I’ve picked up ten Vera Bradley used purses within the last few months for less than $2 each. 5 sold for $20 plus shipping, one sold for $18 plus shipping, one sold for $12 plus shipping, and 3 are unsold. The $12 sale was a mini purse that just weighed a few ounces.
Hi I just wanted to say that I love watching and have quite awhile. Becareful with marked 925 jewelry. Some could be silverplate copper or brass. A magnet will not stick to either of the metal. I am a reseller and have learned this along they way. People or companies will do this you have to read the fine print.
Great video. Yes I'm going to the 127 sale. So excited. I'm not to far from the starting point in Michigan, so we only go to sales in Michigan and Ohio.
The "Commonwealth Comedy" bit is priceless!! You need to have you or one of your family members do one at the end of each video. Once people know it's gonna happen, they will watch til the end, which will help your watch hours and TH-cam income, won't it? Great stuff. Thanks.
I am doing the 127 for the first time. I am looking forward to it and am going to shoot some videos with the go pro. I am starting at Danielle- Yardsales and Dreams sale, hope to run into some other resellers along the way.
You're welcome for the bubble boy purchase, I was in need of new bubble wrap anyway! I've recently picked up reselling as a hobby and it's so fun, I'm hooked! I'm roughly $1k in the hole after about a month of going, but I've got about $5k listed. Still going strong, and I love learning from you. An affiliate link purchase is the least I could do!
I like Crush too, Turner. The "cat with no name" is beautiful, but pretty skittish. Maybe he/she just wants a name. How about calling it "Skitter"? LOL
One thing some people fail to understand is an item has a market value that your price can not go over. Doesn't really matter if you decide to break off part into a separate column for some reason but "free" shipping gets a boost in search rank. $50 market value item done a few ways $50 + $0 "free" shipping = $50 - will sell $45 + $5 shipping = $ 50 - will sell $50 + $5 shipping = $55 - above market value probably won't sell. $45 + $0 free shipping = $45 - below market value, will sell but you lost profit
Omg y'all gave me a good laugh! Kyle here! 🤣 That one is a new one for me! Haha My name is pronounced like Kayla 😁 Also, I'm from Bedford Tx! Although I still think it's really cool! 🤙🏽
Did free shipping for a long time. It was a mistake. Charging for shipping allows me to promote my listings at a higher percentage and it also gives me the option of deducting shipping on questionable returns. Plus I think there's some psychology behind it. It seems like jeans that are $23.95 + $7.95 shipping sell faster than the same pair of jeans that are $29.95 + free shipping. It doesn't make mathematical sense, but it seems to be the case.
Yes, running sales on older eBay listings is one of the reasons we rarely do Free Shipping. If you have Free Shipping, and then run the sale percentage at 20%, you have effectively discounted your shipping cost too, since the 20% is taken off the total price. Since shipping is the same cost to buy the label, you are actually giving a percentage higher then 20% on the item value portion of the total.
Commonwealth Flipper remember your doing so many things in your life right! Your raising a family and teaching them great life lessons. Your also teaching your students, members of society the knowledge of today tomorrow and yesteryear! And for someone that may be a stranger you sold her a swan that has brought more beauty into her life and I know she is very grateful! Never under sell your self, your worth more than gold to a lot of people! And yes it's true everyone has different knowledge to pass around. Love your channel and enjoy the wisdom you pass onto us the viewers. Thumbs Up
When I started selling back in 2001 I charged shipping because that seemed the obvious thing to do--'free' shipping wasn't really a thing in mail order back then. Also, as FVF wasn't charged on shipping so you saved a few pennies. A few years later eBay were heavily pushing free shipping and promising boosts in search Best Match placements so I swapped my lighter items over. Over time the free shipping boost either disappeared (or lost its effect as most competitors were also giving free shipping). I swapped back to paid shipping and didn't see any fall off in sales so left it as paid. Although FVF is now charged on shipping, promoted listing fees are not so, again, by not using free shipping we save a few pennies as everything is promoted. Another big reason for using charged shipping is convenience. When the postage or courier rates change I just have a handful of policies to update rather than a thousand individual listings each of which needs to be manually updated--or the increase in cost is simply swallowed because who wants to change a listing from £19.99 to £20.07? A final benefit, although not frequent, is that it is easier to offer discounts on combined shipping if you actually charge shipping!
I'm new to finding you and your family. I really enjoy watching you all. Your son is like a mini-me of you and your daughter is the same of her mom ! Adorable ! What is this about buying a piece of the shed about please ?
Get a diamond tester. They don't cost that much. I put free shipping sometimes. I don't think people realize that it still costs about the same. It just seems easier to list the lowest price I will take and the buyer pay for shipping. You are just going to get a better deal if you live in or close to my postal zone. Just a note...It takes a lot more packing material and a bigger box if you want your glass items to arrive in one piece.
