. but it does give me accurate postage - any advice? thank you!
We do free shipping, roll the cost of shipping into the price and average it out over the thousands of items we sell. If you don’t want to offer free shipping then you’ll have to either charge a flat amount or weigh/measure and do calculated shipping
@@RALLIROOTS well thank you - this makes sense. and i'm finding you and your vids completely awesome - so much so that i am subscribing! you are so real and approachable and you have a genuine interest in helping others to succeed. what this world needs more of, so thank you - i look forward to more from you guys! cheers from libby in s. utah
I really enjoyed your explanation of shipping. But one thing I would like for someone to go over is how do you know what to charge for shipping like does it matter how much something weighs or how big the package is? If a package is 1 lb but it's only 4 x 4 x 4 is that cheaper than a package that is 1 lb that is 8 x 8 x 8? also at what point would I want to use the USPS Priority Shipping? How do you know if that would be cheaper than paying for the shipping label
It does matter yes :) shipping prices from the different suppliers vary from day-to-day, so you have to constantly check what the best option is. Which is why I gave the example that most resellers use of just doing a flat rate shipping based on a range of weight. What we found in the current market is USPS ground advantage is going to be your best bet for most items followed by UPS for larger, heavier items.
Larger packages at the same weight will be more expensive. The carriers call it "dimensional weight" I generally use Priority Mail when the flat rate packaging is cheaper than USPS Ground Advantage or item value is over $100. When you input your package weight and dimensions ebay generates a list of services/prices for the buyer's address. Just pick what makes sense for your item.
@@RALLIROOTSthank you for that explanation. I would still like for you to do a very in-depth video on shipping. Like setting up a shipping policy what is a basic rate for different items and how would you know? Shipping is the one thing that I am not sure of at this point I pretty much am sending everything I sell by ground Advantage because it's just easier that way. But I've also found sales where I charged way too much for shipping and I know it cost me sales. Again thank you so very much for all you're doing
What items would you look for if you are just starting out doing this? I want to get into this but it seems overwhelming with what to look for and what to buy starting out. Also having the capital to get started.
On the purse I would have cut the box down to make it less tall then 9 " and put packing paper in it to keep buyer from cutting the item when they open it .I also write on teh box do not cut too deep just cut tape LOL . Just because I am selling my old stuff does not mean I still do not love them
So when you listed those items how did you know what weight & dimensions to put on the listing when you didn’t know what box you would be using? Or weight of the item boxed up?
How do you control your inventory from sitting in a box unsold for months? Before eBay went with automatic relist after 30 days I would use the relist to make any changes to the listing that might improve the chances for a sale. Now that items are automatically relisted I’ve found items on my shelves that have not sold for months. Do you have any control for a larger inventory with 2000+ listings to prevent that? Thanks! Love your content!
Great question :) We run sales, we end and relist sometimes and we send offers daily. On items that have been sitting for a while we’ll just run a low price 7 day auction to clear them out, but the biggest thing is we check the sell through rate before buying an item, we always look for a 40%+ sell through rate. Items sold / active items listed = STR
@@RALLIROOTS Thank you. That helps with most but the specific problem I have is items buried in my bins, that I’ve basically forgot were even there, that keep relisting without selling. Before eBay went with auto relist this wasn’t an issue as all unsold items would have to be manually relisted giving me the opportunity to make any necessary changes (lower price, better title, etc) and then relist. I was wondering if you have/had a similar issue and how you possibly resolved it.
@@Antiqueexcavator how long are we talking? You can still see when an item is about to get relisted (sort by ending soonest) and uou can see how long it’s been listed in totality. You can end the item manually and make the necessary changes, but if your pics, titles & prices are good and the item is sitting for years it was probably not the best of buys to begin with and it might be time to liquidate or donate.
@@RALLIROOTS I’ll start checking my listings more often using your suggestion. Much appreciated!! I love following your success! You guys are an amazing couple!
Question: With my first and only package, I placed transparent packing tape on and didn't have a problem, but I'm always skeptical about the label barcode not reading correctly when scanned. Is this not recommendable? Thanks.
