  • Welcome to Episode 1, part 2 of our Kruger National Park Short trip series.
In the previous episode, we drove all the way from Malelane Gate to Letaba Rest Camp.
We had a good day overall with plenty of general game, some nice birds, a lion sighting right on the road, two leopard sightings, and the sighting of the behavior of the ground hornbills.
We got up early in the morning and left the camp as soon as the gates opened, had our morning coffee at the N'wamanzi lookout point, took a few photos, and then left again to take advantage of the spectacular morning light.
We had a fantastic start to the morning with some beautiful birds in the lovely morning light. So we took our second coffee break on the high-level water bridge just south of the N'wamanzi lookout point.
The hyena population looks very promising as we saw plenty of youngsters and a few babies as well. There were two that were up to no good and kept us entertained for a very long time.
After the cute hyena sighting, we stopped at the Nkumbe lookout point. From this viewpoint, we saw almost all of the general game that we have seen during our two-day stay, which included kudu, waterbuck, giraffe, zebra, elephant, and much more. So always remember to take your bino's with you and take the time to look around.
We were very impressed with all the young game in the park, especially the young giraffe, and the cute hyena babies.
It was getting late, but as usual the park had other plans, and gave us our two best sightings on the way out of the park, which made us a little bit late for the gate, and the low light taking away the photo opportunities.
We got the African Wild dogs just a few kilometers before the gate, and could not spend a lot of time with them as we would be late for the gate, and they already blocked the road for a while.
We are off to the park again soon and are hoping to get the dogs in the morning as we enjoy spending lots of time with them.
Can't wait for our next short trip!!

Did we make any mistakes in identifying animals/birds?