It’s important to note that high quality stainless steel does not stick with a magnet, there’s also silver plated copper or brass. You get used to how sterling silver looks compared to others with experience. But beginners beware, not all that don’t stick is silver.
I charge shipping but keep it reasonable and it’s a flat fee for all First Class or Priority except for Padded Priority which would be a bit less. Lots of my items I have Best Offers turned on though, tried free shipping before and I would sometimes lose and come out backwards on deals so not a fan. By the way picked me up some Bubble Boy using your link!! You are one of my favorite reseller’s on TH-cam so wanted to make sure I used your link for the purchase. Awesome setup you have by the way, reminds me of a small home from the outside. Keep up the great videos and all the best in going Full Time.
Long time reseller here, I sell a lot of vintage glass, ceramics, etc. and I do calculated shipping. I tried free shipping and free returns for one month and it did not end up working out for me. Inevitably, everyone from California wanted to buy my stuff so I ended up losing money on the shipping. And it did not increase my sales at all. Sometimes you just have to try new things and see what happens.
So, I recently switched to almost completely to calculated shipping on anything that is not first class or media. Even some books I'll put in calculated shipping. The hard part is where's the cutoff from priority being too expensive and going with Fed Ex (I don't use UPS). My sales have been a bit slower lately, doubt if that is due to the calculated shipping switch, but time will tell.
My word of caution on free shipping - if the buyer wants to return because they changed their mind, didn't fit, etc. then you have to offer free shipping for the return even if it is not your fault. I sell a lot of clothes and had a couple of return request because it didn't fit. I accepted the return so I wouldn't get a bad review but then I was out double shipping.
For me I typically look at current listings / sold comps and go off of those to decide shipping. If I see people are willing to pay shipping on specific items then I’ll charge shipping but if I have let’s say a video game I’m selling and I price it like everyone else but I’m charging shipping and everyone else is free then I don’t see why someone would buy it from me.
I do the same as you. If the sold comps or competition are charging shipping, I'll do the same.. If they're doing free shipping, same as well. Only time I do differently is if I can ship the package cubic shipping. Then I'll calculate the farthest location, see what the price is, then charge shipping at that set price. That way if it ships out far, the buyer pays for it completely, and if it's close, I make a few bucks extra in profit.
I rarely do free shipping anymore. When I do I add it on the back end of price if I can. I lost so much profit on free shipping and not figuring it correctly. Now I do all buyer pays shipping. I’m doing much better on profit margin.
Anybody know when you do calculated shipping, and print out the label, it says in green writing the money you saved using eBay shipping on the bottom. Does the money saved go to seller?
I do flat rate shipping on most my items. When I first started reselling I tried free shipping and it always seem to burn me. Then maybe a year ago Tommy Bernhard talked about flat rate and I like it so I adopted that. It works for most of the items I sell except when I have a bigger or heavier item which I either get burned or have done calculated shipping.
Hello, just wanted to leave you a comment. I’m not a reseller I’m just someone who loves watching TH-cam videos. But I wanted to tell you that I know it makes you a little nervous going full time. But I think you will be great at it. You have all your family’s support. They love to help you. And your teach your children a trade in selling. They can take the same ways of doing that and apply it to whatever they do in life. And teaching them a good work ethic is one of the most valuable things you could do. Good luck with your videos and God bless you and your beautiful family. 😊
I prefer flat rate shipping. My items are usually small and low ship cost. If I have an item that has a bit of competition and not selling I will raise the item price by a dollar or two and lower the shipping. Looks good when buyers compare.Just a game I play sometimes and since Ebay get commision on items and shipping it doesn't matter to Ebay..They get theirs.
I sell a lot of media mostly movies and cd's and usually I do flat rate. I know they are light but I mail them in padded boxes so the customer gets their item in tip top shape. I do free when it feels right for the item. I always try to give an honest price for shipping but amazon has ruined peoples idea of shipping costs.
Generally stay away from "free" shipping (unless media) due to scammers and lowballers whose "business" brings more hassle than it's worth. If I spend the gas, time, and energy to find bargains, list, organize in inventory, and then box and ship... the buyer can pay to have front door delivery hassle free.
I only been doing this for three months or so. I give out free shipping for first class. And if I know that it is going in a flat rate I charge what the flat rate is. I live on the east coast and I don’t want to take a chance to ship something to California. That will cost me tons.
I Can't pick up Vera Bradley because I'll keep them, it's my weekness🤦 I actually live close to 127 in OH. but I am traveling to Southern KY to start my adventure. I have heard several You Tube resellers make comments on their videos that if you use calculated shipping, you don't know what your doing, or you will never be successful, and one even says it as, you must be stupid. I think calculated is a good tool for odd or heavy items so that you don't lose money trying to guess how much it will be. When I first started I listened to the above people and every time I offer free shipping on anything over 1st class, it seems to be going to CA ( I'm in OH) so I always lost money. I now only offer free shipping on 1st class, and low shipping on flat rate packages. So I say, only you know what shipping way is best for your business.