My comment must've not posted but I had a question when it comes to shipping an item out. Can you use the shipping fee as credit towards the eBay shipping label or does it just come with the rest of the money when you finally received the money for the item
I'm probably being dumb but I'm helping my mom put stuff up on ebay and I'm just lost on what to put for the shipping for her stuff. This isn't for a business she just wants to get rid of stuff and I'm trying to figure out what to put for the shipping when I don't have anything packed in boxes until it's sold and don't want her to lose money because of it. Do I just put free shipping, add extra to the amount I'm putting it up for and then hope it's enough?
We are new to eBay and we are not getting how you are doing your shipping price at the moment of your posting the item. So how do you no what to charge for shipping. Can you please help
I hope this series helps as many people as possible 😊 thank you for the support!
Do you only offer free shipping on items?
How do you get started on eBay? I can’t get views on my listings.

Regarding the eBay shipping labels, is the cost taken from your selling price? Thank you!
Very informative. Thanks. I have been doing dropshipping on eBay and not physically based in US. Do you recommend any affordable 3pl warehouse?
i want to start selling on ebay. my question is do i need any type of re seller permit since i am planning on doing this as a full time job eventually
No permit but you’ll need to purchase a eBay store membership to be able to start selling more than 500$ worth of product
Do you weigh and measure your items before posting so you know how much to build in for shipping, or how does that work? Thanks!
Is this lesson for a private account or business account
great video. how do you delete alaska, hawaii, and puerto rico? since those areas will be much higher in shipping...
You can exclude locations when you create your shipping policy
Question do you weigh the item 1st before you package it or afterwards its inside of the shipping box?
you may have already covered this and i missed it but what about a return address on the shipped items?
we use a UPS mailing address, its a PMB box
On the purse I would have cut the box down to make it less tall then 9 " and put packing paper in it to keep buyer from cutting the item when they open it .I also write on teh box do not cut too deep just cut tape LOL . Just because I am selling my old stuff does not mean I still do not love them
Might have saved a little bit, shipping was close and cheap already tho
if you have a 10x13 Polly bag what would you put in For the dimensions
Do you print and place a packing slip in with the item ?
we dont
Can you use the priority padded envelope with a ground advantage label?
Nope
When you list a product, should eBay promote it or not? I mean for those who are at the beginning
So when you listed those items how did you know what weight & dimensions to put on the listing when you didn’t know what box you would be using? Or weight of the item boxed up?
We didn’t. We do free shipping. If you’re doing calculated shipping make sure to put those dimensions in.
@@RALLIROOTS That makes sense, I just sold my first item last night and chose calculated shipping.
@@staciemj74 hey!!! Congrats on your first sale! Onwards and upwards!
I have also heard you can get free labels to print on from ups is that true.
They have to be used for UPS packages
Time Management to source and list. your schedule?
How do you know what amount of postage to add to the listing?
@@Antiqueexcavatorthank you 😊♥️
Question: With my first and only package, I placed transparent packing tape on and didn't have a problem, but I'm always skeptical about the label barcode not reading correctly when scanned. Is this not recommendable? Thanks.
My comment must've not posted but I had a question when it comes to shipping an item out. Can you use the shipping fee as credit towards the eBay shipping label or does it just come with the rest of the money when you finally received the money for the item
You can pay out of the collected funds
How do you pack and ship VHS Videos please???
If we don't have products what should i do please tell us details...
How to ship from otside of the us. Can I used fedex or DHL with out the EBAY stickers o it must have that
I'm probably being dumb but I'm helping my mom put stuff up on ebay and I'm just lost on what to put for the shipping for her stuff.
So question. Does ebay tell you how much the shipping cost will be or do you have to figure that out yourself before listing?
You have to figure it out
@@RALLIROOTS thanks
We are new to eBay and we are not getting how you are doing your shipping price at the moment of your posting the item. So how do you no what to charge for shipping. Can you please help