For me I do free shipping 90% of the time, mostly smaller things or stuff that fits in a flat rate of some kind. I add shipping on things I accept returns on, which is pretty much shoes and clothing. I only use calculated shipping for huge things, since it seems those things always sell to someone on the other side of the country. Thanks Kevin for the great vids - sold my first two amber colored Corning Visions saucepans for a tidy profit and just picked my first cooler, an Igloo Kool Rider that is mint.
I am curious, you say you add shipping on things you accept returns on, I thought you had to either offer returns on everything or not at all, can you please tell me how you list each? I am a new seller.
@@joenwc You can choose to accept returns or not for each listing. I list in the eBay app most of the time, the returns option is near the bottom. Now if you sell something and the buyer claims it was "not as described", eBay will force the return on you irregardless of your policy.
I do not think it adds up to a hill of beans whether a person charges flat rate or free shipping. I do both depending upon what other sellers of the item are doing. But I do charge more for the item if it does have free to cover the cost. I do not use calculated shipping - I live in Texas and calculated charges my Florida, New York, Washington State, Alaska, and Hawaii customers too much, so they are more likely to buy from another seller if I used calculated. Good question!
Aunt Laurie loves Pandora heart shaped/themed charms 925 of course 😂… I’m always finding Vera Bradley at garage sales and make some really good money. I typically only buy items that have no stains or damage. Always check the handle straps and corners for wear. If I wouldn’t buy it, I don’t sell it ! Love to all and Happy Belated Birthday Reagan and Blue Ridge Mama 😘
Great video.😃👍👍👍Your daughter will probably grow up to be a great jeweler.Awwww she knows her jewelry stuff indeed. All woman love there jewelry.God Bless!👍😃✌❤

Don the auction guy said charging shipping hasn't affected his sales. Other youtubers have said the same thing. Buyers KNOW the shipping is in the price, anyway. It just looks more honest to charge it out in the open.
@@bartermania if you by your labels on-line (in eBay), the cut off for first class is 16 oz., which is more then it was last time I bought a label at the Post Office counter (it was 13 oz there, but that was awhile back). Under 16 oz is First Class, 16.1 oz and greater is Priority. And those are packed weights, not net item weights, which is why using the right box/bag is important.
Jealous of being able to see marking on jewelry, wife and both wear glasses and carry jewelry loop and a magnifying glass and still cant see them part of time lol
Hey Kevin, Great Vid! I usually ship flat rate across the board. My thinking is I make a few bucks on everything I sell close to me ( I live in Michigan), and loose a few shipping to California. I'm thinking some of those California sales wouldn't happen if I used calculated.
I am located in California, and I only do calculated shipping. Most items ship first class parcel, but I have quite a few items that I can ship using regional rate A and most recently regional rate B boxes. Those listings still show calculated shipping, but I entered 2# for the A box and 5# for the B box so the shipping cost doesn't show as much as it would for calculated for those buyers on the east coast.
Not sure I have a set rule on shipping charged vs. free ... it's more a gut feeling. I will look at what solds have done and what current listings are. Sometimes the market decides for you. Or I'll also sometimes price a touch lower and then charge shipping hoping that my item will sell faster than someone else's based on the buyer's location. I can ship to California pretty cheap, for example.
This is always a dilemma for me deciding how to ship…but I was happy to hear I’m not far off from your thoughts on the choices I’m making 👍👍👍 Thanks so much for your knowledge!!
Another thing on flat rate shipping, if someone buys more than one item from your store, Ebay only charges the buyer shipping ONCE. You pick up the slack.
I'm sorry to hear that, "Everybody calls me a liar !" I guess when you put yourself out there, you become a target of all the "haters." I see you guys trying to defend yourselves from unfounded criticisms or judgement. I learn so much every video! Thank you. This will be my first q4 as an eBay reseller. When is a good time to start heavy listing for Christmas items? I’ve been saving a bunch of NIP toys that I’ve picked up that will do well for Christmas I’m sure. Thank you in advance!
I live in central Florida so for the most part I ship using calculated shipping. I only do free shipping when all other items like mine are using free shipping. So far since I have gone to that I have had only one neutral feedback issue. And that I believe is just somebody that wasn't going to be happy no matter what happened. To be upset/disappointed because he didn't get his item in 2 days is just something I have no control over. Anyway since I use calculated shipping it has helped with not being a very good estimator on packaging, especially with the larger heavier items. I typically give them options on which service (parcel, first class or FedEx) to use on items over a pound. I don't do free shipping on the First Class (less than a pound) just because shipping to west coast can get a little pricier for me on the lower priced items.
I do free shipping some if I know like you said it’s a controlled cost. If it’s over a pound I do calculated only after my ship a 15 pound fan to a small island in Hawaii experience.
Have Fun at the sales! I don't live far from 127 in Fairfield,m. But, I'm recording for my You Tube channel this year so I'm traveling to Southern KY and making my way back to Fairfield.
Why do I do what I do because I wanna be like commonwealth picker someday lol also my son is just like Reagan I’ll find something that’s worth money and really neat and he wants it and he didn’t wanna pay for it lol

How do I order a mug from Kristen?
Good question. Send me an IG and I can send hers to you.
Me 15 pounds ago was 2 minutes ago lol
lol
Just went to get the mail and my tartan golf cap arrieved! Thanks so much. Off to leave you feedback now.
Hope you like it!
Good rule of thumb Aunt Laurie
Great video.😃👍👍👍Your daughter will probably grow up to be a great jeweler.Awwww she knows her jewelry stuff indeed. All woman love there jewelry.God Bless!👍😃✌❤

Your channel always puts a smile on my face your kindness also comes through in your children. Thank you for great content and sharing your family and journey with us..
Don the auction guy said charging shipping hasn't affected his sales. Other youtubers have said the same thing. Buyers KNOW the shipping is in the price, anyway. It just looks more honest to charge it out in the open.
Kangol / Paperboy style hat. What happens when the buyer is from Hawaii or Alaska for the cameras free shipping!? 😳🤔☘️
First class. No big deal at all.
@@commonwealthflipper so the over under threshold is 16 oz ? 👍☘️
Hi Kevin, the Eneman is working already!! a $550 sale yesterday and a $579 total weekend!!! He is getting my store movin'!! Thanks bunches!!
Lol. Thanks Doreen
Jealous of being able to see marking on jewelry, wife and both wear glasses and carry jewelry loop and a magnifying glass and still cant see them part of time lol
Cat's name should be O.W.A.N. One Without A Name
When items get taken by Reagan or Blue Mountain, do you consider that shrinkage?
Thanks for sharing and caring!
This was a great video for many reasons: advice, quotes, story telling, the kids, and Dottie. Thanks!
This is always a dilemma for me deciding how to ship…but I was happy to hear I’m not far off from your thoughts on the choices I’m making 👍👍👍 Thanks so much for your knowledge!!
Cat with no Name is beautiful! It should be named Tiger, for all the stripes.
Another thing on flat rate shipping, if someone buys more than one item from your store, Ebay only charges the buyer shipping ONCE. You pick up the slack.
Your Daughter is a Treasure
Thanks for another video.
I'm sorry to hear that, "Everybody calls me a liar !" I guess when you put yourself out there, you become a target of all the "haters." I see you guys trying to defend yourselves from unfounded criticisms or judgement. You Who Are Good Folks Trying To Be Honest, Feed Your Families, & Follow Your American Dream, Getting Attacked On A Daily Basis By People Who May Spend All Their Time Watching Those WHO ARE DOING SOMETHING WHILE THEY SIT ON THEIR BUTTS ! I'd Like To ASK THEM -- WHAT HAVE Y O U E V E R D O N E !? SERIOUSLY, You Should Wake Up & LEARN FROM THIS KIND MAN WHO IS SHARING HIS SELLING EXPERTISE FOR FREE SO OTHERS ( YOU ) CAN BE SUCCESSFUL. He Is , After All, A T E A C H E R A T H E A R T ! If YOU -- You Know Who You Are -- Will Take This To Heart,
You Too Can Be Successful ! ( Then All The "HATERS" Will Take Pot Shots At YOU & You Will See What It Is Like ! )
I do flat rate shipping on about 95% of my items. Works for me 😁
Good one Ragan. 😊
925 can be stamped on anything. Only way to know for certain is to acid test. I bought a ring that was marked 925 but wasn't when I tested it.
Great information as usual and do enjoy that it is a family thing
I learn so much every video! Thank you. This will be my first q4 as an eBay reseller. When is a good time to start heavy listing for Christmas items? I’ve been saving a bunch of NIP toys that I’ve picked up that will do well for Christmas I’m sure. Thank you in advance!
I would have them all listed by the end of the month.
get a diamond tester
Def hitting 127. I basically live in Hamilton Ohio so a lot of the Ohio section is straight through here.
Have Fun at the sales! I don't live far from 127 in Fairfield,m. But, I'm recording for my You Tube channel this year so I'm traveling to Southern KY and making my way back to Fairfield.
You can but a diamond detector and know for sure
Why do I do what I do because I wanna be like commonwealth picker someday lol also my son is just like Reagan I’ll find something that’s worth money and really neat and he wants it and he didn’t wanna pay for it lol
Liked the joke of the day.
